1. Does anyone have an idea of who's riding from the west..past Illinois to the Rally.I figured it would be nice to ride as a small group.
2. warm weather on the way i thought i might as well get ready to uncover the old girl. and do some cleaning. gas at $4 a gallon i think im going to ride it for a while. just to get maybe my last joy out out of it before she goes on the for sale list. someone left the key on ?? when i showed it a few weeks back:whistling: and i killed the battery. i took it to a shop to be charged and load tested. when she,s up and running and i hope i dont blow another rad hose. like last year. im going to see if i can get the rootbeer gang down here to help me get it out from behind it,s hidding place. like some folks here im not worried how the old gilr looks for now. just want a good run out of her. and if i get this small time job this summer. cutting lawns. i will be doing okay. i figure if i go for a long haul on it and something breaks on it i have towing. so i should not be afraid of trusting it any more. if she brakes down. im coverd. my knees still hurt but i think i can hadle the beast for a while. i see no reason not to ride it while it,s up for sale.. i think this is my year to enjoy it for a while or hate it if she brakes down. wish this oldgoat good luck.
3. I’ve been meaning to share something I learned with those who might be interested. I highly recommend that everyone read Proficient Motorcycling: The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well by David L. Hough. This is the riding bible and should be read and reread at least every other year. I know most of us have been ridding most of our lives and feel confident we could handle most anything that might come up and hope we never have to prove it. I know that is how I felt. I have to say that there is always more to learn and things to be reminded of regularly. I fully believe it is possible to ride a life time without incident but it takes vigilance in keeping your head in the ride. Reading material like this will help to keep your thoughts directed while riding. Riders have very little in common with cagers beyond the fact we share the same ribbon of pavement. Cagers and cage manufacturers are all about crash survival. Riders much like airline pilots are all about crash avoidance. This line of thinking brought me to another thing we have in common with the aeronautical industry, inhibiting corrosion. The aeronautical industry spends an extreme amount of time and money to protect the structural integrity of an aircraft especially as it is affected by corrosion. I found a company that specializes in corrosion protection specifically for the aeronautical industry. I have been using these products for years on all my motorcycles and I have no rust not even on the bolts of any of my bikes. I apply it once a year and it protects better than anything I’ve ever used. It can be used on most any material from Lexan and paint to chrome and bare metal. The product is RejeX. I buy it from Great Lakes Corrosion / CorrosionX. I recently went out to buy more RejeX and found they have expanded their line of products to include spray on types and other cleaning products they are advertising for use on motorcycles. I guess they heard those of us who have been using it on our bikes. I cannot speak to the effectiveness of all the new products they now manufacture but I can tell you the RejeX works for a fact. Just thought I’d share from my experience since you all have helped me so much sharing from yours.
4. Hi boys and girls! Been a while for me! I was involved in another car wreck in June 2011, shortly after we had the mini maintenance day. I was in a car, not the bike! Long story short... I have been unable to ride, and the bike has been sittin. I'm sort of at a crossroads with my bike. I either need to try to ride again, and overcome the mental block of something bad is going to happen, or just sell her and let someone else enjoy her. Anyhow, I replaced the battery, and she'll turn over and run, but only for a few seconds. I'm not very mechanical, but I think it may be fuel pump / filter related. I've searched the library, but cannot find a copy of the service manual, only the owner's manual. Can anyone take the time to walk me through where to start ? I appreciate all of your help !! AJ
5. eds

Step 1

Step 1: get out of Storage Step 2: RIDE IT. Bit cold but can't think of any other year I was riding any distance in March.5
6. Finally got to ride my new (to me) 2008 Venture today as the thermometer reached 56 degrees and the roads were free of ice and snow. a few questions.: 1. engine was not as smooth as my GL1500 (which was expected) but also not as smooth as my FJR with main complaint being a handlebar buzz at 80 mph. Is this typical? 2. I definitely need a tach. 3. how do I switch the radio from speakers to headphones? thx in advance for any help. mark in MN
7. 50s and sun shine had to go for a ride, I have been working on them all winter feels good when you get payed back by a nice ride. I think I will have to get a ride in today before it rains. Orlin
8. Ok, so while we are no strangers to wind in Oklahoma (although not the tumbleweed state some people think) we regularly get several days of constant 45-50 mph gust (like today), swirling, from sides, head on, tail wind, you name it. How do you take on these winds? slow down? lay down? Speed up? I know there are hundreds of thousands of miles logged by riders on this site. And while I know you all can't have the tainted "texas" winds from the Gulf we get here, what is your method? I have mine, but am eager to learn........ lets hear it! p.s. I dont care if you ride a "first Gen" and they cut the wind like a knife.....:whistling:: :stirthepot:
9. Hello Everyone: Swapped out my 404's for Elite 3's yesterday. Unusually nice weather for March in W. Nebraska. 75 degrees. Took a 30 mile ride during my lunch break. Felt good!!!!
10. We will be spending several days with friends in Bowerston, Ohio this spring. They don't ride so they don't know what kind of roads to look for from Bikers. Since I ride a Venture and not a Crotch Rocket, I am looking for midly curvy roads to 'cruise' on, NOT race. Also, any local sights or places of interest. While our friends are at work, we planned on cruising the local area, 'sight seeing'. When we were visiting them last year, we learned of a couple of customs that were different from ours here in Omaha, Ne. - They like vinager on their French Fires, and have something like 'Hot Bacon dressing' for their salads!! BOTH of these really surprised us and we LOVED them. So, while we are out sight seeing, I would like to find some local places to eat that are either differrent or just plain ole VERY good food. We are getting tired of eating at 'Applebees' or other chains everytime we go out of town. So, I thought some of you folks might have favorite places you could point us to. Any suggestions are appreciated, craigr
11. Took the Venture for it's maiden ride today and was impressed. After spending the last week working bugs out of it, all went well. I found myself searching for another gear but that's out of habit. I know the nature of this beast is it likes rpm's. Acceleration was impressive for a bike this size, especially when pushing to 7k before shifting. The ride was very comfortable. It was only 50 degrees and I had a side wind gusting to 30 mph so I couldn't be too judgmental. Still need to change the thermostat and do a little polishing. Think I'm going to de-link the brakes. Personal preference, please don't flame me. Couple of questions: Does the CB antenna also work for the radio too? I was able to play the radio in the garage but was cutting in and out on road. The antenna was missing when I purchased it. Are there any external parts on the carbs that would be affected by carb cleaner? Would like to clean them up a little before re installing the plastic. Thanks, Steve
12. Hope you have a great Birthday David go for a ride and enjoy Jeff :Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday::Happy Birthday:
13. Just wanted to share a pic of my new ride. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/tn.jpg
14. It decided to get cold down here south of the Mason Dixon so I decided to change out the stock shield for the new F4Customs Shield. I am documenting for a write up with Pics but I did have one initial comment. After that I hope to ride Tuesday with a few friends if the weather clears like it says. OMG it's Big! 15. Tomorrow is the wife's B-day. It made it up to the high 40's today so it was a good day to head north 100 miles into PA to buy her present. I rode it home. It sure is a lot more fun to ride than I thought it would be. Purely for research purposes, I took up to 100 on the highway just to make sure everything was ok. Never imagined scooters with that much get up and go, and it is a very comfortable ride. Anyone else have experience with Honda Silver Wings? So far I'm very impressed. Cheers, Dan http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/danzoom/Scoot1.jpghttp://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/danzoom/scoot2.jpg http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z351/danzoom/scoot3.jpg

