  1. Hi Guys! I just got my new cooler rack from Al's Motorcycle Accesories (Wow he does nice work!) Now, with the cooler sitting in the rack it (of course) blocks my turn signal lights. So, I would like to hook-up a couple of LED turn-signals to the back of the rack. My Diamond-R LED brakelight which is mounted under the trunk, takes care my brakelight issues, so now I just need some LED, turn signal lights which look complementary to everything else back there. Hopefully, I can find ones which can be mounted flush against the mesh along the backside of my cooler rack. Power for the cooler rack lights will come from my trailer hitch power plug. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions. I don't want to spend too much on them, but I do want them to look like they were meant to be there. I will attach a couple of pics so that you can get a better idea of what I'm working with. Thanks in advance & Be Safe! Pete.
  2. Finally getting around to the pictures of Mocha's new rear! I used a heat gun and carefully softened the hot glue and pulled the lenses off. Then I ground down all the protruding plastic and filled in all hols and painted. That left a flat surface to mount the LED strips. There are 60 for the running lights, 24 for the brakes, and 9 in each turn signal. Ponch followed me in bright sunlight and reported that the red section washes out but the turn signals show up good. As soon as I get out of the noonday sun it is different. I used self adhesive surface mount LED strips then overglued with clear RTV. I figured the Texas heat might loosen the adhesive eventually. Then I used the clear RTV to put the lenses back on. I think the effect is pretty good. Also, I found out that I had lights behind the lower Yamaha reflector!! Garbage scotch-locks that needed replacing. And the side reflectors have a bulb in the forward edge!! I don't think the sides are stock because of the scotch-locks. The lower might be stock. It took me about 8-10 hours of work and $100.00 worth of LEDs to do this project. The result is priceless if someone notices the bike and I don't get slammed from behind. JB
  3. I want to install Custom Dynamics LED turn signal clusters front and rear but have a problem with the flasher options. The options available both have down sides I want to avoid; load equalizers get very hot and limit the use of 4 way flashers or replacing the flasher unit with their version eliminates the self cancelling feature of the bike's turn signals. Anyone know of another option?
  4. Snuck up on me this year, but as many of you may know, March 8 - 16, is Canadian-American Days here in the Myrtle Beach area. If any of you are down for the event or coming for part of it, Welcome!! As always--lots of stuff going on. Killer car show, shag dance competition and if you absolutely have to there's always....golf. Later in the year (~June 2), Hard Rock Theme Park has the Grand Opening with the Eagles. (soft-limited opening in April) http://www.hardrockpark.com/index3.php is the site if you want to poke around. I have nothing whatsoever to do with the place or anything, but it should be sonething special. And NO, I will not ride Led Zeppelin..15 stories, 65 mph...6 loops...No sir, I don't think so....even if it is set to "Whole Lotta Love"! Spring Bike Week May 9-18 I gotta leave now, I'm starting to sound like a darn commercial.
  5. Not long ago, I saw a website/post on an LED light strip that mounts in the gap between the trunk lid and the passenger back rest. I've been looking online for the past two days without any success. Can anyone help? Has anyone come across that? Can someone post a link or point me in the right direction? Thanks.
  6. Do any of you guys have any experience with different LED drop-in bulb replacements for 1157's? I've read that many of them are less bright than the old incandescents. Any opinions on good ones out there for an 87 VR? Thanks, Jeremy
  7. It seems like some of the discussions we see endlessly discussed, and if we don't have a particular interest in the topic, we might just lightly scan it but not really give it any serious attention. Then later on, we develop an interest in that topic and return to the previous threads to search out the details - and then we can't find just what we need even though we know that we saw it somewhere. That's what I'm up against. If the answer is there, would someone just point me to it please? I would like to install a nice looking LED Light Bar on my '07 Midnight Venture. However, I don't want to spend $300 on Yamaha's trunk spoiler light bar. I know of one person who found a nice looking bar which he mounted right between his helmet locks, but I can't remember the manufacturer. I like the Signal Dynamics,15'' LED Ultra Light Bar, but it looks like it would need to be attached to some sort of a fabricated bracket if I wished to put it between my helmet locks. I'm not sure that it would look good to just stick it on the trunk with the adhesive tape. If I mount a light bar back there, I want to make sure that it looks like it belongs there, and not look like something which I didn't take the time to think through properly. I would also like to see a few close-up pictures of different mounting alternatives and what they look like, but not just when they are lit-up. I already know what bright LED lights look like when they are lit up. I want to see how good the light bar looks as an accessory and if it looks like it's supposed to be there. So, I'm open to suggestions. But, please be aware that I'm no fabricator. As a matter of fact, I'm probably just barely smart enough to know that it's important to make this task look good, but not able to accomplish it without some help. Each new project becomes a learning experience. Thanks guys & Be Safe! Pete.
