After reading about the Ural rider being killed pulling onto the thruway got me to remembering about the one very close call we had coming home from our recent west trip. We too were pulling back on the freeway after stopping to stretch and relax at a rest stop. As I was pulling onto the merging lane and accelerating I looked over my left shoulder and seen 2 cars in the passing lane. So the coast is clear. You would think. The idiot in the second car talking on his cell phone decided to pull back into the driving lane what must have been right after my coast is clear look. Needless to say I'm doing the last sway into the driving lane and I HEAR not see this low rumble right beside me and a fender close enough to polish. Whoa were did you come from! Scared the bejesus out of us. I asked the wife were did he come from and she said she didn't know. She said she looked too when were were entering the thruway and didn't see anything in the driving lane either. Needless to say I was livid and quite upset but the wife said let him go. So I follow this guy for several more miles. He was everywhere without ever touching a signal once. I finally had enough and caught up with him to at least read him my extreme happiness at the top of my lungs along with pointing out a few flying birds. Again I was chastised by the wife which I had to point out to her that she was setting up a double standard. She asked how. Which made me laugh, so I had to remind her of her own happy verses and pointing out of birds that I've seen her do on more than one occasion. Guess where I'm going with this is I HATE CELL PHONES, THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO NOT WORK WHEN ANY VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. MANKIND LIVED BEFORE THEY WERE INVENTED AND MORE OF US WOULD PROBABLY BE LIVING NOW IF THIS WOULD HAPPEN!
  2. Santa Claus....is not too far away.....and I was wondering if I should maybe sell my 550 and replace it with a 665. The xm radio and lane indicators are really very attractive to me...but....is it worth the extra$$$? Maybe members who have owned/used both could give me some insight as to their thoughts on the good/bad/ugly between the two gps's? How much is the xm subscription? How is the reception out in the "boonies" Does the lane indicator work well? on a 6 lane freeway for instance...... Where did you install the xm antennae? Can you install it inside the fairing? What's my 2 year old 550 worth? Will the 550 cradle mount(Ram mount) work for the 665? Thanks for your insights..... gunk:mo money:
  3. He was beside me at a red light and swithced to my lane behind me when the light turned. Traffic was slow and someone rear ended him while behind me. I saw it all in my mirrow. He stayed on his feet somehow as the bike went tearing and rolling into the other lane. Lots of bike damage but the rider seemed fine. How he rode it out on his feet was impressive. Bike parts all over the road. In one sense, he was lucky.
  4. I finally got my new (to me) 83 VR on the road this last weekend and really enjoyed the ride. But, I couldn't get the rear view mirrors adjusted to suit me. It seems that their placement on the fairing is too low and too close to the centerline. I could only get a good view of my arm and the lane next to me on either side. I could never tell if anyone was directly behind. Has anyone else had this problem? And what did you do to correct it? Behind Blind in Tucson...
  5. I just finished mounting and wiring my rear view camera and display today, and it works like a charm!! Now I can see the whole world behind me right up to my trunk!! With the type of driving Ido, which is a lot of interstates as well as main roads, I have my left and right mirrors adjusted the way they would be on a cage, with the right miror looking down the lane on my right, and the left mirror down the left lane. I have a pair of parabolic mirrors on each mirror which helps the view directly behind me but not as good as I like. Now with the camera and display I can see everything I want and need to see!! Glad I made Becky buy me this for my birthday last month...:wow:
  6. I rode down to Southern Oregon and back over the last 2 days, a nice 700 mile ride. However on return just south of Eugene Ore, had a scarry moment ! 18 wheeler, 3 cars ahead of me in right lane, I'm in the right lane. Left lane, 1 car just ahead of me, and another 18 wheeler ahead of that car. That trucks cab, was about abreast of the tail end of the trailer in my lane 3 cars ahead of me. Speed about 65 MPH. The truck 3 cars ahead of me, throw's a tire caseing, from rear end of trailer. I don't know if the cars got hit, but the caseing went to the left lane, and went under the rear wheels of the 18 wheeler in the left lane. The loose caseing was propelled, Up, and back, and flew over the Car, that was directly behind the 18 wheeler in the left lane. ( that guy was very lucky, it did not go thru his windshield, cause he was tailgateing the truck !!! ) I watched as the large caseing ( about 1/2 of the caseing ) went flying bye me on my left, about 15 feet in the air. I watched it land about 40 feet behind me in the left lane. Lucky for me, it was traveling straight aft of the truck. !!! About now, I'm hitting the brakes as the car's ahead of me are slowing, and I see a dust cloud ahead, as the truck that threw the caseing, was takeing the shoulder of the road and hitting the brakes. Whats the morel of this story ?? Stay away from trucks, which I have said many times. And obviously yesterday I was not following my own advise. I was to darn close to those trucks, and I am darn lucky I did not get hit !! Other then that it was a nice trip, except for the 12 year old kid on a bike in some small town on Hwy 99W in Oregon who darted across the street in front of me. I almost hit him !! Oh well, such is life, Ride safe my friends, you never know whats comeing down those roads !!
