  1. My left turn signal is stuck in the on position in the following condition Left Turn on and flashing Will not cancel automatically Will not cancel manually Will not change to right turn Turned off then turned on and still flashing Ideas thoughts or suggestions??? Thanks
  2. OK, guys.....tell me if there's one already for sale out there (I want two of them if there is)......or count me in on the royalties if YOU'RE the first person who invents it using MY idea: What is "IT".........a gizmo to attach to my Venture AND my wife's V-Star that CANCELS our signal lights the SECOND we turn the corner and bring our bikes to the upright position. Not 10 seconds after......not 5 seconds after.........not 2 seconds after.....IMMEDIATELY AFTER. Is there any reason you can think of why our signal lights STAY ON for up to half a block (or more!) after we've made the turn we just made?? After all, it's the signalling of our INTENTION to turn that's the important thing.......not putting on a big show AFTERWARD..... "HEY, did you see me turn back there!?! Look, my signal's still on, to prove I did it!" If you're like me (God help you, first of all....), you've probably noticed when group riding, or even just riding behind your buddy or your honey, that the person ahead often appears as though they may actually be about to make a second turn in the same direction as the one they just made. Even scarier, is the fact that the car coming out of the street or driveway on the opposite side from the signal light thinks the bike is turning too......and that it's SAFE TO PULL OUT!! Wrong.........SCREEEEEEECH........BANG!!! What ever possessed Japanese engineers (haven't checked on BMW's or Ducati's to see if German and Italian engineers are likewise afflicted) to put a so-called SELF CANCELLING device into our signal lights that sends MISLEADINGLY EXTENDED "signals" and could potentially CAUSE more accidents than it PREVENTS? Cars don't do it! They cancel the second the wheel straightens out. So, what's with bikes? Get with it, Japan!!! (Remember, all you up and coming MacGyvers out there.......this post is date-stamped....you saw it here first.......and I want my royalties in small, unmarked bills sent to my villa in Majorca, please!)
  3. Hi guys, one last attempt with a new load equalizer to slow my signal flash rate. In the rear of the bike I have normal LED cluster but in the front I have the Custom Dynamics Moon Shinez white signal lights which is most likely confusing the system from accepting the normal load equalizer practice of placement. I recently picked up the Custom Dynamics Street Magic Metric equalizer unit but after discussing it with another member, it would appear we have the same unit but there lies some confusion about the wires and seemingly different instructions for the same product. The instructions I have says to hook the RED wire (which has a fuse holder and battery connector lug) to the battery... The BLACK wire to a suitable ground and then the BROWN and the PURPLE each to the right and left rear signal wire. (They state the REAR signal wires and it's supposed to work to quell the speed on front and rear LED signal lights?) The other member has his connected to the signal flash relay located under the right side cover (the square looking black relay) and says his actually does work, slowing down the flash rate properly... but his instructions and unit have different colours. The relay connector plug has 5 wires to it laid out as such: BLACK YELLOW WHITE with white stripe BROWN BLANK BROWN with red stripe with white stripe In order to make this unit work, and attached to the wires on the connector, which wire does what on the connector? What's the best way to find the correct wires as per instructions? Either I've been working at this too long and now totally confused or I'm just too jittery to experiment and blow up the bike..! If you know for sure (no wild guesses, please), drop me a line and fill me in.. It's totally possible that the Shinez front signal lights are indeed impossible to make work with a load equalizer but I dunno.. These lights stay ON bright and when signalling, they simple switch off... then on, then off.. instead of the typical dim running lights blinking brighter.. perhaps these are impossible to slow down? Anyway.. late night, time for bed.. hopefully someone will have the solution.. Thanks in advance. Cheers
  4. If you have a light bar, are the turn signals the stock ones and just relocated to the lightbar? The lightbar was already on the bike when I bought it. Had an oops moment yesterday. I was taking off the old front amber lense (clutch side) to put on a new clear one. One screw was stubborn and didn't want to come out. The lense itself eventually broke and so did the screw. Unfortunately It broke pretty flush with the part that it screws into in the turn signal housing so only option was to drill out the screw. I will say that I am usually good at drilling out old bolts and such. Well this is one time I wasn't. I didn't have the correct angle so ended up drilling out completely part of the hole the screw goes into. So the option I see is replace the turn signal housing. I also want to get another amber lense in case I ever want to go back to stock or go to LED signals (thanks Freebird for the input on matching led color to lense for brightness). Are the front and rear signal housing interchangable? Any suggestions?
