  1. Looks like the bike show is Jan 30-Feb 1. Is anyone planning to be at the show. Don't have the money to spend but it is always fun to look. If anyone goes to it in DC or NY let us know if it is worth the admission and parking cost. But once the show comes spring isn't far behind (68 DAYS).
  2. We stopped by the new DQ at the 99 exit I-79. Very nice day 73 degrees with scooters everywhere.Mine is still in the shed behind high water. We have had so much rain this week my yard requires 4x4. I told MamaMo we should just sell the place build a new house and garage at the camp. Just think no more nice days and no ride. Today I think she would have done it.Someday it will come together.:fingers-crossed-emo until then it's:mytruck1: At least she bought me Ice cream still no fun waving at Harleys going by.
  3. That is 79 more days to the official first day of spring. Yesterdays 45 degree weather was a perfect mid winter brake to take the bike for a spin. Can't wait for the warm weather.
  4. I must be getting older because today I'm heading out to buy some electric clothes. 50 degrees is colder then it was 5 years ago, maybe it has something with that global heating thing people talk about these days....
  5. For those who have difficulty seeing your GPS screen on bright sunny days this may help...........My ....... http://www.glarestomper.com/
  6. Well after 3 days of Snow, and sitting in the house, and sending me to the Store. Wife just could not take it anymore, She Just had to go Shopping !!! Just got back from 6 hours of dropping her off at store after store, and sitting in the Warm Car, in parking lot reading magazines!!! An Entire Day!!! Wasted ---------- Did not get even one thing Fixed Today !!!
  7. When I joined VentureRider.Org there weren't many entries in this section. I remember posting one about my XV920 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=204070#post204070 and now I have to eat crow and pay for my big mouth (Don, $25 dollar donation will be made today): I can't just explain one case of dropsies, I have to admit to myriad cases this year. Between my two bikes, I only travelled about 13,000 miles in the states during 2008. I was only in the U.S. for a total of 3 months this year. Here is a short synopsis I did for some friends: Quote- That motorcycle that looked so new in April is/has now: been dropped 5 times resulting in a cracked saddle bag left, scratches in the saddle bag right, twisted light bar and bent fog light right, scratches in the windshield, dents and scratches in the tank, bent engine guard rail right, bent saddle bag guard rail left, deep scratch on the front fender, nicks and scratches on the rear fender, bent brake lever right, bent clutch lever left, etc. Mostly cosmetic (will buy two new saddle bags and bigger and better engine guards). covered in bug splatters, mud and blood (I tried to avoid that bird). road grime and the dust and sand of all of the lands visited west of the Mississippi. Some statistics: I rode the motorcycle everyday from Aug 14 to Sep 30 for a total of 48 days (plus two more days to DC). We collected $515,000 on the Legacy Run this year. I rode through 25 states on this trip and covered a total of 10,116 miles. The majority of those miles were on non-interstate roads and I visted or camped in more national and state parks than I care to think of. After Aug 29th (end of Convention), I held to my 5 day camping, 2 day hotel (different hotel each day) rule. Spent 3 days on a campground in Bishop, CA (due to heavy winds wih gusts up to 70 mph) and 3 days on a campground in South Dakota (base camp for rides through the Black Hills, Badlands, Custer, Spearfish Canyon, Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Devil's Tower, etc.), otherwise just overnght camping. No days off for relaxation, no long sleep ins (time to ride), no days off sick. After leaving Phoenix (4 days of 1-1/2 to 2 inch per day rains) on Aug 29th, only had two nights of rain (one was a full blown storm where I wound up sleeping in water that had gotten in the tent) up until my arrival in DC today. Unquote No 1- happened just after crossing the Hoover Dam to the Nevada side. It was dark and after midnight and I had been running before a storm since Phoenix. I stopped at the Welcome Center to look for a hotel and as I was pulling out, a bunch of side by side lights came down the parking lot side I was planning to use to go to the exit. Thinking I was going in the wrong direction, I hit too much front brake while trying to do a quick U-turn and, yep, dropped it on the right side downward on the 6% sloping parking lot. In falling off, I fell on my back and banged the back of my helmet on the asphalt. I had also watched the various videos, but with a fully packed Riggpack with toproll, tent, mat, camping gear, gas can, sleeping bag and two very full hardbags on a decline, I wasn't sure if I could get it up (add 14 hours in the saddle to that). A bunch of young adults quickly ran over from the approaching vehicles and helped me get the bike back upright. I got the right mirror back on, readjusted the brake fluid reservoir and was on my way for a full two miles when I had to make my first right turn since the accident. The right pipes dragged as I went around the corner and then fell off (right rear cylinder pipe and end pipe). I got the pipes back on but one of the two exhaust seals involved had a leak. No. 2- There were strong winds on Highway 395 between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, with gusts up to a reported 70 mph. I was riding to Mammoth Lakes when a gust of wind knocked my magnetic map case off the gas tank. I slowed down and pulled onto the shoulder and stopped. As I was trying to put the kickstand down, a sudden gust of wind knocked me over with the motorcycle and she fell on her right side, banging my head on the ground. I didn't have any gear on her, so it was a snap to use the video method to get her back up. Scratches in the right hardbag this time. No. 3- Had left "Going to the Sun" and Glacier N.P. and visited the First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park in Ulm Mt. It was already dark when I went up, so I didn't see the signs about road conditions and that the park was closed at dusk. It was a dirt road with gravel and lots of ruts and with very steep parts going to the top of the plateau. While I was up there, a storm came up quickly with high winds, lightening and thunder. I quickly put up my tent to have some shelter. It rained heavily most of the night with hail and sleet. On the next morning, I traveled down a very steep, slick and slippery hill. I managed to get down to the fairly level part and was chugging along at about 5 mph when I hit a sea of mud in a curve and went down on my right side again, banging my head on the ground. The bike was on my right ankle and I had to push it off with my left foot. I have a bad right knee and had to turn over to my left side in order to get up, leaving me coated in mud. The bike was even heavier with about 50 pounds of mud caked on it and in every crevice, but I managed to get it up in spite of the slippery conditions. If I had thought anyone would have been traveling the road, I would have waited for some help, but desperation made me get her up. The bike was covered in mud, with mud under the floorboards, in the linkage, in the engine guard, over the top of the hardbag and i was having trouble walking because of the weight of the mud hanging on my clothing and boots. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), the gas station just down the road didn't have a car wash so I couldn't ride through one. It rained afterwards though and I was able to ride through the rain and puddles. No. 4- Later as I was heading down Rt 3 towards Moore/MT, a police car came screaming past and pulled to the shoulder in front of me with flashing lights. I automatically pulled to the shoulder somewhat flustered and slid off the asphalt onto the gravel. Bike went down on the right side and I went onto my head again on the decline. The deputy and a passerby were kind enough to help me pick the bike up (imagine a biker and bike covered in mud, showing a paper tag and running straight pipes) and the right pipe had again left the bike. The deputy had been after someone else and was preparing to make a turn when I crashed and burned in front of him. He had to call his supervisor because he felt he was partially at fault for the accident. As I was making my statement with his supervisor, the deputy put my pipe back on and it held for the 4,089 miles to DC. No 5- After I left all of the good riding in South Dakota, I traveled down the side roads. I stopped to get gas at one station and one set of pumps were closed due to low gas in those tanks. I did a slow turn to the next set, failed to see the danger of the rubber bell hose and had my front tire slip out on the rubber hose like it was slick ice. Went down on my left side this time and didn't bump my head for once. Had to readjust left clutch reservoir this time so I could use the mirror. Noticed the sadle bag guard was bent, but didn't think much of it. Found out at the next gas stop that the hard bag was broken and the side piece was actually flapping in the wind. I had packing tape, so I was able to make a temporary fix. I learned it happens a lot faster than you expect and that it really pays to wear a helmet. I have to admit, I only got run off the road once this year. Here is a map of my route: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=111006677486544509451.0004590d21ce3cc7b7512&ll=41.112469,-100.546875&spn=28.397066,54.492188&z=4 Here are some pictures of my trip in 2 albums: http://s342.photobucket.com/albums/o428/gypsy_moore/USA%20Tour%202008%20Part%201/?albumview=slideshow http://s342.photobucket.com/albums/o428/gypsy_moore/USA%20Tour%202008%20Part%201/USA%20Tour%202008%20Part%202/?albumview=slideshow Ride safe and ride with God.

