  1. Got this in my e-mail anyone know if it is true? TRUE STORY FROM... "THE HOUSTON HERALD NEWSPAPER" IN HOUSTON , TEXAS MARCH 5th, 2009 ~ Last Thursday Night Around Midnight,A Woman From Houston , Texas Was Arrested, Jailed, And Charged With ManslaughterFor Shooting A Man 6 Times In The Back As He Was Running Away With Her Purse.~ The Following Monday Morning, The Woman Was Called In Front OfTheArraignment Judge, Sworn In, And AskedTo Explain Her Actions. The Woman Replied,"I Was Standing At The Corner Bus Stop For About 15 Minutes, Waiting For TheBus To Take Me Home After Work. I AmA Waitress At A Local Cafe... I Was There Alone,So I Had My Right Hand On My Pistol, That Was In My Purse, That Was HungOver My Left Shoulder. All Of A Sudden I Was BeingSpun AroundHard To My Left. As I Caught My Balance, I Saw A Man Running Away From Me With My Purse. I Looked Down At My Right Hand And I SawThat My Fingers Were Wrapped Tightly Around My Pistol. The Next Thing I Remember Is Saying Out Loud, "No Way Punk! Your Not Stealing MyPay Check And Tips." ~I Raised My Right Hand, Pointed My Pistol At The Man Running Away From Me With My Purse, And Squeezed The Trigger Of My Pistol 6 Times! ~ When Asked By The Arraignment Judge, "Why Did You Shoot The Man 6 Times? ~ The Woman Replied Under Oath, "Because,When I Pulled The Trigger The 7th Time,It Only Went Click." ~ The Woman Was Acquitted Of All Charges. She Was Back At Work,At The Cafe, The Next Day! Now that's Gun Control.... AMEN If it is true, I wish we had "Judges" like that in Iowa. Bryan
  2. Anyone seen hand guards for the RSV 2nd Gen other than Hippo or National Cycle? I can't even imagine riding with Hippo for a safety factor to start with.. National Cycle don't seem to have a RSV option.. however I'd seen a 2nd Gen with guard but couldn't find the owner to ask where he got them.. they weren't curved like the NC but angular.. Looking for something to keep the hands a tad warmer..
  3. Need to syncronise the carbs on my 09 venture. Home remodeling has eaten all my tool buying funds. Anyone in North Ga. have the tools and want to hold my hand while doing this for the first time?
  4. In a post someone talked about the cool wave and the new nerdy wave. I must be dumb on this one, some explain the waves to me, so I know which one I using. I just hold my hand out to the side. Gregg
  5. So I noticed today that when in a right hand turn at around 55 mph I got a slight wobble but not in a left hand turn. Any remakes on this? Thanks
  6. I'm not a big fan of KOA's but must have decent showers and off the main road (road noise). Can you give me a FIRST HAND recommendation? I can and will start an internet search too but I KNOW nothing is better than FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE. Will be EAST of Indy near Route-9 Thank You Charlie & Mimi
  7. At least that is what I think they are. If you have a royale, these screws/bolts are holding your radio controls to the handlebars. If you dont have a Royale, there are plastic plugs over the holes in the clutch and brake reservoirs. I am trying to mount something in those locations and cant find what bolt goes in there. Plus I'm sure the right hand one is left and thread from the looks of it. Anyone know of a store online that may have metric fine thread left hand bolts in chrome? If not chrome then stainless? if not stainless then anything? I'm sure finding a set of stock ones is like finding hen's teeth.
  8. It seems Eck and Dragonrider could not resist a little bit of hand combat... It was considered a tie!
  9. I purchased an 03 RSV at a good price and I'm trying to get right before I re sell it. It has new tires, brakes and the head bearings seem to be right according to the adjustment info supplied here for bump and return of the front end as posted. The problem is that when you go into a turn you feel as if you have to muscle it. You almost have to pull with one hand and push with the other. It is not as smooth as my 1999 RSV. I have a suspicion that something may be out of alignment or bent. Anyone have any ideas as to how to check if something is bent (ie: fork leg)? Any help is appreciated.
