  1. Ruffy - I've only had the wind wings for 6 months or so, hard to believe it took so long to get them mounted.
  2. Motorcyclist’s Prayer Lord, thank you for the open air, The feel of wind blowing through my hair; Just me alone upon my bike, The thrill of freedom’s what I like. To wind through country unexplored, Not knowing what I’ll see next, Lord; That’s what I seek when off I ride, I’m thankful that you’re by my side. If I should ride ‘til morning’s light, Please keep me safe throughout the night; And when I’ve come to journey’s end, It’s you I’ll thank – Protector, Friend. T.H.S.
  3. For those of you with a modular helmet AND headsets...any problems with radio or intercom because of wind noise? I've always worn a full face & just bought a set of HJC Symax II modular helmets. I knew modulars had more wind noise than a fullface, but after a test ride tonight in 20mph breeze, there's quite a bit more noise...so much in fact that I'm wondering if installing new J&M headsets is going to give decent results or be a waste of time. I'm guessing others out there are using a similar setup successfully but just wanted to verify while I can still return the helmets for refund if I choose.
  4. I went and ordered the hitch for the scoot. I already did the thread on whether or not to use brakes on the trailer. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47141 Now I just need to design and build the trailer. I need to a lot of pricing out parts to see if it is more cost effective to build a trailer from scratch, or to start with something like a Harbor Freight trailer and modify from there. The box needs to be a minimum of 96 x 40 x 20. At this point in time I am thinking of making the box out of marine grade plywood with a one piece hinged lid. Maybe a sloped and/or V nose to help wind resistance. I am still concerned about side wind load in a strong cross wind. That is a big trailer for a bike but what I need to carry is not heavy, just big and fragile. I am open to ideas for the construction of this beast.
  5. It was really windy here yesterday. I was riding home from work directly into a 30-40MPH head wind. This is the same route that I have driven every workday for the last 10 years so I know it well. I pulled up to a red light, on level ground, fairly new concrete surface. I was first in line at the light. With every wind gust the bike was pushed backwards and my feet on the ground (rubber soled shoes) did not have enough traction to hold the bike against the wind. I had to hold the front brake to keep from backing into the car behind me. This is with the wind blowing on the most aerodynamically clean side of the bike. After reading in several threads recently about parking in gear, and tales of the wind blowing over the bike, I am reformulating my beliefs as to how to safely park this thing. I can believe that with the bike parked with a strong tail wind that the faring and windscreen are acting like a parachute that the wind could move the bike forward enough to fold up the side stand. Parking in gear will/should help to prevent this from happening. I know that I once parked a manual transmission cage pointed up a hill and left it in first gear, and it was able to turn the engine over backwards while it chugged slowly down the hill. I do not know how much force it would take to move a bike while parked in gear but I am certain that it would be a lot more than in neutral.
  6. I am thinking of purchasing some lower wind vents (I am already feeling the heat)...and have only seen one picture of them installed....and the angle was from the front, which meant you could barely see the vents. Could someone post several angles of the vents from the back and also a closer view of the clamps. Thanks, Wally
  7. This passed friday morning, melody & I, packed up the bike & trailer, and headed south, on chrome aveune to 41 west. We crossed the everglades, trying to miss, the rain bands, that were, stream lining across I-75, at mid-morning. we caught a few rain drops at Chrome & 41, but most of our ride, was just over case., tempetures below the rain line, were like in the 70's, but once we got closer to the storms the temps dropped, quickly to the low 50's.. the ride across 41, was an easy cruise, at about 55-60. and most of the time, there were no cars behind us.. Upon entering the area of Marco Island, and turning to the north on 41, the winds started to pick up,, but still able to cruise at 60 mph. with in a few minutes of getting into Naples, the skys opened up, and the wind gusted from 45 to 60 mph, dropped us to a speed of just 20 mph. the vis was less then 10 feet at times. (melody comes over the intercom) Mike are we riding sideways?, No babe that the wind pushing us across the road, I reply......, every cage moved out of our way. we rode straight throw all the rain. I think this was the hardest rain we had ever seen, ( Like a fire hose, wide open on our heads) stopping only once, to let traffic pass us., we made our way out of Naples, the rains let up alittle, but we still rode the right lane, with the flashers on, and could only reach a speed of 40 mph. the winds beat the day lights out of us. (Melody knowing the area better then I) Informs me we have 