  1. Hi All of you! Thanks for the help with this skyscraper windshield! I have opted to call the folks at Clearview and talk to them. Mainly because I can get one already assembled with a vent in it for the hot Summer, and it can be tinted and custom fit, A gray tint will look cool on my midnight. When and if I get it, I hear it takes a couple months to obtain, if any of you want the stock one, it is free, just ask, the stock bike original shield would fit someone who is maybe six foot six? I am exactly six foot and it is 4 inches too high. When I take it off and lay it in the garage or store it in the shed........there it will be 20 years from now, someone might as well have some use for it, so I will throw it up for grabs when I obtain the new one. Kit
  2. I have a 93 Venture Royale and it's very uncomfortable trying to keep my feet on the floor boards has any body moved thier shifter and foot brake forward, or do you have to redue the saddle to move your hinny backwards. Thanks
  3. I was in a foot of snow on Snowshoe Mtn today 4800 ft. Coming across Rt 15 on Pt Mtn 4000 ft the snow was 8 inches with leaves in full color on the trees. Those golden, red, and yellow leaves look neat on top of snow. Oh yea the deer were moving everywhere. No scooters to be seen. New tires on the 4 wheel drive work great. :snow2:
  4. I could not attach pictures to your message, so I will try here. I took a piece of steel tubing that was the same inside diameter as the steel wheel and used the outside diameter to determine the hole size needed in the stand foot. I put the sleeve in and welded is so it is still as strong as before. I placed it so the wheel is about 1/8th inch lower than the bottom of the foot. I then used a grade 8 bolt thru the sleeve and wheel. I can take two fingers and with minimal pressure on the side of the trunk, I can spin the bike around on smooth concrete. RandyA
  5. Just wondering what should be drained when changing oil, (please, no one say oil). What I mean is where should the oil be drained? First would be the big drain plug, next the oil filter. Doe's any one also drain the bottom bolt, (alen head) on the left hand side of the bike as you are setting on it. It is the cover farthest back , down by the foot peg. To get straight in on it you have to fold the foot peg back. It is made to allow for draining. It has a copper washer on it. I drain it each time I change oil.
  6. I was having rear wheel lockup when braking hard and couldn't figure out why. Then I read an article on the MSF webb site about an instructor that had alot of students in the advanced rider course that had floorboards, had rear wheel lockup. He found the reason why!! They were lifting up their foot and stomping the rear brake. When you do so you are using not only you calf muscle but you thigh and inertia, thats a lot of pressure. His answer is to keep you heel on the floorboards and pivot foot to the brake leaver and brake with you toe or the end of you boot. It works!!! I have been practicing that procedure and it works. Try doing it and you will build up muscle memory and you will do it in an emergency. So far I have not locked up the rear wheel when doing this. Practice, practice, practice!!!! I hope this will help everyone. tew47
  7. Just want to share this experiece with all. Coming home from work yesterday, I had an "Oh S**t!" moment. When I turned onto the freeway entrance ramp, I thought to myself, "Looks a little bit greasy." Next thing I know, I feel the rear tire sliding out as I am leaning. Out of natural reaction, without even thinking, I put my left foot out to catch myself. LUCKILY I was only going about 20mph, although it was still fast enough to kick my foot back at me. Fortunately, it was enough to keep me upright and uninjured. Going down would have been bad enough, but the moron in his pickup behind me was pretty close.
  8. As some of you may know, I am a type II diabetic, and have had a foot ulcer for around a year and a half now. Well, I found out today that my middle toe, which has been swollen for some time now, will have to be amputated. Better the toe than the whole foot. I am putting it off until fall after riding season, and am going to convert to a trike, but what I'm really wondering is what to expect, and how long will I be down. Has anyone else been thru this?? I was originally planning on turning the '85 parts bike into a trike, but am now considering triking Goldie. Hopefully I will be able to work on it this winter...
  9. Geez, I know better than this! I pulled into my driveway after a nice ride on Saturday. For some reason, I had a brain fart and tried to do a u-turn at 1 mph so that I could back the bike into the garage. Well, I thought I could do this without putting my foot down so I ended up dropping the bike. At least I was able to practice the maneuver for picking up your bike from Ride Like a Pro! Good news is that nothing was damaged.......well, except my pride!
  10. May not mean sence to most but to some means a lot. Last night we tried new machine to estim Ken and with it he made toes on right foot move so that is major progress, thanks to you all... more later.
  11. Hello, Im a new member with no more hot foot. First off, I'd like to thank ventureriders.org. I thought I would share my experience with you of my '06 RSTD. It's very disappointing when the temp. rises above 75+ degrees off the engine. I've heard other members complain about the heat. I have no problem with my right side, but the left side of my bike is bad. And I also noticed that when the fan comes on at a stop, the heat blows down on my left foot. The same thing happens down the road and it makes matters worse. To solve this problem, I thought I would install a small heat shield and see if this helps. This all was before I installed lower vents and kuryakyn foot pegs. So I decided to make a small heat shield out of stainless steel, its very light and easy to bend. First off, I pulled off the rubber foot pad and then cut it to the length of 8 inches long, and then bent it to a 90 degree angle on one side. I made it 4.5'' tall in the front, 3.5'' in the rear. It gives it a nice taper. Then I put a radius on each corner at the top. The easy way to find a center hole, take a little grease, put a dab in the center of the bolt head. Now you can set it in place, lean it towards the bolt head, and there's where to drill your pilot hole. Make the hole just large enough to fit over the groove on the linkage. If you need to, you can tweak your bend so it leans tight against the linkage. Now you can put the pad back on, and tuck it in against the shield, holding it secure. This seems to work out great for me when its warm out. Give it a try. Maybe paint it, or a different metal, or whatever works best for you. Now you can take it in, or out, whether its cold or warm outside, or for just cleaning matters. I hope this helps fellow members out. Here are some photos to explain better....(View attachments) Born trucker - Born biker Love to Drive - Live to Ride
  12. Does any one out there have a picture of the front foot peg after installed on a 2nd gen. I have seen them at a meet But did not get a pic.
  13. I lowered the front of my RSV today with the help of the post on here. Was really not that hard, just took it slow and all went well. I love how I now can flat foot the bike. I am 5'7" and was not able to flat foot the bike before this. I did not feel uncomfortable on the bike by no means, but it sure feels better now! The slow speed handling is better as stated in previous post. I am suprised at how much 1" changed the feel and handling of this bike. If anyone has any questions about the process just let me know, I will try and help however possible. SLim Jim

