  1. May be of interest to some. I had a bout with cancer haven't posted a lot, so far they got it all only time will tell. Seafoam Motor Treatment for Gas and Diesel Engines 5-Pack for $25 + pickup For in-store pickup only, Advance Auto Parts offers the Seafoam Motor Treatment for Gas and Diesel Engines 16 oz. Can for $6.99. Add five to your cart for $34.95 and apply coupon code "A123" to lower it to $24.95. That's $4.99 per can.
  2. 89 VR 27000m I notice myself tending to cruise in 4th, at 55mph, at 3500 rpm. Is that typical? I ask because the bike is new to me and I'm trying to figure out if it is performing as it should. I do 65 in 5th at about the same rpm. When I bought the bike it was missing on one cylinder according to my mechanic. I'm hoping I don't have to pull the carbs - it hadn't been ridden enough for about a year. I'm on my 3rd tank with Seafoam, and I seem to be on all four with an occasional miss though it is hard for me to tell. The pinging in higher gears is gone. Any diagnostic tribal lore appreciated. My brother laughed at me when I told him I was practicing different drum beat patterns so I could recognize the difference between a 4 cylinder that was hitting all four and one missing. Guess it is a bit weird. t
  3. It was running great for about 30 minutes. When I got a chance to hammer down and open her up I did. The power sure feels good. Then all of a sudden the VR was not as responsive and not as smooth. But it still ran ok up to speed. Got home and I started it up and felt the pressure at the exhaust. The right side seems to produce a little less pressure. It seem to start right up. Now before I started the ride I filled the tank and put about 5 oz of Seafoam for my plans are that when I got home I would fill the tank up again and put more Seafoam then it would pretty much sit for several months. Of course I would start it up to normal running temperture once a month. This is because I just purchased a 91 VR with less than 7000 miles on it. I was going to take all the accessories/goodies of my 89 VR and put them on the 91. So my troubleshooting plans are to do the following: 1) Pull each plug and see what the plugs tell. Put my backup set in, run the VR 2) The Seafoam may have loosen some carb gunk and so I was going to open the bowel drain screw. Then also unscrew the carb bowl drain plug. If anyone has some better trouble shooting suggestions, I'd be greatful.
  4. HI all. A buddy i ride with has an 07 V Star Classic 1100 and is having a problem. After about 90 - 100 miles of riding or when it gets to about a half tank of fuel the bike loses power like its starving for fuel. If he stops and fuels up the problem goes away that is until the fuel runs down to about half tank. So what do you think?? I had him try seafoam because seafoam cures all but with no luck. Thanks. Bill
  5. My 83 venture I just got on the 4th missed and did not run smooth. Two cans of seafoam got it running great. My wife dont always run smooth. I wonder? I am sold on sea foam. I will put a 1/4 of a can in every fill up. Have a good day:backinmyday:
  6. Been talkin to a mechanic friend of mine that owns a Stihl/Gravely/Snapper shop. Customer came in and had to buy a new caberator. His had sat over the winter and you could see where the inside of his carb had been etched by corrosion. The float had this greenish black crud all over it and the carb in general was unsalvageable. Although the carb was only $40, Ed said it could have been averted by following these easy rules: Don't let your gas sit in anything for more than two weeks un-treated (stabel for ethanol). When storing 1. Run machine completely out of fuel 3. Fill fuel line with Seafoam. You can buy a three pack of empty 6 oz. thin neck plastic bottles that you can fill, to squirt the seafoam in the fuel line. 4. Try to start (ensures seafoam has completely filled your fuel pump and carbs). I also had to buy a carb for my garden tiller two years ago as the same thing hapened to it. I intend on using this "no gas" method in the futrure. Just wanted to pass it along for your consideration.
  7. For any of you that have an Advance Auto Parts Store in your area they have Seafoam on sale this week. $6.99 which in my area is at least $3 off the regular price.
  8. I changed my oil and noticed a lot of sludge on the filler cap. This is an 02 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 4.7 V-8. That was about 2200 miles ago and I added 7.5 oz. of SeaFoam to the oil when I put it in. I also installed a new PCV valve. The truck has 126.5K miles now and I have never had a problem with it. Question: Can I continue to use the SeaFoam with each oil change or should I change from dino oil to synthetic? And would either of this make any difference? There is a forum that really blasts this engine for too small journals and cylinders dropping out plus engine seisures with low mileage, but I have never had any problems other than the sludge starting to build.
