Don't know how much room you're working with, but you can try to use a hair dryer to heat up the area around it. Take the pick, spray it with an aerosol air can, and using the little tube, shoot a little into the hole directly on the broken tool piece (long enough to get it cold). Then try the tapping & the magnet and the rest.

So, other than that, how was your week???? (ease up on Pittsburgh, there bud......don't make me come up there, lol!)

Been there, my brother! It's not easy, but take comfort in the fact that the pain subsides and the best memories stay with you always. Trust the Lord to clear you a path, light your way and pick you up when you stumble! Prayers sent for you and your family during this trial.

That's too bad about your dad. Hate that your son didn't get to see him before he departed. Prayers up for you all.

I can see it now......she gets mad at ya, breaks out the hardware and wham, bam...But, how would you go about explaining that to the doctor (or the cops) ? "Your Honor, I was minding my own business, when I first saw her and I just blurted out that they should have separate zipcodes. I mean really, look at those things. They should be painted grey and have Goodyear stenciled on them. Anyway, then she ripped her shirt off and the next thing I remember is waking up in the ER with a concussion" The only other thing I remember is a vague recollection of her asking me to hold a beer can."

Yeah! I have the Barons rear kit on my '98 TD and the caliper is relocated just like that.

It was from the "GovDeals.com". Cerviperus posted it back in 4/23/2008. According to the thread it was advertised as a '84 but there were doubts voiced here. Obviously it isn't there any more (sold or withdrawn). I remember the bike it was white with all the blue lights & police logos, etc. Any of the bike I see here or link to from here that I think are cool (to me), I'll usually copy the picture for my collection. Police bikes don't do much for me so I didn't keep a pic. Sorry!

I was going to ask you about that. Is there any limitation on year models for donors? Is it a straight & more or less simple transplant? Are there other things that have to go in besides the engine/trans.? I guess the better question is: Is there anything on this in the tech section?

Here's a little info I got from Pegscraper shortly after I bought my '98 TD. "The early Royal Stars do not have a counterbalancer in the engine like the Ventures do and they are geared even higher than the 2nd gens are. The Venture engine may run happily all day at 2000 rpms, but this bike will not. It will pound and shake like crazy if you try to run along at 2000 rpm. It needs to be running at least 3500 rpms or higher before it will smooth out. This engine will still vibrate at 65 mph given any throttle at all, even if the carbs are in perfect sync. Fifth gear is so high in this bike you won't get away from that vibration under throttle until you get up around 75 or 80 mph. Here are some suggested shift points to help you get used to this engine: 25, 45, 55, 60. That assumes moderate acceleration and a top speed of 60 mph. If your top speed will be higher, stretch them out a little more. Fourth gear in this bike is what fifth gear used to be in older bikes, and fifth gear is a ridiculously high overdrive at .75:1. Don't shift into fifth gear until you're all done accelerating and you've come to your final cruising road speed."

svchost.exe using 99% cpu

I had a page & a half of questions & recommendations for info to pull off the machine for us to analyze, and a couple of things to do, but in reality I truly believe you just need more RAM. Put in a Gig and your problems should be gone. I made a copy of what I had ready to post so if you would rather see that than this, I'll sure post it, but I don't think you'll need them if you get more memory. -
A guy I worked with back then, bought an '83 Royale. I was riding my '82 Suzuki at the time.

I will on occasion have one beer with a meal if I'm out with the bike. I generally ride alone (for a number of reasons) so it's no big deal for anybody else. (just as well as I get pretty gassy when I drink beer and I wouldn't want to hurt anyones feelings or paint). I will not ride with anyone who smokes weed. I don't like blasting down the interstate at 20 MPH with anybody!!! As "bikers"; as "refined" as we are, we are opinionated and at last check, pretty decisive! So, I would presume that means that we are not dependent on what someone elses opinion is to either form or justify our own! Individually, we each know our preferences and our choices. I would go further by saying that if anyone here did NOT know what their options were, they probably ought to consider walking. All that said, maybe a better question would be: Would I ride with someone who had excellent self control and knew their own limitations or not? ............Naaaaaaaaah!

Didn't we just have a situation just like this about 2 months ago???? Different bike but Indy and Montana sound awfully familiar. I think the one 2 months ago had the guy in the military or some such thing. Totally bogus!!!! -
Resettable circuit breakers are available in the non-aircraft market because I specified them on the first of the Grove 150 ton truck & crawler-mounted hydraulic lattice cranes back in the mid-'80s. I have long since forgotten whose I used, but I do know that Sierra International makes a similar breaker that is marine rated, so it should provide the vibration resistance and water resistance needed for a bike application. And they're less than ten bucks apiece. I've seen them on Amazon.com. If I can run across some of my old material, I may be able to ID what I originally used. It would likely have been a variant of a part I use in nuclear power, without the "N-Stamp". I'll check and get back to ya.

For what it's worth, in my experience, a solid friendship is something to keep. If it IS solid, all the extraneous crap will fall away and leave the friendship intact. You guys work together (another discussion entirely), have the common interests of your field of endeavor, the obvious interest in bikes & the open road. As long as eyes are wide open, I don't really see a problem. Admittedly, I tend to be a bit more......shall we say pragmatic and maybe a little more guarded than most, so I tend to value the connection more. If what she's doing isn't mercenary (ie- intentional) and even if it is (within limits)...no harm, no foul. For all we know, she could be operating almost entirely from her sub-conscious on this issue and not even be aware of creating any drama or test. We here have not been privvy to your conversations with her, so we don't know the extent to which Plato has been imposed. Based on your own discussion of the situation here, for any number of reasons, you are in the main, comfortable with it, as is, for the time being and that is (A) fine and (B) more important than any opinion we have about it. You have indicated that you are a scientifically minded person both intellectually and by profession, meaning that you have an analytical mind. As you have stated, those qualities have not been lost on this situation. And not being jaded about it has it's advantages. In sum, I see not one thing wrong with your approach or your reasoning (not that you need my signoff on it). I think what may be missing for some is the knowledge that being scientifically minded in an arena like physics, demands an almost inate ability to observe in great detail, analyze in depth, formulate a thorough response and then react. It's almost second nature and can occur in a few seconds or days or months or years as the subject matter warrants. It also gets tweaked on the fly as variables change. You know this.....It is me stating the obvious. My point is that while this a most interesting little life drama that I and others take some delight in following (and offering our wisdom on), you're there....1st person, present tense and a party to it! Finally, based on your postings to date, I think you've clearly stated that while not immediately interested in a more intimate relationship, you are not one to close off that avenue entirely, IF you and/or she decide to go in that direction (this would be where those additional conversations come into play). I don't know your age and it's not important, but you seem to have been around the block once or twice, seem to have a handle on it, so, all things considered, I think you'll do OK whatever happens. You'll do OK, that is, IF you don't do like many science guys and over-think/over-analyze it to the point of untimely indecision. Good luck! PS-I find chivalry refreshing in this day and age! It's hard to get away from my science-mind, instructor roots and having raised 2 boys...you just assume you know better and have to teach.