17. Well the Shiny One has a new owner, a local guy found it on ebay and get this , he bought it at my buy it now price and gave it to one of his employees for a job well done present. What a nice guy . Kelly was in tears as the guy explained what a great employee this guy has been. I followed the guy back to his shop as he rode my bike so I could give him a ride back to his truck at my house. You should of seen this guys face when the boss threw him the key. The best part is it will be local so I can keep an eye out for it.
18. What a hoot! [ame= ] [/ame]
19. Happy 60th TOM. Hope you got to ride the GW for a ride today .:Happy Birthday:
20. I travel a lot for business and am trying to fit a day in before or after business for a ride where possible and theres no shortage of my business pals willing to take a customer out for a "business event"! I wish someone would visit me in Long Island so I could return the favor ! Anyway, picked up a Harley Ultra Glide the past Monday. This my 2nd time on a Harley. There's a lot I like about it, plenty I don't but I have to say Harley instils a mind set I don't get on my venture and I was digging it but not enough to switch. Rode out to Canyon Lake to a place called Tortilla Flats, an hour or so east of Phoenix. Anyone local over there knows what a beautiful crazy ride that one road to Tortilla Flats is. Did a lot of riding around Superstition Mountain and a few more lake areas. Fantastic region.....and the weather this time of year is perfect. Have another ride planned for the fall, going north of Phoenix this time, Sedona, Red Rocks, etc. I'm trying to learn my new Nikon DLSR, not succeeding but heres a few pics from the trip https://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/ArizonaRideFeb2012?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCMLEi4vCgv7yDQ&feat=directlink
21. Well, learned how to replace brakepads today. I would like to thank TuffTom for his help, and his patience. And I also gained a new appreciation for the first gens, nice bikes, will have to ride one one day, yeah you first genners are allright. Tom, thanks again for your help.
22. The wife and I are planning a 10 or 11 day ride from the Washington DC area to New Orleans and back the end of May and could use some advice\suggestions on routes and things to do while there. We've never been down that way before. All we have decided so far is to head from home to the north end of the Blue Ridge Pkwy, taking approximately 2 days to ride to the southern end. We will then either take a quick lap on the Dragon (been there done that, as a passenger the wife finds it boring) or the Cherohala. From here we haven't decided anything. Suggestions on an interesting route from the Dragon\Cherohala area on down to New Orleans would be most appreciated. Also, suggestions on things to see and do while there along with best places to stay would be great. Thanks very much in advance for your thoughts. Cheers, Dan
23. Im going to have the carb off my bike maybe tomorrow, so i was wondering if instead of rebuilding it and not being able to ride it for a few days, if i could buy a vmax carb. Would it be possible to give it more power this way? Or will it just flood out the engine?
24. Well my '08 Lowrider is sold. I pick up a new ride this week. Let the farklein' begin! http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/b7a117ce7d07a16e57c8_1.jpg
25. We are brand new to the RSV. We took one out for a test ride at a dealer's and I know it was more cushiony than ours is. Ours is a 2006 RSV. It has the stock seats, which are nice to us (compared to our cruiser Mustang seats, which weren't nearly as nice) but I find the ride a bit rough. On the one we took for a ride, he hit the bumps and I barely felt it in my back. Can someone please tell me how to adjust the air to make the ride softer for the passenger? We are getting the manual but don't have it yet and I have no idea how to read what it's set at, where it should be set, what's better, higher pressure or lower pressure, etc. I want as soft a ride as possible for my back's sake. Hubby and I aren't light so I want to be sure we don't hurt the bike, either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
