We made it home! WhooooHoooooo! We left Fenton, MO around 7:00 this morning and arrived home around 3:45 this afternoon. We chased the rain all the way today but never really caught up with it. We hit a few wet roads but the rain was always ahead of us. Now for a few stats. 16 Days of travel 15 hotel stays 6277 miles ridden 17 states visited (not counting KY) 46 gas stops 185 gallons of gas consumed (my bike) 33.8 mpg (pulling the trailer) Cheapest gas - $3.33/gallon (regular) Most expensive gas - $4.79/gallon (regular) Temperatures varied from the low 40's to an observed 107 degrees (F) What a trip. Overall it was a pretty smooth trip even if we were a bit rushed. Other than the minor delay with the trailer tire, the bikes performed flawlessly and we had no close calls to speak of. We saw some incredible sites, and some not so incredible ones along the way. Dennis

We're on our way home from the west coast. Tonight we're in Grants NM. We left home on the 21st for a ride to Oregon and N. California coast. So far we've travelled about 4800 miles. We plan to be home on Friday. For our route covered you can see it at: http://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=2fd74df6c9a6b12d4 If you are bored and need something to look at, I've posted photos each day to my web site. My wife and I were walking along Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco today and spotted this RSV parked wiht another bike. Just wondering if it belongs to anyone on the board. It was loaded for travelling. Dennis

Another good day. We made it from Wall, SD to Butte, MT. About 630 miles. On to Missoula tomorrow where we plan to pick up US12 through Idaho. A few pictures are here: www.traynorphoto.com/wcday3 Dennis

We've had a good run so far. Yesterday was cloudy all day and we hit several 30 second showers along the way. We made it to Cedar Rapids, IA. Today we continued on with perfect riding weather and tonight we're in Wall, SD. A total of 1280 miles in two days. I've posted a few photos at www.traynorphoto.com/wcday2 Not many photo ops so far. We're just rolling the miles. Dennis

I don't think it was us. We did ride through Peoria on 74 and we may have had our rain suits on but I don't think we got off on 117 but I may be mistaken. Was one of the wings towing a Bushtec trailer? The tour deluxe was a midnight. Dennis

While I've been on parts of Rt. 66 I would love to explore it more. Unfortunately, on the way to Portland and the return from Las Vegas we have no time to spare and we'll just be rolling down the interstates as fast as we can. Dennis

I was oringinally scheduled to leave today for the Oregon-N. California coast but one of my riding companions had a death in the family so we had to postpone our start until Thursday morning. We'll be taking a northerly route from Central Ky through IN, IL, IA, MN, SD, MT and WA (I-90) on our way to Portland where we will pick up our wives on Monday. From there we'll head on to the coast and follow it down to San Fransisco and on to Big Sur. From there we'll head east through Yosemite and then south to Las Vegas where we'll drop the wives at the airport before we head back across I-40 toward home. So if you see 2 Goldwings and a Tour Deluxe along that route give us a wave or stop us for a chat, I'm sure we'll need a break. After Thursday morning you can follow our SPOT track by going to http://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=2fd74df6c9a6b12d4 Dennis

Check out the arm rests from Rivco. I don't believe you have to move them out of the way to open the trunk. One of my riding buddies has the Kuryakyn arm rests and he discouraged me from getting those. It turned out my wife didn't want them either. Dennis

As you know the maximum volume that the rear controller can be set at is the current volume for the front. We never had an issue on our '07. From what you are describing I would be leaning toward an issue with the rear volume controller. Dennis

Tom, don't get me wrong, the ride is smooth with the Centramatics and I have no intention of taking them off. I've only put about 300 miles (mostly interstate) on them and I expect they will be fine over time. I was just comparing them to my experience with dynabeads. Dennis

In preparation for our big trip next week I just installed new tires on the Goldwing after 4300 miles. The OEM Dunlops were 50% worn and starting to cup already. Since I have 6200 miles to travel on this trip I wanted to start out on fresh tires (Bridgestone 704/709). Since the bike is so new and I plan to go through many tires while I own it I went ahead an bought a set of Centramatics to put on with the new tires. I read many reveiws how they make the bike super smooth and feel like it was on rails. I bought into the hype. In reality, I really don't see any improvement in balance over using Dynabeads. I have a friend that just put new tires and Dynabeads on his wing and it is just as smooth. For the $229 that the Centramatics I could easily have bought a lifetime supply of beads. Hopefullly, down the road I'll see the benefit of the Centramatics. Dennis

I thought I would post a follow up to my noisy phone problem. I tried mic splitters from BikeMP3 and Edsets along with various ground loop filters/isolators and all failed. I had just about given up and assumed that I wouldn't get the phone to work on the wing. As a last ditch effort I called the folks at Kennedy's Cellset.com. I talked to a very nice lady there that quickly told me what components I would need and $138 later I have the phone work pretty good. The person on the other end of my calls still ocasionally hears a bit of alternator whine at times when I am acclerating hard. But overall I'm happy with the setup. The difference with the Kennedy system is that everything stays within the IC circuit. Unlike the setup I had on the RSV, The IC has to be on to talk on the phone. And the mic output is controlled by the volume control on the IC. I've found that for normal riding the wife and I need the IC volume set at 9. At that level the mic to the phone over drives the phone to the point of distorting you voice. Turning it back to 6 or 7 is fine. Also at that low level I lose the road noise that I normally get back through the headset at the normal IC level. Now I can chat with my friends next week as I drive across the boring plains of SD, if I can get a phone signal. Dennis

I have a Nelson Rigg bag. Here are links to a few of photos that show it. http://www.traynorphoto.com/2010biketrip/content/IMG_4557_large.html http://www.traynorphoto.com/2010biketrip/content/IMG_4954_large.html http://www.traynorphoto.com/2010biketrip/content/IMG_5512_large.html http://www.traynorphoto.com/2010biketrip/content/IMG_8680_large.html It holds really well and is perfect for cameras, glasses, wallet, etc Hmmmm, I wonder how it will stick to the plastic on the Goldwing? I had the same problem on my Venture. My dealer used a sevice to prep the bike and they left the bolts out of the windshield bar also. See this thread.. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44756&highlight=midrsv The fairing was replaced under warranty. Dennis

We had a nice evening with the VR group tonight even though it was a bit cool and cloudy. Tomorrow looks to be a great day. Here are a few photos from this evening and I am sure others have photos to post as well. Dennis

Me too. I'm getting 4 to 6 mpg better on the Wing. Dennis

Yep, I've done most of that already. The Baker Built hand wings seemed to help quite a bit. If you are buying that much stuff you might consider becoming a VIP member at Wingstuff.com. The additional savings will pay for the membership if you buy seveal items. Dennis

Congratulations on the new bike Jim. Having recently switched to a Wing from the RSV I agree with most of you observations. I like the smoothness and power of the drivetrain. The handling is much better than the Venture. It is a very easy bike to ride. However, for a bike to cover serious miles with at turnpike speeds I still think the Venture is better. I think the Venture has better wind protection and the ride isn't as harsh over rough pavement. And I prefer the relaxed leg position of the Venture. But for around town and backroad twisties the Wing beats the Venture. You need to bring it on down to KY this weekend. Dennis

I have liability, comprehensive and collision. No personal injury, got that covered elsewhere. Dennis