  5. just had a couple questions thought maybe someone can help me out.. is there any way to eliminate the kilometers on the speedo on my 05 venture.. not really an issue but just wondering.. secondly, quiet often the radio will loose signal and have an "rx" on the display.. kind of figured it was just loosing signal but this weekend we plugged in the ipod and it did the same thing.. thank you for the advice..
  6. I'm looking at putting a fairing on my rstd. If I do I'll need to figure out how to mount my lowers. Looking at the brackets diamondR sells, do they mount to the turn signal bar and would this work on the rstd if so do I need other parts to make it work?
  7. Has anyone replaced front turn signal sockets? My 06 RSV has the "unique" socket requiring 3 pins on the lamp base. I would like to convert to a standard 1157 socket. Would love some help on this one. Thanks.
  8. I was given some nice LED lights. One of the features is the ability to have them come on with a signal wire, even if off. I set them to the mode I want (e.g., flashing yellow), then turn them off. When I pull the brake lever, they come on flashing yellow, then turn off again when I release the brake. Or they should. They do come on with the brakes, but they also come on with the turn signals. The lights come with a red for power, off for ground. They also come with a blue for aux signal and yellow for ground. I have red to battery, black to ground. Blue to the yellow brake wire, yellow to ground. Should I attach the yellow to the brake ground? Is that brown, if I remember right? I don't mind the LEDs coming on with the turn signal for now, but it isn't what I intended. Dave
  9. OK Here's the problem. Did the Hoppy 5 to 4 conversion thing (LED Friendly), lights on trailer are incandescent. Everything is good to the plug. Hook up the trailer and only have running lights for about 20 seconds then fuse blows. Cannot get signals or brake lights, signal too weak. Tested on the cager everything works fine. My question is will a powered isolator boost signal to turn and brake lights or should I just switch to LED's:depressed:
  10. Hello I was wondering if anybody knew where I could buy a left turn signal cover? I don't want to buy the whole unit I just need the cover. Thanks
  11. Before I start tearing into the wiring of the front turn signals I thought I would ask. My right front turn signal is not working properly. When you signal a right the indicator light blinks on and off rapidly. I checked the bulb and it is good. Switched the left bulb for the right and same action. When you look at the turn signals when you first turn the bike on you see one filiments glowing in each turn signal. When you activate the left turn signal you will see two filiments glowing with one going off and on to create the flashing signal. This filiment is a smaller brighter and above the other filiment. When you activate the right turn signal the smaller top filiment does not light up but the lower filiment (running ) blinks weakly instead. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. This may have been discussed before, so sorry for the redundency if it has. But.... if I add LED replacements for the 1157 and 1156 bulbs on the trailer, will I have a problem with the turn signal breaker working properly?? Do they make a HD breaker like they use on tow vehicles when hauling a trailer....?? Otherwise they blink way to fast...
  13. I am looking to add some light to the back end of my bike as it is not very bright at night with stock lighting. I am wanting to change the signal lights to L.E.D. running lights with the signal being priority when needed and possibly the tail light itself. I already have a L.E.D brake/running light bar to add just under the trunk but want more and wondering where I can find these in a simple aftermarket application or if there isn't one then how. I have some time as it will be a couple of months before our winter is done.
