Just curious, How many Wing Riders do we have on the site?
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Honda Goldwing Tech Talk
Up to 23 now, or is that 23 1/2. Also, I started a new thread to carry on the discussion to improve the wind control in case anyone is interested and hasn't been following this one. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=577859#post577859 Dennis -
There was some discussion in another thread about making the Goldwing more comfortable from a wind buffeting standpoint and I thought it would be beneficial to break it out into dedicated thread. It was suggested to change the windshield to a taller and wider windshield like the F4 Customs +4 (4 inches taller than stock) and to also install air wings under the mirrors. I've looked at the F4 web site and there are conflicting statements on that site regarding maintaining adjustability with the taller and wider shield. Does anyone know if there is any adjustability with the +4 shield. It probably doesn't matter to me because I would be looking through it anyway. Another shield option I am considering is the Clearview shield. The F4 shield is nearly $400. Clearview offers shields that are 3 inches wider and up to 5 inches taller and they state that the adjustability is maintained. They are priced at about $220. Would they work as well as the F4+4? Any other suggestions? Dennis

Joe, is the F4+4 still adjustable? In the video on their site they say it is not but in the description they say it is. I'll probably order one either way. Dennis -

That's what I've heard Tom. What windshield do you recommend? Dennis -

I've already done the first two and I've got an Airhawk cushion I plan to try on the next extended ride. I need to reposition the highway pegs and try to do something about the wind buffeting. Maybe air wings and/or a taller windshield. Dennis -
Hopefully, mine was one of the 3 you found. Not giving up riding, just switching bikes. Dennis

I've not seen one before and I don't think I would trust it for a 1000# bike. It seems you would be real limited in tie-down strap attachment points. Dennis

That counts, so that makes us 20 1/2. I must say that I rode the wing 260 miles last Sunday and I was ready to get off. While it's got a great motor and handles much better than the RSV, it can't compare for comfort toward the end of a long day. And I had expected better. There are a couple of things I need to do to try to improve the comfort. Dennis -

I would think so, that puts us up to 7 1/2 now. -

I guess that gives us 5 1/2 so far. -
Now that I have a Goldwing I've noticed a few more postings by wing riders. Does anyone know how many of us are on the site now? Just curious. Dennis

Oh yeah! I've had that accessory financed for 37 years and there is no payoff date in sight.

Ok, I just got home from a round trip to Alabama to pick up my trailer today. I found it to be in better condition than I could have hoped for. It came with a hitch, draw bar, cover, spoiler, cooler kit, air pump and front bra. I put it behind the bike and while it's not a color match it doesn't really clash too bad. I need to see it in better light but at this time I don't think I'm going to have it painted. I may add some color matched graphics to tie it together. I think I got a great deal. Here a few photos. Thanks Joe, I did contact Kevin and he told me they were good to deal with. I spoke with Time-out about the blade trailer but they couldn't come through with better photos and a price list. The person I talked to gave me a price of $3800 pluse shipping. I was just uncomfortable buying something that expensive without having seen one personally or at least some very detailed photos. So today I found a fully optioned Bushtec GL that I am going to buy for $3200. After going to pick it up and having it repainted I should have less than $4000 in it. It's got all of the options including the cooler package, cover, rear wing with running and brake lights, garmet bag, etc.. I'll post photos when I get it all tuned up. Dennis

That looks like a good value. But since my wife already vetoed the Aluma MCT based on the look I'm sure she would say the same about the Mini. I spoke with the Time Out Trailer folks today about the Blade trailer and with color matched paint and alloy wheels it will run about $3800. While I like the couple of photos I've seen of them I have a hard time buying something without first having looked at one. I've found a new Bushtec Quantum GL (GT) for $4900 that is about 2 hours from me. What to do? Dennis

That sounds like a nice deal. However after I had it painted to match I would be in at close to $3500.

I've started shopping for a new trailer to pull behind my new Goldwing. I want something that will look decent behind it that is color matched. I really like the Hannigan, Bushtec, and Sillouette trailers. The Hannigan would be my first choice but they had a fire recently and I can't get one until later in the summer. The Bushtec is kind of pricey and I haven't convinced myself they are worth $5000. The Sillouette looks good but they are crazy priced at $6000+. I also considered an Aluma MCT but my wife vetoed that based on looks. Tonight I ran across the Blade trailer from Timeout Trailers in Elkhart. http://timeouttrailers.org/Blade.aspx This is the first I've heard of them. From there website they seem to have a better value. Is anyone familiar with the trailer or company? Thanks, Dennis

Mice!! Dang, wish I had known about that and the screen solution while I had it apart. Oh well, next time. Dennis

4 hrs may be correct. I didn't dig in very deep. It looked like you need to get a lot deeper into the bike to find the filter. Dennis
-
I worked on it all afternoon making connections and hooking things up. I took frequent breaks and didn't work real fast. It probably took me about 30 minutes to strip all of the plastic off and 30 minutes to put it back together. Dennis

My thoughts exactly. I already had a Zumo 550 that I wanted to use anyway. And, the Honda GPS isn't very user friendly. Dennis

Ok, I spent the afternoon tearing the new Goldwing apart. Pulled all of the shelter, instrument panel, side covers and motor covers off and ran the wiring for my GPS and a 12V outlet in the left side pocket. I used the accessory plug under the pocket to trigger a relay which was connected directly from the battery. It really wasn't much harder than doing the same thing on my RSV given that I would of had to pull the tank, passing lamps, windshield and fairing to do a similar thing on it. A lot of the panels just pull of since they are held by rubber grommets. I probably had to remove fewer screws than on the Venture. Everything went back together well and the panels all fit easily. Now that I've got the GPS, XM and telephone working I now have to find some electronic filters to get rid of the alternator whining noise coming throught the AUX input. I've read that the noise fairly common so I hope the filters available online work. Dennis

Larry, unless you specifically want ABS and the Honda NAV, at $15,000 you're not too far from the price of a new base 2010 with that one. If you are interested in a CB that one doesn't have one on it judging from the antennas. A CB runs $800 or so. Through the end of this month Honda is running a $1000 dealer incentive plus $1000 in accessories (CB) a fourth year added to the warranty and 0.99% financing. The price on a base 2010 at Lawrencville Honda in GA (where I bought mine) was $18200 ($19200 - the $1000 dealer incentive) and you get a CB with a few more accessories for the $1000 accessory bonus and you have a 4 year warranty. But no ABS or Navi. Dennis

Dang Eck, that is ugly under there. I'm tearing into mine tomorrow. I've looked at the how-to videos and photos online and it looks more daunting than I suspect it really is. Just take it apart a panel at a time and reverse the process putting all back together again. Dennis