  8. I can not wait for winter to be over any longer. I need to get this thing out on the road to see if my long hours in the garage have paid off or not. Went out and bought a pair of heated gloves, and a heated vest from tour master Synergy. What is the best way to tell if my charging system and computer will hold up to these items?, besides watching the voltmeter, which i seem to recall some not holding much stock in? I have read the entire set of instructions that came with the clothing and can't seem to find anything on how much draw these things have . Perhaps if someopne on here has these items and a first gen you could let me know how it worked out for you. By the way i have the stock stator on my bike; all lights have been switched to led ,only add-ons consist of low voltage passing lamps and 2 -10 inch led light bars.
  9. Found a good price on LED add on lights. http://www.jbr17llc.com/clearance-marker-ligts.html Ride safe Rod
  10. I hope this post isn't being beat to death but here goes anyway. Just installed a 15 inch LED light bar on the rear of my 88 VR and it works and looks great. I am intent on improving rear visibility both during the day and at night short of wearing a yellow reflective vest. I am just curious as to how much amp draw one can expect the taillight circuit to handle without ruining the computer. I was looking for replacements for the two 1157 dual filament bulbs that might draw a little less amp, but have not been able to locate a suitable substitute. I suppose there isn't such a bulb. Each 1157 bulb draws 2.1 amps, I think anyway, and maybe 2.7 amps (don't know for sure) when the brake light is activated. Double that for two bulbs and that is perhaps as much as 5.4 amps. No wonder the voltmeter drops so radically when the brake light is on. Has anyone modified their scoots like I have and would they have any advice on how to reduce the rear brake light circuit draw just a tad? I did purchase two led bulbs and installed them. Even with two led bulbs and the 15 inch led light bar, the computer warning light was on.

  12. Everybody knows Venture's Chargin system is just not enough for all Accessories and heated clothing, so every Watt count. Thats one of reasons I Didn't install Passing Lamps on my Venture. Well here is Cure. Found This very usefull site with direct replacement LED lights for most daylight passing lamps. They make all kind of LED Bulbs with H3, H4 , H7 and H11 base. They have very resonable prices too. Well Check Out By Yourself. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR Good Luck.
  13. I thought this was interesting. At $15.00 each, not a bad way to go. http://www.webbikeworld.com/lights/motorcycle-led-brake-lights/
  14. I want to replace my Turn/Tail/brake lights with LED lights and keep the Red/Amber covers. I ran across these and was wondering if any of you use them. 1157-x12 LED bulb 12-LED 12VDC replacement bulb 15mm Dual Intensity Bayonet Base Available with 12 Narrow or Wide Angle LEDs in White Also if the 1157-x12 LED bulb is what I need or the 1157-x24 LED bulb. Do I get the Narrow or Wide Angle?? I know I also need the 1156-x12 LED bulb or 24. Thanks for the insight and I am sure I'm not alone in wondering about this so it will help us all.................................................Ron P.S. Probably should of put this in the 2nd Gen Tech section. Move it please
  15. Would like to know if anybody has changed out their 1157 bulbs over to led 1157 ? Reason I'm asking is I changed out my two brake light bulbs over to Led which put out a lot more light and less draw on battery but in turn it sets off the light indicator on the dash stating I have a bad bulb. So has any body came across a Led bulb that does not set off the indicator light? I already changed my trailer over to led so now I would like to do the same for the bike. buddy
  16. I had been looking at several LED lights to replace the stock reflector between the license plate and tail light. Most of what I found was in the area of $25 and $40. I thought that was a bit much. Well, yesterday, I was at Bass Pro Shops and found what I was looking for in the area of the boat trailer supply area. It is an LED clearance/marker light about 1/2 inch shorter than the reflector. I had to elongate the holes in the reflector mounting bracket to get it installed but it took about 10 minutes total to do the whole thing. I wired it into the brake light so it only comes on when the brake is activated. The best part was it only cost $9.99!!
