  1. I have put this off for years, but it has finally caught up with me. I damaged the disk in my back, C-5 and C-6 about 25 years ago, they told me then that it would eventually make my left arm start hurting then go numb. well 2 weeks ago its happen. I was just ridding along and wham felt like an electric shock went down my arm then came the pain and I do mean pain, after about 7 days it was just numb. Anyway ended up at the neuro-surgeon in Macon ga, He is going to fuse both disc sites on the 27th. They say its a simple proceedure and I won't be out very long, about 10 to 14 days. I did go to biketoberfest though, last thru and friday. Gregg:shock3:
  2. VIVA CHILEAN COAL MINERS!!!!!!!!!! ********************** Can you imagine that for the initial 17 days...they sat, alone, and deliberated on whether anyone above would EVER discover them????
  3. Smashing my fingers with a hammer. I been laying shingles on the new scoot roof at the camp. Not much to look at and still plenty to do but it will hold 2 or 3 scoots this winter. I took 3 days off from work and it rained 2 of those days. We planned a ride Wednesday up in the mountains but ended up caging it. It rained and was 38 degrees on Dolly Sods. Think I might ride tomorrow and work on shed next Saturday.
  4. We are heading out next Friday for Port Canaveral, Florida for a Disney Curise:cool10: We will be driving and leaving our vehicle in the cruise terminal parking. My question is to those of you that conceal carry. What do you do with your weapon in a situation like this. Can't take it on the ship, but I'm a little concerned about locking it in the vehicle for 6 days. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,
  5. Dave and Kathy: Thanks so much for the "gifts" from Texas! These will give us some instant memories as we walk throughout the house doing odds and ends and whatever else we all do in a house! I know we'll be back one of these days! gunk and the teach:smile5:
  6. Just made it home from our trip to Yellowstone, weather was great except for thursdays rain in Iowa. We spent a couple of days in Durango Colorado then went on up through Utah into Jackson Hole Wy. The park was beautiful and we saw lots of wildlife, finally got to ride Chief Joseph and Beartooth Pass. The Bighorn Mountains and the Badlands of South Dakota. Met another Venturerider from California at a Hotel in Grand Junction Co. We had to stop in Omaha Nebraska and have another new rear tire installed. The folks a Dillon Brothers Powersports were great and got us in and out of the shop in about 90 minutes, they even did a quick wash on the bike at no charge while it was there. We rode 5190 miles in 16 days and had the time of our lives! Most of the time in Yellowstone was about 72 degrees during the day. We also got to see Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse monuments. Now we will start planning our next trip out west, there is so much more that I would have loved to have seen, especially in Utah and Montana.
  7. Hey folks, Linda and I got home last Saturday and besides burning out a stator and blowing my Works shock on the 4th day getting to Reno, getting hit by a deer going into the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and getting a flat going into the South Rim, we had a great time for eighteen days and 5,500 miles. This was a group ride with my local riding group (where Don was once one of us) and the main ride was to do a 6 day of a tour of Northern California, set up by one of the local motorcycle touring companies. One of our guys found this company and talked them into selected the routes and providing the accomodations for the 6 days (we didn't need a guide). It first started out as a group flying to Reno and renting bikes, but ended up with 5 of us taking 4 days to ride to Reno and flying the wives into Reno. One of the couples did fly and rent a bike while 2 transported their bikes to Reno and flew in and then rode back with Linda and I on a 5 day trip. So it was a guys (5 bikes) 4 day ride to Reno: Dallas to Roswell, NM, to Pinetop, AZ, to Barstow, CA, to Reno, NV. I chose this route to check out SR-260 across central Arizona from Springerville to Camp Verde. Then it was 6 days (9 bikes) traveling in Northern California: Reno to Red Bluff, CA, to Ft Bragg, to Napa, to Oakhurst (Yosemite), to Sonora, to Reno. The last day, Linda and I beat it back to Reno where I had an appointment at the Yamaha shop to replace my stator and install a used shock (to get us home). When we left Reno Sunday, many of the wives flew back while Linda and another wife rode back to Texas with 5 other single bikes (7 total). I planned a route back to take as many National Parks and interesting roads as possible and make it back home in 5 days: Reno to Cedar City, UT, Bryce Canyon, had to skip Zion because of road construction, Jacob Lake and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, South Rim, Monument Valley, Durango, CO, Taos, NM, Las Vegas, NM, Tucumcari, NM and home. We were most impressed with the North Rim location and would like to go back and stay a few days? Here is the link to my pictures on Photo Bucket, where you probably won't recognize anyone out side of my wife Linda and Rex Adams (Linda was with me at Don's MD and Rex came with me last year): http://s408.photobucket.com/albums/pp162/MTATX6/2010%20Northern%20California%20from%20Rick/ Oh, I rode 6 days without a stator by removing the fuse to the headlight which also got my running lights but kept turn signals and brake lights. Then every evening, I would pull the battery and charge it up in the room. Since I had a trailer, I also bought a Black & Decker Jumper Battery which came in handy to jump start a bike (which came in handy on more than one occasion). Now Linda and I just dealt with the blown shock by riding slower than usual and picking the smoothest parts of the road, where my 1,200lb spring on the Works helped out some. More than likely this will be our last long ride of this magnitude. Since 1980 Linda and I have taken a 2 week bike vacation just about every year where we have ridden in all lower 48 states (some multiple times) 4 Canadian Provinces and we also took a group to Copper Canyon, Mexico in 2001. Next year we plan on hauling the Venture to Yellowstone (which we have been to countless times) stay and ride 3-4 days, load it up and head for Glacier for another 3-4 days of riding and then load up and go home. But we will continue to take extended rides to Arkansas, etc which are within a few hours ride. Gotta love this continent of ours, Rick