  7. Test rode a 2010 Wing today, and whether or not you care here's what I thought. Turned bars to the left to exit parking lot. Oops windshield didn't turn it felt odd, but honestly it was the last time I even noticed the frame mounted fairing. Gave it some gas and immediately needed to shift to second. First gear seems almost unnecessary on this bike. I feel a little cramped. Is it because my feet are under me instead of out front? I can't decide. Hit third and twisted the throttle and I was having fun. It will run. Made a right turn effortlessly. This thing handles like a much smaller bike. I was close to my house so I tried out some curvy roads I knew of nearby and man this thing just rides so "effortless" is the word that keeps coming to mind, I don't feel cramped any more. I like the power. You can leave it in 4th gear and go about any speed you want, and the brakes are amazing. This thing is so quiet and smooooth you can listen to the radio and it's almost like being in a car. That's the part I can't decide if I like or not. I pull up the ramp to get on the interstate and 2 Harleys pass quickly and are probably 100 yards ahead before I get halfway up the ramp. I give it some gas and I'm on their tail in seconds. I'm at 90 but it feels so comfortable I feel like I'm going slower. I get off at the next exit and head back towards the dealership. The way I'm seated it feels like my toes are pointed down, and I wonder if I leaned enough to drag a peg would I scrape the toe of my tennis shoe? I look down and don't think so. I take time to look at all the controls, gauges and storage compartments and think it's kind of cool. Like I'm on some kind of space vehicle. Oops I'm coming up to the dealership and I'm in the wrong lane with several cars in the other lane. No problem a little throttle and I pass 4 cars in nothing flat and change lanes. Uh oh, one of them was a cop, but he doesn't seem to care. Pull back in and park, but wish I could keep it for a day. I don't know if I would want it for my daily rider, but it's definitely on my list. Comfort and speed aren't the only reasons I ride. I like the feel and sound that cruisers have and the Wing doesn't, but I think I could get used to it pretty quick.
  8. Took an MSF ERC (Experienced Rider's Course) yesterday and PASSED! It was a HOT mourning and instructors were kind enough to take 5-10 minutes breaks between each lesson. This course was held on an Military base , so I had to make sure I unloaded all my munitions ......bummer. Mostly HD's , 1- Honda, 1- Boulevard, and only myself on a RSV being the largest bike out there. For you riders whom have a harder time keeping the RSV upright in a parking lot speeds, you need to take this course! Needless to say it was not also FUN , but learned a few things and fine-tuned slow turning maneuvers. Instructors was surprised to see a large RSV jump over a 2 x4 (approaching road obstacle lesson) as they claimed I hopped over that board and at least 4" off the ground. I started out a bit nervous to say the least, but quickly looked at it as more their to have fun and relax and became one with the bike though I soaked in all info. Seriously, can you imagine that ? . All them painted lines on the course really played a mind trip on me at first. Each course lesson was conducted by at least a minimum of 4 passes after an instructor ran through the drill and another explained from his booklet with pictures of the course. We did figure 8's in widths of a tight 2 lane road down to a single width of one lane as well as Tight S turns, Feathering the clutch to high idle break control. Found out a lot of us focus on turns directly in front of ourselves and not turning the head and looking forward in our turns. One course was teaching us the brake abruptly in straight line, in a swerve or in a curve. I was surprised to hear all them HD's with ABS lock up their rear tires. Next time I take the course, it will be pulling the BEERCART and/or 2 up. If you haven't already taken a MSF , please do .You will learn more about yourself, your bike, and take advantage as a qualified instructor can observe and help fine tune your abilities. BEER30
