  1. Im a quiet individual from Northern Ontario But when I go to Don's Maintenance Days Someone else comes out of me It was great meeting you again Beer30 and finally meeting your lovely wife 24/7
  2. I am sooo glad I got to go to MD this year, and put the faces to the names. I got to meet quite a few people, although it might take a few more meets to make all of the names stick. You know as you get older, it's harder to keep 'em all straight...lol Great meeting you all, and wish I could have said goodbye to more of you. We'll be seeing some of you again in about 3 weeks at the Int'l Rally. Very glad to be a part of this wonderful group!!
  3. Hey Friends, I'm back. Some of you know I've been on the road working since August 09. I havent been riding at all. I have came home for a day or two a few times but the Venture has been sitting in the garage mostly. My wife and I took a 100 mile ride yesterday and got home at 12:00 noon. We were sweaty and beat down. Its a pain to miss out on all the good riding in the fall and spring. Now I have to suffer the heat to ride. It was worth it though. I look forward to meeting more of the good people on this site and more riding. The last time we rode was at Vogel meeting. Happy trails.
  4. Received your payment, and waiting to meet so we can share that beer. Did your cord arrive yet? Looking forward to meeting some day.
  5. Here is one pic. For some reason all the pictures didn't make it to Photo Bucket. I'll try again later. We had a pretty good turn out. The girl we had take the pic zoomed back a little too far but we're still there. It was good finally meeting so many from this site. A good bunch indeed. (Hope I do the pic right) http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d70/LEOK9Trainer/DSC_0079.jpg
  6. I will be riding on Jan. 1, with several hundred people to Ezells Catfish House in CHATOM,Al. about 70 miles each way. Good Eating. Meeting at Wall Mart on hwy 158 at exit 13 at 8:30. tew47
  7. Last night I was at a meeting till 10:00pm. The meeting was held in a back room of a bar that is sometimes a "biker bar" Once I came out of the meeting and saw my poor old scoot, I was floored, it was vandalized. My nice burgundy venture was now covered with white stuff. I didn't even recognize it as mine at first. But since it was still 45 deg when I left the house, mine was the only bike there. All of the other wusses have already stored there bikes for the winter. Upon closer examination my poor old scoot was covered by about a 1/8 inch thick layer of................. ......................... frost. I had to bum an ice scraper to clear the windscreen to be able to drive home. It was Ma Nature that vandalized my ride. By the time I got home the temp had dropped to 31 degrees. I'm not sure what the wind chill is for 31 deg at 80-90 MPH. After the last couple of days I am convinced that Ma Nature is out to get me.
  8. Thom, Hope you guys made it back from the Sisters.. Sounded like you two had a Blast Sorry about not meeting up but you know the story..Anyway glad you liked my part of TEXAS!
  9. Newest member is [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/member.php?u=8354]VentureRider.Org[/ame] As are the rest of us!!! Welcome to the Family!!! Look forward to meeting up some day!!
  10. Waiting to fly up and pick up my new MM. Sleeperhawk is picking me up and I guess a small gaggle of ventureriders are going to the Harley dealer to see the baby get a proper home. I can't figure out if I'm more excited about the bike or meeting all these great, generous people! 4 hours and counting.
  11. For awhile now I have been thinking about suggesting another Asheville, but like an extended M&E. This is not to compete with Vogal as I would love to get together like we did last year, except in mid June, which would be about two months before Vogal. We could make it even less planned out, camping, eating on the run or do the breakfast bashes and maybe even an afternoon hotdog feasting. If anyone wanted to go to Biltmore or another specific destination, it could be arranged, but not worry about making it a formal day outting. For those of that did or did not make Asheville last year, it was an alternative to Vogal as Lew and Charlene were not going to be available and we still wanted a south east get together. I believe about everybody that showed up had a pretty good time. I would not mind making the same KOA campground the meeting point as it worked out great for us and I did feel they did appreciate us being there. But, if we wanted to do this we could consider other options and a different campground. Anyway, just trying to get thru some PMS with the temps being 25 degrees below normal and dreaming about next summer. What do you all think? RandyA
  12. I would be interesting in meeting some of you folks while the wife and I are at Star Days this year. Anyone interested in meeting up please let me know. Thanks...