40 miles to go. I'm thinking "Oh Joy".. Now about 1:30 pm, we stop for gas. inspect the bike & trailer, as we always do., top off, and into the rains and wind again., the roads, became more so bare, as we got closer to Ft. Myers, and we could see way. Trees down, water up and over most of the roads. the winds were hammering the area. we slowly made our way to the outter roads of Sanibel, (Thinking to myself how wonderful its going to be) the crossing of the bridges, this is going tobe horrorfying. ( I told Melody to hang on for her life) the bridge is covered with oil, from the cars, we may drop the bike, if i can't control it. what ever you do, hand onto the bike. and if I lean, to the right, lean with me. even if it scares you. so we prepare ourselfs going up the bridge, as the wind hammered the front of the bike, and slowed our accent to 3 mph, the oils from the car, made it fell just like ice. and the wind, pushed us, into the on comming line, briefly. as we crested the top.. I could see the trailer, sliding to the left, as we start our decent, into the wind, down the other side. the clutch out and in 2nd gear, we slowly made our way, down the 1st bridge. ( I felt like I was stairing the grime reeper dead in his face) the only thing keeping me going, was shear fear......., I pulled over, to regain my wits, and for a few seconds, (for me time, to relax, from the extreme stress). My arms, and back felt like I just got beat to a pulp. Melody comes over the intercom, Mike lets just get there. i cant feel my arms or hands I'm so cold. I'm freezing. We pull out into traffic, and head for the second bridge, this one alot lower, But just as windy, we crawled across this one, and the little flat bridge, the same way. when we hit the Island, most of the people were trying to leave. all the roads were flooded. and tree branches, all over the roads., they had just been hit hard, buy this storm. now, protected, from the winds, the cold creep up on me, and I finally felt the weather. I was soaked straight throw. as we made our way to the cottage on Captiva Island. my body was completely Numb. Melody, jumped off the bike, and headed for the room to jump in the shower, to get her body tempeture back up. she was shaking, un-controllable. while she was warming up in the shower. I un-loaded the trailer. & Bike, and turned the heater on in the room.. then followed suit. it rained all night. winds slowly dead downed after mid-night. The weather reports said, by 7 am Sanibel Island would have no clouds, with bright sunshine, and be about 70. as we returned in, I remeber thinking, "never again" will we ride in something like this. and made a packed with my wife. the following morning. That I will never to put her in danger, like that again. The next morning: To our surprise, it was 71 degrees, and the brightest blue skys, you've ever seen. It hert to look up. about 9 am we went to breakfast, then layed on the beach, conoe'd, bird watched, and did alittle shopping, and ate at fantasic eatery's. Sunday morning we, had a small breakfast., then had a fantasic lunch with some friends. and we headed home. we found the winds had picked up, as we rode I-75 south into Naple, But was grateful, we turned away from the winds, heading east, across the alley. It made it a pleasent trip home. (Melody) you ever notice, that when people get on the Alley, the seem to drive faster, like there afraid, their car is going to break down, while crossing here". and you know, its so true. the fear of being stranded...... I don't know, I like ridiing it all the time, but I enjoy my ride, 65-70, I don't see it as a barren waste land. our ride over on Friday 4.5 solid hours. our ride home 2.75 hours. Star Touring & Riding (Broward FL) Freemasons Riding Club (FL) Venture Riders (National) Hollywood Riding group (Broward) Patriot Guard Riders (PGR)

  9. Has any one used a Precicion Plastic wind sheld ? Do you like it or not? thanks for input!
  10. BradT

    Doh

Never guess what I done, I sort of dropped Naugh-T's new bike. Took it off the trailer, started it up and brought it down to the sidewalk and put the kickstand down. As I walked away and about 10-20 seconds later I turned back and it starts to fall over. I know the kickstand is down all the way but maybe with the slight slope it rolled forward. It was scary I picked it up but only after the signal light smashes, a couple other sratches and a bunch in the wind shield. Extremely happy there are No scratches in the paint. Then I thought how scary it will be to tell Naugh-T , who took it much better than I would have. No pics. Brad
  11. I thought one of our members made chrome wind deflectors. Did a quick search in classifieds but I can't seem to find it. Can you help me? Thanks Deb
  12. I need thoughts "pro or amatuer" on a gps mount. I am thinking of the N-B238U standard mount on the plastic cowl, forward and to the left of the gas cap. a 3.5" arm N-B201U to get the unit up closer to the speedo and cass. player. I have the garmin nuvi 255w and i'm thinking this will help keep it out of the wind and weather. the steering should go lock to lock without it beeing in the way, i think. any thoughts please chime in, thanks. tired of getting lost......