  9. Omaha is back at the road repairs on I-80 since the CWS is over. They have been cutting the surface on I-80 between 24th St. and 13th St. on the east bound side for a few days now. I got caught in the left lane on Saturday and it was a rough one. The surface cuts were so deep and crooked it just took the bike for a ride I didn't want to be on. I was all over the place even dropping down to 40 mph. Sunday I had to go that way again and stayed in the right lane as it had not been cut yet. I had to go back again today so I stayed in the right lane again. I saw cars hitting their brakes ahead of me and I caught a glance of new blacktop in the left lane ahead so I switched over. Whew......safe. My butt! The new surface ended in short order and dropped me right back into a snakepit of the worst cuts I've ever seen on a road. Had to drop speed and hang on but the cuts were so bad the bike just followed them to the left onto the breakdown lane. I got it pulled up about a foot from the retaining wall. Pucker factor.....about 8. Ok. Cool. I got my business done on the other side of the river and headed home on west bound I-80. That has been clear and good running even with the bridge work. Not today. Just past 13th St. again and had just passed a couple in the right lane on a Victory. They fell in behind me as their lane was slowing down and then....BAM... drop off and the danged cuts in the left lane. The worst part is this is where the road work switches traffic onto the left shoulder for a ways than then back onto the regular surface. The problem there is the drop off between lanes is so sharp there is no safe way to jump the bike back across the lane again. The shoulder has been cut down so deep and so badly and you're stuck in it until you can find a smooth spot on a bridge to make the lane change. You're just stuck on the shoulder. No safe way off. Puker factor west bound........I'm going with a 10 on this one. I kept glancing back in the mirrors at the Victory and he was having a terrible time, looked like he was serving about a foot back and forth and losing speed fast. I finally hit a bridge section and got over to an uncut lane. I worked my way over to the outside lane and watched the traffic slowing down back where I had been. I pulled off at the first exit and waited to see if the Victory was coming up. I sat there for a smoke and the couple never came by. Now I'm worried. I hope they just stopped and waited for a safe chance to get back onto the road. The Avons have always done me proud on the way they walked across the surface grinds and tar snakes. NEVER had a moment of concern with them. But the grooves are so bad in spots that you would think you lost a rear tire. So if you happen to be coming into Omaha on I-80 in the next few days, be prepared. Or detour through on I-680 or I-480 or even better use the new Veterans Bridge into South Omaha. Maybe they will have this death trap fixed soon before somebody goes down. I'm not one to whine about road condtions. It's part of traveling. But this is nuts. Mike
  10. survived a motorcycle accident...got rearended by a dumb a$$ trying to use a left turn lane for a passing lane. came out with a headache and a smashed up bike. i was waiting at a red light to turn left; after the light turned green i waited for several oncoming cars, and just started moving when i got hit; two cars involved, the one behind me was hit by someone behind him. the guy responsible tried to convince me to just accept $2000 rather than report it it! NOT--i expect the bike was totaled.
  11. I know that I do not post a lot, but all of your advise got me into a 2006 RSTD and I love it. This is not motorcycle related, but this was a bad accident that involved one of the associates that I worked with. This kid had a lot going for him, and it is a shame to see this happen. This kid had a great heart for work, and please pray for his family. His wife, 11 month old and himself were killed. Please pray for his sister as she is still in critical condition. Fatal Crash on I-35 By KGNS News Story Created: Jul 3, 2010 Story Updated: Jul 3, 2010 As most people are out and about on this July the Fourth weekend, traffic on our highways is always a concern. Already an accident on Interstate 35 claims the life of three people, it's our top story. Three are dead and another is in serious condition after an 18-wheeler veered from the southbound lane to the northbound lane and crushed an oncoming Toyota. The crash happened this morning at mile marker 44 just outside of Encinal. The Toyota was carrying two adults and two children. A 21 year old male was driving with a 21 year old female in the passenger seat, both died in the wreck as well as an 11 month old boy. A 13 year old girl was in the back and is in grave condition. She was transported to a San Antonio hospital. The driver of the semi, who was hauling sand, was unharmed in the collision. Officials have not released the names of the victims and whether or not they were Laredoans. Texas State troopers are still investigating. We'll bring you more details as they become available.
