  1. So sorry for your loss. I won't bore you with a story about losing my folks. Suffice to say, you are a lucky man to have been able to share activities with your dad and especially forgive and be forgiven...that is priceless!! In contrast, my father was a very hard man to know; he worked all the time when I was young to support 4 kids a wife and a house. He didn't really know how to communicate-especially feelings and more especially to his family. He was overly strict and a serious disciplinarian. But, I appreciated that somewhere in there was basically a simple, uncomplicated, ethical, God fearing man, who at one time in his life rode an Indian....an activity I have also enjoyed with the bikes I've had through the years. I must say that I do envy you your relationship with your dad. I would have given just about anything to have played catch or shot a couple of hoops or shot a box or two of ammo at the range. Oh boy what a downer.....sorry about that. Don't misunderstand, I loved the guy, we just never connected and that I regret. My point is Puc, that where I laid to rest a man that I knew well, yet didn't know at all, you can celebrate a life that you knew well, that knew you equally well, someone you shared so much with.....That is .........PRECIOUS! So, my friend, I will ask Gods blessing on you and your family during this time of loss and renewal. God Bless! Steve Risher (the one and only original Autopilot)
  2. I'm reminded of the song "The Cat's in The Cradle" by Cat Stevens! If you experience it, it bothers you even more. Take my word for it!
  3. I'm late getting on board, but the train is still pickin' up passengers from coast to coast... Saw the postings about your son's progress and had to smile...God is some kind of great as always! I offer my prayers as well in the full knowledge and experience that the Lord will answer. God bless all of your family, but particularly, your son as he keeps on healing!
  4. Thanks for the post Don!
  5. It's still as funny as the first time I read it......
  6. Admittedly, I haven't been on the forum much this year, but when I do come here I always check this thread. Now, I hope I am not being completely stupid when I ask this ( I looked for related threads, posts, etc. and found nothing), BUT, the last post was the end of May and it's now almost December....So I have to ask: Did something happen? I forget the dates now, but I did see some posts when I searched that seemed like LilBeaver was having some major bike problems (I may well be wrong on that as I was skimming the posts rather quickly, looking for anything that might cause me to come off like a complete boob for asking what was going on.) Hope all is well and forgive me if my asking was inappropriate because of some circumstances I wasn't aware of.
  7. Haven't been around as much as I used to, but when I saw this.....well, there was no other place to come for guys who would appreciate it. You may have already seen it. If so, excuse me for posting it again. I have no other words for this pic.
  8. OH my! I can't begin to comprehend your pain & grief, but my heart aches nonetheless. Celebrate his life and his spirit with the knowledge you alluded to; that when the Lord calls us home or comes to meet us in the clouds, you will certainly see him again. My earnest prayers, I offer up freely on your behalf and your family's..May God bless you all with peace & comfort beyond understanding during this trial.
  9. The Discovery Channel show "Hell Roads" had as one of the stories a couple of weeks ago, a piece of the Tail of the Dragon". I haven't had a chance to ride it yet, but my son did on a sport bike. He said you absolutely have to be on your "A" game and know with certainty both your & your bikes limitations. Still, I'd like to make the run all the same...preferably on an off day for tourists! (my concentration needs all the help it can get-LOL!)
  10. I'd have to pass on the 20+ year old SPAM.........Now, if that'd been 20 year old Twinkies, it would be a whole different discussion! I don't think they CAN go bad.... lol
  11. Wouldn't that be more correct to say "micro-muffin"? lol Either way, Congrats to the muffins....
  12. Check my post/thread 64070 from 9/26/2011 titled "Battery tender" for additional info.
  13. FYI..Keep a very VERY close watch on those Metzlers. There are threads throughout this place with horror stories about them blowing chunks and dumping bikes in the process. I don't know if they give any warning (cracks, squirm, etc.) before they come unglued....maybe some of the guys who have had them, seen them can give you a better heads up. Good luck with 'em & again....nice bike, my man!!!
  14. Glad she was ok! I hope she takes the lesson to heart as relates to the bf/ex. From some of what you related, he doesn't seem to be too caring when it comes to her! Will await your next.
  15. The godfathers are Wide White Wall tires. There are some bikes that look completely wrong with them. Others look wrong without them; that bike with that color combo is the latter.
