  1. I know they are a little late but I figured better late than never. Here are some pics of my '08 RSTD I purchased back in June. Hope you guys like. Also I have included a pic of my family at the Foothills Parkway and a pic of the bike I had to let go to get my RSTD. I do miss my V Star from time to time though.
  2. Hello all. I hope I can make this question understandable. Here goes... The 2006 RSTD does not have a low fuel light. The final segment of the gase guage blinks and the Fuel trip meter comes on and begins to count up.. When I fill up it generally takes about 3.8-4 gallons when this led segment starts flashing, which would imply that I have 1.3-1.5 gallons of gas left in the tank (the RSTD is 5.3 gallon tank). All of the above is with the fuel petcock in the on position. Now here is the question... Could I keep riding until the engine ran out of gas and then turn the fuel petcock to Reserve and still have fuel left? Or is the Reserve setting just there and the guage is letting me know that I am pulling from the reserve? The manual is not very clear on this.I am going around 150-160 miles before the last segment begins to flash which would imply a cruising range of about 180-190 miles with about .5 gallons remaining if I can still switch to the Reserve setting on the tank. Sorry for the long post but not knowing is just nagging me.
  3. Hello, is anyone using a Wal-Mart Super Tech brand oil filter? Also how about Valvoline 20W50 motorcycle oil? This is the only local option I have for these kinds of products and I sure don't want to cause problems for my 2006 RSTD. Thanks for your help!
  4. I am looking to replace the bags on my 06 RSTD with some custom stretched ones, but I'm having a little trouble finding some. They all seem to be made to fit harleys. Also, I would like to find a fairing that I could detach like the windshield. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Fellow RSTD'ers. As some of you know I laid my 07 RSTD (only 3 months old) - down a while back It was a sad day indeed. Wife just had surgery last week to mend her broken finger and repair a nerve. Other than that only cuts and bruises. I traded my skinned-up RSTD on a Stratoline "S" model and have some parts that I no longer need and would like to sell. Need some "goodies" for the liner. I have a couple of these in the classifieds, but a lot of folks just don't look in there. Here is a brief list and prices OBO: Baron's 4-2-4's - perfect condition - $300.00 SOLD HD Fairing - SOLD to Mountianhorsega Pair of chrime wide muffler clamps - Will throw them in if you buy the mufflers. SOLD Full set of Mustang seats - wide touring and studded - about 3 weeks old - $500.00 Utopia backrest used about a week before going to the Mustangs - Will have to check my invoice for price... SOLD I am sure I have other stuff - but that is a start.... Thanks, Shep
  6. Does anyone have experience with communication devices that will work on an RSTD? I found this one with a Google search http://www.bikeintercom.com/products/motorcycle_intercom .html but I have never used one and I don't know if it's a quality product or not. I can't afford much right now, but Spring is getting near and it would be nice if my wholesome honey and I could talk while we ride. I am very ignorant about electronics, so keep this in mind when answering. Thanks, JT
  7. nice to be on with other royal star owners. I ride a 2005 rstd just saying hello:D
  8. Hello guys, great to be here, (first post). I ran a search ... but unconclusive. I use my uncle's 05 RSTD ... you know ... ... to keep motorcycle running for him. I used the cruise control, then after a few moments, pressed cancel. A few minutes later, I wanted to use the cruise control again, but, could not, ... the cancel button stayed pressed in. I was unable to get it to come back up. (Cruise control light goes "On" on dash). I do not have the Repair Manual (which I definitely want to get) to reference. H E L P ... any suggestions would be grately appreciated. Thanks, Rob
  9. Been surfen the post about tires. looks like Avon is the choice:think: After looking at the tread design on my new RSTD I am not a happy camper:mad: I had Dunlop's OEM on my VTX 1800R which ran good in rain, steel grates & high speed but @ 7K they were wearing:mad: My question is: Does Avon make the sizes that are OEM on the 2008 RSTD? Did not see any on there site:shock3: So what I need are a 150/80-169(71H) Radial front & a 150/90-15(74H) Radial rear:think: Or a brand with the Venom R type tread design:happy65: Ron:325:
  10. I was informed that OEM HD slipon muffler can be added to my 05 RSTD for a slightly richer growl. Is this in fact the case and can other HD mufflers be used like a HD SE I did a search and wonder if other HD OEM could be used and if aftermakets for the Road King like SE could be used. What year did HD start making cat converts. This mod would be a great alternate to RSTD OEM. Thanks in advance Nevada Maxey
  11. Has anyone bought the RepairPro RSTD Service Repair Manual? I see them on eBay (like this current one) and wonder how well done it is. I have that other eBay manual, the Yamaha Service Manual in PDF, and I don't like it. It lacks certain information I'd think would be covered (recommended oil grade and filter size?). I'm hoping this CD-based thing will be better. Is it?
  12. Need suggestions, advice, or here's how I did it's on where to mount an aux power socket (cigerette Lighter type plug) on an 07 RSTD. Want to wire up and mount something near the handle bars to charge cell phone, power gps etc. Prefer the economical route (have looked at the nice $100 handlebar mounts, but I want to do something that'll cost a bit less.) Any ideas, suggestions, pics???