  12. Wanted to pass on what happened to me on the way to work this morning and to show how much we have to watch out for those who dont pay attention to how they are driving... I was in the middle lane (of course driving the speed limit) when a driver started pulling into my lane from the right, I let go with a blast of the airhorn (hee hee) and the olny responce was he covered his head with his hood... Not even a sorry nod or anything.. Please keep your eyes open when on the road.....
  13. GOOD THING TO KNOW: New Law: If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road, you have to change to the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down by 20 mph. Every state except Hawaii and Maryland and the D.C. has this law. In California , the "Move-over" law became operative on January 1, 2010. http://www.moveoveramerica.com/ A friend's son got a ticket for this recently. A police car (turned out it was 2 police cars) was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone else. He slowed down to pass but did not move into the other lane. The second police car immediately pulled him over and gave him a ticket. He had never heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able, you are to move into the far lane. The cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license and a mandatory court appearance. Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law. It is true (see details at the following web address). http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/moveover.asp
  14. As I was coming to work at about 7am, I came upon a city cop in front of me that quickly moved into the right lane on a 40mph 4 lane city street. After I passed, he moved back in behind me and paced me for close to a mile. He then blue lighted me and I stopped, blocking the right lane. I knew I was not speeding, so I was curious as to why he stopped me. When he came up beside me, he advised me that running a strobe in my headlight was against the law. I told him that it was interesting that I have had a strobe in my bike for 13 years and was within about 30 miles of putting 100,000 miles on it and he was the first that had ever taken issue with it. I also told him that I had the flash frequency set slower so that it would not be confused as an emergency vehicle. When he told me that for sure I had better not be caught by a Tennessee State Trooper. I told him I had been pulled over by a TST for a strobe, but it was in my taillight lens, activated by the brake. The TST told me that he pulled me over because I had it behind a red lens and a colored strobe was not legal. I also told the city cop that I showed the TST my headlight strobe and he did not take issue with it. I told him I did it to be seen for safety"s sake and he admitted there had been 5 cyclist's death in our area so far this year. He then told me that he also rode a motorcycle. When I asked him what he rode, he would only say that he had two "sport bikes". He told me that he was not going to give me a ticket, but he sure did have an arrogent attitude. I wonder if I can go another 13 years and 100,000 miles without getting pulled over for a strobe? RandyA
  15. Almost another incident today that made one smelly Biker , I bet ya ! I was in my P/U fetching BEER24/7 Birthday present when some old biker decided to pull over into my lane . Too explain it better , we were approaching a red light intersection and I was in the right lane , he had one cage in front of him in the left lane , so he figured he would get into the clear lane at which I was in . He forgot that I was on the right side of him and as his shoulder was to my left front tire . He suddenly did an aggressive swerve right and I had to lock up the brakes and also blew the horn to warn him I was there . I honestly cannot tell you that if he jumped high off the saddle or if he grew smelly substance in his britches . Needless to say I missed him or did he miss me ? So I did not score any points today to say the least , even though he did manage to get in front of me . I followed his for about 7 miles . He was weaving left to right , to the left, to the right in the oust side lane . Then he slowed down and then sped up like old timers do . I watched him carefully and decided maybe I need to get his attention to see if he was OK . We approached another intersection to stop . I rolled down my passenger side window to shout out if he was OK or was he tire . I was prepared to buy the old coot a cup of coffee if needed . But he pulled over into a gas station without answering me , so I think he realized he needed to stop . So I figured he would be OK , so I forwarded onto my Mom's to hide BEER24/7 Birthday present until Wednesday . What was pretty dang funny was that he has "GRAVE ROBBER" painted on the side of his gas tank . Go Figure !!!!! BEER30
  16. Last night, on my way home from work, a young lady on a cell phone pulled out beside me and sideswiped my 89 Royale. Fortunately the gear all worked flawlessly and I got away with some aches and pains. Here is the part I want to share with you all: I was on a boulevard (center divider) with 2 lanes both directions. I was in the left lane and the young lady was coming from the left on a merge across the boulevard. She was at a stop sign, lost, on the cell phone trying to get directions and decided to go just as I came beside her. We were the only cars in the vicinity. Now, why would I be in the left lane with a car merging from the left with the right lane wide open? Because I was distracted. My head was elsewhere. Now, she shouldn't have pulled out into me like that but if I'd been in the right lane (where a smart biker would have been in that situation) this wreck would not have happened. I wouldn't have the bruises, the Venture wouldn't be significantly damaged and the young lady's prom night would not have been spoiled. I hope I never forget the lesson and I wanted to post it to remind all my friends here to stay sharp!