  16. First, thanks again to all of you for your prayers, messages of support and general well wishes. It meant quite alot knowing you guys were sending positive thoughts while I was getting the finest treatment Wheeling, WV has to offer. Its been two and a half months since the accident. I'm still at home, and still not allowed to put any weight on the leg (turns out I had 8 breaks, femur to foot). I still have some open wounds, and my foot is still the size and color of a small holiday ham. On the plus side, I am now allowed to try walking with crutches, can sit in the front seat of the car like a big boy, and I returned to playing keyboards with my band, after lowering my equipment. My one month old venture was totaled and bought by the insurance company, (at a profit!) I'm going to wait until I'm healed before getting a replacement. My girlfriend has been an angel through all of this, so while in ICU the second time, I asked her to marry me. Surprisingly, she wants me to get another cycle. So while not currently a venture owner, I plan on still being a venture rider. By the way, I have two of the Yamaha headsets, never used, that I'm offering for sale. I'll post details in the correct forum. Wishing y'all a great holiday season, Jim

    Electrical fires

If you smell smoke when behind the windshield of a 1st gen.....Consider that it's not the 18 wheeler in front of you and investigate. As a side note. If you reduce your speed to below 40 mph while 2 foot flames are shooting out of your dash, you won't burn your chin. I wonder if I would have smelled it sooner without the full face helmet on.
  19. Has any one installed a top rail to the saddle bags, I have not seen any, but need somthing to protect them as I am always draging my foot across the top of them when I get off of my bike??

    Tunnel vision

Late for a college class several years back, aboard my 99 RSV I went tearing into the parking lot, parked her, shut her down and got off, she rolled over on my left foot and to this day that baby still hurts when it's cold or damp. IT'S NEVER WISE TO LOSE AWARENESS WHEN RIDING
  21. While my wife Denise loves riding on the back of my 1st Gen she has one constant complaint: After about 50 miles her left foot falls asleep. At first I thought it was due to the position of my big riding boots on the left peg, forcing her to move her foot in an uncomfortable position on the back left board, but the same thing happens when I have my feet on the front highway boards. She usually wears a real comfortable pair of riding boots but the same problem appears when she is wearing high top sneakers. I inspected the rubber mounts of both rear boards and they seem appropriate. Has anybody heard a similar complaint or encountered a similar problem? Thanks in advance, Klaus
