  1. Went up to Sault Ste Marie for my fathers 70th Birthday Party. Had a good time, but we left this morning in some nasty weather. The first 180 miles of the 475 mile run was not fun. We were travelling between 25 and 50 miles an hour. Windy, snow coverred roads with white out conditions. On top of the Mackinaw bridge they were escorting the trucks and trailors. The rode way was clear, but the wind WOW. You can see the car in front of us was white with snow which was the way most vehicles were and you could barley see there lights, when they hit there brakes. The last picture is my Father with Mr. Bon Soo (Mascot of the winter carnival), who made an appearance as my cousin is the Vice President of the orgnaization. Made it home safe and sound, after longer than normal run. My two Brothers, sister and family are still in the Sault as they closed down highway 17 on the Cdn side so they were not able leave. Brad
  2. Its so cold outside snow and lows tonight in the single digits with more snow coming. I've still got a few hours of late night work left slapping on some polyurethene on some leftover work ,now I am bored and tired but I remembered this and thought I would share it .......A while back when I was tired of working and eating sawdust I quit working and went for a ride. Thats what its all about , Right? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pp2_sLAXfE]YouTube - Old Hardin Road part 2[/ame]

  10. from the frozen wonderland of Hayward, WI. We are having a great time here. Lot's of good food, lots of snow, lots of COLD. It is truly beautiful though and we are really enjoying it. The company resort has lots to do. A nice lodge with pool table, foosball, air hockey, ping pong, etc. Lot's of snowmobiles free to us to use all we want and thousands of acres to ride. The drive up here wasn't too bad. Hit some fairly heavy snow showers about 50 miles before we got here but wasn't too bad. Ended up taking about 12 hours to get here. 755 miles and could have made it a bit quicker if the weather hadn't turned somewhat bad. We will be here all week and plan to head home next Saturday. Hope you all have a wonderful New Years and that everybody be smart and safe. I'm not getting online very often but am trying to check messages once per day. Don
  11. Dang I like the smell of snow. Around here we don't get much of a chance to experience it, but this morning with temps hovering down close to 30 degs and rainy I could smell snow in the air. It's sort of a clean crisp pure smell that hits the back of the nasal passages. It brought back a lot of memories of upstate New York where I first hit the deck. I hoped that we might actually have a few flakes hit the ground, but it wasn't to be. 500' higher up and I'd have been in the white stuff. It's still below 40 degs at 11AM. Who knows?? Maybe tonight???
  12. I did a search and this was posted 5 times last year and I think it's worth posting again. I don't know the author. A Christmas Poem: The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear. Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow. My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near. Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old, Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child. "What are you doing?" I asked without fear, "Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!" For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.. To the window that danced with a warm fire's light Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right, "I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night." "It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times. No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me. My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December," Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers." My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ', And now it is my turn and so, here I am. I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile. Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red, white, and blue.. an American flag. I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home. I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat. I can carry the weight of killing another, Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.. Who stand at the front against any and all, To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall." "So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright, Your family is waiting and I'll be all right." "But isn't there something I can do, at the least, Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you've done, For being away from your wife and your son." Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, "Just tell us you love us, and never forget. To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone. To stand your own watch, no matter how long. For when we come home, either standing or dead, To know you remember we fought and we bled. Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."
  13. Well dudes and dudettes The bike is strapped down, the Jeep is 50% loaded and I'm rarin' to go - To TEXAS for the winter...... No snow, no cold - muchos riding over Christmas -should be there in 2 weeks!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

  15. With three bikes and four cars at our house, my fall project has been to make a place to protect and secure the bikes, have them on the battery tenders and still have a place to keep Jan and my cars out of the snow. The boys get to scrape and clean off their cars. I must just have too much stuff!! This is what I've come up with:
  16. Put a set of these tire chains on your scoot and you won't need to quit riding just because of snow. You have a set yet, Charlie? http://www.mv-motorrad.de/cosmoshop/lshop,showdetail,13240,e,1105803788-30287,,10107,,,.htm