  13. Just thinking, my cell phone has a in-the-ear speaker/mic. I was wondering is anyone ever hear on these speaker/mics for motorcycle applications? It would seem to be to be the best way to talk without wind noise. Mark:250:
  14. As I scan the "watering hole", I keep seeing threads for things such as large and improved polished fork "wind" deflectors and keeping the "wind" off your knees deflectors and windshield squabbles on height to stop the "wind" and more! I just wonder, Whatever happened to the idea that on a motorcycle the whole experience is "to be in the wind" to smell the fresh air when you pass a pond or lake, to smell the fresh tilled fields and burning autumn leaves. Fresh cut hay and fields of clover are ever so pleasant. There's something to be said for the breeze on your skin,,,in your face.... It seems a shame to hide behind full face helmets a windshield, knee guards and fork deflectors all trussed up in designer "wind and water repellent" riding suits!,,,crap,,,if I wanted to be so isolated from the "wind" I guess I'd just as well cage it, but then,,,,I'd miss that unmistakable "sound" ! OH YEA I LOVE "THAT SOUND",,,,,,,,and,,,,,,,,,,"THE WIND" ,,,,, (It sings if you listen)! Renne:backinmyday:
  15. Can anybody compare the aero stich over suit to the triumph, for wind & rain blocks? I have a triumph that does a great job on wind & rain but velcro is pulling loose in several places in less than a year. Thanks TC
  16. When I bought my first 86 Ursula Gold on Black, I found a temp strip to stick to the bottom of my left mirror. Anyone know where to find those? Or is there something else? Actual road temp is impossible due to wind chill, but wind chill DOES give some warning before one runs into Colorado black ice. Now, don't let that discourage you from coming to CO. Today it was in the mid 50's and I putt in 55 miles in the foot hills of the CO eastern front. Thanks for the info from anyone. JackZ
  17. Well I completed my longest ride. I rode 765 miles each way on my trip to CMA's Changing of Colors Rally. It was a great ride other than the wind but my 99 RSV ran great!
  18. Sorry if this is using the wrong thread category, but I know I read on here somewhere that one of our members made wind reflectors for the knee area. I can't find it and if you know who it is, please let me know so I can contact them. I am really interested in a set. thanks Don
  19. I have seen the posts concerning the wind deflectors to keep the “breeze off the knees”. For whatever reason when my feet are on the floorboards this does not bother me. However, when I throw my feet op on my highway pegs I’ve created this wind tunnel which routes the wind straight up my legs and onto my upper body / face. At highway speeds it is pretty irritating for long stretches and I like to have my legs extended; I’m 6’5”. Will the deflectors reduce this wind as well? It seems as though they would not help this situation - but if you think they will work, though I’m not a big fan of the look, I’ll definitely try adding them. Second question: I am considering the taller – wider windshield because ..well I’m taller and wider. Has anyone had experience with these?
  20. Can someone please tell me who it is that sells the deflectors to keep the wind off the knees? Winter is coming and they could come in handy for those cold rides. Thanks....... Art
  21. Just recently I was rearend and totalled my boulvard, and man am I going through withdrals, while talking to my neighbor with the "Goat path" he turned me on to the rsv, I have to say this is a great site, while I was reading about windsheids I got to thinking, I leave at 5 am and it can be cold and I hate cold wind in the morning, but on my way home it is nice to have the wind in my face, has anyone contemplated connecting a cager window motor to thier windsheild and having the best of both worlds?
  22. Went for my first ride today since hip replacement:cool10: The wife is out of town for a few days no car so had to go to town:whistling: It was great feeling the wind in the face after 10 weeks. Had absolutely no probs or pain:banana: Should be good to go for St Judes Run John
  23. My stock windshield was starting to get a bit hazy. It was high enough that if the sunlight or bright headlights hit the shield i couldn't see anything. So I cut the bottom 1.75" off of the screen with a cutoff wheel and redrilled the holes. Now the top of the screen is right at the 2 second following distance when I am sitting comfortably and riding at 65mph. The wind blast is about 1/2 inch above my helmet. At 75mph the windblast is just touching the top of my helmet with no extra noise. For now I like it, I will report back in about 3 weeks. Pictures available Saturday.
  24. I just purchased a 03RSV a month ago, I had a 86 Venture years ago and didn't notice the wind like I have with the 03, I put a new Clearview Medium windshield with the vent on and it did help some, I have the hoods on all of the front lights (5) and am thinking this might be causing some of the problem and thought I would ask what anyone's thought were before I took them off, I've got the J&M head sets and hear fair at low speeds but just turn the audio off at highway speeds. The hoods look nice but will do without them if this will help!
  25. I just installed a Hoppe fairing on my 07 RSTD and noticed a lot of wind coming under it. Has anyone installed a Hoppe and modified a set of lowers to deflect the wind? pics would be nice if possible.
