  1. Getting ready to head out to Greensboro this morning and noticed a discoloration on my radiator nothing wet on the floor and the radiator did not feel wet, however I did not want to get 5 hours away and it fail. I rode around the local area for a couple hours still looks the same but no visible leak. So did I just hit big bug or do I have a very slow leak?
  2. I posted last week about the creaking noise coming from the rear. My option was to get it done on warranty or do it myself. Not sure of myself I printed the info from the tech section and tackled it myself. Not a bad job and it will be easier next time. It took me a couple of hours but it is 60 miles to the dealer so that would mean two trips and four hours on the road. I will finish up tomorrow night in about 15 minutes. My torque wrench only goes to 75 lbs and the axle calls for 140 lbs. Any ideas short of buying another wrench. Thanks to those who take pictures and help with the tech forum! I love this site!
  3. Ok guys trying to plan out my ss1000 for this summer, date still kinda open wondering if anyone would be interested in riding along. Looking at leaving traverse city Mi around 6am heading to I-75 then south to Crittenton Ky where I will be turning around and heading back. Looks like about 19 or 20 hours. Gonna be hard and fast and not your usual site seeing cruise but should be a blast. But if anyone is interested please let me know.
  4. gonna take more than a couple of hours, to figure this new iMAC out! so far, i like what i have "discovered" how to do, but that ain't saying much. just jt
  5. First off I retire son turns 18 and now we are happy new grandparents of our first grandbaby, a little girl! No pics...she is just hours old and we havent even been up to see them yet! Wow.....does that make me officially an old fart?
  6. Newfies are the Brightest A company was looking to hire someone for an important position so they interviewed dozens of applicants and narrowed their search down to three people from different parts of Canada . In an attempt to pick one of them, they decided to give them all the same question to answer within 24 hours, and the one with the best answer would get the job. The question was: A man and a woman are in bed, nude. The woman is lying on her side with her back facing the man, and the man is lying on his side facing the woman's back. What is the man's name? After the 24 hours was up... the three were brought in to give their answers. The first from Saskatchewan , says, "My answer is... there is no answer." The second, from Alberta , says, "My answer is... that there is no way to determine the answer with the information we were given. The third one from Newfoundland says, "I'm not exactly sure, but... I have it narrowed down to two names. It's either: Willie Turner or Willie Nailer." The Newfoundlander got the job.
  7. A guy goes to apply for a job. The interviewer asks him, "Are you allergic to anything?" He replies, "Yes, caffeine. I can't drink coffee." "Ok, Have you ever been in the military service?" "Yes," he says, "I was in Iraq for one tour." The interviewer says, "That will give you 5 extra points toward employment." Then he asks, "Are you disabled in any way?" The guy says, "Yes. A bomb exploded near me and I lost both my testicles." The interviewer grimaces and then says, "Okay. You've got enough points for me to hire you right now. Our normal hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. You can start tomorrow at 10:00 am, and plan on starting at 10:00 am every day." The guy is puzzled and asks, "If the work hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 PM, why don't you want me here until 10:00 am?" "This is a government job", the interviewer says. "The first two hours, we just stand around drinking coffee and scratching our balls. No point in you coming in for that."
  8. I know there are no "dumb questions", only "dumb answers" so I figgure I'll get a few with this "non-dumb" question.... We have 2 ways of expressing time.... AM/PM or "Military" aka 24-hour clock. So my non-dumb question is .... why, when using the 24-hour clock, we say, for example, 13 hundred hours ... or .... 21 hundred hours ... or ... 05 hundred hours ???? If it's 5AM in the morning, I certainly haven't been sleeping for 5 hundred hours...!!! Oh geeeezzzzzzzzz.... I have cabin fever and PMS sooooooooooo BAD!!!!