  17. I took out my new tires for a spin. Big difference from the stock Bridgestones. Seemed like the bike was much easier to keep a straight line before. Now I find my self struggling to stay in the lane? Is that a pressure thing or just cause they new? I'm running 38 front and 42 rear.
  18. My friend wrote me this morning and said he just bought a new Buick and that he must be getting old. I have a Buick Park Avenue! I told him the following,,,,,Life "begins" with a Buick! Your now authorized to drive in the left lane at 50mph with your right turn signal on, attempt to parallel park by nosing in. Once in, you may now do a 5 minute "bumper bump" to assure equal distance front and rear. You may also drive two lane state Hwy's at 45mph oblivious to the 26 cars in your rearview mirror. You may now shop at Pamida ,, park any way you like, even sideways! You may leave your lights on, (auto shut off) while in innocent awe your horn blasts repeatedly, you fumble with your key fob then drive off with your trunk open! You may practice double parking at the drug store and café while ignoring even semi air horn blasts!.... All this in preparation for a Caddy! Oh yes,,,,,,Caddy's come with optional handicap stickers that can be displayed in non-handicap parking zones!,,,, Imagine the FREEDOM! As an added plus, the owners manual comes in LARGE PRINT! Renne,,,
  19. Yesterday we were heading to the Barrett Jackson car auction on the 101 loop road around Phoenix. I was running in the middle lane at the speed limit with the headlight modulator on. A guy in a jeep in the right lane decides he wants my spot and came about half way into my lane before he got the message. Last I seen him, he was still in the right lane and had dropped back to a crawl. That was too close for comfort.
  20. Took a ride yesterday as it was about 62º. Just riding along down the four lane, which has a 65mph speed limit, which was about what I was going and came upon a pickup running a little slower. I checked my mirror and moved over into the left lane. I then realize there was one of the mid 90's black Impala SS' coming up to me at a good clip. Rather than kick it down a gear or two, I just cranked it on in 5th. As I accelerated past the truck, I moved over in the right lane and run up to about 85mph. The Impala had caught me and was moving past me and I was real tempted to drop down to 4th and run it up some, but I just let it go. By this time we were going up an incline, so i just let the bike slow back to 65mph and let the car go on as he was getting faster. Just before I crested the hill, my radar detector went off. As I crested the hill, there was a Deputy diving into the median to make a u-turn. I had come upon a large truck in the right lane going about 55mph and decided to slow down and see what the Deputy was going to do. He soon came flying past me accelerating as much as that Crown Vic would do. As soon as he passed me, I swung over behind him to see if the Impala was still in site. From that point on the highway, which is straight, it was at least a mile before it crested another hill. That Impala was getting ready to start up the hill. As I drove for the next three miles, with going over several hills and passing several roads that went into oblivion in just a short distance, I figured the Impala had got away. Then I crested a hill and there was the Deputy with lights flashing and a black Impala SS. I moved over into the left lane and gave them the old air horn toot and a wave as I passed. It did iritate me how quickly he came up on me and wondered how hard he would have had to brake if I had not accelerated as hard as I did to get out of his way. That is one time I was just glad I used good sense because my bike really likes this cool air and was running great. As I came back that way later, I tried to keep an eye out for the Deputy as I would love to have known what he clocked him at, as it had to be well over 100mph. RandyA
  21. Yesterday my wife and I were returning from a ride. We were approaching the highway where we turn left about 2 miles from home. I saw a light from a bike in my rear view mirror approaching. There is a traffic light where we turn left on a four lane to go home. The light was red so I starting slowing and moved into the left turn lane. The other bike, a harley softail deuce, came up beside me and I waved at him. I thought he was going to stay in the right lane to go straight or turn right. He came by and swerved into the left turn lane right in front of me. I had to slam on brakes to stop without hitting him. I can't repeat what I was calling him to myself. When the light turned green we turned left and he went over into the right lane. I thought OK buddy, I am going to see what you have but then remembered I was riding 2 up and he was riding single so the venture might not keep up. As he turned I could hear the roar of the pipes and knew he was twisting the throttle wide open. I twisted my throttle wide open and he was leaving me. When I hit the rev limit and my engine started sputtering I hit second gear and the venture lurched forward and I started gaining on him. When I was on his rear fender I hit third and swerved into the left lane and went by him like he was standing still. He was winding it out but I was steadily leaving him. I hit fourth and at 100 mph saw his light in my rear view mirror. It was time for me to turn right and go home so I backed off to let him come by so I could get back in the right lane. When he came by he gave me the finger. I guess it hurt his feelings because a metric bike riding 2 up blew his big bad harely away.