  9. Oh look another spark plug/carb thread. I have searched and could not find anything conclusive. So here is the scenario: Bike has been sitting for about two weeks while I waited for the rain to clear out and for Rick to do is magic on my seat. I put in some SeaFoam (about 6 oz) at last fill-up and prior to letting it sit because I wanted to clean the fuel system some more when I got the chance to ride again. Put the seat back on last night and decided to take it for a spin and top of the gas (took 1.8 gallons). When I started the bike no issues however as I rolled on the throttle there was hesitation and what sounded like misfires until I got the rpms above 4K. This got a little better as the engine warmed up but never went away entirely. Got back home and let it sit for the night. This morning, with a very pleasant day ahead, I decided to ride the bike to work. Again bike started fine but same symptoms as last night. So as I am leaving from a stop the engine stumbles and as I twist the throttle the hesitation is there but it will accelerate just not really that quickly. If I hold a constant throttle at anything below 4K rpm there seems to be a surge folowed by a miss. Now if I apply the choke the surge/miss goes away but throttle response gets very sluggish. My gut feeling tells me this is a carb issue but I think I also need new plugs as the ones in there were in a very rich condition for over a month worth of riding. Recently, Skydoc and I replaced the carb diaphragms, installed the needle valve shim mod and tuned the carbs with a carb sync and other sundry adjustments. I have run plenty of SeaFoam through the system so advice other than add SeaFoam please. When sitting ( not under load) bike revs fine. Any advice is welcome.
  10. AHHHHH! Finally got back on my scoot today after not riding since early Aug because of all the eye issues I have been having. Since the end of June Ive had 3 eye operations on my left eye because of retina tearing and scarring, but I think things have finally turned the corner today when I got the ok from the surgeon to go back to work 1/2 days next week and to finally take my scoot for a spin. It felt so good! The temp was about 80f and bright sunshine and a great day for a ride. The bike ran pretty ruff right off the bat but i poured some more seafoam in and went for a cruise out thru town and out on the hiway to shake out the stale fuel and finally after about 30 minutes things started to run better. it was great!!!! its the Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend and the weather forecast is looking great so I will get a chance to finally put some miles on! Brian .
  11. Ok, we have Seafoam, Berrymans, and 44K...but how about Startron? I have a freind who swears by this stuff...says it has increased the mileage on his ElectraGlide from about 36 to about 39 mpg...a bit more power, and he's only adding a small amount out of a syringe to the fuel tank. One ounce treats 6 gallons of gas. http://mystarbrite.com/startron//content/view/35/47/lang,en/ http://mystarbrite.com/startron//images/stories/product/family/family-gas-200.jpg Anyone tried it yet?
  12. for those of you who use it you know those who don't shame on you . had a 81 honda cb 650 given to me had not been started in 3 yrs and was buried this year under the 24 inchs of snow we had and then all the snow from the st pieled on top of it .after cking all the wiring and for spark ( everything worked) cleaned gas tank carb floates where frozen fuel running every where . I filled fuel line going to carbs with the magic elixer let it sit over night and the next day filled tank with fuel and tried it . Started first try no float sticking . bike runs fine. now just clen up left. Seafoam does it again. Bill
  13. Hi, First post. Background. ---My 84 venture is running rich. I replaced the carb diaphragms because they were shot, ultrasonically cleaned the carbs last fall. When you twist the throttle it goes like stink. Last fall it was sluggish at cruise (2000 RPM). I ran seafoam through it and put new plugs. It ran much better but the plugs are very sooty(ALL 4 PLUGS EQUALLY SOOTY) and the sluggish tendancy returned this spring. I plan to do seafoam and plugs again. Question- I have the idle mixture screws out 2.5 turns as per the manual. Do I screw them in or out to lean the carburation out? PS- 1984 Venture first gen with 30,000 miles on it. I rebuilt the exhaust collector box so the exhaust is tight. Thanks for any input. James
  14. Has anyone had an issue with to much SeaFoam fouling your plugs? I ran about 1/4 tank of fuel, and an entire can of SeaFoam to clean my carbs. Now my plugs are shot. I had to replace them just to get it to run. However, that being said one thing I noticed, is only the drivers rear cylinder was running. I could, and did, unplug all 3 other plug wires, and it ran. But if you unplug drivers rear plug wire, it won't run. After that replaced the plugs, with used, as did not have new. Will get new plugs today. It is running again. But, still seems to be a a bit rough. I know the carbs have never been synced, as the little brass plugs are still on the carbs. So, gotta figure this problem out now. Sheesh, what's next? So far, has new wires, new plugs-now a bit fouled, replaced the fuel pump and filter, replaced the selector valve on the tank, regluing all the plastic fairing pieces. Still needs the clutch bearing fixed. I am hoping this is not a money pit.