  13. We got home about 6:45 pm after riding a total of 984 miles in 2 days. We had a fabulous time in the 2 weeks we were gone and got to see some relatives we had not seen for a while, but the real fun began in West Virginia. We rode some great rides led by Skid. On one of them we did not have to put our feet on the ground until an hour and a half after we left his house. That means no stop signs or other traffic signals, just curve after curve. Skid and Leslie were the perfect hosts and my wife really enjoyed meeting them and spending quality time with them. She also enjoyed meeting everyone else as she has listened to me talk about many of them for the past several years. She thought it was cool that many of the wifes participate on the site just as the men, even though she is too busy taking care of me to ge on it. I enjoyed meeting all of the people I did not know from the past even though most of them were from the north. We were the only deep southerners there. Skid we saw the white mountain goat on the way out and almost had a deer run into our bike at the first light after the New Gorge Bridge but he turned and ran paralel to the road just in time. Thanks to both you and Leslie for the good times and I wish you both all the best with the new baby. We Hope to see ya'll in the future. Love Lyle and Pam
  14. Just got back on site today after taking the week riding home with big tom, taters, don and luellen and having a great time-- went to gettysburg, to lancester area, up to the poconos and met up with jonas before he left, lastly along route 6 and finally to buffalo ny area....... Want to say it was nice meeting so many people at dons and putting a face to the names/handles...already looking forward to next year.......might be nice if all members have a picture of themselves as/on their avitars-getting old and tough to keep everyone straight and a face would help....... Now i have to say that meeting all of you and seeing your rides and talking mods, you are all going to cost me money as i see what i want to do to my ride (07 midnight)...and it might never stop-oh well........ Lastly i know that you will all agree that thanks to don and his family is in order as he really opens his home to a bunch of strangers and all the time he puts into the event and site must be enormous--it was a pleasure meeting and talking to you don and you will continue in my prayers-god bless ..... to all members---RIDE SAFE AND BEST WISHES craig (spankym)
  15. i put an album of the pics i took today in my userCP...i hope i got everyone once and if not i am sorry...hope you enjoy.....lots of fun meeting new friends/hope to see all again this year...also hope to attend a meet/eat on the borders other side this year ... spankym (craig) :happy65:
  16. I was in a meeting and had rode my bike to the location. Being security conscience I tried to use the handlebar lock on my ignition switch. When I came out of the meeting, i noticed that all the lights were on, on my bike and when i tried to start it the battery was dead. Now anytime I lock the handle bars, all of the lights come on. Any ideas? This is for a 87 Venture Royale.
  17. First off thanks to randy and laura for meeting us for supper in bristol on Good Friday. We had a nice evening with friends.Ramona and I meet with a log home mfg and viewed our dream retirement home.We were very impressed with the quality and hand hewn work.I called one of my banks up and was surprised that they financed new construction building with land. Now the hard part. I have thought all week while on vacation about all the reasons I should not do this (recession, job security, and being 50 years old with a mortgage starting). On the other hand (interest rates are low,we want to move, and besides our property is a good investment and a new home will grow in value).I don't know of any more prime real estate being mfg.People are building on the hillsides now and where ever they can find land.I thought about saving enough money to put a shell up under roof then finishing it little by little with cash but that would take about 10 years. I would have less time to enjoy it and my 10 year old son wouldn't get a chance to grow up there and enjoy fishing, swimming, the ball field, and all the other things lake front property has to offer.I have a meeting with several contractors to put together a turn key job and we will look at those numbers.I'm sure we will be shocked at the bottom line but 20 years from now those same numbers will be like small change.I may have to sell a few assets like a first gen or two.
