  1. Hey All I was looking at the Diamond R Saddle bag light bar for my 06 RSTD.. Has anyone installed these lights and if so, whats your take on them ? THanks
  2. My 83 standard had a radio mounted in it when I got it using a plastic cover from Cycle Sound. Over the years it got in bad shape. I made a cover similar to the one shown and the radio went straight down. I then made a stiffer one and made it so the radio mounted at a 30 degree angle. This made the CD work better and made it also easier to get the CD's out and even change them on the run. I have taken some pictures to help anyone contemplating doing this. It is a bit of work and I did use some good thick aluminum sheet. When I was finished making what I wanted, I painted it with black "wrinkle" paint. This give it a surface texture and covers some of the blemishes. As you can see, I also installed some switches. These go to my fog/running lights, the rear light bars, the radar detector and two sets of strobe lights in the headlight bucket. RandyA
  3. This is about the worst electrics problem I've ever seen. No lights, signals, gas guage, speedo..........NOTHING on my 2003 Midnight Venture. Any ideas where to start looking? The manual (the cheapy little user one, not the shop jobby) refers to three fuse boxes: the "main" one, number 1.....and number 2. Are there really 3? Should I be checking fuses......or go straight to looking for burned/disconnected wires? The previous owners DID do a fair bit of fooling around: passing lights...LED's...alarm.....etc. Any thoughts GREATLY appreciated! Mike

i bought a harbor freight trailer to pull behind the bike i wired the thing like it said but im having problems. when i turn on the key the running lights come on and everything looks fine but when i hit the break the right light goes out and the left light gets bright when i turn on the right or left blinker both tail lights blink this is really pissing me off its only 4 damn wires how could it be this hard? please help as i really need it Ace
  5. Hi Guys! I just got my new cooler rack from Al's Motorcycle Accesories (Wow he does nice work!) Now, with the cooler sitting in the rack it (of course) blocks my turn signal lights. So, I would like to hook-up a couple of LED turn-signals to the back of the rack. My Diamond-R LED brakelight which is mounted under the trunk, takes care my brakelight issues, so now I just need some LED, turn signal lights which look complementary to everything else back there. Hopefully, I can find ones which can be mounted flush against the mesh along the backside of my cooler rack. Power for the cooler rack lights will come from my trailer hitch power plug. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions. I don't want to spend too much on them, but I do want them to look like they were meant to be there. I will attach a couple of pics so that you can get a better idea of what I'm working with. Thanks in advance & Be Safe! Pete.
  6. I just installed the Harley lights on the back of my RSV. What a difference in the quality of lighting now in the back. My question is, I would like to add chrome visors on the new HD tail lights to match the stock tail lights visors I have now. Does anyone know where I could get visors for the HD lights? Or there HD part numbers? Thanks Guys.
  7. Finally getting around to the pictures of Mocha's new rear! I used a heat gun and carefully softened the hot glue and pulled the lenses off. Then I ground down all the protruding plastic and filled in all hols and painted. That left a flat surface to mount the LED strips. There are 60 for the running lights, 24 for the brakes, and 9 in each turn signal. Ponch followed me in bright sunlight and reported that the red section washes out but the turn signals show up good. As soon as I get out of the noonday sun it is different. I used self adhesive surface mount LED strips then overglued with clear RTV. I figured the Texas heat might loosen the adhesive eventually. Then I used the clear RTV to put the lenses back on. I think the effect is pretty good. Also, I found out that I had lights behind the lower Yamaha reflector!! Garbage scotch-locks that needed replacing. And the side reflectors have a bulb in the forward edge!! I don't think the sides are stock because of the scotch-locks. The lower might be stock. It took me about 8-10 hours of work and $100.00 worth of LEDs to do this project. The result is priceless if someone notices the bike and I don't get slammed from behind. JB
  8. My cruise went out, It is not the fuse I checked. Has anyone else had this trouble. I get no lights and it will not set. Thanks bikerjohn
  9. Well, I finally finished my driving lights. I used the brackets from here, the Optronics lights from Wal-Mart and stuff from the electrical box. I replaced the light hardware with stainless steel 1/4" allen bolts. The cross bolt is 1 1/4" and the vertical bolt is 3/4". I used S/S washers and acorn nuts. The hardware was about $8.00. The 1/4" bolts actually thread into the metric holes. It is tight but they run in with a wrench. Gives them a safety retainer feature. I retained the light bezel with a #4 S/S screw and some blue locktite on the screw. The switch operates the ground side of the relay. The 12VDC side of the relay coil is supplied by the accessory fuse. The main power comes from the battery via a 15amp fuse. This shuts the lights off when the bike is turned off, preventing accidental battery drain. The relay is mounted on the bolt that retains the noise filter. As set, each light is drawing 4.3 amps. The system seems to be doing ok. Voltage is remaining above 13.5 at idle. Runs up to about 13.8 at 2K. Without lights on I am showing about 14.1 at idle and 14.6 at 2K. The MR16 bulbs are 55 watt and appear to be a narrow flood pattern. I may change to a narrow spot later. Initial impression is good. A lot of light and the roadside is illuminated well. Total cost for the job including lights is about $45.00. This is figuring in a mil-spec waterproof switch with rubber toggle boot. Pictures attached showing screw, hardware, and finished product. JB
  10. I'm picking up an 04 RSV and I want to put passing lights up front. I also want the "Harley tail light mod" in back that I have seen posted here here. ex..http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3768 Can anyone reccomend a dealer or mechanic in the area Aurora Illinois who can do that? I know any dealer can do the factory lights, but some guys might not want to do the Harley Lights. Also, can anyone reccomend some specific brand / model of REALLY bright bulbs to use? I really want to see and be seen at night. Thanks
  11. :confused24:turn signle works ,headlight works 84vr
  12. Read the thread stating any available brown wire is a switched power wire. I've added the amp and some lights to the fender bolts. Got the tank off and power run to the lovely relays. Now I just need switched power. Tap the headlight wire? Or something convenient? The Yamma instructions for adding lights don't give me a warm fuzzy.