  13. I am putting passing lamps on my RSTD. I put a relay under my seat following a post of Venture instructions. The instructions say that I should hook my relay switch wire to the blue with yellow stripe. In my headlight bucket on the large connector block there is a blue 14ga wire with yellow stripes going perpendicular to the wire. On the small connector block there is a blue 18ga wire with the yellow stripe running the length of the wire. Do you know which wire that I should use on a 2008 RSTD? Thanks
  14. Still having comfort problem with the RSTD OEM seat. Any suggestion on after market e.g. Mustang or Corbin Thanks in advance Nevada Max
  15. A friend of mine needs a windshield for his '05 RSTD. Does anyone have one for sale or know where he can get one? tew47
  16. Has anyone in the group tried mounting Dunlop's E3 size MT90HB16 on their Venture or RSTD? I originally was going to purchase a Dunlop for my ride but they were back ordered until Oct. from Ron Ayers ( I needed the tire in early Sept.) so I went with the Avon Venom. Anyways should I try the Dunlop on the RSTD or should I stay with the Avon Venom AM41? Dave:confused07:
  17. Hello to All, Got a question about RSTD brake system. Are the front & rear brake systems linked? I am new to the 2008 RSTD, can't find anything in the op manual about this:think: I have been on a Honda VTX 1800R for the last 2 1/2 years which has a linked system, sure was nice to get a little front brake when applying the rears:happy65: Thanks, Ron...
  18. I bought a complete lightbar kit off Ebay - advertised as being for the Tour Deluxe. Got it tonight and pulled out the instructions and the instructions are for a Venture. Is the passing light/lightbar kit the same for RSTD as Venture? And if so - are there separate instructions for the RSTD - that I can download somewhere? Thanks ahead of time Shep
  19. I am looking to replace the stock handlebars on my 2000 RSV to get more pullback. I have the 1 1/2 inch risers on, but it's not enough. I was just on the Flanders handlebar web site where they have the dimensions listed for stock handlebars. It looks like the stock RSTD might work perfectly. Anyone have a spare set lying around they might be willing to sell me? Thanks.
  20. I've read all of the threads and don't see anything about lowering the front of a 05 RSTD. (everthing has to do with the VR) Not the same set up. The air valve is very close to the handlebars and I don't see how I could slide the tubes up without handlebar risers. I know that barons sells a kit, but too much $ for me. Has anyone done this? If so, do you have any pics of the process? Steve
  21. HI has any one played with different air pressure in the forks and rear shocks on 05 RSTD, if so what pressure are you finding for a long comfortable ride and what weight were you carrying. I have tried different pressures more in the back which made the bike feel that it was riding on a razor blade (Dangerous) and more in the front (very floaty) after riding a while the back shocker seems to harden I think the air in the shocker heats up, is that your experience thanks PIPER
  22. Hello everyone - Shep here and I am new to the community and just bought a brand new 2007 RSTD from the dealer. I need a few things and thought I would start here. Moderators - if this is the wrong place - please direct me to the correct forum or fell free to just more this post. Here is what I need....... 1. Pipes - gotta have some rumble - will to trade brand new RSTD's for something with rumble OK - solved - bought the Baron 4-2-4's and so far - love 'em! 2. Luggage rack - momma needs more room... Bought one from Alan here on the forums :>) 3. Would like to lower an inch or so - so that I can get my gelpad on and still touch the ground. Had Rick Butler modify my seat (good job Rick!) 4. I need some longhorn offsets (have pegs) so I can cool my feet off Done! - Went with Kury's 5. Wife needs her floorboards a little lower and forward - I am open to suggestions (inventive and cheap is always good). Found a good mod - but will need to do this myself.. (check out this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28341) Got them done and working - now need to contour, sand and paint. 6. How about lightbars and lights? I am a former Boulevard C-50 owner and had them on my bike - would like them on my RSTD - where can I get them? Ordered a set of Yamaha light off Ebay. 7. Install Stebel Horn Got that done this week! 8. Bought and installed backrest (very nice addition). 9. Ordered and installed - Flanders 650-08783 pull backs. That should keep me busy for a while Last question: Does the community (forums) here have a place where new owners of RSTD's can get a list of "mods" - perhaps part #'s used in those mods and maybe even a respective "cost" analysis? On the Volusiariders forums we had a couple of very useful forums - one called "swap meet" - for trading parts and the other was "Custom Mods" - that owners had done to their bikes. We very helpful to me when I first signed on - because many had "gone before me". Thanks ahead of time for all your help - I look forward to getting to know you folks and to the fellowship! Shep
  23. I ordered the Flanders full-back handlebars and plan to put them on my 07 RSTD next week. If any of you have done this and have pics that would be greatly appreciated. NOTICE: it is for an RSTD not a Venture. I need to see how you RSTD guys took off the speedo and re-routed the cables. Also - if you bought new cable that won't help me much 'caue I am going to do this with the existing cables Thanks, Shep

    Saddle bad bra

Does any one know if BEER30 still makes the saddle bag bras for the RSTD
  25. I think I have read every post on the forums about the topic(s) - but they seem to be about one or the other and not all 3 at the same time. (See title) Tonight I started the project of replacing the stock bars, adding Kury ISO grips and keeping my stock bar-end weights on my 2007 RSTD. When I took the weights off, I found that the threaded insert in the stock RSTD bar seems to be silicon'ed in. I could see no weld or anything on the bar-end to indicate that it is held in place by anything other than black silicone. Before I proceed I thought I would ask here and see if anyone has come across this and how you removed them from the stock bars. I would like to re-use them if I can, but I can always just weld in a nut. Next question is - I bought the ISO "universal" fit grips and it says that it doesn't come with a throttle tube (to use the old one). I have the grip completely off the left side - and the rubber off the throttle side - but there is a chrome plastic part up at the top. Do I have to take the throttle assembly off to get the chrome "stepped" ring off? Thank for your help - remember I am talking about an 07 RSTD if that helps. I am taking pictures as I progress and I will post a step-by-step when I am done so that it might help others in the same boat. Thanks, Shep