  15. I've got about 2000 mile on the bike now and went from 42 mpg to about 37 mpg. It will also stall at a red light after about a minute of sitting idle. It does this not as I'm slipping the clutch to pull out, but as I twist on the throttle to rev it up before pulling out. Will try some Seafoam as soon as I get back from dealers, but I really don't want them messing with my carbs... Remember reading somewere about syncing carbs and needing a tool? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  16. Is there seafoam available in Canada? Or if not what would be the equivalent? Thanks Brent.
  17. Riding with a couple of guys today and both of them mentioned that they thought I must be running rich since they could smell a strong fume of gas as we ran along. Thought some of you might have some insight on this. Carb sync at Vogel last year and Seafoam once this year. I also have made sure the airboxes are seated properly on the carbs. Would carb. float levels due it or just air mixture? All thought would be helpful as always. Thanks Brian
  18. dell

  19. I was at a local TSC (Tractor Supply Center) and they had gallons (128 oz) of Seafoam for $39.99. 16 oz cans were $7.99 which would extend out to $63.92 for a gallon. I know some of you like seafoam more than ice cream (you aint right) so I thought I would post it here. Gary
  20. I ran across this and thought y'all may like a little history and additional uses for SeaFoam. It's a pretty good writeup! SeaFoam Article
  21. Any views or comments on whether Seafoam would also work well in my Yamaha Venture snowmobile, which has 2 stroke 700 triple?
  22. Screamstone, Wanderer, Dave38x, Mechanic and myself went through and did the obvious maintenance, oil front and back, brake and clutch fluids replaced, checked brake pads front and back, carb sync then poured seafoam in. Ruffy, if Screamstone stops by, do a carb sync again. He will have a couple of tanks through by the time he gets there tomorrow and after the seafoam sets overnight at Savanah. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20Screamstone%2020090829/
  23. I just read with intense interest another thread about one member soliciting opinions from others about their analysis of a couple of his spark plugs. IMHO the two (?) plugs he pictured appeared quite normal to me. But during the course of that thread one member mentions (screen name slips my memory at the moment) injecting Seafoam directly into the vacuum tube on the intake. Then he states that after this treatment replacing the plugs is highly recommended. That leads me to my question. When treating suspected gunked up carbs after a scoot has set dormant for a long period of time, in other words using a high concentration of Seafoam, can this treatment be the cause of permanent sparkplug damage? I have read here that some may dump as much as a full can and even more into a full tank of gas. That seems like quite a lot to me. Others have even written they've applied 100% Seafoam into the carbs while running. I am just curious if an overuse or high concentration can be cause for damaging sparkplugs. I've used the stuff only once on my current VR because the carbs were in fact clogged somewhere and the Seafoam did absolutely nothing. I therefore removed the carb bank, dissassembled all four and had them vatted; reassembled and, whoalah; perfect. But I did not drain and replace the gas that had the high concentration of Seafoam. But I still get a slight miss, pop, cough (however we all may describe these things) at idle. I replaced all the wires and caps and the doggone thing still pops, misses, etc at idle. The carbs are a synced as close as I can get them with my Carbtune. I am now wondering if the application of Seafoam may have permanently fouled or damaged one of the plugs. Any thoughts? Oh yeah, no vacuum leaks anywhere; checked till I was blue in the face. Thanks Herb
  24. Just thought that I'd pass this on I went to Meijer's today in Taylor Michigan and they had several cans of Seafoam in stock for $7.99 so I bought 2 cans which came to $15.98 When I checked out I got a big surprise when they applied a discount of $4.00 bringing the total to $11.98. (before taxes) What a deal. db
  25. I did a bulk buy on Seafoam and DeepCreep. Got a customer who sells this stuff wholesale so I asked him for a couple of cases, so now I got me a case of each. Todays price is 10.00 all taxes in. This is only good for locals though, can't ship it, but if you're around the area you can stop in and pick some up. If I have to buy more the price might increase seeing the posts in another thread that the price has increased in th US. I try to get more next week and see what happens.