  14. Hi guys.. wondering if someone could help me out with something here.. I can't seem to find my way around this.. basically two parts to this, please bear with me.. (keep your clothes on, I didn't say "bare") Last year my signal flasher broke down and I had to replace it with a new one.. the mechanical flasher was located under the right side cover under by the seat.. simple plug and play.. However, while waiting for that one to come in, I picked up an Electronic LED FLASHER that would work for both incandescent and LED signal lights and not require load equalizers etc as it's all part of the package thing.. Its not a plug and play but someone had sent me info on how to splice it into the bike's wiring etc. Before I had time to attempt it, someone found me a proper OEM flasher unit and I put this electronic one on the shelf.. (photo with info on box and flasher) Does anyone recognize or/and know where I can get info about it etc etc? Now, the second part is that I purchased and installed a pair of Genesis Flat LED Turn Signal White BAZ Eclipze2 (Custom Dynamics) and wow, are these things insanely frikken bright!!! Perfect with the HID headlight etc.. They are white LED that stay on all the time but turn off as you signal to flash on off on off.. but they stay on all the time.. making you very visible to blind cagers.. hopefully.. But being LED they flash fast.. oh well.. I can live with that.. man these are bright! NICE! Someone stated that if you put load equalizers in the circuit to slow the flash rate down, you then lose the self canceling ability of the system.. Not sure if that is true or not. Then thinking.. Hmmm what about that LED flasher unit?? Put that into the system and voila.. the flash rate slows down and ... self canceling we'll find out. BUT the fun is I cannot remember where I got that LED flasher from, or how it splices into the system properly.. Anyone? Bueller?
  15. Recent discussion in another thread has me confused as to what signal light bulbs I have on my Venture.. I had always thought these were 1156 and 1157 bulbs.. but someone suggested that 2006 and up RSV were different.. So I pulled one of the front signal light bulb from the bike and tried to figure out what it is.. and well, I'm a dummy. I don't know nuttin anymore. Looking at the base of this bulb, there are two solder points jutting out of the black base. Sticking out from the metal base are three PINS, equal distanced from one another. two of the pins are down low on the base while one is up a little more than 1/3 up the base. Is this a 1157 dual element bulb? Or is it one of them newer fangled ones? Thanks in advance.. Cheers
  16. Hi guys, anyone here using LED signal lights on the RSV? I've seen some on other bikes and didn't think they were brighter or near as bright as the OEM incandescent bulbs. If you have LED signal lights on your bike, and believe they are as bright if not brighter than the OEM lights, AND remember the URL to where to find these lights, could you please drop me a line? Thanks in advance. Cheers
  17. Months back, a lighting guy installed a Signal Dynamics module and LED's on my 2006 RSTD in my rear signal lights to make the Run/Turn/Brake. Really bright and works perfect. Last week he installed the same module & LED's in my 2009 Venture and gets different results. When you hit either turn signal, the other side lights up bright as a brake. When you turn off the turn signal, both lights stay on brake for 10 seconds then go back to run. Also, when you press the brake, and let go, the brake lights stay on for same 10 seconds then go back to run. Signal Dynamics says it's due to the 4 way flasher unit of the Venture and has no cure. The RSTD does not have 4 way flashers. The tail light (a 100 light LED) operates correctly. He is going to try a Badlands module to see if he gets different results. But if it's due to the hazzards, may hit same snag. Anyone else hit this snag. Basically when you trip the turn or brake, the brake lights stay on for 10 seconds after you release. This could fool a following bike into thinking you are riding brakes or just stupid. Probably the latter. Thanks, Mike G in SC

    Tail Light?

