  1. I have been dealing without having a job since January 2009. Finally started back to work this week as a Mechanical Design Engineer at a plant 5 miles from home. I am working in new product development, which is a nice area to be in. They make small electrical sensors for cars, appliances, water heaters & related stuff. Last job was a 55 mile commute one way, so the 5 mile drive is great . It is nice to be productive again. On the down side, my mother in law was diagnosed with terminal cancer a week ago. The cancer is so advanced , there is nothing they can do for her. She is an old Kentucky hills woman that never went to the doctor. She was taken to ER last week and diagnosed with pneumonia. They made her go to a regular doctor and he found a large mass on one of her lungs and cancer had spread to throat and lymph nodes. She has probably known that something was wrong for sometime, but never said anything. There is nothing that they can do for her. At this point they can't even drain her lungs again. They put her on morphine this afternoon. She is on a full face respirator that is doing most of her breathing for her. My wife and her brother & sisters are constantly with her at hospital. She can pass at any time now. Gary
  2. For any that may be wondering.... I'm still here, just up to my neck in doctors! Saw the neurologist and ENT this morning for test results. I have major nerve damage in my right arm, mild/moderate in my left arm/elbow. No cure for it but time and pain medicine. He isn't sure I will ever recover completely, though he won't come out and say it. So I am now just playing the waiting game. As for my head, structurally everything is in place but the ENT said I had obvious signs of head trauma. Being thrown over a Nissan Altima after being hit head on seems to cause that. I'm a fighter so I will continue on. I see the orthopedic doctor next week and may ask to go back to work. Honestly I don't know if I can handle it, but there is only one way to find out. Thanks for all your continued thoughts and prayers, they are very much appreciated! Be careful out there!!! Ben
  3. I got a great report from the doctor today. He is an orthopedic doctor who specializes with hands. He said all parts of my arms/elbows/wrists/shoulder are well on their way to recovery. My hand is numb, but that is a natural part of the recovery. Now comes some intense physical therapy which I am ready for. Praise Jesus for a great report. Thanks to all my fellow Ventureriders for their continued thoughts and prayers. I am on my way back!!!!!!!:dancefool::dancefool: Ben
  4. Here are the pictures, I hope! Sleeperhawk has been unable to post these or me as he normally does. George has been in a lot of pain today and off to the doctor again tomorrow! It was fun seeing everyone there and I had such great subjects! Ride safe, Bobbie http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanics%20April%202010%20North%20GA%20ME/
  5. I am wanting and needing to get my carbs rebuilt. This guy quoted me with new parts for about $300. This price includes taking them off the bike and putting them back on. Goes by the name of Carb Doctor or Johnny D, he is based in St Pete. Anybody in this area heard of any his work? Thanks, Ross
  6. I had surgery on my toe today. I had an ingrown toenail on both sides of the toe so i went in and the doctor killed the sides and clipped the nail. Then the nail grew out AND DOWN!!! So i went back in and he clipped it again. Same result, except this time i tried to let nature heal itself and the nail was really close to breaking on through to the other side (mind the doors referance). Well the doctor said that it was so infected that I'm lucky it didn't infect the bone, and he said that it was so deep he couldn't believe that i dealt with that much pain. He also didn't believe me that my toe wasn't numb, and he gave me 8 shots. My toe was swollen at least twice the normal level and he said he couldn't get anymore numbing agent in. It hurt quite a bit! Doctor said i can be riding again in a week BUT according to the weather, i wont be for at least awhile longer. My nail wont be growing back anytime soon, and hopefully not at all. I went in there with him thinking i was a wuss, and left with him saying i had one of the worst ingrown he'd ever seen. And he's a foot specialist!
