  1. I'm no doctor but that sounds dangerously low. You should probably see a real doctor soon.......
  2. You've got to hope that when the community has to pay for the lawsuit then they will make the lazy cops pay with their jobs. Eventually through firing the ones who shouldn't be doing the job you might end up with a force that can do the job. Until then all of our lives are in danger everyday because there's a gang of thugs operating behind the protection of their badges and they can largely do what they want to you and yours.
  3. I couldn't find info on this. Are you saying concealed carry is now legal in these states without a permit?
  4. The time Kirk needed to goad Spock into a fight in order to get him to snap out of his love trance caused by spores in "This Side of Paradise". I was pretty young when I saw it but I thought it might be the end of Cap'n Kirk. "Star Trek" This Side of Paradise (TV Episode 1967) - IMDb
  5. When I had long Cobra straights on my Vulcan 2000 I just felt sorry for the drivers of cars I passed around town. Later I got the Cobra HP two into one pipe instead. It's quiet until I really get on it and even then it's nowhere near as loud as the straights were. Typically balancing the exhaust pressure like that is good for a few horsepower too so I'm not missing the straights at all. I remember seeing some Hardleys with slashdown short pipes in a dirt parking lot. The exhaust would blast the powdery dirt up and all over the rider. Good times. I wonder if that's where they got the nickname dirtbags? Not that there's anything wrong with that sort of thing. Don't flame me, I'm just the story teller.
  6. This one is the future of carb syncing.......... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/watering-hole/95616-hey-check-digital-carb-sync-tune-1st-gen.html
  7. I don't know nothing about mopeds but I wonder if you shouldn't just ride the shiny one and wait until the Barber Museum calls you about the one with the nice red-brown patina?
  8. Buy Snagglestuds from Bob Meyers. Ask him if he'll quote drilling & tapping 1/4-20 in center of ends for you. Buy Ram ball mounts that screw in to 1/4-20 and some other linkage like a GPS mount, a ball for the rear of that and an arm that grips a ball on either end. For power I would consider a cigarette lighter USB converter and your USB cable that came with the GPS. Or I would replace the cig lighter with a wired-in USB Charging port with a watertight pop-off cover. You can wire in a charging cable but it has to convert 12v to 5v and you need a place for it to be when it's not being used. The other solutions for power that I gave solve that and are less expensive.
  9. I think you don't have to pay but here's the rule: Did you know you can access your 401(k) penalty-free at age 55? - Forbes Did you realize that there is a provision within the Internal Revenue Code that allows you to start taking distributions from your 401(k) plan before you reach age 59½? This little-known section of the code, §72(t)(2)(A)(v) to be exact, can be a real dandy if you happen to fit the requirements. Note: although we will refer to the 401(k) throughout this article, this code provision applies to all ERISA-qualified, employer-established defined contribution plans, which includes 401(k), 403(b), 501(a), and others, including the federal TSP. Here’s how it works: if you are employed by a company and are participating in the company’s 401(k) plan and you leave employment with that company at any time during or after the year in which you reach age 55, there will be no penalty for taking distributions from the plan. Normally, any distribution (other than specifically-qualified distributions) prior to age 59½ would result in a 10% early-distribution penalty being applied. It is important to note that these distributions only qualify when received from a company-established defined contribution plan – NOT an IRA account. Just to be clear: THIS PROVISION DOES NOT APPLY TO IRA ACCOUNTS. In order to maintain this penalty-free distribution, the funds must not be rolled over into an IRA. This is a critical distinction that you need to understand – a mistake would take away this option completely. Make certain that you completely understand how this works before starting a distribution, as it could be costly to make a mistake. Lastly, the Pension Protection Act of 2006 made an additional change to this rule: The age limit is reduced to 50 for retiring police, firefighters, and medics – so they can take distributions from their plans penalty-free at that age or after. For folks using the federal TSP as their retirement plan who are law enforcement officers, firefighters, or air traffic controllers, you can begin taking penalty-free withdrawals from TSP at any age if you have at least 25 years of service in those positions. Otherwise, the age 50 rule applies if the individual has had at least 20 years of service in one of those positions. With this rule in mind, many folks are able to start retirement earlier than age 59½ and take distributions without penalty and without having to set up a complicated Series of Substantially Equal Periodic Payments plan. For more information on this and other provisions, you can check out my book An IRA Owner’s Manual.
