Day 5 Edmonton to San Diego - It just keeps getting better
syscrusher replied to bmiller's topic in Watering Hole
If you've seen Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox you must have been near the "Wild Mad Road". My favorite road name ever, I think. "Poison Spider Road" outside Casper, Wy may be one of my least favorite. There is a "Poison Spider Elementary School" on that road. -

The fields of flowers around Lompoc are interesting and it's good between Santa Barbara and Santa Monica. Where are the good routes through the hills around LA though? -
Spark Plugs

I guess what the one guy talked about having extra material from the larger ground conductor score the cylinder wall worried me. I once liked "Split-Fire" plugs and ran them in a Toyota I owned. This may not have been the plugs fault either because it started with a bad head gasket but then it turned out that part of the insulator cracked off and scored the cylinder. Now a head gasket replacement was much more costly. I don't use "Split-Fire" anymore though, probably won't use E3 in anything more involved than a lawnmower either. -

For some reason a 'c' was appended to the end of the URL, delete the 'c' and it works perfectly. http://www.kfx450hq.com/forums/general-discussion/7623-e3-spark-plug-warning.html -

Here's a thread I found that's pretty critical of E3 plugs: http://www.kfx450hq.com/forums/general-discussion/7623-e3-spark-plug-warning.htmlc -

What is the plug number for the E3's. I've seen those for yard equipment so they're probably not resistor plugs, are they? -
After the VMAX 1700 came out I started bugging the GM at my LBS as to whether Yamaha was going to put that engine in a new RSV or something similar and I was told that the VMAX motor was just too costly. A re-envisioned RSV would be more expensive than anyone would ever pay. That being said, there aren't any 1700 VMAX motors on eBay to buy. Also, I have seen some discussion of the frame strength of the VR not being up to the higher torque. The payload rating is less than 400 lbs., indicating a frame that is lightweight. Other wise, maybe I'll buy a kit from you once you have things worked out? :080402gudl_prv:c

I am missing one of those, but where it is the front cowling would hold the grommet for it and that small plastic "loop" is broken off as well. I suppose I can make a new loop out of some similar plastic and then glue it on with some sort of glue. What do people tend to use for gluing up their plastics, I read a lot about cracked plastics?

I just wondered if others have installed the HH and considered it quite an upgrade. I am not liking the linked brakes very well and will probably be installing one of Skydoc's unlinking kits soon. I have a sloping driveway and just a right side front brake is inadequate when I'm backing the VR down the drive. Also when I'm riding, because of the cramped legs I want to have as much braking as possible available to my quick hand rather than my slow foot that often flounders under the edge of the brake pedal rather than pushing down on it. This only for a moment, but it makes me sooooo much less able to bring it to a stop than if I could just squeeze. My hand never misses the hand brake - never.

That's a great idea! I didn't even think about having a 12v accessory plug on the bike. The FM transmitter I have plugs into the 12v port and also has a 3.5mm jack on the side where I'll plug in the[ame=http://www.amazon.com/EP-B3502-Wireless-Bluetooth-Receiver-Stereo/dp/B008ATAIUU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1374556312&sr=1-1&keywords=edup+ep-b3502+wireless+car+bluetooth+music+receiver+stereo+output+a2dp+for+phone+ipod+3.5mm]Amazon.com: EDUP EP-B3502 Wireless Car Bluetooth Music Receiver Stereo Output A2DP For Phone Ipod 3.5mm: Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41OmeSm%2BgHL.@@AMEPARAM@@41OmeSm%2BgHL[/ame] and then I can just listen to the music from my phone through it.

I put one of those fake cassettes with the 3.5mm jack to play music through the cassette desk from your phone or mp3 player. How do I switch to radio without removing the fake cassette? The cassette deck is super horky (named for Svetlana Horkina), does anyone make a more useful replacement for that slot? This is for VR MK2.

Condor, will the pegs from a MK1 fit on a MK2 and does the adjustment really move your foot forward more than the fixed position of the MK2? When I look at the bike there is a lot of room to move the pegs downward and forward using a different mounting plate. I have an AirHawk pad that I may try but I actually have shortish legs for my height but my calves and hamstrings are both large which when my knee is bent greatly stretch the tendon at the front of my knee and puts a lot of pressure on the knee joint itself. Since I'm not yet used to the bike my legs feel shorter than they are when it comes to reaching the ground, especially if the ground is uneven. My driveway for instance, if the front wheel was not yet up on the sidewalk and the rear wheel still on the street that first section is steep enough that my legs wouldn't be long enough if I stalled there.

I'm in Maple Village area, NW of 90th and Maple. Nice to know someone else in town has a VR. For the footpegs, my knees just can't fold over so tightly for long. I'm not completely sure of the cause but my back feels injured and the front of my knee feels overstretched after buying the bike Thursday and riding it Friday and Saturday. Saturday morning I did strain to physically push my home-built trailer back into place on my sloped driveway. I could be feeling so beat-up because of that. Thanks for the reply, what part of town are you in?

I've seen a few references to footboards and/or extended controls, etc. but most of these end in an old link to eBay or an offer to sell some long gone. Does anyone have any currently or know of details to fab whatever is required?