  13. Is there a good thread on here to help understand/diagnose the leveling system on the first gen. I get nothing from mine, no lights, no noise, nothing. I suppose the place to start is, is it getting power? Thanks D
  14. My passing lights and my Sebler horn are both out! With the passing lights I hear the soleniod click when I push the switch, but they do not come on! Any ideas on what could be the issue. I checked all fuses and they all look great. The passing lights are power off the front receptical and the horn is power from the circuit going to the rear receptical (if I had one). Any ideas or thought would be great. Thanks BikerJohn
  15. Hoping to verify a diagnosis. Recent acquisition of an 83, required a wiring harness replacement. Bike came alive and after a few gremlins is running. For some reason, the running lights are out. Bulbs are good, and finagling a probe into the connector on the CMS shows 12 volts on the blue wire from the fuse block, but only 0.8 volts or so out on the blue/white wire for the running lights. Current thinking: bad solder joint in CMS, or bad CMS. Any other thoughts? Three of the four carb covers have silicone dabbed on the middle of them. Taking one off it looks like something ground through the cover, leaving a hole that the silicone is now sealing. Can anyone think of a good reason to do this, or how that could happen without a major crash? Kinda baffling. Thanks all! Paul
  16. I bought some driving lights (oem) and was wondering has anyone put these on?? No instructions! No wiring diagram! I am sure I could figure it out but I have no plans of reinventing the wheel. Anyone with some sugestions or ideas? Hypno Sam www.hypnosam.com
  17. If anybody knows, could you tell me what is the color code of the hot wire that goes to the rear tail light. My bike is a 2006 Yamaha RSTD. I am going to wire some side lights I have installed into it under the seat. I have found the plug that goes to the tail light, brake light, and signal lights but not sure which is the one for the tail light. Any help would greatly be appreciated. thanks, Jerry
  18. I'm posting this for another member West Texas Winds. He posted in the Metzler update thread and I thought I'd move it to a better location so it will give it more exposure. Here's what he posted: Somebody please help me I have checked all the switches I have teail lights but know brake lights Have i missed something All help is greatly aprensioned Thanks West Texas Winds I sent him a PM but I didn't know he had an 87 and I gave advice for the 2nd gens. Can anyone help him out?
  19. I just finished putting my 89 Venture back together after replacing plug wires, battery cables, fixing E4 error in class, refreshed desicant, and replaced back brakes and pistons seals; oh and back behind headlight to see how to replace bulb. I have had a lot of the bike apart, and every connector that I could reach I took apart, cleaned and put some dielectric grease in. However, upon starting up, I thought I noticed a little lag till the headlight/dash lights came on. After running the bike for about 10 min they suddenly went out. I have signal lights, clock etc but no headlight (low or high), no headlight indicator, and no dash lights. So my question is, what/where is the likely culprit connector? I must not have put one back together securely? How about behind the headlight? Oh well, project for tomorrow I guess.
  20. I heard of an electrical device / switch / fuse / what ever... that will plug in to the rear turn signals and will also make them in to running / break lights. Has anyone heard or know what this is?
  21. I am looking around on EBay and trying to stay in the good graces of my wife by not buying bike parts this one looks like a good deal if you need one. For those of you looking to add that second break light be it on the top or as I prefer under the trunk this might not be a bad idea: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-HIGH-LEVEL-LED-3RD-BRAKE-LIGHT-LED-BRAKE-LIGHT_W0QQitemZ250226900848QQihZ015QQcategoryZ33713QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It's listed as a buy it now for 9.99 and 9.95 shipping it's 14" x 1.5" x 1.5 comes with double sided tape to mount it on on back glass, but 2 holes are also available for those who want to screw it on if needed on a trim . Take a look it might be what your looking for. It looks like a SOMA type of brake light and for the price it's not a bad deal. I'm doing a search in the parts section using this as a search "3rd brake light led -cover -decal -overlay" without the quotes. There are some other interesting light setups that can also be adapted as a second light. One of the ones I'm thinking of is use one from a pickup truck that has the cargo lights on each side of the brake light and use them as a flashing lights when stopped but I have to check the laws before I buy one. Another thing you can do is make your own custom mount by picking up a piece of angle aluminum (1 1/2 inch) and mount the light into it cut the ends and bend them to fit in between the helmet hangers bolt it in then wire it up. I did that with one I bought and gave it that brushed look by sanding it then painted it a semigloss black.
  22. I had it and lost it. Somebody posted about some lights they were looking to buy and mount down on the front fender like the PIAA driving lights. Only they were much cheaper. Somehow I've deleted it. Anyone remember the posting? I like the idea of the triangle effect and being away from my signals.
  23. 07 venture purchased new in oct.....want to add running /brake/turn to the rear....i see on this sight kits from cruisercustomizing....one from tri-star........so ..which is the better of the two as to hook-up, performance.....and, can you get red lenses for the signal lights or do you have to get red bulbs......
  24. Hey guys, thanks for having me on the board. I have a 2006 RSTD that I am installing saddle bag trim rails on. I was wondering if anybody could direct me to a site or place that sells the side marker lights that fit these rails. Sort of like Harley offers on there dresser bikes. Thanks, Jerry
  25. What is the reason that I can't use a 55w (H3) in my driving lights? I did wire the driving lights using a relay and fuse. It is on an 05 RSTD, nothing but lights. BTW, I've read all of the threads regarding this, seems like they mostly concern a venture. Steve