  8. Well the Ultimate seats are in and install. Well take it out for the first ride in the morning if they ride half as good as they look it will be great. Boy it only took 4 days from order to get here. I had a set on the R* and loved them.
  9. MY 2009 RSV had a fuel smell even when gas was shut off for hours after it was shutdown. Should it take the dealer over two weeks to get parts to fix this? he said 3 to 5 days for a carb gasket?
  10. Been in the LA area for a few days , just wondering if there is any members in the area.
  11. Ok, we are down to 16 days till we leave for Yellowstone. Got the oil changed, final drive oil changed, clutch upgrade done, new clearview shield just got here today, Butler seat mod is done, new Avon on rear, the wiring harness for the Bushtec just came in and should be installed this weekend, early next week a buddy of mine will help change the brake and clutch fluid. Am I missing anything that should have been done?
  12. Your doin it bakwards again!!!:rotf: VR.org Maintenance Day's....Ride 'em in, Push 'em out
  13. Anybody been there? Wife and I are going to Milwaukee in about 10 days. Thought about going to the HD museum.
  14. Well lets get this started no sense in me being the only one that is excited that the contract is almost over.as of this morning I have 42 more days till I get to Kuwait and then it will be 1 or 2 to get back to Mini. I am not planning on doing anything non Mini related for at least 30 days so if ya want to see me then ya need to make sure she is going to be there. Margaret has been real good about this over seas trip of mine (the paychecks are helping) I know she is really looking forward to me being home to fix a few things and so that she will have someone to talk to. Thanks to all of you that have put up with her while I am over here in the sand box I really appreciate it. Who wants to go Riding I am looking forward to getting some good riding and good food into me as long a Mini is up for it I am sure that the miles will rack up on the bike. See yall soon Jeff
  15. Getting my PC upgraded so ill be off the grid for a few days. I know, I know. A day without me is like a day without eating ice cream.....play nice!!!
  16. Looks like we will finally be making the trip to Yellowstone and beyond in about six weeks! I know that it will be a little late in the year for some of the places that we want to see but it is just not possible for me to take off in the middle of the summer for that long. I would like to see if anyone who has made this trip can reccommend any must see places along the way. Neither one of us has ever been out that far and we would like to see and do as much as possible while there. We will be leaving here on the 17th of september and planning to be back on the 2nd of october. Hope to be able to go all the way up to Glacier Natl Park then head on back. If the weather doesn't cooperate we may have to alter those plans. Will probably run a couple of long days at first to try and get at least into Colorado then we will sort of play it by ear, if we find a place where we would like to spend a couple of days I don' want to be on such a tight schedule that it would be difficult. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Murph
  17. Yep that was me and LIL SCHITT (Spelled wrong to keep it clean) On I-75 north bound. we were following a White toy hauler, also Venture riders. Except my wife didn't have enough time off to ride all the way up north. this is were we stopped, and hung out for a few days
  18. The wife and I on separate bikes did 1200+ miles round trip for Star Days this year. Our first Star Days and we had a great time. Lots of nice people, the event was well organized, although the banquet ran WAY long and we left early to get a good spot by the pool for late night talk. We did some exploring on Wednesday and went up Signal Mountain. All the fun roads of Lookout mountain without all the tourist traffic. Went up Route 8/127, and that was fun, but the GPS found what the locals call the "W's". Actually called W road. Look it up on Google. All the thrills of the Dragon without the crazy crotch rockets, but a lot shorter. Sticky Fingers BBQ got our vote for best food of the trip, the dry rub ribs were the best I have ever had. The Tennessee Railroad Museum was a fun time, the short train ride includes a lot of history and you can run around the train, hang out on the very back of the cars outside or stick your head out the window without getting yelled at! Just don't hang out too far through the tunnel, only 15" of clearance! Best $15 we spent on the vacation. Highly recommended. Others in our group enjoyed the aquarium, and several went to the actual Dragon. Only downside was it was HOT HOT HOT. but then it is the South in July, what do you expect? We found the locals to be helpful and friendly, and plan to visit Chattanooga again soon, maybe outside of the main tourist season and when it is cooler! Hope everyone made it there and back OK.