  17. I am about to buy a Back-off brake light modulator and discovered that Signal Dynamics makes a large number of lighting controllers. http://www.signaldynamics.com/lighting_control.htm I found a few things to note: There are two version of the Back-off modulator. Only the XP version is made to work with Incandescent Lighting, LED Lighting or a combo of both! (MikealiasMike - this may be why your LED trailer lighting wasn't working so well when we installed the non-XP back-Off module on your bike.) The have a module to help with fast flashing LED lights. For those that want to get real fancy they have Wig-Wag module and a self-canceling turn signal module for those that do not have this feature.I was surprised to see just how many options they offer for improving motorcycle lighting.
  18. I just installed a Radiantz LED tail light and with the bike running the light is not steady, it flickers just enough to make it annoying. I tried revving the motor some and it still flickers. Any one have any thoughts about that? Thanks, Buford
  19. Kuryakyn LED Trunk Handle ,think it will fit the RSV ? http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/4034/
  20. 1999 RSV. I just installed the single light BackOff License Plate Frame with single LED. Real easy install. Lights up the rear a little better, but still needs improvement. The wiring is as follows: Bike ----- Plate Yellow----Red This is the Brake Light Blue------White This is the Running Light Black-----Black This is the Ground
  21. :confused24:I found some LED light strips which I want to mount on the rear of the wheel chair I have mounted on the back of the bike for my wife. Although all present lights are visible, I wanted to add these "just to help". I will simply put a plug under the truck to attach the lights into whenever we take the wheelchair along. Here is my question. I have a diagram of how to install the wiring so the strips work as running lights and brake lights, just as the Pilot LED strip under the trunk works. In the wiring diagram it calls for 2 #4003 diodes. I have been to every place I can think of and cannot find #4003's. I have #4002's and #4004's. Not knowing enough about the diodes, would either of these diodes work in place of the #4003??? If one would work, I can get at it, otherwise I am going to have to order 4003's and of course I want to get them installed BEFORE the weekend!!! Any of you folks who could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
  22. Has anybody in here ever replaced their bulbs with LED bulbs? The tail lights are simple to find replacement bulbs but the turn signal bulbs would have to be made at a right angle to point to the front or rear of the bike. I have seen the blade type for the instrument panel and marker lights. The marker light again would have to be made with a right angle. Any suggestions? I know the VR's are lacking in the power output department and figure I could save some wattage for my trailer and other accessories if I can swap in LED bulbs. In the mean time I'm talking to a guy who says he can rebuild the rectifier and upgrade the stator for more output. Just have to find a couple used specimens to take him so he can get started.
  23. For the 1st Genners who have either the illuminated trunk reflector or the illuminated trunk guard.......... if you are looking to replace the incandescent lamps with LED lamps, Superbright has the 5 LED (194) wedge base lamps. They are selling for $2.99 each. I just replaced the incandescent lamps in my trunk guard with the 5 LED Red lamps and I am now getting twice the amount of light. Will be replacing the lamps in the righted trunk bar next. The LED lamps can be ordered at www.superbrightleds.com Well worth the nominal investment IMHO.
  24. Some of my riding buddies were complaining that they couldn't see my turn signals during daytime riding. They said they were just to dim. So, I dug out some dual-intensity LED lights that I had bought for another project (they are really bright...some of the best I found at any price), made some brackets to mount them on my saddlebag rails, and have them wired as running and turn signal lights. I'm happy about how they turned out. Now everyone behind me can actually see what I'm doing. give me a few minutes and I'll have the pix uploaded to my gallery.
  25. I put the light bar on the trunk of my 87 VR - got it from big bike barn, I think. The bulbs in it are a paltry 3 watt, and it just does not show up well in day light., I have it all apart now and want to install led lights, perhaps with a dual element circuit to have the combo of running/stop lights. I want the stop lights to be BRIGHT. Any idea of where I can get them? Got some from Auto Zone. Not much better. AND - if this has been talked about aready, forgive me and just point me to the right thread!