  10. I am seeking information in regard to putting my back brake up onto the handlebars using a hand control. It was mentioned in a past post by someone who said the hand control was used for racing and by handicapped riders I believe the company was SPEIGLER?? Can anyone help me with info --as it is going to be safer if I can move the back brake and then have that room to tuck my bad foot in close and get the leg in closer too:happy34:
  11. Pretty much since day one that I got this scoot, I've noticed that it seems to want to steer to the left. If I take my hands off the grips on a flat, straightaway (and I've done this on several of them and at different positions in the lane), the bike will sart going to the left and I have to body lean (no hands remember) to the right to keep it straight. I also notice I'm constantly pulling a bit with my left hand and pushing a bit with my right (counter steering) as I feel the pressure on my hands to keep the bike on a straight line. similarly, when I take a right hand corner, it takes more counter steer pressure than it does on a left hand corner. I raised this with the dealer and they road tested it...said it was hardly noticeable and offered no explanation or cure other than to suggest my handle bars were a bit "twisted" (yeahsureright). Said because they are rubber mounted, they can get that way a bit. I chalk that up to the "pull/push" added pressure I am constantly applying to keep it going straight. Any ideas about this guys?
  12. MY '87 has a mild noise noticed when checking air in the read tire. 1st I have owned this for 20 years. This noise is new and I do hear the normal ring and pinion noise typical for 70k when spinning by hand. I have Spectro SPL 75w140 ($15/QT) in it, GREAT GEAR OIL. Along w/ the ring & pinion I hear this new noise when I spin the tire by hand, I hear a "creek" similar to an old door on your house closing or opening. Spin it fast...not noticable. Thus it cannot be heard while driving. The sound is very mild(not loud) but ODD. Any thoughts on maybe this is a wheel bearing or not. Yes, It makes this noise in both directions of rotaion. One way a bit more noticable that the other. The wheel shows no side play. I also have a new u-joint in it and the noise is clearly from the rear wheel area. My mechanics stethoscope says so. And no vibes can be felt while spinning by hand. Any input is helpful.
  13. I recently added this information to the tech library. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=355001#post355001]Thermostat Cross Reference - VentureRider.Org[/ame] I was later asked if these thermostats would also work in the second gen. I guess I could look up part numbers and etc. and try to figure it out but does anybody know right off hand if the first gen and second gen thermostats are the same?

  15. Every guy should have one of these, got to hand it to the Brit's. Ian [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C-Bxifv2Pk&fmt=18]YouTube - BMW F800S Garage Door Opener www.vet.co.uk[/ame]
  16. Greetings... Brown, or is that supposed to be 'Gold'... Owned by the store "Motorcycle Accessories" on I-70b, right next to the bowling alley. The plastic is pretty torn up - The PO obviously hurt his left knee - nothing really missing but every peg on the side covers (held on by zip ties.) Radio works and sounds good, even though the antenna is missing. Still has the lower scoop (with screens) and original screws, that and the front fender are just about the ONLY pieces of tupperware NOT split, cracked or missing chunks...Currently there are two inches of water in the rear luggage box - the passenger radio/cb hand unit is actually in the right hand saddle bag Though the salesman didn't seem to know what it actually was! Mirror's are good, obviously been replaced - She's been down on both sides more than once, and the mirrors are the first to go in those kinds of drops. There is a split in the dash plastic that would leak humidity onto the speedo in a rain. How do you split the dash board plastic that way? She had about 49K on the dial - but that can't be trusted. Has a rather newish looking "Grey" V-bag on the right hand passenger spot - but both front driver V-bags are gone - the right side still has the snap intact. The fairing upper decks are missing plastic at the points where the metal latch attached for the bags - so they probably got ripped off by knee impact. That's the story the cracks tell on the fairing lowers anyway... When asked if the cruise worked - I got the "I don't know - But probably not" questioning (it's got cruise control!?)look that a semi-honest salesman who trying not to lie to someone who seems to actual knows what the heck he's looking at uses... Asked him to fire her up. She started rather slow, took three tries (my 89 ignites instantly - even in the winter - so it needs some work), after I told him to wait a sec for the fuel pump to STOP pumping fuel to the carbs, she fired fine - Starter was nice and strong - though it needs a new battery, once she fired up, she idled really sweet without needing any choke (carbs are in sync - the mechanics have obviously spent some time getting her running), and reved quickly and strong. Didn't test drive, as the seat was mostly just yellowed foam - the sun and armor-all had split just about every surface of seat, back and arm rests. Not one square inch of leather/pleather remaining - anywhere - not even on the backrest! Armor-all + sun = destruction... The mufflers sounded like they had at least another 5000 miles left in them - didn't hear any loose baffles rattling, and didn't sound they had been removed. She was nice and silent at idle and rev. There's an extra brake light on the travel compartment, and the vanity mirror is actually still there and in pristine condition!! The side bags are non-cracked, and still have the original foam bottoms. Unfortunately - the 2 inches of rain water in the rear travel compartment have really rusted the bottom left set of screws and nuts. However - the fact that the water is still actually there - leads me to conclude that the rear compartment isn't all cracked up, all the locks work and all hinges are in excellent condition... They were asking $2700. I asked him if they were firm on that - his reply was I'll get 3 times that If it sits here all summer then I part it out on Ebay... So it's obviously priced to NOT sell. I told him that that's about $1700 over priced - he just smiled - so I got the impression that that's what they probably paid for it and the hours put into it in labor and parts... All in all, I'd scrape together - Maybe $1500 for her - even IF I ended up parting her out. But the engine sounds good - My guess is she's probably got at least 50k left on her clock before a major rebuild if you kept up on her maintainence.
