    Be A Star?

A coworker/friend of mine wrote this song he sold two to the artist and there is talk of makeing a video for the second one. He told me they want a seen in it with a lot of bikes. I told him with a little notice we could make it happen. I will keep you posted on the chance to be video stars. Enjoy the video....GOOD SONG! http://video.aol.com/video-detail/james-cain-live-it-for-the-minute-country-video/997967510
  3. So.... I commute about 60 km a day from Dunnville to Hamilton through back country roads. They have an 80 kph speed limit and I generally cruise in at about 90 kph. Everyday there is the same group of speed freaks flying in at about Mach 2, I always think "Gees guys just set the alarm 5 minutes earlier!" A couple of weeks ago (Feb 6 or 7) its was a real crappy morning with snow, slush and slippery. I'm leading the convoy of about 6 of us, doing 65 kph because of the crap, when in the rearview I see two pickup trucks pulling into the passing lane. The first guy splashes passed me but as the second guy tries to pull back into the lane he spins out, and splashes into the slushy ditch. I was so pissed at these clowns that I not only thought "Looks freakin' good at you, goof!" but honked my horn as I went passed. I told the wife about it, and as we were driving by the spot a week or so later, I told her the spot is just ahead. We looked up to see a freshly painted white cross, with new flowers. A roadside shrine!! OMG- I'm going to Hell for sure!
  4. I told you that I was busy on Saturday building a base for a hot tub. Got it all installed and warmed up. Got all the chemicals adjusted right and tried it out tonight for the first time. I had one when we lived in Dallas but forgot how much I enjoyed it. Sitting out there with light snow flurries and 12 degrees with the spa temp steady at 101 F and a hot cup of coffee....a little bit of heaven in the frozen north. I feel more relaxed than I've been in months. OH...and ONE MORE THING. Come maintenance day here...there will be NO pond monster in the spa. Some of you will KNOW what I'm talking about.
  5. today i looked at a different bike.. 96 kawasaki vulcan 1500. they want $4,998 for it .. i told them i would give them $5000 out the door.. but they are holding hard .. i told them that the offer holds til 2/1/ 08.. here are some pics.. it has 10,000 miles...
  6. Christmas has been cancelled. It's all YOUR fault! You told Santa that you were GOOD this year. http://by108w.bay108.mail.live.com/mail/SafeRedirect.aspx?hm__tg=http://65.54.162.249/att/GetAttachment.aspx&hm__qs=file%3d519b07ab-df9e-4aa1-a810-9f3620af355c.gif%26ct%3daW1hZ2UvZ2lm%26name%3daW1hZ2UwMDIyMzIyLmdpZg_3d_3d%26inline%3d1%26rfc%3d0%26empty%3dFalse%26imgsrc%3dcid%253aD4074469-3BA2-4750-AED5-90C227B2F2C0&oneredir=1&ip=10.1.106.206&d=d1291&mf=0 AND HE DIED LAUGHING!
  7. Is anyone using Outlook 2003? I'm looking for this and the code. I was told that the calendar will syncronize with my phone.
  8. A FRIEND IS LOOKING AT THESE AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAVE TO JET WITH THEM AND HOW LOUD ARE THEY? I TOLD HIM IF ANYONE KNEW THEY WOULD BE ON THIS SITE.
  9. OK !, You've heard this before but, I was making a delivery in Metamora, MI today around lunch time and you guess it a venture pulled up sooo I had to go talk to the driver. The man is 82 years old and had got this beautiful 88 Venture from a friend who was unable to ride anymore, I ran outside for a quick look and it was sporting a new set of Avon Venoms. I had to ask why Avons and he told me he had them on his other bike at home and was really happy with them ( Kawasaki Nomad ) and he proceeded to tell me he rebuilt the front end new seals Progressive springs and synced the carbs ect. I told him about this site and who knows we just might see him on here. How Cool, Gary
  10. Well just got back from rescuing an HD as they were on vacation out of Tennessee and down here on vacation . I was coming up from behind approaching an HD riding 2 up . Noticed that they were noticing something strange until they pulled over . I pulled in behind them to notice that there rear tire going flat . Well I told the rider I would do 2 up with his wife and follow him to a garage where we could get the tire fied . Only a short mile down the road it was . The rider's wife asked as we were on our way if I had any experience riding and riding 2 up ? I understood her concern as she was placing herself life in jeoperdy with me driving . I told her that I just got this scoot yesterday , But I am learning and haven't tipped it over yet !:rotf: The look on her face was undescribable . Well we got down to the garage and my freind already had 2 cages on the rack and no tire and the flat one has a chunk of glass in it and non-repairable . So I fetched my truck and trailer and returned to load up the scoot and head down to the HD House . So this time the HD warranted a trailer ride . They were a nice couple and told them about our family . They are eager to look upon the site after they return home . Hopefully by now , their scoot's tire is replaced and the wind is to their back . Hope they have a safe trip home . I just thought I had to post , to share to you the look on her face when I made my experience reply . It was priceless ! BEER30
  11. It is about time that I have to think about replacing our headsets. I've been using AirRiders for several years now and though they are OK, they are no better than a basic or mid level J&M headset. So, I started looking and trying to decide what to replace them with. I have seen several people mention the Starcom headsets and was thinking about giving them a try. I have to say though, they may be a good headset but the company is not easy to deal with. They don't seem to know their products very well. The first thing I did was contact them to find out if they have dealers in the USA for their standalone headsets. They sent me a list of dealers and websites and the vast majority of the sites were invalide (page not found) or going to the sites that did work did NOT list the stand alone headsets. I let them know about that and then they told me that they DO sell direct from the UK but that they don't make a standalone headset for the Venture, only for the Goldwing. Now the last time I checked, the Goldwing and Venture use the same headsets and cables. That may have changed with the 1800 Wing, I'm not sure about that. I emailed them back and told them that they were probably turning away business by not knowing that the Venture would use the same headsets as the Goldwing. The response was that I should contact sales@starcom1.com to suggest the development of a new product. NEW PRODUCT??? They HAVE a product and don't know it. That is what I was trying to tell them. Bottom line, they just don't seem to know the application of their own products and I'm tired of going in circles with them. Will probably go back to J&M this time. OH...and one of the initial emails told me that they have worked with clubs to offer discounts. When I emailed back asking about the discount for clubs, I never got a reply.
