My bike insurance policy is up for renewal in a couple of weeks and I received the renewal notice (from Dairyland) a couple of weeks ago. It was $338.50. I then noticed that since I bought the Goldwing and sold my Venture a few weeks ago that I had failed to drop the insurance on Venture. So I called my agent and took care of dropping the old bike. Last week I get a new policy renewal for the single bike and noticed that my rate had been lowered to the single bike rate. They dropped it $2.39. I thought someone made a mistake. Surely I couldn't insure a second bike for $2.39. So I called the agent and she said there must be some mistake. She put in a call to Dairyland and their explanation was that I lost my multi-bike discount and the rate was correct. She still thought that was bogus so she shopped the same coverage with other companies and came back with a rate of $210 from American Home. I've never heard of them but she recommended them and said that was who she had her bike insured with. So, I'll be switching insurance soon. FYI, Progressive was $389. Dennis

Sleeperhawk's early Father's Day present!

Congratulations on the seat George. I think it is an improvement over the pillowtops. I was thinking you might switch the seat out for a Goldwing seat. Dennis -
I went with the Kuryakyn rack. It worked with the LED wing and was easy to install. Dennis

Better get that thing in Joe. You've only got a week. Dennis

I've had great service from Colorado Chaps also. Great chaps! I wish she made rain suits. Dennis

I'll give a second vote for the Kuryakyn hitch. That's what I installed and while I haven't really towed with it yet it does look like it will do the job. I also looked at the Rivco but didn't like the idea of poking the drawbar through the fender. The Kury was fairly easy to install. The left crash bar clamp was a little tricky but not too bad. Dennis

Rocket, Check out www.spotwalla.com. If you set up an account there (free) it will pull the spot data from the spot service and plot it on a map also. However, it doesn't expire in a week. I found it easier to use than the findmespot.com site. Dennis

Now with the right license plate my wife says the trailer is complete. She wanted our dog to follow us everywhere. Dennis

From what I've read I believe they do. I think I saw one that was a small unit. A couple of the units would not work if the water temp was over 104 degrees. Dennis

Which system do you have? I've been trying to read up on them this evening. Salt water seems like the way to go but I can't find many reviews on different brands. Dennis

I know this isn't bike related but it't that time of year when I have to open the pool. I just had a new liner installed and I've been reading up on saltwater chlorinating systems. From what I've read they might be better than using traditional chlorine. However, I know nothing about the various brands. Is anyone using saltwater? What brand system do you have and what do you think of it? Dennis

Where is the best place to see Redwoods in N. California?

I had planned to ride through Napa Valley but I've had people tell me not to waste time doing that. Does anyone have an opinion on that? Dennis- 23 replies

We usually do a long ride (4000+ miles) each year. My wife generally flies out to area we plan to tour and I drop her at an airport after about 7 easy days of riding. This year our trip will be 6200 miles over 2 1/2 weeks. She's flying into Portland OR and returning out of Las Vegas. Dennis

This is roughly the route I've got planned between Portland and Las Vegas. Does it look reasonable to run in 7 1/2 days? http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/road.jsp?roadId=395465&locale=en_US Dennis- 23 replies

Thanks for the info. It looks like we'll definitely ride the Avenue of Giants. I would really like to make it to Sequoia Natl Park but we just don't have enough time. From Yosemite we'll to express down to Vegas so the ladies can catch a plane ride home. Is there anything else we should be sure to see along the coast? What about Coos Bay, OR? Dennis- 23 replies

We're headed to the Oregon and N. California coast this summer and I am trying to do a little planning. On the map it appears that there are several redwood state and national parks. Which ones to visit for seeing the big trees? We're hope to hug the coast as much as possible before we turn east to Yosemite. Dennis

Thanks Tom, I've added the Ergo II highway pegs with 4 1/2" arms and they seem about right for my 30" inseam. The problem I have with those is that it doesn't take much to drag them in the curves. I've got the arm parallel with the engine gaurd. One stop higher would bring them too high to be comfortable. I've also added the taller windshield which helped and the Kuryakyn risers. I haven't noticed a problem with the springs but I haven't put enough miles on it to really notice. I'm seriously thinking of adding the Centramatics when I change tires. Dennis -

Tom, Tell us what you've done to make it as comfortable as your RSV. I'm still working on it. Dennis -
Now I hadn't thought of that. I'll unplug it and see if it helps. Thanks, Dennis

I originally posted this on one of the Goldwing sites and got no response. For the last few weeks I've been trying to get my telephone synched up to work through the Zumo like I had it on the RSV. When I connect the mic splitter I get a lot of noise that sounds like alternator whine and I really don't know what to try next. The noise is coming through the mic circuit. Without the intercom on I don't hear it on the bike but the person on the other end of phone call does. I could live with that. However, when the IC is turned on the noise is unbearable. So far I have checked all connections and grounds. I replaced the noise isolator on the AUX input. I've tried both an MP3 and Edsets mic splitter. I tried unplugging the mic from the GPS but the noise is still there on the IC. If I take the mic splitter out there is no noise on the IC. I have the Honda rear passenger controller which gives you a filter that is plugged into the mic circuit. I've tried with and without it and there is no difference. I can increase or reduce the noise by moving the wires around but I can never eliminate it. Would a torroid magnet on of the wires help? Is there anything else I can try? Thanks for any help, Dennis