  9. For almost a month now, we have been running 15 to 20 degrees below normal. Our normal temp for this time of year is around 53 degrees, right now it is 33 degrees. If this keeps up, this is going to be a miserable winter. We did have a couple of days around Thanksgiving that got up to normal and did get in a couple days of short rides, but this is not fun at all. If I was riding I could fill the bike up for about $7 instead of almost $20. RandyA
  10. Hello, Everyone need help finding my wife an Jacket with amor in it. She is 5'1" tall. Looking for 3xl. Need help. Have been looking for 3 days on the net and no luck.
  11. Hey Freebird. Went down to my airline company to change the dates on my flight tickets for the Maintenance Day. Turned out that changing the dates was not a big issue with paying a small fee but the thing was that I could not get a flight back home from the US after nine days like in my earlier booking. Have to stay for twelve days. And what does that mean Don ? More riding time Don - More riding time ! Don you are a genius Now I only have to pick the right time to tell the Warden
  12. About two days a week I work in the office (engineering) so that makes me a white collar worker. Two days a week in the field service makes me a blue collar worker. Tomorrow I got a meeting about a wind generator project so I should wear green. A few of my clients are all women but I'm not wearing pink. Ramona just brought home some homeade blackberry wine and now I don't have a shirt on at all.:rotfl:
  13. Looks like the first six days of November is going to be in the low 70's. It just doesn't get any better......
  14. i thought my back was "going out", on me last friday, so i took it REAL easy, all day. Saturday morning, i just had a "BURNING sensation, across my belt line. by noon saturday, i had what felt like "high voltage electrical shocks", running down the back of my left leg. my son was home, for two days, so i had him put my monitor and keyboard, down here on the floor, so i could use them! spent the last three days, flat on my back, on the floor. TODAY, things are easing up , a little. when i walk, it feels like i'm stepping on a thousand thumb tacks, but that will soon wear off. has anyone else got a "ruined back"? now you all know why i use this little guy. just jt
  15. This Saturday, HD is bringing their Test Our Metal tour to the base here in Victoria, for the CF members and their families. I may never buy one, but I'm signing up to test ride a couple. I'm sure glad this happens a couple of days before I have to sail again. This will be my last trip before Christmas and I have a feeling it may be the last ride of the season also. It gets a little frosty outside of Victoria. Cheers
  16. I've got a 99 venture - never had any problems with the audio system 'till now. Two things showed up within days of each other. 1) the up selector on the controller quit working and scrolling down works on station selection but when I do it with something like bass, I can't go back up, then 2) a few days later the audio started to just cut out, on the radio and aux - no static at all - just gone then back. I noticed that the CB RX (receiving) indicator comes on when it cuts out and goes off when it comes back. Finally, it happens a lot under 40 mph and just occassionally above 40 (weird!). I'm gonna try disconnecting the antenna as I never use the CB anyway, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or suggestions.
  17. Eck sent these to me a few days ago and I think they are pretty cool. Some people are just very creative.
  18. This afternoon my youngest sister was in a car accident and was killed. I won't go into any more detail than that. She was single and had no children. Leaves behind my dad, my other sister, my brother and myself. Many of you here are a lot tighter with the big guy than I am these days so if you could send up a few good thoughts for our family it would be appreciated. She was my dad's little girl and he is taking it hard. Thanks everyone.
  19. I'm wondering what 99-01 ish RSV's are going for these days? Anybody know?

