I wanted to let everyone know the outcome of the settlement. As I stated previously I decided to just let the dealer take care of the repairs. All of the parts have been ordered and there was only 1 trunk in stock and it has to come from Japan. The appraiser with my insurance company, Dairyland/Sentry was very good to work with. He was very quick to respond to communications both by phone and email. Thanks Kevin! My best experience ever dealing with insurance. Dennis

How hard is it to change a rear fender?
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yeah, I thought about that. I don't have a problem with pullig the wheel. I can do it in about 30 minutes. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to get an estimate. I'm going to be dealing with an adjuster out of Iowa via photos. Shouldn't be a big deal. I'm leaning toward just letting the dealer take care of it. I'm just not in the mood to fool with it. So you have to pull the rear wheel? Oh well, I've got a new Avon in the garage I was planning on installing later in the spring. Dennis -

Unfortunately, I have a $500 deductable. Dennis -
Some of you may have read my thread about the hit and run Saturday. Now it appears I'm going to need a new fender. If I could save enough to cover the deductable I might try to make the repairs myself. Does anyone know how big of a job to replace the rear fender, right saddle bag support and trunk bucket? What all has to be disassembled? Here are photos of the parts that need to be replaced. www.traynorphoto.com/rockytop Thanks, Dennis

Yeah, the trooper commented that CSI was BS. He said that he only knew of one case where a camera got a good plate number and it was because it was zoomed in on a drive through where it could get a close up shot of just the plate. I called the insurance company today and now I'm waiting to here from the adjuster. They told me to go ahead and get a repair quote. Dennis

One of the outside cameras showed the guy walking toward the door but it was from a high angle and he had on a baseball cap. The indoor camera was aimed at the door but there was extreme backlighting from the sun so it washed out the image. It was and ADT security camera system and none of the images were very good. You couldn't make out any plate numbers on any car in the lot. Dennis

The store owners didn't recognize the vehicle of driver. The owner was a Harley rider and seemed willing to help if he could. Dennis

I was out for a ride this afternoon and my wife calls and asks me to pick up a powerball ticket for tonights drawing. So I stop in a Shell market about 15 miles from home to take a break and pick up the tickets. When I got back out to the bike I noticd my helmet dangling from the handle bars by the headset cord. I thought that was odd because the it was always secure hooked over the mirror. While I walked around the bike while finishing my Pepsi I noticed a turn signal lens on the ground about 4 feet behind the bike. It looked like mine, it was mine. Crap, someone hit me while I was in the store. I was parked out beyond the pump islands away from everyone. Upon further examination I found my fender dented, the chrome saddle bag rail bent, the trunk cracked and scratched and I was pissed. I called the police to file a report and it turned out the store had security cameras that recoreded the event. However, the resolution was too poor to identify the vehicle or driver. The driver of a white extended cab pickup was parked about 30 feet from me. He backed up and his hitch ball took out my turn signal and dented the fender and his bumper hit the trunk. I watched in the video as he pushed the bike back about 4 feet and luckily it didn't fall over and stayed on the sidestand. The video showed the guy get out and look behind the truck and then get back in. I guess he was contemplating his next move because it took him a minute and a half to decide to get out and come in the store. It appeared he came in just to see if anyone seemed to have noticed him hit the bike. When no one seemed to have noticed he returned to his truck and drove off. All the while I am standing in the store talking to friendly guy that just walked up and asked about Ventures. This all happened in about 3 minutes. The trooper took the report and a copy of the video but it is doubtful anything will come of it. I guess I get to talk to my insurance company Monday. It looks like replacment parts are going to run about $1300. Maybe it's time for a new bike. I'm tempted. With my luck today I don't expect much from those lottery tickets. Dennis

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought it was trash. Now I don't feel so old. Dennis

I might be showing my age, but I thought that had to be the worst Half-time show ever. What did you think? Dennis

Here's a thought, make sure your CD isn't turned on with the squelch set really low and the volume turned completely down. It will overide the radio sound. Happened to me once. Dennis

