  1. The screws holding on the Audio Control Head vibrated out. It's kind of hard to carry the Control Head into the parts store so, does anyone know off hand what size these are? Thanks, Mark
  2. Does anyone have a wiring harness that has cruise control they want to sell. I'm messing with my cruise control cleaning all the switches when I break the cruise control cancel switch plastic that connects to the wire harness and hold the pieces of the switch in its box. Does anyone have one they want to part with?
  3. I have no problem setting my cruise control but the moment I slightly touch the throttle it will disengage. I would assume its not normal. I read through some posts but didn't see anything??????? Screaming Red:doh:
  4. As part of trying to figure out my silly radio problem I purchased a radio control unit (the head on the handlebars) for my RSV and I ended up needing to replace the radio unit itself. So I have a control if anyone needs it - I'll put it in the classfides later when I have pictures and a video of it working (I just need to get them off of my camera, which is at the house right now). I bought it from Pinwall on ebay for ~200+S&H. It works fine, I plugged it in and it works just like it did in their pictures/videos. It was off of a 2005 RSV with 40k. I'm looking to recover most of my expense, but since it is not straight from them I'll take a little less than the $200 and I'll cover shipping (within the US). Let me know if you need one and we can settle on a fair price. I'm going to hang on to it for a while (before I put it up on fleabay) just in case I need to replace the one on my bike too, but for now, I'll hang on to it unless someone on here needs one.
  5. Does anyone know if you can test the cruise control wires and various switches through the socket that plugs into the the crusie control brain. Using either a voltmeter or 12 volt test light?
  6. Get loaded up and backed out of the garage, fire up the bike, go to turn the radio on - just like I do every morning, and I get nothing. Turn the handlebars all the way in both directions, turn the bike off and back on (Don't know why, but for some reason this helped before I reseated the plugs a few weeks ago) and still no radio (or CB). I take off for the office anyways, figuring it is no big deal and I will figure it out later. About 5 or 10 minutes or so while riding the radio turns on all by itself. I have full control over everything on the unit. Another few minutes later and the radio still plays but there is no control (cannot use the up/down arrows, adjust the volume, turn the CB on or off, any function at all with the 'select' button and cannot turn the radio off). For the rest of the ride in I regain and loose control over the radio head; (at this point I am just trying to turn it off). During the stints while the radio was on it would go in and out (meaning I would have the radio signal, then only static). I finally park the bike, radio still being funny turn off the bike, dismount and lock the forks. upon getting my briefcase out I see that the radio head is still on (no sound, but the radio still reads the station I was on). I try pushing buttons and turning the volume knob and nothing happens. There was no noise coming out of the speakers but at this point the radio had changed to a preset that was a dead station (I know this because it was one of the default presets that I remember put out nothing). So I get back on and start to ride home. Radio still being intermittent, I pay attention to the buttons that I press and the order of which they get pressed and notice that it seems to do the functions that I ask it to, just on a really odd time interval. I finally get the dumb thing to shut off. As I am pulling into the garage I try it one more time, and it does not turn on right away, but eventually turns on again with no other responses. I turn the key off and again the head stays on. Pull the seat, disconnect the battery. It seems to me that this is either a short to ground somewhere, bad remote head, or a problem with the radio. I have split the fairing, checked all of the radio connectors and all were tight. Pulled the passenger seat and checked both radio-related connectors under their and both tight. Unplugged and replugged all of the associated radio connectors and no function now. (The head lights up but it does not turn the radio on or off). I have the passing lamp relay grounded to the headlight surrounds - unplugged that and no change. I figured that when my rectifier went out a few weeks ago that I may have toasted other electrical components, but, I got it all back together and have ridden 5,000+ miles with no problems until now; I would have thought that if it was related to that it would have shown up pretty much right away. I cannot seem to find where the radio unit is grounded though. Questions: 1) Does anyone know where the radio unit is grounded? 2) Any suggestions on what else to look at or how to test to see if the head or radio is bad without spending the $300+ for a new radio & control unit? Thanks in advance for any input.