  9. My wife and I were out shopping. Stopping in front of a swimsuit store, She asks me .... should I get a 2 piece or an all in one. .....I said better make it the two peice, you will never get it all in one. Hospital Visiting Hours are 10 AM to 8 PM http://venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/Avatars_Gee_George.gif
  10. Here is a pic of the view from our dining room window this morning. I counted nine but there may have been more than that. They played out there, having a good old time running back and forth for a couple of hours.
  11. My wife asked me, "How many women have you slept with?" I proudly replied, "Only you, Darling. With all the others I was awake." Hospital Visiting Hours are 10 AM to 8 PM
  12. While sitting here in the office I have the local news network on in the background. What used to be an occassional report has been getting very common. Motorcycle vs. what ever they can hit..... Not just once a day, but several times a day... basically during commuter hours. This morning's was a fatality. I tell ya it's getting so I don't want to go around the block on two wheels... Even while riding around in the truck or 'Burb watching the crazies, I look around and I'm thankful I'm in a cage..... It's ridiculous.
  13. On the spur of the moment I decided to ride out to California to surprise my brother for his 60th b-day. Left Salt Lake City on Thursday morning on my '08 RSV and 13 hours later arrived at friends house near LA after 784 miles, even with a 140 mile detour. It was 35 degrees when I left but warmed up with time and heading South. Spent 3 days in Santa Barbara then headed home on Monday, 793 miles and 13 hours later pulled into my driveway. I had forgotten how beautiful that ride is. All I can say is I LOVE THIS BIKE. Cruised at 70-80 mph most of the way and the bike just hummed nicely all the way. The electronic cruise control and my mp3 player made the trip so easy, I wasn't really tired at all. Just under 1800 miles total.
  14. I've decided I'm going to add a 2nd gen to the stable (I've got some plans for the 1st gen, but I'll save that for later). I know there's some nice ones in the classifides on here, but if anybody knows of a nice one under $8k within a few hours of East TN, please let me know. Thanks!
  15. After the past few weeks, I have really started to experience lower tail bone discomfort. A pain in the "behind"! Have had the Butler Modification done and been good comfort up until the now. Looking for driver saddle options? Also, I have been adjusting my Utopia Backrest to be a little more upright, to assist in posture for riding. Seems to helps some, but not totally after the 2 hours or so. As for size, I'm 6'1" and 33" in-seam and bike fits well for height. Did the Level Links as well and did not notice any significant change for "fit" Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  16. Good to be home but miss the riding already. We arrived home about 2 hours ago. After the ralley we went to 6 flags north of Chicago. We spent a full day there (12 hours Friday). It was great for the kids and Marilyn. I dont do rides but I enjoyed watching. Headed home Sat. and stopped for lunch with Boo and Jane. Hoteled it later in the day and a good thing as the worst storm we've seen came through that night. We just beat another huge storm tonight by minutes but did get caught in some aweful wind! Thanks to Kevin and Sue for the rally. It was great to see some of the old rascals and meet some new faces. Sorry Russell we bolted right through Mpls and didnt stop this time. It was great to see you on the way down though. (thanks again for lunch!) Take care everyone and thanks again!
  17. My wife and I put thease decals on the bike in less than two hours including three breaks. http://s219.photobucket.com/albums/cc231/TEW47/ tew47
  18. Found this sweet 07 with 932 miles (not a type o, nine hundred thirty two.) Rode two hours west on a Venture came back two Hours east on a Goldwing. Not to cast dispersions but the wing is a far superior ride. It has Nav ABS Air Bag the whole ball o wax. In the color I wanted to boot! Here is a pic of it on the show room floor. Needless to say in debt again. But if you want to dance you gotta pay the fidler. I'm happy with it Had them install a set of kurry arm rests for dawn while we were at it. Now got to go to Tractor supply for more horse shoes.