  19. Who will be at Star Days this year 2010 Chattanooga Tennessee? Diane and I will be there, were staying at the Cho-Chooooooo:sun: Check out the Star Days 2010 calendar. http://venturerider.org/forum/calendar. Star Days http://www.startouring.org/ http://www.stardays.org/
  20. Two days until I start my week of traveling down through NC. First stop is in Nags head for 2 days. Making our way to the Iron Horse Lodge to ride the Tail of the Dragon. Finish the trip by going up through WV via Charleston. 7 days and hopefully about 2,000 miles of great riding.
  21. Peggy and I are just back from a five-day vacation in Townsend, Tn. Went up just to ride the mountains for a few days. Had some very heavy rain for two days but the sun did come out eventually for the afternoon hours and we got in plenty of riding. We rode through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Lots of tourists even midweek. It is beautiful beyond words there, even in bad weather and the pictures do not do it justice. Had some slight issues with the trailer that had to be resolved. Fortunately, it fits through the door so it spent several nights in the hotel room with us!! Rode home today through the park to Cherokee and lots of back roads most of the way. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
  22. Talked the hubby into heading out Thursday morning to Spearfish, Deadwood area for 5 days for a cheap trip! Going to tent it as the trip with the boys to Kentucky a couple weeks ago cost an arm and a leg!! Takes a day to get out there and a day to get home, so we'll have 3 whole days to hit Needles, Hewlett, Spearfish, Nemo, etc!!! Can't wait! We stayed at a great campground last time we were out there. The nice thing is they have a great bar/restraunt on site so when your done riding for the day you can cool down and just walk to your tent/cabin/rv!! I'll post pix when we get back!!:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool:YeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaa!!!!
  23. Arrived back form our eastern tour yesterday at noon, yesterday. Round trip was 5829 Km's. I used 397 litres pulling a trailer about 34.5 mpg. Deb used 322 litres approx. 42.5 mpg. We hit about 4 days of rain and it was very cold around Gaspe' and the Cabot Trail but we enjoyed ourselves. Camped when it was nice. Here's a few picks.
  24. OK folks, the last of you finally left my house on Monday after maintenance day. I had to immediately head to Cincinnati for business and was there until Saturday evening. I was home Sunday and then had to leave again early yesterday morning on another business trip. So the net result is that I have been home for only ONE day since all of you left. While I was home Sunday, I was busy putty away the concrete blocks (benches), chairs, etc. from Maintenance Day. Changed the oil in my wife's Sorento, installed some window vent visors on it, paid bills, did all my company expense and call reports for the week, ordered some parts for the lawn mower, various other things that HAD to get done. So, I'm out of town again this week and then on Saturday, Eileen,, Dylan and I are leaving for a long neglected vacation. We still have a LOT of family in Texas so we are going to head that way for a couple of weeks. First to the East Texas area and then on to Dallas for a few days. Sorry, there will just be no time for visiting our VentureRider friends while we are there. We are going to be slammed for time just trying to see family that we haven't seen in close to 10 years. Now as many of you know, I have the forum setup so that I get emailed every post made here. That is usually several hundred emails per day. There are likely going to be several days that I will not have email access and the number of emails building up is going to be tremendous so I am probably going to turn off the emailing of posts while I am gone. What this means is that if you post something that is specifically directed at me, I may well miss it. If you have something important that I really need to address, you will probably want to send me a PM about it. That way I will be sure to see it, though it may be a few days before you get a response. To be honest, I'm not really looking forward to this vacation. I am excited to see family that I have not seen in several years but trying to get around to all of them is going to be hectic and not very restful. It is time to make the effort though.
  25. I have a set of stinger bass blockers for sale $15 to your door. Used 2 days.
