Anybody have an extra cam cap laying around they don't need? I'm assuming all the caps are the same? I'm still collecting the few parts that got broken when one of my engines fell off my trailer and onto the pavement. Another member was already most helpful with valve covers and a side cover. I think all I need now is one cam cap. I'll find out if there's anything I'm forgetting this spring when I get ambitious enough to dig the engine out of my shed. It's the engine that came in my bike. I thought it was bad when I heard some strange noises coming out of it. It turned out to be the exhaust collector.

this is going to sound like a stupid question (cause it is!) but uh... I can't seem to find the throttle return spring for an 87 mk2 on the parts fische.. anyone got a part number for it? thanks in advance, and, i'll keep looking! :edit: i'm looking at a much better fische now, and i see part 33 in the fische "housing support spring" is that what i'm looking for? (haven't taken the venture apart yet!)

If, on your lower cover on a '04 or later, your outboard screw standoff is cracked, your can substitute the spring nut from a '99 and the screw will have something to bite. While changing my antifreeze I noticed the standoff that holds the rubber nut was cracked. No way was it going to re-assemble. But the older 2 gens use a spring nut instead of the rubber nut. I figure as long as the engine guard braces have been installed, there shouldn't be a problem with the hard mount.

So I just got done doing this upgrade, haven't had a chance to take the bike out and test it, did start it in the garage and let the clutch work pulling me back and forth. As a worry wort, does anybody know what parts I should now have left over? Looks like I have 4 parts. A wire, the half friction plate, the old clutch spring and two other thin metal disks.

Split the cases on Big Dudes motor tonight to replace the damper cam. We pulled the driven axle and replaced the damper cam. At the time I ordered parts, I also ordered a new "holder" that the spring seats against on the opposite end. Checking the one that was in there against the new one, there is an 1/8" difference between the two. The existing one is wider between the bearing seat and the spring seat, therefore compressing the spring more than the new one. This part # (2we-17524-00-00) is the same for Ventures and VMaxxes from 83 to present. I wonder if the extra 1/8" compression on this already stiff spring would not allow the damper cam to do its job and rotate in the pinion under extreme duress as happened in his case when he hit second gear hard and split the damper cam? Part on the left was in the motor, one on the right is the new one. Any guesses?

Just had my bike on the lift. When I started letting it down I head a pop. When I removed the lift adapted and pulled the lift from under my bike I say a big spring on the ground. It is the spring that holds the kick stand. I have tried and tried to put the spring on but I can't get it to stretch enough. Anyone know how I can get this spring back on.

Need some pics of an installed passenger footrest on a 1st gen. Preferably in the raised position. They took mine apart for chroming and I don't think I got all the parts back. I believe there must be a spring or something in there to keep it from flopping around. If someone could help me out, my Navigator would appreciate it! Dan

I'm needing new clutches in my 87 standard...getting some slippage when I goose it a bit. I ordered a clutch kit and replacement spring from Buckeye Performance (nice people, fair prices). I spoke with Rick and asked him what I should do to get a little bit tougher clutch, and his suggestion was OEM clutches, and a new wave spring, suggesting that I double up the spring, new one on top of the old one to stiffen up the clutch. He warned that it'd make the lever stiffer, but didn't think it'd be a problem. He seemed to know what he was talkin' about, and I trust him, but I was just curious if anyone has tried this, and what the result was. I'm planning on setting it up to ride two up, sometimes with a trailer, and want a pretty solid clutch. Hopin' to get some input from someone who's been there, done that.

Just a warning for those getting back on the scoots after a long Winter...... Benefit & Charity Runs are already popping up everywhere here in the New England Region. Be extra careful if you decide to participate! A lot of folks PLUS new riders don't know how to do group rides with a lot of skill. This always means there will be accidents between bike riders at these Events. Every Spring we also see a fair share of mistakes made at the Patriot Guard Missions as well. Stay alert out there guys. Last Friday and Saturday, three buddies and I took our first two-day ride of the spring. The tour was about 700 miles round trip through the hills of Southern MO and Northern AR and was it terrific! The weather was perfect; cool in the early mornings, but 70ish midday. Was it nice to get out and just ride and visit with the guys. For those of you who haven't had the opportunity yet, I FEEL LIKE A NEW MAN. GET OUT THERE QUICK, YOU'LL FEEL BETTER TOO! I think that fix will last about 2 weeks...maybe...but it sure is nice summer is on the way!

Had battery covers and floorboards chromed. They turned out nice. Do have one BIG problem though. When I sent in the boards, I didn't realize where the pivot ball attaches that on the board itself there is a spring inside. On one board it stayed in, on the other it's gone. I have no idea where to find another or what the part number would be. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I'll show installed pics once I can get the springs. God Bless. Mike P.S. The pictures with the holes shows the space where the pin goes and the space where the spring is supposed to go.

Great weather this weekend. Did anybody get a ride? MamaMo has had to work 7 days a week now since some employee turnovers recently. We went to the grocery store after work and got back to the camp at 5:00 am Sunday morning.Kind of weird eating supper at 1:00 am but hey she was buying so what the heck country fried steak is not bad at any hour. The front yard was full of spring red breasted robins today. That is a good sign that spring is here. I'm still nursing a strained muscle in my neck right shoulder after unloading some heavy firewood a few weeks ago.I keep irritating the thing rolling over in my sleep. The march wind has dried up the front yard so It's time to brave that crossing soon.I'll probably buy a new battery for the 89 this week.

Saturday, I am putting my lovely wife and our 17 yo son on a plane to Phoenix. They are going to spend the week watching the Brewers and the Cubs in Spring Training. Wish I could go along, but some one has to stay here with the other 3 kids and the dogs - and to pay for the trip. I certainly don't think it will be needed, but is there someone out in the Phoenix area that would be willing to help if something goes wrong? Neither of them are 'professional' travelers, but they should be OK. I have programmed the airport, hotel, and all the ball parks onto the GPS they will be taking along. Again, I don't think they would need to call. But if something happens and we need some local info, will anyone volunteer to accept a phone call for help? Just trying to cover my bases (pun intended). RR

I have a quarter inch free play on the throttle on my 1999 RSV. I adjusted about 1/8 of it out of my carb. When I adjusted the rest out on my handle bars the throttle will not spring back like it should. If you adjust it back then it will spring back. I have even sprayed cable lube in it. Any advice? Thanks hairman

Does anyone have experience with communication devices that will work on an RSTD? I found this one with a Google search http://www.bikeintercom.com/products/motorcycle_intercom .html but I have never used one and I don't know if it's a quality product or not. I can't afford much right now, but Spring is getting near and it would be nice if my wholesome honey and I could talk while we ride. I am very ignorant about electronics, so keep this in mind when answering. Thanks, JT

My sister-in-law is moving to Spring City, TN. Her new husband is going to work at the nuke plant. I am told that it is about an hour from the Dragon. so I definitely will be visiting. Anything nice around there other than the Dragon? Lyle:7_6_3[1]:

MamaMo is already talking about planting roses and apple trees. I think spring is coming soon.I even thought about buying a new battery for the 89. Must be catching spring fever.Highs tomorrow close 60.
