1. Looking for some help. I have an 05 RSTD with the quick disconnect windshield. I want to purchase the wide open plactics audio fairing and they say it uses the factory windshield mounts. After looking at the pictures on the web page they show an 05 RSTD with the fairing but the windshiled brackets are not the quick disconnect style. Does anyone know if the windshiled brackets for a 2001 RSTD will fit on the 2005 model? Any help would be great. The web page for the fairing is www.wideopencustom.com
2. This has probably been done before but since I haven't yet seen it mentioned, I thought I'd pass it on. I wanted to do a quick speedo check on my Triumph using my Garmin 255. While looking for a way to do a "quick and dirty" temporary attachment, it occurred to me to use the included suction cup bracket and attach it to the face of the tach. Worked like a charm and puts the GPS unit in a great line of sight position! Unless I'm racing (Wife says I'm too old for that anyway!) or looking for a problem at a specific RPM, I don't use the tach much since by now I can shift by ear (As can any of us who've been riding for a while). I tried it on the Venture and the only other thing it hides is the volt meter and that can be seen by rotating the unit on it's bracket. It's also a good idea to attach some type of line just in case it somehow vibrates loose, but for a short hop such as a speedo check, it works quite nicely. It might even work for a longer haul, although the lack of waterproofing could be a problem. Oh, I couldn't test the Venture as it's jacked up awaiting a fork seal change...boy that oil does come up nicely in an air fork doesn't it? As for the Triumph, it was about 5.5% optimistic - 85 KPH on the GPS at an indicated 90 KPH. Not too bad since I've heard that many bikes are as much as 10% optimistic.
3. Since it's been a while since this has been talked about...I thought I would start another discussion to see if any "advances" have been made in TENT TECHNOLOGY. Obviously quick set-up and compactness when traveling is most important. Anything new on the TENT front. Wally
4. How many are using a smaller bike for daily in town quick trips? I have been thinking it would be nice to have a little bike for in town running and quick trips close to home. Id love to have a small vespa typwe scooter as our town is really small and a helmet is not required. Just thinking outloud.
5. I need the chrome back fender rails from a RSTD....the ones that the quick release backrest snaps onto. If anyone knows of any please let me know. Thank you......
6. Hey does anyone run one of these? can you share your likes, your dislike etc. How do you determine what temperature to set it at? hwo quick is the reaction time on the road if you start losing air? thanks!
7. The other night I was sound asleep having this great dream. Suddenly the slam of a car door some where outside woke me. I quickly rolled over to my wife woke her up and said, Quick get out of here my wife just got home Hospital Visiting Hours are 10 AM to 8 PM
8. What is different in this pic and what do you think about it? (the pic editing is rather quick so kinda rough)
9. I was coming home from work this evening and was making a slow left turn when my rear wheel slid out from under me and down I went. Luckily I was going real slow at the time and wasn't hurt. My bike a 96 Royal Star Tour Classic didn't get hurt to badly either. The crash bars did their job pretty well. My right saddle bag got a little road rash and I busted up my right front blinker and passing lamp. I have an extra blinker set and passing light bar but I do not have a passing lamp for the right side. I have one that works on the left side with the toggle switch but after a quick look they don't seem to be interchangeable. Would anyone out there possibly have a right side passing lamp that they would be willing to part with? Please P.M.me if you do. Thanks.. The only other thing I noticed while doing a quick check of the damage was that I have oil dripping from what looks like some type of overflow hose located near the front of the bike just back of the radiator. Any ideas on that? I have a 14 hour day at work tomorrow so I guess any work on the bike will have to wait for the weekend..Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
10. So many kudos to the very knowledgeable folks here! Had my ignition short out today and between the how too's here in the library, long distance telephone help from Eck and Sleeperhawk, and FLB's quick site pictures and clarification, I got a switch installed to by pass and get the bike going! This site is so full of great members!!!!!!! Thanks all!
11. Hi Guys, New member here and I thought I would share a few shots of my Royal Star Tour Deluxe. I've already got some great info from you guys and put most of it to work (AIS disable, Jason's Mod and the "infamous whine issue") I just hope I'm able to contribute back to the site. And now for the pics............... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/OrangeSVT03/RoyalStar001.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/OrangeSVT03/RoyalStar002.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/OrangeSVT03/RoyalStar003.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/OrangeSVT03/RoyalStar004.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/OrangeSVT03/RoyalStar005.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/OrangeSVT03/RoyalStar006.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/OrangeSVT03/RoyalStar007.jpg and a quick bonus pic of my Vintage BMW..... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/OrangeSVT03/BMW001.jpg I also have a quick detach trunk for the RSTD but I dont like it and I didnt put it on for the pics. So you like or dislike??
12. It appears that I am starting to have issues with my 08 Veture Fuel Sensor. When I fill up, it shows I am down 3 Bars, No Bars when I still have about 60 miles worth of Gas and No warning light with no Bars. Is there a quick fix Luke an additive etc. or is it just gone duff and needs waranty replacement?
13. While out today, I encountered a fairly new 911 type convertible Porsche moving thru some traffic in front of me on the split four lane. He went around some slow traffic coming out of a red light and nailed it a bit. I followed him with him having a run on me for a couple of seconds and then we quit accelerating at about 65 in a 55mph speed limit. I ended up pairing off with him at the next light, about 3/4 a mile later, and was curious as to what he would do. As we sat waiting for the light to change, I did a quick 360º view so see what was around. When the light changed, we both nailed it. From zero to 70mph we stayed exactly side by side, even through my shift from 1st to 2nd. At 70mph, with me topping out in 2nd at 8,000 rpm's, we both decided that was as fast as we wanted to go and slowed back down to about 60mph. I looked over at him and he gave me a big smile and a thumbs up. I have done a few red light runs over the years and may make a run up to maybe a little over the speed limit, but I just don't do the runs much over the speed limit now, getting too old. I really wanted to tell him that he was just matched by a 26 year old bike with 123,000 miles on it, and the guy riding it was a Great Grand Father, but I didn't. That was the strongest stock looking street car I have paired off with in a long time. I did not look to see if it was a turbo, but it was quick. RandyA
14. Does anybody have the stock quick release windshield that would fit a 2006 tour deluxe? I bought mine used and it was missing. Thanks, Brian
15. I bought a quick release for my helmet. This is the one I bought: http://www.ironhorsehelmets.com/quickrelease.htm Okay, so how the %^#* does the black end attach to the loop with the two D hooks?
16. Went to pick up my repaired laptop , going down a two lane (country road), the red Expedition in front of me was making a right turn on what I assumed was a gravel drive. Hard to tell from my position and the lay of the land. The right shoulder went straight down 10-15 feet. I'm almost at a stop and looking in my mirror I see a car hauling ass coming up on me. Can't go right, it's a hole and that would hurt; can't go left, oncoming car, that would hurt even more. The Expedition is starting to turn but not nearly fast enough, By then I hear the wheels on the car lock up, a quick look in the mirror shows the car starting to slide, I decided to just look ahead. didn't want to see him hit me:confused24: Which didn't happen, thank goodness. got to practice my french though. Probably some redneck prikweed talking on the cellphone.......
17. So I finally find the right screws, take cover off, unplug the light. And it doesn't just pull off, there nothing to twist it with but the pronges, I don't wanna muscle it and it break, so if anyone can help me wth the right answer it would be awesome, I thought it was going to be a quick process. I'm sure it is mine is just stuck or something simple like that lol well thanks
18. I thought one of our members made chrome wind deflectors. Did a quick search in classifieds but I can't seem to find it. Can you help me? Thanks Deb
19. Went to surgeon today to get the staples taken out of my back. Have to ware the back brace for 11 more weeks then go back in for x-rays to see if everything Ok. Then start physical therapy if all is fused properly. No quick fix.
20. The wife tore me apart one last night, for walking through the house with my boots on again. So I decided to jump on the bike and go for a quick spin, to cool down... Boy, that pissed her off even more!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