  19. head gasket leak day.. I've had my RSV now for a grand total of 18 days, sitting at work this morning I noticed a drop of something under the bike. Upon closer inspection I found that the right rear cylinder seemed to be leaking oil, very diffulcult to see back there running my hand along the valve cover I knew it wasn't there it had to be lower. Called my stealer and explained just how upset I was about the fact that this happened and did they not go over a bike before delivery to a customer. After an hour and half ride to the dealers and three hours it was brought to my attention that they believe it has a service bulletin on this problem, not impressed was I and explained that to them, why when I called them at 1130am and then rode down there in two hours they didn't get on it and check for a SB. Instead I sat there smoking cigs and and steaming for three hours, while they puttered around having three techs looking at the bike. I have now read up on here about the problem, and hopefully once I get the bike back this will be the end of it. One question ... what are the chances antifreeze got into the oil and may have buggered up the bearings?? Anyone here have any problems after the heads and cylinders were pulled and reassembled, due to contaminated oil before the fix? So just so I'm armed when I go back to the dealer after a major job such as this the valves should have been set correct and carbs sync done, as i want to be sure of what I'm demanding before I leave the dealer ... Thankfully the only thing I will be out is time with the bike, which rain is forecasted for the next five days, so hopefully they will get it back to me soon. Hopefully my boss isn't to pissed I just left at lunchtime and told him the bike is more important right now than work...opps..lol
  20. I've got to say.....some weeks are meant to be forgotten. This was one of them. Like they say.....When it rains..... it pours. Lets see...where to begin? I guess the trivial stuff should be first. Rain.....lots of rain. I got rid of my Wally World burners this spring and installed a nice pair of 4 1/2 chrome driving lights with visors and amber lights on my '84. Looked really sharp and did a nice job. I had Squidlys light brackets and he even modified the brackets that the brackets mount onto to beef them up to deal with the bigger light. The problem was after about 500 miles the vibration just beat the elements out of them. Too big of a light with not enough support. Installed new clear bulbs and lost both of them in less than 200 miles. Back to the Wally World burners until I figure out another way to mount them. My full time job informed me that my hours would be restricted to 40 hours a week. Weird. I've been with this company for five years and they keep adding extra duties that have been keeping me around 48 hours a week for the last four years. So I asked the the question, "Who's going to do the rest my job?" Go figure......they did my performance review and I didn't score so well on "Attitude". SURPRISE! LOL! My part time job notified me that they are cutting my hours by 75%. Lets see.....that should almost pay for the gas it takes to drive to and from work. Oh! Hey! I'm on the bike! I can still make a few bucks! About $20.00 a week! Somebody just tell me not to bother coming in anymore. Please? More rain...... River Roads are holding up well. My car has been setting a lot as I've been on the bike every chance I get since I got it back together. I guess it was feeling neglected as the day I really wanted to drive it because of the "heavy rain" it decided not to start. Took a day to figure that out and a rather pricey module to fix it. Seemed the sensor was cracked and did not like the moist conditions. I used to have a Ford wagon that could predict rain 3 days in advance. Got rid of that one. Hummm..... So a week ago I sit down to my trusty 'puter to take care of some bills and do my thing in cyberspace and I get the message, "HARD DRIVE IS UNSTABLE, BACKUP NOW". Wow! Ok. I'm on that........wait.....how much time do I have? Not so much I guess. Second backup disk into the process it just dies. Pull the hard drive and it's gone meltdown. I suppose some of you know how much time goes into replacing a hard drive and reinstalling the system and doing the restore and the backup and well....ya know. But I'm here today. Whew! So today was my special day. Had the afternoon off because on the hours being cut back. Ok that's cool. Nice day out.....mid 60's......blue sky......wind was mild... for a change. So what to do? RIDE!!!! I'm getting the bike out and gearing up to head out and my daughter rolls in. She actually asked if she could go with me. What the hey? She's 18.... she never wants to hang with dad anymore. Something fishy here.....but I'm not going to pass on spending some time with her. Grab your gear kid.....let's roll! And we are off........ Hit the back highways and enjoying the day. Ran across a custom car show......and she actually knew what some of the cars were! That might explain the copy of Hot Rod I found in her room. Found a BBQ place and fed our faces. I'm looking for ice cream next. But we were rolling down the highway about 65 mph and I catch a bit of movement at the bottom of my vision as something flipped up in front of the tank cover and slid down into my lap. No biggie....a piece of a leaf......maybe some sort of road debris.....not worried. YET! A few miles down the the road I catch another movement. On my leg, actually crawling up my leg....well....between my legs. Took me a moment to identify it but when I did I had to muster some control. Now I don't know how many of you guys have ever had a Wolf spider settle in on your "Berries and Twig" at 65 mph but it is a bit unsettling to say the least. It's a nice one to, about 2 inches across on the leg span. And it's holding it front legs up! I guess it was checking for wind speed. Or it's pissed off. I bet on pissed off. So I know that if I even mutter the word "Spider" my daughter will be getting off the bike at any speed. She would! Hates spiders! Me.......I'm trying to figure out how to get off the bike without kicking my daughter in the head. I'm not all that fond of them either and not under those conditions. So mustering my self control I rode it out with a wolf spider waving at traffic in my lap until I got to a get off and pulled into a town and stopped at the traffic light. With a firm but demanding flick of a finger I sent the little fellow off to another location. Now....I didn't mean for it to happen the way it did but the lil fellow found a new ride. The window on the car next to me was open and he just went right on in. Not planned. Just happened. As the light changed and I pulled away I could hear the screaming. I saw my daughters head spin around to look and she tapped me on the helmet and asked me if I heard them screaming. "Yep, Pumpkin....I did.....maybe they found a spider." I didn't tell her what happened and don't plan on it either. I'd never get her back on the bike again....ever! So that was my week. But I'm feeling much better now. Supposed to be in the 70's tomorrow and blue skys again. More therapy......after I check the bike REALLY good for hitch hikers. Ya'll ride safe and be kind to animals. Never leave one stranded away from home. Make sure they have a ride. Mike
  21. This ends in a couple of hours but is a good deal http://www.1saleaday.com/
  22. But I've gotta go pick my bike up from a buddy's house two hours away today. It's 44 degrees and raining, so I might be a popcicle by the time I get back!
  23. Watching the Mets and Cards...game has been on over five hours...an outfielder just pitched the top of the inning for the Cards. Amazing!
  24. Well I guess there is nothing like a mild threat to get things rolling and PayPal helped get things taken care of. I've used PayPal for a long time and never had a problem with a supplier or eBay seller and had to file a dispute. I placed an order for $147.18 with a company back on 3/17/10 for parts on a bike project. When I checked out I saw they had PayPal so I used that option. Over the last four weeks there have been 4 voice mails left on their system with no reply, 4 e-mails sent with no response, and only two occasions were I was able to actually speak with a human only to be told they had problems with their supplier, yada yada, and the next time on 4/7 that they still did not have the parts for shipping and MAYBE sometime later in the month.......maybe. Weird.....before I placed the order they comfirmed that they had EVERYTHING in stock for immediate shipping. So during that phone call on the 7th I canceled my order. The owner stated that he was canceling the PayPal payment and would refund the amount to my PP account within 24 hours. Let see......from 4/7 to 4/15 ......is more than 24 hours right? Another phone call that went to voice mail with no reply, another e-mail requesting the status of the refund......no reply again. So late last night I opened a dispute file on PayPal. Wrote a nice note to the company stating my position and requesting that it be dealt with to avoid a claim. figured it was worth a shot. Not making any progress with these folks on my own. Stopped by the house before noon today and checked my e-mails. Got one from PP stating my dispute had been canceled. What the hey? Just opened that sucker last night. Checked my PP account and what did I find? $147.18 refund. In less than 14 hours at that! I guess the idea of a PP claim against them wasn't something they wanted. Lil do they know that would have been better than me stopping by with my hickory stick. Was getting to that point. So score one for the good guys. Ok.....vented..... Mike
  25. What will you do with the extra daylight hours? Renne..........:puzzled:
