  1. We left the Hub on Thursday morning so that we could visit with my Sister who lives in Ravenden Ar. Had a nice visit and stayed the night. Ride across Arkansas was excellent. My sister and her husband bought us breakfast at 7:30 Friday morning in Pocahontis AR and we headed out. We are now in Coldwater Michigan. Made pretty good time and had no problems. Gonna get some shuteye and should be home tomorrow (Saturday) night. Hey Carl (and anyone else) want to ride Sunday afternoon?? Wayne
  2. Had a surprise visit from Muffinman yesterday afternoon, he stopped by on his way to Ft. Benning along with Blackjack, Wingman, and His wife. We comensurated for a while and then had a grand meal of Jambalaya, green beans, French bread garlic toast and chocalate cream pie for desert. As most of you know, Jeff is heading for Iraq to work for Uncle Obama for a year so it just made sense that since we are on the way, he stopped here for an overnite visit. Really gonna miss seeing the guy for a year and not seeing him post as often as he does, but I am sure Mini will keep us posted on his goings on. Those guys and gals over there are in for a real treat and one heck of a mechanic, cause if he is as good with planes and helicopters as he is with 1st Gens, they got the best mechanic around. I am sure everyone appreciates his sacrifice helping out like this, Thanks Jeff, your one of a kind. I know Mini is going to have a tuff time without Jeff around, so Mini if you need to talk to someone or lean on, you gots lotsa :bighug:family here so dont be shy, we are here for you. It was a nice little meet and eat and the last one we will have with the Muffinman for some time...........but when he comes home, we will have a grand one, I am sure..............
  3. HAD A WONDERFUL VISIT FROM SQUID AND LONNA THIS WEEKEND...Taters and I had a great time..got to see his new scoot, along with watching Brad SWEETALK the ice cream girl out of an extra scoop for his banana split....( how embarasing) lol.....now that hes gone, I have to go grocery shopping to replenish my emergency disaster food supply...does he ever stop eating...us LITTLE GUYS can't figure out where he puts it all away....lol..had to send him to Bongobobs before I went broke...2 dozen egg eggs for breakfast???? that was just for BRAD...Thank goodness Lonna can survive on birdseed alone.....you guys should have warned me about him..I thought we are family....lol....just kidding ..It was great haveing you guys over and you are welcome here ANYTIME....Had a ton of laughs and we really enjoyed ourselves...have a safe trip home....ps.. FREEBIRD he's stopping at your house...leave now..you still have time to get away..get out now...save yourself..
  4. Well I guess you are back home now, It was an honor and a privledge to meet you and share your wonderful Black Death..........I know how it got that name now, I experienced it......... Hope your visit was a memorable one, and I certianly hope to meet up with you again and ride with you. I would love to visit your country and ride it as you have ventured to the US and ridden here, you only saw the tip of the iceberg, next time you will have to come to Georgia and Todd, myself, Blackjack, just to name a few will take you on some the best riding roads in the US. Tail of the Dragon would just be for starters.........but no Black Death before that ride......for sure or you might end up wearing that label permanently. Thanks for coming to MD, it was special for all of us............
  5. My wife Shirley and I would like to thank Don and Ilene for their great hospitality and welcoming us into their home. This was our first maintenance day visit and it certainly will not be our last. Did I mention the food was fantastic, and kudos to the chessecakes. Great work ladies!!!! We only had a short ride in from the east side of Cleveland, and along the way, we met up with a group from Canada. A special thanks to Carl and Marca's group for allowing us to ride in with them. Thanks to a great bunch of guys, I was able to get a lot of useful information.
  6. Riding over to Roanoke on the 18th. Will spend the night in that area getting ready to ride south on the parkway. Hope to take in Mount Airy and ride the police car, stop by Boone Nc to visit our son, who is a Army Recruiter in Boone. Have been wanting to do this ride for a few years now.