  17. I am sorry if this is in the wrong place. First post. My throttle hand is turning numb after only 15-20 minutes from the vibration through the grips. Am I doing something wrong or do I need gel gloves or what? Thanks for any help.
  18. just got back from the final run to the hub, to tie up the loose ends. shared a room with la pryor, so we got the first hand scoop on the accommodations. the room was nice and large and had a refrigerator, microwave, coffeepot, kingsize bed ( i had a room with single bed). i ate lunch and dinner there and my meals were great. had a slight malfunction at dinner on the service but they took care of it. randal and his wife, the owners bent over backwards to make our stay a-1. hit alot of rain going down, and out ran the rain coming home. the ambassador recruited some new venture riders. all in all it was a great time, and we got to see buddy's new wing first hand. really nice. i think the 09 rally is going to be a great success. looking forward to seeing everyone there. bill
  19. Well after the new master cylinder and new slave ,which ironically went in fairly easily, and after reverse bleeding with tutoring from Condor, my shifter on old 83 is still stuck.... Can't go up or down thru the gears with or without the clutch.. just seems stuck. Up on the centerstand, the rear wheel is free. With the clutch cover off, I can by hand turn the center. Help ......b4 this goes to the shop and get more expensive than the bike is worth. Clay
  20. I hate when my hands fall asleep during the day. It means they'll be up all night! When I ride for any length of time my throttle hand gets numb. I have standard gloves and stock grips. Is it my gloves? My grips? Is it physical? I don't think I grip too tight. It's only my right hand. Any thoughts?
  21. First off thanks to randy and laura for meeting us for supper in bristol on Good Friday. We had a nice evening with friends.Ramona and I meet with a log home mfg and viewed our dream retirement home.We were very impressed with the quality and hand hewn work.I called one of my banks up and was surprised that they financed new construction building with land. Now the hard part. I have thought all week while on vacation about all the reasons I should not do this (recession, job security, and being 50 years old with a mortgage starting). On the other hand (interest rates are low,we want to move, and besides our property is a good investment and a new home will grow in value).I don't know of any more prime real estate being mfg.People are building on the hillsides now and where ever they can find land.I thought about saving enough money to put a shell up under roof then finishing it little by little with cash but that would take about 10 years. I would have less time to enjoy it and my 10 year old son wouldn't get a chance to grow up there and enjoy fishing, swimming, the ball field, and all the other things lake front property has to offer.I have a meeting with several contractors to put together a turn key job and we will look at those numbers.I'm sure we will be shocked at the bottom line but 20 years from now those same numbers will be like small change.I may have to sell a few assets like a first gen or two.
  22. Hi all, anyone got a spare left hand cruise control kill switch for an 84 Venture Royal for sale? My one works but one of the lugs that hold it in place has snapped?
  23. Is there anyway to reduce the tension in the clutch lever making it easier to pull? I'm starting to get arthritis in the hand and it's making it more difficult. Can't give up those long trips.
  24. Upgraded to TWO badboy air horns. I was ready for it and even I jumped when I hit the thing. I think I'll be scaring cagers into thinking they just cut off a semi truck instead of a motorcycle. I got rid of the fairing air ducting (it's useless anyways, I could not feel air from those vents even at 70 and an un-gloved hand in front of the vent.) and installed them in the space with their horns pointing down. you really have to take off the front fairing to get them in there though. but it's worth it. http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/rodi_2044_487357928
  25. I've read pretty much everything I can about the car tire on the rear of the bike. I'm willing to give it a try. Now, the question is, is there anyone in or near VA to give me a hand? I'm even willing to come to you to put it on. I've never done a tire change and would just feel more comfortable with someone that has done it.