  7. Hey all, B2Dad is having surgery Tuesday on his right hand. He has arthritis in his thumb and the doctor at Vanderbilt is inserting a tendon (from his arm) and putting it in the joint at the base of his thumb. He has been in awful pain for awhile now but finally decided to get this done. The surgery won't be too bad, outpatient, but the healing process will take awhile and doctor said it may be 8 weeks before he can ride. Will you please pray for me while he is "laid up" and can't ride? Then again, I could learn to drive the bike and take him for a ride, doncha think? As soon as the weather gets better of course... Patti
  8. It is 77F here, and not a cloud in the sky. A tad breezy, but riding without heavy gear and feeling warm is so nice. Sat on the cafe's patio, had a great burger and something hoppy. You could tell everyone was enjoying Global Warming... so many smiles, and so many short skirts. But, I had an appointment to see the doctor on my day off. 1:45PM. Just the right time to prevent a nice "there and back" ride today. I called at 12:30, because I wasn't sure if it was 1:30 or 1:45, and learned they'd set me up with the doctor I disliked. We rescheduled for Monday. So I missed a good long ride for nothing. Coulda put on 500 miles today instead of 150. Still, it's hard to complain about 150 miles in the most perfect weather you are likely to see, in January. Thanks for listening. Hope it's just as nice where you are. Dave

  10. Some knew of Peg's Mom's passing and the extra bills that hits us hard, well it hit even harder this time around. I went to the doctor feeling I had the Flu or something but he said I was a walking dead man my blood pressure was out of this world so I was rushed to the E.R. and had a lot of tubes sticking in me. They finally got me back down, they did a lot test and said my heart was in good shape and my blood count seem to be OK?. They did not know why my blood pressure was so high? They was really scared about it? . Peg was not in good shape either just loosing her Mom and now she was worried about me passing. I have to go back next week for a follow up with my Doctor. I went back to work at Wal-mart (second job) to help with the added bills and my Doctor told me that was not a good thing. May have been the cause of me going down? With all this happening and the extra bills added on, I will need to sell my bikes:( to help Pay off bills untill then I'll have to work at Wal-mart untill things get better. ? or worse? So if you know anyone looking for a nice 2003 Venture or 2001 Gold Wing give me a PM . I still have a loan on each. God Bless Buddy
  11. I had my regular checkup today with my family doctor. He was getting on to me about my weight because I had gained a couple pounds. I tried to explain about all the stress I had been under lately with Pat. He asked me if I had been exercising and I told him yes...I had been riding my bike. He looked at me and said really? I said yup! I ride my bike as often as possible. He asked how far I ride...and I said well doc...last month I rode 1200 miles in just under 24 hrs. The look on his face was priceless...and his assistant? She was in shock. I said...yes, I ride my motorcycle every chance I get. He said what kind of exercise is that? And I said...heck...I had to gas up 10 times!!! That was exercise, don't you agree? It was awhile before they stopped laughing. Then he told me to get a real bike and PEDAL! Or push the one I got....
  12. Don't know any details yet, called Doctor to see if results were in yet and they called me back and told me it's OK to go on with the back surgery. Will know more tomorrow when I go see the Doctor. So back surgery is a go for Monday. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.
  13. Hi all, I would appreciate some prayers. I posted a week or two ago about the accident I had the Friday before Labor Day. I went down on the intersate in rush hour traffic. My helmet hit the pavem, ent so hard I more than likely would have been braian dead if I hadn't had it on. Aftyer reading the accident report this past weeken I also found out that a semi truck barely missed me as I was passed out in the middle lane of the freeway. Thankfully the driver was able to brake a swerve enough to get around me. God was with me and I didn't even get a broken bone. Only some road rash, very sore muscles, etc. from which I am recovering quickly. I also mentioned they found I had some enlarged lymph nodes in my chest area when they did the CAT scan in the emergency department. I followed uip with the doctor and found out on that visit that I also have a "nodule" in my left lung. Talk about a punch in the gut. I was never a smoker. They won't say anything else until they know for sure. They have already got me into a pulmonologist tomorrow and he will be scheduling a bronchoscopy for me so they can get a biopsy of the thing to see what we are dealing with. As for the bike, I got a call last night telling me they are going to total it. I am calling the adjuster back in a few minutes to get the details. So I will be Ventureless but will still hang around if you don't mind. My wife wants an end to the biking and I am just dealing with the health issues right now. So we'll give it some time to see how we feel in the Spring. I am feeling like maybe the accident happened so I would find whatever it is that is taking up residence in my lung. I am normally not good about going to the doctor and really haven't had any clue that there I appreciate you all. Ride safe.
  14. Well after three years of troubles with both knees, I finally got to see the doctor I saw when all the problems started. He had an MRI done on the right knee and found a torn meniscus. He did surgery shortly after that. It felt good till things went south after a few weeks. It never got better. In the mean time my left knee started killing me again too. Another doctor, (thanks to workman's comp), had an MRI done on that one and said there was a degenerating meniscus, and there was nothing he could do about it. Now after all this time I was ale to see the original doctor. He looked at the MRI done by the other doctor and said it looks there was a tear in the meniscus all along. He ordered a rescan on both knees. In a way, I'll be pi$$ed if I find out that the left knee was torn all along, but then I'll be glad if it can be fixed. After the last three years, and this summer, I'll have about enough of the doctors! I had a mammogram, (or is that a maogram), a few weeks ago. Luckily no cancer. Just a very tender, large, lump in my right breast. Tomorrow I get another MRI. This time on both knees. Who knows what that will lead to. More arguing with workman's comp I'm sure. Then on the 22nd I get to have surgery on my sinuses. Maybe after 38 years, I can finally breath through my nose and smell like a normal person.