  7. I was more that pleased when Gary Swartz (GS 51) showed up today to "my little shop by the creek" all the way from Mount Joy, Pa. (3 hrs.) for a Carb. Sync. a peek at his Diaphragms (on the first date!) and some great BSing about his ownership of the very first Venture Royale EVER PRODUCED! Both his 83'VR and my 87'VR are in the Article on the History of the Yamaha Venture Royale in the Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_Venture_Royale We have seen each other's bikes in the article, spoke on the phone several times but have never met in person till today. Overall his bike was in very good condition with just over 24,000 miles. Aside from the typical Maintenance items it ran well when it got here and ran even better when it left. I look forward to a visit from Gary again in the near future when we will try to get this piece of "Living History" in even better shape! I have attached some pics of our little mini maintenance day below for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy, Earl

  9. Hello Friends: My brother and I are planning a trip to Maine this August via PA,NJ,NY,CT,MA,VT,NH,ME. Just wanted to know if there are any spots along the way that are a must see or visit. We will be gone around 8-9 days and hope that my new friends here on the web can give me some advice as to places to visit, ride suggestions, or anything else we should consider for this trip. No such thing as a bad suggestion, we are always open to any and all ideas! Thanks, Steve
  10. I finally got back out in the garage yesterday and finished doing all the work that I had planned to get done on the bike over the winter and had been procrastinating about. I even repaired the windshield bracket where the plastic tabs had broken. Never fails, read about something on here, go out and check the bike and sure enough there it is, broke. Oh well, I made up the brackets welded them to the ends of the windshield bracket and bolted them to the speakers. Good to go. Just had to change the oil and wash the bike. I got the oil change done this morning. Then we were invited to an Easter brunch at noon. So I figure as soon as we get back I'll give it a quick wash and I can go out and enjoy the rest of this beautiful day and break in the new tires. OH NO! I no more then finished drying off the bike and in comes the neighbours to visit. They leave and in come some other friends to visit too. By now it's about 6:30 and the temp is dropping and it's time to eat. No ride today, but it was close. Hope it's nice tomorrow.
  11. Had a good visit with Leeway yesterday and last night. He showed up yesterday morning and it looked like rain but cleared up and turned out to be a nice 75 deg F day, so we took a pleasant afternoon ride and came home to some fried fish and shrimp. Rode with him this morning to the interstate in Slidel La and saw him off to Florida to see that grandbaby. Just heard from him and the rain caught up with him close to the Fl. line. That's two visitors this winter, one from Jrichard on his way from Fl to TX, another great visit. Don't know what happened to Roadkill:confused24:.
  12. I notice that alot of the folks on this site have a icon of the USA State Map which appears to be fill in with color as you visit each state. Could you please point me in the right direction as to locate a fillable copy. Or just point me in the general area. Thanks

  14. I just thought I would post a friendly reminder to all of our friends in GA, AL, SC, NC, TN, KY, etc., that the Wheels Through Time M&E is coming up fast this Saturday! If you have never been to this great museum, it might very well be your last chance to visit, since they are closing at the end of this month and are strongly considering a move out of the Maggie Valley area, possibly to AZ. Details are in this Forum thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29193 I hope you can find a way to make it, as this will prove to be a rare treat... Terry
  15. since the st. charles meet and eat was so much fun and successful the last three years. i have decided to make it a regular 3 day meet. there is something which we have missed in the last meets that people will enjoy. thursday the first day of the meet we will visit some of the neat stuff in historic downtown st. charles and those wanting to hit the casinos can do that. all this stuff is about 5 minutes from the motels. friday we will do our hannibal ride with a different scenic route, and dinner at a great pizza house. saturday will be the scenic ride to herman, mo. to visit the wineries and back to my house for the barbeque. as usual wed. night at my house for pie and coffee for early arrivals. the dates are 7th, 8th, and 9th, of may, 2009. i will post motels and more details when i get it all together. this overides my earlier post. hope to see a bunch there. bill