  12. I've got a buddy here who wants to change from his cruiser to a touring bike. Right now he is looking at a gorgeous 2000 goldwing 1500 se and an '05 RSV (also mint). Both bikes have low mileage and are priced the same. He needs a nudge in one direction or the other so I told him I'd get on this board and ask those of you who have owned a 1500 to give your honest opinions in your comparison of these 2 bikes. It would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  13. I know we all have had bad dealer experiences. I just wanted to give props to my dealer for working with me to get a problem solved. My most local Yamaha dealer (Quincy, MA) isn't particularly well versed in the Venture and sometimes doesn't seem to like working on it, however, they do step up to the plate for me when it's necessary. I recently had a very spongy rear end (hey no comments!) and found oil leaking from the rear suspension. Having hung out here for quite a while I knew exactly what had happened and that it SHOULD be covered by warranty. I called the dealer, explained the situation and that it would be warranty work. Also asked if they had the part. They didn't and they said they'd have to look at it before they could even order it. The tone implied that they weren't thrilled about the prospect of doing work either. So I'm thinking to myself "OK here we go, it's going to be a pain in the ass and I'll have to fight my way through it." I brought the bike in and talked with the service manager who was skeptical that is was covered. I explained that I belong to a club of thousands of Venture riders and that this is a fairly common problem. Also told him that a few folks had needed to fight about it being covered but ultimately Yamaha had covered it. Got a call back from him and he explained that a history check showed the rear suspension had already been replaced once by the previous owner. Again I'm thinking "here we go". I told him "that''s nice, but it still failed and it's still covered" and also shared tales from other owners who had replaced more than three under warranty. We hung up. I called the next day to check in and I was told the part wasn't in stock and it'd be a while before they could get it. Again, I'm thinking "here we go". I checked in that Friday (only 3 days after I had dropped the bike off) to get an end of week update. They told me the part was in, They were trying to get it fixed that night but it may be Saturday before it was ready. Covered by warranty. What a nice surprise - no fighting and riding for the weekend! So far when there's been any question on things like this, I've been able to calmly state facts - many of which are learned here (Thanks Don & everyone who contributes) - which show my point. This dealer has been very good about taking that into consideration and doing what's right when I take this approach. Sometimes I think that dealers are so unfamiliar with lower profile bikes like the Ventures that they aren't aware of what's covered. Similar parts are not covered on other bikes or never fail within warranty periods so they don't see the situations often. Not being one to embrace conspiracy theories easily, I prefer to believe that it's more often unfamiliarity or apathy rather than spite that cause many dealers to question warranty coverages. Anyway, thought I'd share some positive dealer news since it's easy to overlook that when we hit a bad experience.