Cheap Android tablet (Nook Color)
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Blame it on me! Really, I like Apple products. My wife and I both have Iphones. If the Ipad were the product I wanted I would have bought it. The cost isn't that big of a hurdle. I've pissed away more money on lesser toys. Like others said, I bought a Zumo 550 with XM because that's what I wanted, not because it was cheap. I didn't want or need a tablet capable of being a laptop replacement. I've already got a laptop and 3 desktops to manage. I merely wanted a device I could slip into a jacket pocket and I could hold in one hand comfortably on which I could read email and web surf. Being able to install an app or two is a bonus. Prior to picking the Nook up a couple of days ago I hadn't realized that it had web browser built in right out of the box. To me it's a web browser that happens to be an e-reader. I just wanted to point out to those that didn't know, there is a way to get a reasonably priced Android based tablet. I'm not trying to sell anyone a lifestyle change. Now, should I start a discussion on Bluray players/media servers? Dennis -

I really don't know what version of Android. Based on what I read in the forums I think it is probably 2.1. When I check the software version in the setup it reflects the B&N version of 1.0.1 Dennis -
Cheap Android tablet (Nook Color)
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
I like the Ipad but it is too big and too expensive for what I wanted. Around here the Ipad is at least $500. I wanted a tablet I could easily hold in one hand and that would fit in a jacket pocket. I like the Galaxy but couldn't justify the cost ($500). I've got my Iphone as well so I'm used to the app store. I think the Android Market has enough selection to keep me entertained for a while. The "rooting" process only takes about 15 minutes and if you use Autonooter it is pretty straight forward. And, at any time you can reset it back to the base Nook configuration which by itself is a decent web browser. Dennis -
If anyone is interested in a cheap tablet, I've been watching the tablet market and wishing for something bigger than my Iphone an cheaper than an Ipad. I may have found it in the form of a Barnes and Noble "Nook Color". It is a$ 249 Android bases e-reader. It has limited web function outbox the box. However, it can be rooted, a term i hadn't heard of before yesterday. The rooting process cracks the operating system to enable the full feature set of an Android tablet. I'm writing this post on it now. It is the same size as the Samsung Galaxie Tab with a 7 inch screen. It lacks the gps and camera and only has a wifi connection. You can download apps from the android market. I am still learning the android system but i think it will do what need/want. If your interested you can check unit out at http://www.bn.com and for rooting info just google "nook rooting" Dennis

I can't comment on 404's. My last two sets have been E3's and I just ordered my next set and I'm going back to Avon Venoms. I didn't find the wear on the E3's to be any better than Avon and I preferred the ride and handling of the Avons. Dennis

I stopped in their shop last summer and bought a mount for my SPOT. While there I talked with one of the owners and we talked about the business and the economy and she said that they had to let all of their employees go and business had been very bad for a year or more at that time. Nice shop and good people to deal with. Dennis

As has already be state, the ride over Beartooth pass between the north east park entrance and Cooke city should not be missed. Yellowstone is nice park but we much preferred riding through Glacier National Park. And if you get the chance, Rocky Mountain National Park is a nice ride also. If you would like to see some photos a friend of mine has photos from our 2007 trip to Yellowstone and Glacier. They are in the photo galleries at: http://www.magnarider94.com/ Dennis

Here is a link to a thread with photos of the hitch carrier I made to carry a cooler. It could carry a duffle as well. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50499&highlight=midrsv Dennis

Welcome to the site Bigpine! You're going to enjoy it. You'll find a lot of discussions here about seats. I like my Mustang seat but my wife hates it. So for long trips when she is with me I switch out to stock pillowtop. I noticed you have the Corbin passenger backrest also. I tried one of those once thinking my wife would like the wrap around backrest. She hated it. She felt it made it harder to get on and off and since the foam wasn't as soft as the pillowtop it transmitted more vibration into her back. We only used it one weekend. I plan to also be in CA and OR at the end of June and the first of July this year. Planning on riding from Portland or Tacoma to San Fransisco along the coast highway. Like others have said, get a trunk rack to improve your luggage capacity. A trailer hitch wrack is a good idea also. Good luck and thanks for the introduction. Dennis

Dave, I read the reviews and the disgruntled comments seem to center around billing and customer service. Fortuntately I've not had to contact them. I don't mind the auto billing, I knew that when I signed up. So far I haven't had to use the emergency service and hope I don't. When I bought the unit the emergency service was a secondary feature for me. Since I don't go off roading and on long trips I'm generally travelling with other riders I should have help close at hand anyway. My primary goal was to allow people back home to follow my travels. I recommend anyone looking at a Spot 2 to look at the RAM mount for it. See the attached photo. Dennis