  18. Got to meet my 1st VR member today. I rode over to B2Dads' house. He only lives about 20 miles from me, and it turned out we have met before...I used to work on their cars years ago. We admired each others' bikes. I got to meet the wife and the dog, and we just shot the bull for a few hours. Really nice people they are. I look forward to meeting many more of you!
  19. I decided to take my bike from Houston to San Antonio for a public meeting in the evening. It was 8:30 when the meeting ended, so I enjoyed a peaceful night ride home. Little traffic on I-10, only two cars that I passed. Bunch of trucks, mostly in platoons. More often, there was no one in front or behind me. My RSTD purred like a kitten, loving the cool night air. It was an easy, easy ride. The only bad thing was getting home near midnight, 411 miles on the OD. I had to sleep fast because the alarm still went off at 5:30. And yet, today my seldom-riding friends expressed near shock that I would be stupid/brave enough to ride at night. I've heard it a few times before, and I am left scratching my head. What is their reasoning? All they can say is it is dangerous, and they hate riding at night. Heck, I added passing lamps and LED tail lights so I could ride at night. I am probably more noticeable at night than during the day. I have good night vision... maybe they don't. What do you think? Do you like the super slabs at night?

  21. Just drove from Pennsylvania to Conway, South Carolina to help my daughter. She was involved in an accident on 501, near Coastal Carolina University where she attends school. Met with her as she was leaving the hospital with a broken hand, bruising, and light air bag burns. She is very lucky! The car on the other hand is totaled. I will be meeting with the insurance adjuster sometime Monday, hopefully early in the morning. Any forum members in S.C. know a good ,honest, dealer for a used car in the nearby area? Regards Dave
  22. I am getting a few guys together for a ride tomorrow Oct 11, meeting at "Stop Fifty" truck stop which is on the south side of the QEW at Fifty road in Winona..(just past Stoney Creek).. We are meeting there for breakfast at 9 am, then heading out for a good ride. Anybody is welcome to come along.. I will check this thread tonight in case of any questions..or if any changes happen.. Brian.
  23. Nancy, is was great meeting you at Skids last weekend, Meeting you was the highlight of my trip, Seeing those pictures of Mark through the years made me feel like I had know him for years, thank you so much for going out of your way to come and see all of us.......... You and Mark did a fine job of raising Kenny, and just by talking to Kenny for the short time I can see that Mark was more that just a father but a friend and mentor to him...........I hope to get to your area in the near future and learn more about Mark, and who knows maybe Kenny can go for a ride with us.......... Thanks again and Gob Bless.
  24. We were in town and got a call from ADC he was there too. So we just had to all go to DQ, while he checked out the SS bike. Margaret
  25. I got a new project bike in my driveway to start on. It really isn't mine It belongs to some old friends that I haven't seen in years. These are great people, Matt and Charlotte Flory, of Lilburn, Georgia. Please welcome them and look forward to meeting them soon as new members. We had lost touch several years ago due to moving, changing watering holes, and busy lives, ect..... A mutual friend mentioned to me that they had a Venture that they might consider selling, so I got in touch with them. They told me that they really didn't want to part with the bike because they loved it so much, but wanted to get it back on the road. It had been sitting under cover for several years with a few problems and they didn't know how to go about getting started with repairing it considering it's age and not knowing anyone who could or wanted to work on it for them. As we were talking I told them about my experience with my 87 XVZ1300 and how finding this site and all of you that have helped me have made it possible for me to be able to keep my bike alive in my heart, mind, soul and under my butt as a daily driver. One thing led to another so we came to an agreement that helps both of us out, me helping him get his bike on the road and him helping me get some punch items repaired for a upcoming House closing this month. I can't wait to get started on it and am trying to shoot for the July Georgia M & E for a target date of having him with me at that event riding his rejuvenated VR and meeting some of you. I've told him how great ya'll have been to me and I think he's really looking forward to getting involved with Ventureriders.org.
