  1. OK....I posted long ago about a GREAT image resizer "powertool" that is the best and easiest I've ever used for quick resizing of images to post them here and in the pic gallery. Unfortunately, Microsoft did not release this tool for Windows Vista. So, I went searching for something for you Vista users and found the following program that supposedly works the same way. Now I haven't tested this because I don't use Vista but some of you who do might want to give it a try and report back. Note: I removed the original link to this program because I am now getting an "attack site" warning from there. Here is another that I found though that works exactly the same as the XP version of the image resizer. http://sourceforge.net/projects/phototoysclone/
  2. I have the right anti-dive valve on th front fork that started leaking at the weep hole. Does anyone know how to fix or where to get one as I found none on e-bay. I have replaced the o-rings and that didnt fix problem.
  3. I was in the process of overhauling the carbs on my 86... I had thown in a heavy dose of SeaFoam and shortly thereafter it started really acting up... but mainly #1 cylinder was really not wanting to fire. I had drained the bowls and took a week or so to get back to them and then broke them apart and opened up #1... and when the fuel bowl cover came of... look what I found in the bottom... http://bergall.org/temp/venture/carb-rust.jpg Yep, that BROWN stuff is rust. Everybody put down your hands... it wasn't the tank. It was from the fuel overflow pipe. Just above the bevel at the top of the picture, the inside of the overflow was coated in rust. #2, #3 and #4 look fine, dull but clean. That tiny idle jet (37.5) looked opaque on all four... rather a light brown, but almost clear... when I tried to blow through them, it didn't work. Seems part of the problem was easy to solve. I also found the enricher diaphragm on #1 had RUST. Now it's the right rear so I thought it would more protected from the elements but that's what I found... It may be a rare case of "Mike gets the good one"... but it's an easy check for you guys that get that filter housing off to pull the overflow lines and look inside! And of course, mine had four totally different lengths of overflow hose... come on... put your hands down... the front carbs take ONE length and the back carbs take ONE length... I have four separates... and one (by golly) seemed to be the right length... the others were varying degrees of too short. And yeah, #1 was the shortest. My day for weird I guess. Nromally I would just soak the jets and bodies in cleaner and then use carb cleaner to blow them out. This time I called around and found a "speed shop" that would ultrasonic clean them and the jets for $20. And believe me... it's a world of difference. What looked like a human hair opening in the tiny jet now looks like you can fit three and everything is CLEAN. Strangely the bath didn't get rid of some of the aluminum oxide where the rack bolts go but everything else was sparkling. The regular motorcycle shops wanted $80-$150 for the bath and blowout... shop around.
  4. never mind, I Found it.
  5. High all, I'm looking hard at a new 08 Charcoal/Silver Venture S. The out the door price is $15689.96. Is this a good price or do you think I can get the deal down some more? I don't want to push too hard cause I've only found two in the state and the same dealer has both. Any input is apprecieated.
  6. Something for the Kids..... Found HERE
  7. We just bumped into a happy yank at the bus stop coming back from the pub. She'd been celebrating a successful rebellion a couple of hundred years ago or so. Apparently it's a national holiday over her side of the pond, but she found it a bit odd celebrating it here in London/the UK. There's no accounting for some folks, but if you're that way inclined, I hope you've had/are having a nice day .
  8. Is there a way to access the pilot jets without removing the carbs? I'd like to try richening them up one notch. I was also going to raise the jet needles up and found that there were no adjustment grooves. Do you use washer type shims, or do you need different needles? Thanks, Gary
  9. Regarding purchasing a Zumo 550, I found this on the net. Price is the lowest I have ever found http://www.86photovideo.com/products.asp?product_id=18765 But sometimes, best price may not be the best deal. Just wondering if anyone has good/bad experience with these quys. Cheers
  10. has anyone found bubs sleepers for less than here? http://monkeybuttparts.com/pk4/store.pl?view_product=2719
  11. Well folks, as I posted a while back, my '99 RSV has just not been running right. Not only had fuel mileage really gone down last year but this year it also just didn't seem to have the get up and go that it once did. I have really been fighting with this trying to figure out the problem. Last weekend I decided to sync the carbs again and noticed that when I pulled the vacuum caps off to connect the Carbtune, the engine would also die when I pulled the caps off cylinder 1,2 and 4. One at a time of course. When I pulled the cap off number 3, it made no difference. So I decided that cylinder 3 was probably not firing correctly or at all. I changed the plug and it made no difference. I then removed my Dyna3000 and installed the old TCI again. That made no difference either so I re-installed the Dyna. I had bought a spare set of coils off Ebay last fall so went ahead and changed out the number 3 coil. That made a huge difference. It appeared to be firing after that. I could pull the vacuum caps off any cylinder and it would no longer try to die. So even though the coil ohms out OK according to the manual (well actually I found a mistake in the manual on testing the coils but I'll do another writeup on that), it appears to have a problem under load. So I took it for a ride and found that it runs better and idles better but guess what? Something was still not right. I could feel that it still didn't have the power that it once did and confirmed it by opening her up on a back road and 90 MPH was the absolute top speed. No good at all. I also noted a surging when I tried accelerating hard. Not really a miss or cutting out just surge then flat then surge again. I took it back home and put a new set of plugs in it but still no good. When I got home last night, I decided to use the clear tube method to check the float levels with the carbs on the bike. I found that I could not do that due to the fact that the last dummy who had the carbs off had put the float bowl covers on the wrong carbs, front to back, so that I could not get to the drain screws. (that dummy would be me last fall). So I ended up pulling the carbs again. Checked the float levels and found one to be a little high but not all that bad. I set them correctly, put the covers on the proper carbs this time and re-installed the carbs on the bike. The hardest part about this job for me is getting the rubber boots from the air box properly seated and tightened on the top of the carbs. I actually wonder now if I did not have one of them seated good and it was sucking air there. I made sure that I had them seated good this time. So, I fired her up and took a little ride. I knew immediately that my bike was back. Acceleration was strong again the way I knew it should be. I found an open stretch of road and hammered it. I took her to 110 MPH in 4th gear and she kept climbing when I hit 5th. Man it felt good to have her running right again. I backed off around 112 as I was out of good road. Note that I have my speedometer corrected with a Speedohealer so my speeds are accurate. So, all is good again. I'm not 100% sure what exactly corrected the problem. I feel that the coil was bad. I also know that one float was a little high. I suspect that I was sucking air at the top of at least one of the carbs. All I know is that it FINALLY runs like it should again. It will be interesting to see what my gas mileage does now. I'm anxious to fill it up and find out. Will report back. I have to believe that it will be back to normal now. I was also having a problem with some fume smells that were really bothering Eileen. I'm hopeful that will be resolved also.