  14. I hate to do this but I want to let everyone know the experience I had at my local dealer. I took my scoot in for a service repair and new tires and ended up with a badly damaged bike and a dance with death to boot. This may be a long story but should be well worth the time to read, it could save your life or your bike. Took the bike in to have it checked for why it would not run off of the choke. After a full week and a day (working days) they got to checking my scoot. Turned out to be that I had put bad gas in the tank. The technician (a kid about 18 years old ) told me when I stopped in to check that they had fixed my bike. He reported that they drained the bowls of the carbs and found water. He started the bike up and began to race the motor, I told him that it was not right and he ask that I take it for a ride to be sure. I rode the bike down a back alley behind the store and brought it back and said that it is not right. I asked if when they found the water in the bowls if they drained the tank and changed the fuel filter. This kid looked at me with surprise and said no they did not. ????? I told him to do this and I would back on the next day to check it out. Before I left he told me that they had an accident and damaged my bike. He could not tell me how but the bike fell in the shop and damaged the front fairings, windsheild, saddlebag, and trunk. They noted on the work order that these items are to be replaced or repaired at no charge. This was O.K. at this time for me. I left specific instructions of the repairs I wanted made ( do not disassemble my carbs) and then I wanted a phone call before anything else was to be done to my bike. Two days went by and they called to let me know that they did these repairs and also removed, disassembled, and cleaned the carbs.. My new Avons were in and they would put these on 1st thing in the morning and I could get the bike on Friday. I went in, told the Parts Mgr. (who totals the service tickets) what my experience had been and we needed to discuss my bill. He listened to my description of events and made the bill where it was a fair invoice. I paid the bill and went to inspect my bike for more damage. I found a scratch on the tank and another on the saddlebag and reported this to the Parts Mgr.. I rode the bike away. This is where I had my dance with death. Coming off the interstate at about 65mph, I begin to slow down, touched the front brakes and the nose dove down nearly throwing me off the bike. I pulled into a gas station parking lot to inspect and found that the front brake disc was put on backwards. Thats right folks, the thing was backwards, metal to the rotor and friction disc to the caliper. I called the dealership and reported my problem and was asked to bring it back in. When I pulled up to the service department I told the Service Manager to inspect my front brakes and tell me what was wrong. He saw it immediatley and began to apologize. As he began to take my bike into the shop, he dropped the bike right in front of me for the second time. It hit the concrete and I hit the sky. This was not nice and I probably should be ashamed of the way the words flew but these people almost killed me on the highway and then dropped my bike for the second time in front of me. I then had the Operations Managers attention and they are trying to make this right. I have a list of 15 items that are damaged on my bike all because I trusted these morons to do their jobs. Oh and by the way I paid my bill and still have a torn up bike. Shame on me. I urge everyone to take the time to check the people who you trust to touch your motorcylce. I have used this dealer before and have not had any problems but this can not be overlooked. I do not know what the resolution will be at this time but I wanted to let everyone know and learn as I have from this experience. " We can EXPECT what we INSPECT from service centers. " I will not release the name of this dealer until this has been resolved and then I will let you all know the rest of the story.
  15. How many of us complain about cagers cutting us off, turning in front of us, not letting us in, etc? An older biker (gad, I like saying that) gave me some tips and I have been trying to practice them all of the time. Be polite: Make sure others see you so than can avoid you, he told me to wear a white helmet. You know it sticks out like a sore thumb, with a black jacket. Use hand signals: I use them in heavy traffic and get lots of room and more than a few friendly waves. One guy in a pick up truck followed me through traffic just to make sure no one rear ended me, just because I used hand signals (as well as flashers). I know because we both happened to stop for gas at the same time and he told me. Don't flip someone off if they screw up: Others will see it and maybe not so courtious to another biker somewhere down the road. I know that we all know this, just thought I would bring it up again. I do like using the hand signals, it's fun. Let me and otherrs know what tips you have, it can' hurt.
  16. Does anyone know what type of exhaust tempretures at the head the 1st Gens run or how much of of a differential between cylinders I should look for. I have one of those laser tempreture readers. My bike has an exhaust smell like possibly unburned fuel people have told me and sometimes I feel it might be running on 3 cylinders but seems to run pretty well.
  17. Riding through Arcade, NY with some friends today I saw a blue first gen parked outside a company whose name began with a "K". Told my self to try to remember the name, but it's just not coming to me. Who was it?
  18. Got a good one for you folks. As most know I am buying a US 05 midnight from a member here. Now, how do I go about transferring the warranty into my name? I know my dealer here will not do warranty work on my bike...he has already told me so and that I will be required to go back to the US for any work needed. Yamaha Canada has also told me the same thing. Then I asked how they take care of US travellers that have urgent repairs needed...well that was over a month ago and I am still waiting for a reply! Not a huge concern as I am not that far from the border. But I do know I need to transfer the thing into my name. Thanks as usual!
  19. I have just had my 05 RSMV into the shop where I had to insist on a new clutch basket because of the chirping. The dealer ordered and installed it, I had requested that he order ( i forget which one I was told about on here) not sure if he did or not, I was told that yamaha made four different ones for this problem. IT is louder than before, and when I returned to the dealer he told me that it was a one time fix from the factory and they would not do it again at there expense.Question...who has had it done and was the results satisfactory? What part number was used? After I get some more info IM going right to factory rep. I also had the exaust leak on the right Y and after much arguing with the service manager I asked for a second opinion from the factory and was told that the factory does not get involved in such matters. I knew It was Bull*%#$ he was feeding me so I told him I would contact the factory myself, all of a sudden my exaust pipe was ordered and installed.
  20. I am getting ready to get an RSV, when I do I am planning on changing the pipes to Bub's sleeper slip ons. When I did my Vstar V1100, I also changed out the air kit to a Baron's Big Air kit. Is that recommend for the RSV as well? Or is there a need to? I know that when I did my Vstar they told me that my performance would increase by 17%..which it did. But they also told me that I could lose some gase mileage. In fact my gas milage increased. We just came off of a long run and I was averaging 49 mpg. I guess my main question is wether or not you should change out the air kit as well.