quick release backrest

Good evening, I'm sure this question has been asked before but, does anyone know where I could get a quick release passenger backrest for my 05 RSTD. I have tried most places I could think of other than the dealer(saving that for last). If anyone knows or where or has one for sale please let me know. Thanks Reno
22. Finally got the tour-pack on thanks to the bracket from (member) naturbar. The 1998 TC is a little different from the late model TDs, in that there were no quick mount lugs and the rear holes are a little more than a inch different. Oh well, after I finally convinced the parts guy at the stealership that quick mount lugs were in the '05 TD parts book, not in the accessories book I got them ordered. Cut the stand-offs off the bracket and redrilled the holes. One twice, after my machinist son-in-law mis-measured:doh:. Anyway now it's on...

wrongway (allan)

Thanks again for the pants! if any of you were wondering, allan sent the pants i bought before i even got him a check, and the pants were in fantastic condition and came really quick!
25. I bought a nice thick luxurious sheep skin (fond memories.. but that's another story..) a while back and was pondering how to lay it on the bike, especially with the back rest sticking up out of the middle.. I could unbolt it, make a hole and bolt it back on but what about an emergency removal or taking it off at night when on the road etc etc.. HMMmm indeeeeed.. While I picking up bolts for my extension block for the highway lamps, I saw they had all kinds of quick disconnect hardware as well.. positive locking ones etc.. you could a drop pin, clevis, or quick pin.. but the bottom line is that its a simple solution, fits tight and quick to remove.. and permits the on / off of the sheepskin.. I'll get some pics of what I'm using once I have it all rigged up with the skin on it.. Black Sheep - Black Bike..