  7. Any one know how to adjust the camber on the rear wheels of a Mitsubishi Outlander we have had it done at the shop but end up with a ton of - camber where the tire leans in at the top and just totally eats the inside edge of the tire. I just can't tell if the camber is adjusted by strut location or one of the control arms. there is a small control arm just in front of the rear drive shaft that looks to have a oblong bolt in it but not sure if this would adjust rear camber. I just can't take it in right now and would like to give a good bit of + camber to ride on the other side of the tire till i can deal with it the right way. Any help would be appreciated greatly
  8. I am seeking information in regard to putting my back brake up onto the handlebars using a hand control. It was mentioned in a past post by someone who said the hand control was used for racing and by handicapped riders I believe the company was SPEIGLER?? Can anyone help me with info --as it is going to be safer if I can move the back brake and then have that room to tuck my bad foot in close and get the leg in closer too:happy34:
  9. Wednesday afternoon, 1st gen cruise control failed today, no lights at all but when we swap out the light panel it works fine on another bike. What relays are related to the cruise control? Are they by the headlight assembly? Any other information would be helpful. 519 574-7115
  10. I just wanted to report in and tell everyone what an exhilerating time I had riding from SLC, UT to LA, CA last week. My first major trip on a big bike!! I had my Sirius radio going and the Cruise Control on with a smile on my face!! I am in the process of making a trailer so my wife can go with me on these trips. I will submit pictures if anyone is interested.
  11. The audio system on my 99 just doesn't seem to have enough power through the headsets. I have some of the mid-range (pricewise) J & M headsets, and with the IC at it's highest setting we sometimes struggle to hear each other. In addition, the radio volume seems weak also. At full volume it is still none too loud. I am running Road King pipes, so the exhaust volume isn't the problem. It does seem that the CB has plenty of volume....it'll blow my ears out. Just seems like the audio system doesn't have enough output power. Is this typical of the RSV's? Oh....I forgot to add that when I am playing MP3's through my GPS's player function I can get plenty of volume. Of course, the GPS has a volume control for the output so I can crank it up. One more thing......does the IC on the RSV really NOT have a VOX control? I can't find it if it does.... That seems incredible that an IC system would not include a VOX adjustment. Thanks, Joe
  12. Hey guys! I need a memory jogger, what is the E1 all about? I remember something about the control mod, where is it located? Thankx Gary C Arkansas
  13. How's this for excellent speed control? I don't know about you, but this would slow me down ! People slow down and try to "straddle" the hole .... This is actually a speed control device that is in use. It is much cheaper than speed cameras. Pretty clever - especially when moved around each day. Isn't art wonderful ?
  14. On a recent trip, I was cruising along on my 88VR at around 120km/hr (about 75mph) under cruise control when suddenly, my stop/run button popped from run to stop. I thought I had pressed the button but it happened several more times after I reengaed the crusie control. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on what caused this?
  15. Has anyone had problems with the auto volume control. My 84 has gave me problems since ive had it. I can set the volume to where i can hear it comfortable while riding and all of the sudden the thing blairs loud. So i turn it down and a few minutes later im turning it back up because its gotten to quiet. it does this constantly and it drives me crazy. I have removed the bottom unit where the auto volume control is located and tried cleaning it with no results. Does any one know how or if it can be by passed or do i need to replace it.
  16. I bought an 89 Royale and the radio has a couple of problems. First off, the volume control is extremely sensitive. One click from all the way down and the radio is at medium volume. At 2 clicks, it's loud, and at 3 its as loud as it gets. Also, the tone control seems to have very little effect from one extreme to the other. I took the control unit apart and checked the volume and tone potentiometers, and they are good. Does anybody have a more complete schematic than the one line page that's in the manual?? Frank D.