  12. I found this oil at O'Reilly Auto Parts for $7.49a quart, which is a excellent price. At least $2 cheaper than I have found it any where else. http://www.oreillyauto.com/EW3/ProductDetail.do?id=1766710628&line=MOB&itemNumber=1-10-40&toolsAccMoreIndex=1&didSearchFor=Mobil&bid=1214068590007&cycleCount=2448&currentPage=0
  13. I recently bought an '04 Midnight RSV. It has the small nubs on the side of the passenger backrest. My wife wants the backrest that has the arm rests which stick out about 6-8 inches. I've seen photos, but haven't found it for sale on www.starmotorcycles.com and haven't found any info on it in this forum, so please help me learn where to purchase it and what it is called. I have attempted to attach photos of other's bikes with the two different styles that I am trying to describe. What I want (studded): http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/IMG_0486.jpg What I have: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/IMG_0478.jpg Please reply if you can help. 15. I have a prescription change coming up and will probably get new lenses and frames. What particular motorcycle factors in choosing eye glasses have others found important? I am thinking of such things as tinting, shape of the frames, or the temple pieces. Iowa Guy
  16. Went to the local dealer to cancel an order today and my friend that works the parts counter told me to hang on while he finished a phone call. After he hangs up, he heads "out back" and returns with an armful of Ventureline goodies. Says they found 'em while doing inventory or something. All NOS in original packaging. Picked up the batch for a shade over 100 bucks....no extra charge for the dust. Once in awhile it pays to shop locally. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u257/Dexx-gs/DSCF1064.jpg
  17. Check out my Frogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1st set. Look real CLOSE.:rotf:My Daughter found these for Us. Second set when Venture finds a Frog. Frog Wrangler.
  18. What is the diameter of the headpipe where the muffler fits over? thought someone might readily know this without me having to tear mine completely apart to measure it. found some aftermarket mufflers I am thinking about trying out. Thanks Craig
  19. Just found out, if one of your shift pins in the end of the shift cam come all the way out, and you can't find it in the oil pan or any other easy place, check the filter screen for the oil pump intake!!! Mine came out in Cincy, couldn't shift to 4th, finally tore it apart and finally found it in the screen! I'll make sure those tabs are bent over good before I put it back together, for sure!! Oh well, back to the bike. Dan
  20. I want to know if a 1986 venture 1300cc engine can go in a 1984 venture 1200cc bike. I found one for a great price, and thinking of getting it as a back up engine. Thanks
  21. i have searched sites and found how to drill out the 99 and newer ventures. i was gunna try that but thanks to another member on the forum{sorry i dont remember the name} i found that it is not possible to do it like i have seen. i have a 1984 venture with the cones on the end. the pic i saw on the others didnt have the pipe stick out so i guess it didnt have cones. so i would like to know the best way to do this. thanks very much
  22. Check it out here. Found this while browsing GovDeals. Thought someone might be interested.
  23. I think I may have a hole in one of the pipes on the rear header so I need to take it out to take a look. What's the easiest way to remove it? I have removed the collector but didn't want to start needlessly disassembling the top half of the bike before checking to see if someone found an easy way to get it out. I have checked the manual and the site but haven't ran across anything yet. Thanks for the help.
  24. Found this on Bobz Bikz web site; http://bobzbikz.com/webtemplate.aspx?iid=308018

    Intro

Greetings one & all, My name is Dan Bollacker. I live in Denver (Littleton) Colorado. I rode in the late 60's until the early 80's. Sold the bikes to raise the fam. Kids are on their own now. In 2004 I got back on a new 1300 VTX which I accessorized quite heavily. Last year I found this site while doing research on bikes that would be more comfortable especially over longer distances. Last year at "Thunder Mountain" (rally at Loveland, CO) I test rode all the brands. Later when Victory came to town with their road show, I drove one. In my opinion the RSV came out on top for all the same reasons mentioned on this site. I had to have blue. Tried to buy a new 07 last September but the bank & could not get close enough. I was bummed. Kind of gave up. I was not all that displeased with the VTX. The flame rekindled after the first of the year. I would check around from time to time. Found a used 07 with 5000 miles in Florence, CO. Where the heck is that. To my surprize I discovered this cool dealership in this small rural community about 100 miles southwest of Denver. They pride themselves on their customer service. They are THAT good. We made the deal ant the rest has been up hill all the way. This site is amazing and way beyond helpful. I've been implementing many of the things covered in this site. Thanks everyone! Especially to the fore founders whom have done all the grunt work so that us newbees have a much smoother road to travel. Hope I did'nt bore you to tears. Thanks again, Dan in Denver. 07 RSV Crystlblu
