  1. Sunday I was out for a ride with another couple, I was on my 06 Venture they were 2 up on a RSTD. It was sunny and 24 degrees Celsius. We rode for a good hour before stopping and when we did I could hear a noise coming from his bike. I asked him what the noise was and he said the cooling fan. It then occurred to me that I have never heard my fan come on and it got me wondering. So today I checked the fuse and it was ok, so I asked a Yamaha service manager and he told me that’s not unusual and that it takes a lot before the fan comes on. I’m wondering what other 2nd gen riders experience with your bikes, do you hear your cooling fan kick in and what’s the temperature around the engine like when it does? Does it make a difference when you ride 2up? When you stop after a run is your fan running? Perhaps I should test my thermostat and temperature sensor??
  2. Next Wednesday, June 15, is national Ride to Work Day. This marks the 18th national Ride to Work Day. Ride to Work Day is a Minnesota-based non-profit organization whose mission statement is "advocating and supporting the use of motorcycles and scooters for transportation, and providing information about everyday utility riding to the public." We at the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) support this group and encourage everyone to participate, at the same time wondering, shouldn't every day be ride to work day? Learn more at http://www.ridetowork.org/ OOOOPPS, I thought it was yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that,etc... Later, Scooter Bob
  3. Hi everyone! I just aquired a beautiful 1986 Venture Royale 1300. The bike was my brothers and he stopped riding it a couple of years back. I'm in Georgia and the bike is currently still with him in Michigan. He just shipped me the carbs and I'm going to start going through them tomorrow. He replaced the diaphrams in it just recently and I guess didn't get the results he was looking for so he gave up. I'm wondering if a rebuild kit is available or necessary? Also, I'm wondering the do's and donts here. I'm not a mechanic but am pretty good with things like this. A good buddy of mine is a master mechanic and I will be at his house with these carbs tomorrow to start going through them. I'm wondering however, what will NEED to be rerplaced and what can be foregone? My mechanic friend forgets I'm broke and will have me buying EVERYTHING new. I need to only replace what needs to be replaced. I'm on a tight budget. Should all gaskets and o rings be replaced? Needles? Jets? etc? Once I get them all done I'll be flying to Michigan to put them back on, sync them and "hopefully" have a great ride back home. Any help or advice before I get started would be much appreciated. OH!!! I almost forgot. How do I know the diff between 1st gen and 2nd gen?? I'm sure I'll be reading and posting regular. I'm particular about this stuff and will want my new baby to be perfect!!! Thanks again in advance!!
  4. Just on my way back from lunch and saw a two tone blue first gen. on hwy. 142 in Covington Ga. going by the home depot. First one i have seen in my neck of the woods, just wondering if it was a member. I did not have enough time to turn around but it looked like a very nice bike.
  5. How often do you need to put air in your shocks? Just wondering the average miles or time. Rod
  6. Just in case anyone was wondering if this could be done, Yes you can put other HD pipes on your RSV once you put the "adapter" brackets on. I bought my 2000 RSV used, in 2005. It had BUB slip-ons on it at the time. The chrome on the end caps had deteriorated to the point where they needed to be replaced. However, I did not want to pay the $200 that new end caps were going to cost. Plus, they were too loud for me (I think the previous owner removed the baffles). I then bought the HD muffler brackets sold on VR, and put on a set of drilled out RK mufflers. I liked them, but was looking for just a little more sound. Recently, I got a set of brand new HD touring BUB slip-ons off EBAY for $80 (Yes, $80!), and they fit right on the "adapter" brackets. They're still pretty loud, though, so I don't know if I'll keep them. If I decide to sell them, I'll post 'em here first to see if anybody wants them. If not, I'll put 'em back on EBAY. Anway, just in case anyone was wondering...
  7. wondering what the E1 code means?
  8. Does anybody know if the body parts for all 1st Gen. years are interchangeable? Specifically the fairing and side cover pieces. I have an '86 1300 and was wondering if pieces from an 83-85 1200 will fit it? Thanks.
  9. I have been using this for 1 1/2 years now. No problem with the clutch. I have been using it in everything from the bike to the mowers to all the vehicles. Just wondering if anyone here has used it yet.http://www.motorkote.com
  10. So when it comes to synching the carbs is this something that needs to be done on a routine basis or when a problem occurs? I've the the 04 RSV I purchased in 06 and have never had it done. I don't have any problems with the way it's running but with my long trip coming up I'm wondering if I should have it done.
  11. I have an 85 trunk that I want to put on my 84. I have the trunk and the bracket that holds it but I'm missing the bar that holds the antenna. Does anyone have one that will fit they'd be willing to part with? I was wondering if the Mk2 would be the same. 84 is shorter so won't reach past the edge of the trunk and is not attached the same way. Wayne
  12. Ok, I am curious how many folks are running the MU90B16 and if any uses the MT90B16? The best I can tell the "MU" is about a half inch wider at most. I alway ran the MU but just wondering if anyone is running the MT.
  13. Clutchless shifting that is. Once I get up to 3rd gear, alot of times I am guilty of shifting to 4th and 5th without the clutch. I let of the gas of course, but does it do any damage. It's pretty smooth. Just wondering if I am the only one?
  14. Hi All, New to this forum, but loving it so far. I'm vertically challenged (5' 7") and I'm getting tired of not being able to see over the top of my windshield and going crazy trying to see through it the rain. So, I'm getting ready to buy a new windshield for 07 RSV and was wondering a couple of things. What brand do you recommend? What is the best way to determine the correct size for me.
  15. Hey! Can anyone explain the difference between a CD and TC ignition system? I am looking at an alternative tach and the manufacturer (If you are interested): http://autonnicmanufacturing.com/Home_files/Page1237.htm said theirs would work on a 4 cycle, 4 cylinder engine if it were not a CD system. Manual says 2nd gens have a TC digital system. Just wondering.
  16. Will the trunk from an 86 VR fit on my 83? I like the style of the backrest better and was wondering if it's a straight swap.
  17. Going to go for an aftermarket rear progressive shock for my 83', wondering where to get one or a part number and help would be great.
  18. has anyone heard more on tessac2.?? . ( pete klassen). I was wondering how he is doing..
  19. Does anyone have any pictures of their installed braided ss lines. Just wondering how they look. Probably going to get them regardless, but would like to see them installed. Thanks
  20. It was about 4:30 this morning when I went to get on my bike to come to work. It was about 35 degrees, when I started it up I noticed the tach was not working. This is a first, as I rode in the tach started responding very slowly. By the time I made the 20 mile ride the tach was acting better but still slow to react. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen, wondering if the cold had something to do with it. Any thoughts?
  21. Has anyone ever purchased air deflectors for their rides from this dealer? I've been looking at them for my 88 VR and was wondering if the prices are resonable. Check the link out and see what you think. http://www.bakerbuilt.com/yamaha.htm
  22. Getting ready to buy new tires (front and rear), getting Avons, liked them on my Roadstar so they're going on the RSV. Just wondering where everyone is getting them from nowadays. J&P have pretty good pricing, you join their "club", you get 10% off. It's $50 to join, but I'll end up with about half of that back with the tire purchase. The price is 139 ea on the tires. Southwest is about the same price and Motorcycle Superstore is about the same with the discount offered. Just wondering what people are doing. Thanks
  23. Any body put a set of 16's on there royal star was wondering what the cable specs were. 96 By the way