Is the tail light and signal light covers the same on all Royal star's
  19. On the 1st gen instrument cluster there is a reed switch mounted above the speedometer cable input. This reed switch senses the turning of the front wheel and outputs a signal to the cruise control & turn signal cancel circuit. Picture attached below. Does anyone know if this reed switch pulses 1 time per revolution of the speedometer cable or a different number? I don't have a spare cluster head to check for this, and don't want to dig into the one on the bike. I am working on a digital circuit to replace the flasher/hazard relays and the turn signal cancel circuit. I will use the count output by this reed switch to determine the distance the bike has traveled and use this input to cancel the turn signals at some distance traveled point. I know the front wheel circumference and the number of revolutions the cable makes per wheel rotation. With this info and knowing the number of times per cable revolution the reed switch pulses, I can calculate distance traveled. I am going to replace the bulb in the rear turn signal housing with 15 LED's arranged in a pattern that can produce five independent arrows circuits of 3 LED's each. Second picture below. These five arrow patterns will be sequenced to give the appearance of a moving banner in the direction of the turn. At this point I plan to light first the inboard arrow, then at about 1/5 second intervals light the next arrow until all five arrows are lit, then turn off the first arrow, then each of the other arrows at the same 1/5 second interval, until all are off. This will give a full sequence every 2 seconds. This sequencing will be repeated as long as the turn signal switch request is on, or the self timer cancels signals. Also, there will be a brake light circuit that will activate all the LED's steady in both turn signals when the brake is activated. If a left or right turn signal or hazards are activated, the brake light for the corresponding side in the turn signal housing, or both in case of hazards, will be deactivated allowing the side to flash. Center brake light will function as it does now. If I have room in the turn signal housing, I will also mount lower wattage LED's for tail light function. I have an analog (relay) circuit designed that will do the sequencing and brake functions using the existing outputs from the turn, hazard & brake switches. I will convert that design to a digital version which will be fairly compact and low power consumption. I am estimating about the size of a cigarette pack. This controller will also control front signals and dash indicators without the sequencing or brake light features. Gary
  20. The past couple of days my turn signals would sometimes work when the button was pushed left or right, other times it wouldn't work but if I toyed with the switch a few times they usually would work. Today riding home from work, they wouldn't work and nothing I did could get either one to flash. When I got home, I killed the engine with the kill switch and with the ignition switch still on. When the motor stopped running, I could hear a light buzzing noise somewhere near the front of the bike - at first I thought the fan might be running but it wasn't. It took me a minute to figure out that it's related to the turn signals. When I push down on the turn-signal switch or move it to center, the buzzing stops. When I push it left or right for one of the turn signals, the buzzing starts again but no turn signal. Slice the button the other way a little and the buzzing stops again. I guess it's more like a fast repeating click than a buzz. What could be causing the noise and the turn signal problem ?
  21. Ok here'e the poop. I just bought a Dart trailer. The trailer has 4 lights, 2 brake/running and 2 turn signal. It has a 5 pin connector. I picked up the mating connector, wired it into the harness of my 07 RSV. After each connection I checked to make sure what I was hooking up worked. After it is all said and done, I have running lights, turn signals and brake lights. Sweet........not!! We noticed that when the running lights were on and I turned on a turn signal, the running lights would dim ever so slightly with each blink of the turn signal. Ok, needs grounded better. As I checked the ground at the harness under the seat and trying it out again I see my radio goes out when I hit the brake or turn on the turn signal. So I unsoldered all of my connections at the bike wiring harnes and now the radio still goes out when I hit the brake or turn signals. I was trying to get this ready for a weekend get away, now I will be driving a cage instead of riding the bike. Any ideas on where I went wrong? How can I fix this? Electrical on a bike is not my strong suit, but I thought it was pretty straight forward. I need help!! Randy
  22. Yamaha since early June. Getting tired of waiting around. Anyone have one of these laying around. It's the chrome ring off an RSV right rear turn signal.
  23. can clearance lights "led" be wired to act as run/turn signal only ?? want to put some on side of trailer but only as run/turn, no brake. have 4 wire set up with 5 to 4 conversion on bike. any thoughts??
  24. My left turn signal stopped working, so I picked up a new bulb, replaced it and it glows all the time and also flashes as it should. But I noticed the right one doesn't glow all the time, only upon flashing. My question is - Which one is correct, should the bulb be lit all the time (when turned on, of course!) as the new one is or should it not be lit?? Second guessing? Thanks folks!
  25. just wondering if anyone has info. on how the bike should be wired for a 5 wire flat plug. Left signal, Right Signal and ground are easy enough. I want to concentrate on the brown and blue wire and what they should be connected to on the bike. Just going over the wiring to make sure it was done properly from the previous owner.