  22. We got home from our 14 day MC Trip from Omaha, NE to Washington / Canada Border to San Diego / Mexican border then east to Vegas then down to I-40 / Route 66 to Ok City then North to Omaha! Around 5.5k'ish miles!! - The heat was the worst! We rode in 104°F thru Portland, but 114°F coming across the desert to & from Vegas! (I'm not sure, but at one point, I'd swear that I saw a man dressed in all red with horns & a pitch fork). I doubt I will ever bike across that desert again!! - MANY thanks to those that invented the Cooling Vests that we bought in San Diego!! The bike ran flawless and was soooo smooth. My new Bushtec trailer was packed full and I could hardly tell I was pulling it, (except losing 2 - 3 mpg). Gas mileage was HORRIBLE!! I got as low as 27mpg when running above 70mph. The best I got was 35mpg while doing 50ish. This made most of my gas stop ranges between 100 & 120 miles, which was VERY annoying! If I can't get my mileage higher, I think I will be trading this bike for something with better fuel economy before my next long trip. All of the talk about West Coast drivers being bad - Nonsense!! THEY know how to drive! When I wasn't sure which lane I needed to be in until the last moment, I just signalled and they let me over!! We had no traffic issues until KS & NE, then back to fighing for a lane & slow drivers in the wrong lane!! As most of our trips go, it was a great trip - but it is wonderful to be home. craigr
  23. Going down a four lane hwy. in Pontiac today, two lanes going both ways. I was in the outside lane and a guy decided to get on it and pass a car in front of him in the inside lane. That means coming over into my lane. I moved over very quick but had no place to go. I was now at his left rear door and getting closer. I finally found the horn. "The Horn" is the WOLO Air Horn. I hit that button and stayed on it. He had his window down and then he over reacted to the LOUD noise. He cut the car back to the right and almost hit the car in front of him that he was trying to pass, as he was slamming on his brakes. The car in front of him was also braking because they thought a freight train was coming. I know for a fact he would have never heard the stock horn. All turned out well. Next time I won't keep it on so long.

    Montreal

Arrived home last Thursday evening from the international city manager conference in Montreal, Quebec, traveling from Coldwater, Michigan, via Port Huron through Ontario returning through northern New York (reminds me of Michigan's UP) and highway 6 across PA through Cleveland (during rush hour) arriving home at 8:45 pm. I sure wish the bike had better lighting. Deer are random creatures especially at this time of year when the rut is about to begin. Everytime I think about a different ride, the Venture reminds me of why it has been in production for a dozen years essentially unchanged. What other bike would it be? The Wing has great lights I am told and the new Ultra Limited with heated grips is an attractive ride at an unreasonable price and all that Harley hoopla attached to it. I just like to ride lots and lots of miles. Saw some beautiful scenery and only one idiot driver in New York state out in the middle of nowhere. Go figure. This guy is driving an old Camaro on a straight stretch of road with me behind him and three vehicles behind me. He whips off the shoulder and back onto the highway in the beginning of a 180 degree turn. I hit both brakes stopping short of a vehicle that now crosses the lane in front of me. He sheepishly waves (driving gloves, no less) for me and the cars to move around him in the opposing traffic lane. It's hard to understand the mind set of this kind of driver. A real menace. All in all a fun 1,900 mile trip. Bill
  25. Just a question. Being as I am from NC we have been undedr constant highway road construction for as long as I can remember. The wife and I were riding a few days back and a tractor trailer was moving into our lane with us beside it. Now as the next lane over was clear it would usually be no prob, but the road is under renovation and they had just repaved that lane. This leaves a 2-4 inch lip to get over and at 65 mph we only felt comfortable with hard braking instead of trying to cross this hump/lip while running in the same direction as the lip. I've had cars have a hard time with this type of uneven type of road constuction. Guess my question is, how do you folks handle getting over in this type of situation? Is it safe to go over these types of lips/humps at hyway speed? any input is appreciated. David