  16. Not to be confused with chicken parts..... Me and my riding has been nothing short of a trainwreck this summer. When the heat and humidity get beyond a point, I have to pretty much hang up the chaps because I just can't seem to breathe well enough to go; that or I just don't feel good enough to go. The flip side of that is that when the temp backs off a bit, it's usually because of rain and thunderstorms and MORE humidity. Anyway, that story is to set up this story! Because I haven't gotten out much and because I didn't get good results of my last 2 Battery Tenders, I didn't have anything keeping the charge up on the bikes. The GW has had an ongoing little issue with off idle performance and has been sitting basically all summer, since spring. The RSTD sat for about a month and a half, early in the year and had to be jumped to get it started. Recently, it sat for about a month for reasons I mentioned earlier and I knew that I was looking at another round of "fun with batteries." Well, the weather had been really crappy and I had done some late night research into battery maintainers. Based on what I found, I decided to buy a "Battery Minder", having the anti-sufation circuit in it. It will charge at I believe it's 1.3 amps up to 14.1V then revert to a float charge mode to keep the battery up; in this mode it will periodically hit the battery with specific hi frequency AC current to accomplish the anti-sulfation (the sulfation being what kills the batteries when they sit for long periods). I had been told that if a motorcycle battery (wet cell or other) goes dead, it's basically toast and has to be replaced. Now, the new Battery Minders I bought had a battery condition monitor included with one of them. They say to check the battery and if you get no indication the battery must be replaced. The RSTD had the absolute minimun indication, the GW battery had none! Well, not being one to just jump out there and drop $60 or $70 on another battery for the GW, I went ahead (in conflict with the instructions, I might add) and hooked it up and plugged it in. Ditto the one for the RSTD. The RSTD charged for about 24 hours and went to float mode. A day later, I felt good, the weather felt good, so I disconnected the Battery Minder and she fired right up and I went on my merry way. The Goldwing showed charge state for a full 2 1/2 days,(they recommend no more than 72 hours) then went into float mode just like the doctor ordered. What floors me is that the last time the battery on the GW went dead from sitting, like that, I had to replace it. That's why I was going to at least try to charge it up before I sprung for a new one! The battery is up full and with the BatteryMinder it should stay in top condition for a long long time (riding occasionally wouldn't hurt either, but that's a different discussion) Bottom line......I am sold on the BatteryMinder! I will not use another brand of maintainer again, unless the company itself just goes away; then whatever I get will have antisulfation or I won't have it....period. The proof is in the performance and the BatteryMinder has that in spades, IMHO! (and FWIW Northern Tool had them for ~$40)
  17. George, I get a lot of different stuff shipped to me at home and so far I can't recall ANY of the items shipped by USPS having interim tracking data, even with a tracking number. They just don't operate like UPS or FedEx. I vaguely remember looking into it once and the USPS will even say that it may take several days for the tracking info. to catch up to current. (usually after the item would have been delivered....duh!) But all that appears to be the least of your problems at the moment, brother! It seems the fact that you got anything delivered at all is a big deal, notwithstanding that it has a wrong connector. I think I'd be tempted to replace it myself and declare victory! LOL
  18. Love the bike! A lot.......where exactly is it and what time is it unattended????? LOL Seriously though, that is my absolute favorite color combo for the Venture. Only one thing (aside from being mine) would make it better! A set of godfathers....see the pics. (no, it's not mine ......could've been, should've been, but I was too slow on the bid trigger)
  19. Congratulations! That's great to hear. It's good to get feedback like this anytime!!! Here's to continued good progress.. and a little prayer to boot!
  20. Why it's so soothing sitting out on the porch in the evening with the crickets chirping! If you had doubts before, this should help assuage them! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujBTOPhGLMo]Choir of the Crickets - YouTube[/ame]
  21. Where else could you find a bunch of opinionated, deaf old farts who'd say exactly what was on their mind? (provided of course that they actually remembered what was on their minds....lol)
  22. I got mine about the 1st of the year through the VA. They are Starkey Wi series, RIC (receiver-in canal) They are wi-fi between each other, and have adjustability for both volume and 4 or 5 pre-selectable environments. They're almost undetectable. They can reprogram the response curves later on as your hearing changes, too. They tell you when to change the batteries, audibly, by voice. You can mute them. Pretty cool tech all in all! http://www.starkey.com/~/media/Starkey2011/Images/product-overview/thumbs/ric.ashx http://www.starkey.com/~/media/Starkey2011/Images/product-detail/on-ear-ric-312.ashx www.starkey.com