    Trip

Well just took my first trip on a Venture (2005) the wife on her 2005 VTX 1300, We left on Thrus evening Sept 4 from Florence Ms heading to Dogpatch Ar (worst rally I have ever been to, will not go again) but the ride thru Jasper, Ar, hwy 7, 43 and 74 were great rides, rode to Boxley Valley saw the Elk come within 100 yards of us, spent two days in that area, then headed out to Eureka Springs staying at the Iron Horse Stables (Nice Folks) very peacefully stay, rode in and around Eureka Springs a couple of days, then headed to Branson Mo, by way of hwy 86 to 65 good ride in the country, (had one of them free vacation there, sat in a 90 minute presentation) got 3 days and 2 nights free. Left out Thur heading to Hot Springs Ar for the rally by way of 65 to 7 GREAT Ride except for the 40 mile detour due to washout on hwy 7. Check the weather Thur night and decided to leave for home Friday Morning due to weather, of the 1500 mile trip we did not get wet untill 40 miles from home. The venture average 42 mpg the vtx 44 mpg, the venture was a little squirly on the curves, need to do something about it and I developed a shake on front end if you have one hand on the Handle bars and you are letting off the throttle, any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. My Wife says that skunks should be on the endangered list in Ar as many as we saw dead on the road.

    Cucciolo ?

Hi, Here is a history question for you. Has anyone ever seen or owned one of these ? Cucciolo a small engine, developed by Ducati during and shortly after WWII, that could be mounted on a bicycle [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN4BA4JPSkc]YouTube - Cucciolo Vilar[/ame]. Apparently there were two versions, the earlier T50 with exposed valve gear and M55 with the valves enclosed with little caps. I suspect my interest is with the earlier version but am interested to know about either. My dad, now 86, waxes poetic about his post war days traveling around the english country side with my late mum aboard a pair of Cuciolo powered bicycles. They had to sell them in order to afford to immigrate in the early fifties. Whenever I talk about motorcycles, I hear about these bikes and these happy days of his. I'd like to know, how rare / common are they these days ? Thanks, Brian H. Uxbridge Ont.
  24. I"ll be leaving on the 30th of this month for a 4,300 mile ride. I'm in Tuscaloosa Alabama. Me and a friend of mine are going to South Dakota to meet up with 2 more fellows. We are then riding out to Rushmore, Custer St park, Devils tower, then on over to Yellowstone for the Grand Canton, Paintspots, Old Faithful, Teton Pk and some more neat places. I can't wait to leave. We'll be gone for 8 days!! I'll let you know how it goes along with some pics when we get back. Guess I can add to my states visited map some then huh.
  25. Hurricane Fay has been an unwelcomed intruder into FL for the past week! When she came to north FL 3 days ago and shut the county down, I spent 2 very enjoyable days in my garage & completed 3 installs on my 01 red Venture that I never had the time to tackle! The rack & guards are typical but the driver's backrest was a challenge! A few weeks ago I had a Kawasaki 1600 Vulcan Nomad in my garage and was very impressed with the substantial passenger back rest (sissy bar pad). That same day I happen to check for similar items on ebay and found and bought a new/used one off an 07 Vulcan for $40.00! It feels great while sitting on it in the garage but whenever Fay decides to leave us alone I will be excited to get the RSV out on the road with the new goodies on her! Next will be the tach, xenon H4 bulb, the votage thingamajig so I can add more lighting, etc, etc :>) Having trouble uploading photos here but here are some on this link: http://ebay-misc-auctions.blogspot.com/2008/08/dads-rec-stuff.html