  15. These are from a book called 'Disorder in the American Courts' and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place. ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: And in what ways does it affect your memory? WITNESS: I forget. ATTORNEY: You forget? Can you give us an example of something you forgot? ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning? WITNESS: Did you actually pass the bar exam? _________________________ ___________ ATTORNEY: The youngest son, the twenty-year-old, how old is he? WITNESS: He's twenty, much like your IQ. ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Were you present when your picture was taken? WITNESS: Are you ****ting me? _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: And what were you doing at that time? WITNESS: getting laid ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: She had three children, right? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: How many were boys? WITNESS: None. ATTORNEY: Were there any girls? W ITNESS : Your Honor, I think I need a different attorney. Can I get a new attorney? ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY:How was your 1st marriage terminated? WITNESS : By death. WITNESS: No, this is how I dress when I go to work. ______________________________________ ATTORNEY: Doctor, how many of your autopsies have you performed on dead people? WITNESS: All of them. The live ones put up too much of a fight. _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did you go to? WITNESS: Oral. _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body? WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m. ATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time? WITNESS: If not, he was by the time I finished. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample? WITNESS: Are you qualified to ask that question? ______________________________________ And the best for last: ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor? WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar. ATTORNEY: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless? WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.
  16. Well most of you that know me, Knows I put 110% in my work. That is with two full time jobs which at one time I had a third part time job as well. Any way Peg kept telling me I'm not as young as I used to be. But I still give it my all... Anyway last Thursday I started feeling bad in my chest and head area but I kept on working both jobs at full speed, each day seemed a little harder for me to get my work done. Saturday I was running 103 temp but kept on going hard at my work. fever finally broke Monday night but this morning I could not speak good could not breath and could not stand much either . So Peg took me to the Doctor sure enough I had the dang Pneumonia again. I know if I listen to her I would have not be in this spot again. My Doctor said I had the Pneumonia same time last year by their records. So I'm sitting hear at home playing on the computer coughing my head off and talking to the hotel & motel folks in Ark. doing some up dates on our Reservations list for the Rally this year. So next time Peg tells me something I'll listen... MAYBE Buddy
  17. Coming back from a Patriot Guard Troop Welcome Home Mission. I was on I-95 cruising at a steady 70mph. Traffic was light. Road dry.Overcast sky. Crotch rocket coming up FAST in my rear views and the rider passed me doing at least 80mph. Further up the road, and within my view, he decided to do a wheelie! He looked good until the front tire came down...... I have never seen so many motorcycle parts scattered on a highway to that extent.....I'm glad that I was in the right hand lane and able to avoid the mess! By the time I pulled over to assist several other folks had done so.One of them was a Doctor on his way to work. It did NOT look good for the Rider of that bike I tell you. I have to wonder just what would motivate someone to pull a stunt like that at 80+ mph and not realize the consequences if all did not go as planned.
  18. Well it's been 4 1/2 weeks since my surgery to stop the bleeding and remove the excess blood from my brain. I am still doing great. No symptoms of any kind. I was expecting some dizziness but it never came to be. Of course I have been doing exactly what the doctor instructed which is absolutely NOTHING. (Of course I did take the Nomad down the street a couple of times just to get it warmed up). I go back to the doctor tomorrow and hopefully he will let me start driving a little. I am getting VERY bored and hate depending on others for transportation. But I will follow whatever instructions he has. He was gracious enough to save my life, so I should honor him by behaving:innocent:. Thanks again to everyone for thier thoughts and prayers. Hope to be riding and see you soon.
  19. As some of you are aware, my wife had surgery yesterday and I am happy to report that all went well. First it was a bit of a struggle just finding a room. She had to stay in the recovery room a while longer than planned and would not let me visit her. Then they were suppose to get me on the way by the waiting room but they did not, and told my wife that I went home. She was ticked that I had left but in fact I was not. Finally I made it to her room, to find out she is in a recently converted recovery room that was made into a ward. (our coverage is for a Private but there is none available nor a semi private available). This room has no phone hook-ups, or TV's, so add this to the frustrations. Anyway it was a struggle at first, but I am happy to say she is recovering much better. Started out slow, and each time I left and came back she was better. Hoping that she can come home tomorrow, but Doctor says depends on if she can do the things on his short list. When I went back tonight after supper with the girls it was a major improvement. Doctor said all is well and she should be back at work in 8 weeks. I feel she is a very strong and brave women and I am very happy to report all things went well, now we have to wait out the healing. For those who were aware and sent me a PM (or Email) thank-you very much, it is appreciated. Brad