  10. Daayaam! If it really is a "maintanance" day, what's possible to get done with 280 people milling around?
  11. Oh yeah, there's that.
  12. If temps were in the fifties here in Omaha I'd be riding today. What'reyouwaitinfor?
  13. If everything you needed to work on wasn't in a recess and had plenty of room around it the tool might be useful. Unfortunately usually things are recessed into tight areas where you need a longer straight shaft with a good handle on one end and the business on the other. It looks cool, and like Puc said it would get people talking, especially about how much you spent on it.........
  14. What happens or fails to happen if they aren't aligned? I don't think I paid any attention to those when I put in new diaphragms but I'll bet it would be a big PITA to redo now. It runs well but I could handle it if it ran even better.
  15. I'm not sure why Tom didn't mention it but I'll assume he'll do the same as he did for me. You'll get the board and some instructions for how to place components. Tom has a list of parts and part numbers if you source them from Digi-Key. The LCD he used comes from Adafruit. You can get an Arduino Uno R3 clone from here for $8.50. Tom sent the compiled executable for the Arduino so you just load the windows drivers for it and transfer the executable to it. The hardest part was finding the vacuum lines for the connections. A tip there is to find some vinyl that fits the sensors tightly and cut just enough to slip over the orifice barrels. That will make the barrels of the orifices just a little larger so that the 1/8" vacuum hose fits them well. I used needle-nosed pliers to stretch the vinyl that I found at Ace Hdwr so it would fit over the barrels. You'll need to find way to couple the 1/8" hose to the larger size for the nipples on the Venture. You can try to find conversion couplers or make your own by finding sizes of vinyl hose that slip inside of each other. If you can get 1/4" or so to slide in it will provide an air tight splice. Do this multiple times till you match the size required. Have fun!
  16. If two people pooled resources each would pay $44 instead of $60 (for four). That's a good find.
  17. The only thing I didn't see mentioned here is that it's been reported that the front shouldn't be overfilled so I try to keep my fork pressure down below 20 or so. I had a bunch of trouble getting fork seals in that sealed the air/oil and I don't want to risk it.
  18. Different bikes behave differently but I notice on my VN2000 that the cable clutch will work differently when I have the bars turned full lock. This has caused me to stall while trying to do a delicate low speed turn, in which case I need my foot down on the pavement quick or let the clutch out more. If I'm already stalled with the bars at full lock letting the clutch out to near full engagement could cause an ugly incident especially if i'm just trying to get into a parking space. This doesn't happen with a hydraulic clutch since it doesn't wind a cable differently at different handlebar angles. You may or may not find that it has it's advantages depending on your experiences with the cable. Hydraulic clutches don't have a cable to fray and catch or break either.
  19. So these come with the board and the terminal strip and all at that price? Are you going to tell us where to get them?
  20. When there's snow in the driveway all around the 4wd SUV it's just too easy to decide to drive that. When there's snow on the mountain and you're touring you can try to wait for the snow plow but you've got to ride over the mountain sometime today. I hope this was helpful.
  21. It looks like there may be a hot (burned?) right ankle in store for early adopters. Those pipes aren't shielded. It doesn't look so special to me and my VN2000 already has 2053cc and water cooling. It is a little heavier though. http://archmotorcycle.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/KRGT-1_Landscape012.jpg
  22. Touring Hogs? I always thought that site was about something like this: http://static.panoramio.com/photos/large/45260555.jpg Post number 500!! WOOHOOO!!!
  23. I hope this works right. Here's a link to the 1st Gen Tech Library in case you had trouble finding it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forum13/ This is the wiring diagram for your year: http://www.venturerider.org/wiring/88-89%20Yamaha%20Venture%20DU%20Wiring%20Diagram%20Rev%20D.pdf Service manual is here: Venture Manuals If you don't need any signals then you may not need the part I was talking about. Unless it has been relocated to above the airbox then the igniter (TCI) part is on the left side above the front cylinder. This must be retained and maybe replaced for your model year. Here's a thread that links several other threads above relocating it and help you find which it is: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/first-generation-venture-tech-talk/89381-removing-tci-help-post868797.html#post868797 I found the last of those four to be the most revealing since there's photos in it.
  24. Wow, for the price of one of those you could build one of these: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/watering-hole/95616-hey-check-digital-carb-sync-tune-1st-gen.html