  17. These people are so awesome...about 22 bikes and a couple cages showed up today to visit "Kitt-N". They brought her a great big BACA blanket.... and best thing was they had a side car today...so of course off she went for a ride ! ( and daddy didnt even ride along this time....) Last picture is of course some of them checkin out the venture.....( couldnt resist snappin that one:D)
  18. BACA made their adoption visit today.....what an awesome group of people....H was a little overwhelmed at first but warmed right up..they all were very exceptional with her....she met her 2 special friends who are available for her any time needed. They gave her a vest with her new biker name....and brought her some gifts also.....a new barbie doll, a jump rope, bubbles, crayons, a Harley teddy bear and a few other little diddys. KC has about 140 members and Id say we had a good 30 of them here today. They had H look at all their bikes and pick which one she wanted to take a ride on ( noone had a side car today) all i can say is.....nope she didnt end up on a harley ...but she wound up on a wing... Of course daddy went along on the ride they took her on.. i was really kind of kind surprised to see that while they were here they kind of like secured our property......there was always one of them at each end of our property out by the road...one of them even had his bike on the perps property !!! and of course the local pd came by...they had to see what was going on....:rotfl:a lot of neighbors were checking it all out too when all them noisey bikes came thundering in.... Here are the pics i snapped.
  19. Gary and I are headed to Southwest WI in the Wildcat Mt State Park area and Devils Lake Sate Park for a weekend alone!! Looking forward to it as we haven't had much "us" time. Anyone have any fun roads, pubs, places to visit? Probably going to hit Balltown, rode the Cassville Ferry last weekend (see Pix). Anyway, thought if anyone knew of any unusual places to visit, we'd check it out!
  20. The Dragon Cave is becoming a regular stopover for VR members. Ken Derret aka 1-Up is on his way to Indianapolis to his cousins house, who just so happens to be married to my cousin, (small world isnt it), and stopped here for a visit and an overnite stop. His new trike is awesome and Ken really loves it. We sat and talked for a while, but alas I had to retire and leave Charlene and him talking in the livingroom. Its great having members stop by and visit and the door is always open and if there is an empty bed, which there always is, any VR member is welcome to spend the nite or two. Wont see Ken before he leaves as I have to be to work at 0600, but it was great seeing him and being able to visit.

  23. Seen a feller on an 08 RSV today at 5 pm pulling out of a Shell gas station on Lone Oak Road in Paducah, KY. If you visit this site, give me a shout. Ventures are very rare in my neck of the woods. Glenn
  24. I've been hesitant to publicize it but Brenda and I leave tomorrow (June 5) for the ride of a lifetime. 1st Leg: Little Rock to Denver (preaching there Sunday) then Yellowstone. After two days in the park, on to Lewiston, ID & Spokane WA for church meetings. Then a few days in Olympia WA (preaching again and visiting with missionary friends) with a quick visit to Canada. 2nd Leg: Olympia WA to Rapid City SD to visit Mt Rushmore and preach for a friend. From there a hard fast ride to Sykesville MD (near DC) to spend a week with my daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandkids. 3rd Leg: From MD back to Little Rock via the Blueridge parkway with a 5 day stopover to visit aged parents in AL. In all, we will hit 22 states and be on the road for 7 weeks. Except for the ride from SD to MD, we plan on taking it relatively easy with a few days on the road and then a few days visiting with friends. The Piggybacker XL is loaded and we are exicted. Maybe we'll see some of you along the way. Lynn
  25. After first reading about the Rabbit Hash General Store in the forum here a couple of months ago it has been on my list of places to visit. Today was the day. We left the Lexington, KY area around 10:00 this morning and made our way through Frankfort and up US127 and arrived at Rabbit Hash around noon. A very biker friendly destination. We had a lunch of burgers and hot dogs grilled outside with several 4-legged beggars around. We spent an hour or so there overlooking the Ohio river. There are some very nice roads in the area for riding and if you are in KY, OH or IN it is worth the a couple of hour ride to visit. Attached are a few photos. Dennis