  17. I have an 86 Venture and am having some cruise control problems. As long as I set it below 60 mph it works fine but when I go over 70 it will gradually gain speed and all at once let off the accelerator until it returns to the original setting then reingauge. Has anyone had this problem before? I have a cousin that has the same problem with his which is a 90 model I think. Thank you,
  18. Hello to all; I just completed the antenna upgrade and all is fine. Took the scoot out on the road this morning and the tunes were coming in from areas I have not heard from in a long time. Got home and parked. Went back out to wash the bike and switched on the key to aux. too play some tunes and I had very little volume. Started up the bike to see if maybe it had something to do??? No avail, same result. At Vol 30, I can hear music very clearly out of all four speakers, but with very little volume. The volume control knob, when turned in the direction to decrease volume, does just that. It seems that the range of volume is happening between setting 1 ~ 3. I went through the settings to see if the fade was possibly affecting the output volume. I am unsure as to where to look next. Is there a mute button that I am not aware of?? Your help is always much appreciated. Thanks. Ricardo.
  19. Can someone please explain how to lube the control cables on a 2008 venture? I bought a repaid manual, but it does not explain this. I am sure it must be pretty simple.
  20. Wow , what a great ride today on my new trike. My First ride my Cruise Control was kinda acting kinda funny. ride for a while then it would just go off I could re-set it.. ride for a while and it would go off. Now , today I turn everything on and I hit SET and the lights just keep blinking then go off. then come back on as if it were still trying to set itself again.. (never did lock in place) Now after saying that .. the front of the bike had the 6 deg rake kit added to the bike at my dealers. Worked fine before it went into surgery. so what do you folks think they might of messed up or did not put back on right , before I go and dig into this after my NAP ! this afternoon! Dealer is 70 miles away , I would have to take time off work and I really want to just fix there mistake myself if I can. I sure will let them know what you guys came up with for the fix though! Thanks for any in-put gang! Jeff
  21. Seems like I used to be able to adjust the intercom volume with the knob on the audio control box, but last time we road 2-up I couldn't turn the intercom up or down. I know there's an IC setting on the audio box, but isn't the intercom volume adjustable with the volume knob too? My wife can adjust how loud she hears me with her volume control on the passenger's seat, but for some reason I can't adjust mine. I'm running a Zumo GPS with MP3 and can adjust the volume to it and the radio fine. Also, all of the connectors under the fairing have already been pulled and dielectric applied. David
  22. I have an '89 Venture. If I set the cruise at about 100KPH, it will eventually settle in about 107KPH. However, after losing a bit going uphill, on the downside it really speeds up. So much so that I have taken to hand cranking the throttle back so as to keep the speed down. If I don't it seems to hold that high speed quite awhile, and eventually I would have to reset the cruise again. Also, there have been a couple of times where it is like the cruise doesn't know where it is, and senses it is REALLY below speed. This results in the throttle opening up almost wide open. Not sure if it would correct itself as I always cancel the cruise, and then reset. So, any ideas what or where to start? Is it a sensor, or the whole cruise control module? Replacement? Thanks for looking guys.
  23. I have the a 1st generation Venture standard (1983), and was wondering if anyone has installed one of the audiovox cruise control systems on these bikes. Thanks
  24. Hello guys, great to be here, (first post). I ran a search ... but unconclusive. I use my uncle's 05 RSTD ... you know ... ... to keep motorcycle running for him. I used the cruise control, then after a few moments, pressed cancel. A few minutes later, I wanted to use the cruise control again, but, could not, ... the cancel button stayed pressed in. I was unable to get it to come back up. (Cruise control light goes "On" on dash). I do not have the Repair Manual (which I definitely want to get) to reference. H E L P ... any suggestions would be grately appreciated. Thanks, Rob
  25. Hi from France ! I want to put a cruise control on my old 1200 venture, is it easy ? Somebody can give me some plans ? Thanks for all ! Bikers Friendships ! barry-only-n7
