Hey Folks, I am in need of an item for a 1st gen ASAP! I am working on Dave Pankows Bike and I dropped the front headlight assy and broke the front glass out of it So if anyone has a spare or know's of a unit for sale PLEASE let me know as I have to get this replaced for Dave. Bubba and Mamma will be pulling out of Roanoke VA on Sep 5th or 6th for a short ride to Los Angeles, CA to visit our daughter, a USC student. I will be piloting my 04 RSV w/ piggybacker XL, my wife is choosing to ride on her own VS700 Intruder. Been going crazy all my spare time for last three weeks. Fresh E3's on the Venture, fresh D404's on her much lighter Intruder, Fresh plugs, oil, carbtunes on both, new fork seals in the intruder. Packed tools and spare parts tonite, including bearings and seals for the piggy. We will be following mostly I-40 going out, seeing Cross Ministries, Cadillac Ranch, Grand canyon, Rt 66, and the Wigwam Motel. Coming back thru Vegas, Denver, Badlands, meeting up with an FJR rider in Mission SD on Sep 19 for the ride home. The only way we can afford this trip is camping. Suggestions on free/cheap camping??? We have picked up a National Parks annual pass. So, more to come if anybody interested. Guess I need to learn to post pics.

Sounds like a stupid question I know, but... I've got a spare key & rather than leave it hanging at home while away on 2000 mile trip, thought it might be better to put in on bike somewhere that I can get it if I lose my key while on trip. Just wondering if anyone else does that & if so where "could" it be hidden so it's not seen but can be retrieved easily enough with just a wrench if need be (like under the seat)? Not that anyone would tell everyone else exactly where they store theirs though! Just looking for ideas...thanks...JR

Can anyone help me with this problem.....my class for my 1983 VR is'nt working at all. Even when the key is in the correct position it just does'nt come on. Any ideas what the problem might be? Does anyone out there have a spare one they would like to trade for? I have quite a few parts so I might have something that you're looking for. Is there anyone close to Temple, Tx. who could help with the problem? As always.....any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've noticed a LOT of concern for the soft thrust split washer on 2nd gear (and rightly so). Rather than take a chance on wasting a motor, why couldn't we just skip 2nd (except when in a tight) since there's power to spare? I realize that it takes a lot of the fun out of riding, but replacing the motor isn't much fun either. Just a thought.......

I just wont say whose size 10 boot knocked it off but judging from the location you can guess who did it. Yes, the lovely Mrs Ruff knocked off the PTT button on the left trunk armrest. So, if anyone here has a spare button just taking up space on your work bench or jewelery box, I need one. Thanks....

About 2 years ago, I installed a used fuel pump I bought on E-Bay. It worked just fine, so I left it installed on the 89. Was at about 47K at the time. So: Today, after carrying the original around in the Bags as a spare, I decided to re-install the original pump. ( Just to make sure it was working ) Wa La !!! Fuse Blew !!! It don't work. Opened it up, Pressure Switch OK, Pump section OK ( the bottom part ) . But found Low Resistance thru the Main Coil. About 1.3 ohms. The good one reads about 2.5 ohms ???? Totally at a loss to explain this, as the darn thing was working just fine 2 years ago when I removed it, and wrapped it up in a bag to carry as a spare. ???

Can anyone tell me where I can get carb rebuild kits for my 83 xvz12tdk Venture? I called a dealer and he could'nt find it in any of his books and another talked of trying to put one together. I have a spare set I want to rebuild also so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I think my speedo finally gave up. I have lubed it with white grease lube inside and out and lubed the cable with graphite. Still whining really bad and now wont go above 20mph. NEone got a spare one to sell me? if it has about 73k, that would be great.

I just took the 86 for its maiden run for 08. I had ordered new diaphragms when Cliffno350 offered to group buy them.I installed them and since I was tearing into it anyway I lubed the throttle cables too. What a difference! It took my 86 from a cumbersome, wheel shimmying before stopping, boat handling bike to a smooth,peppy,quick handling fun to ride machine! No kidding, I used to have to take up most of 2 lanes in order to do a u-turn. Now it handles that job with room to spare. It seems to have taken the shimmy before stopping away. YAHOO! Either that or I just didn't feel it as bad what with the smile on my face. All this on last years gas. So far the best improvement on this Yamaha bar none.

The other day my bike started running like it's not running on all four. If I put the choke on all the way it starts to run better but still not like it should. I changed the fuel filter and swapped the fuel pump with a spare. No change. I also noticed the charging system is not quite up to snuff. It's putting out just under 13 volts at 2000rpm (checked at the battery) instead of the required 14-15 it should be putting out. I know that if these bikes don't have a good battery they don't want to run right. But I would think 12.8 volts would be sufficient. I would also think that if it was the charging system causing the problem that choking it would make no difference. Except for flooding it maybe. All that being what it is. I will put in a spare rectifier & or spare stator this weekend to hopefully solve the charging problem. I don't think that will solve the lean situation however, (only makes since). What else could cause the lean burn? It wasn't the filter or pump. If my assumptions are incorrect or if I'm missing something obvious, please point it out. What do these bikes act like when there are holes in the carb diaphragms? Thanks to everyone in advance. With these gas prices at $3.45, I NEED my bike.
