I have a friend that has no computer but does have an 86 VR. Anyhow he is having health issues and at the moment cannot ride. He is waiting for eye sugery. In the meantime we are trying to get his bike ready for when he is. His Dash is toast. The speedo and Computer readout are not working at all. Does anyone have a complete dash they are willing to part with for a MkII? If you do PM me with a price please. Wayne

I hope I can adequately state my question...I am running MS Vista on a Toshiba laptop. When I click on my internet connection and then the "view status" area; it reflects a fairly rapidly increasing number for "bytes received"...is this normal? Periodically my computer runs quite slowly...I'm on Hughes.net satellite which I've figured might be the reason for such slowness. I have run two different virus checkers against my computer, to no avail...appreciate any input you may have.

Most of you know I don't have a computer at home, so I am on here during the day. Is it my computer or did we really have a whole bunch of new members sign up today? Inquiring minds want to know!

Got a question for the geeks, I have been using Grisoft AVG anti virus, the free version, for a couple of years now. All of a sudden I get a virus, that now we can't get online with either the laptop or the home computer. Convienently it will go to AV's website and allow me to buy their anti virus. Now I believe that AV has something to do with this, I'm not that into computers, but it's too much of a coincidence that their website is the only one I can get to. 2 questions 1) Has anyone been having this problem with AVG free anti virus 2) Who uses what as far as anti virus programs, mind you I cant get online to download one onto my computer. I wont use Mcafee as I have used them in the past and been screwed. Norton isn't a popular option with me either unless someone can really give me a very good solid reason to use it. Any help is appreciated, my cell # is in my profile as until I get this fixed I can't get online from home.

A few weeks ago the rogue syware that pops up and says your computer is infected and it is going to do a scan popped up on my computer. I finally got it off my computer but since then I keep getting advertisements popping up. Just now I was on this site and all of a sudden my computer screen went blank and and ad for free credit report came up. Also, something has hijacked my web browser. I use msn for my homepage but if I put in a search an entirely different site comes up. Anyone know how I can correct this? I am using Yahoo's virus scan, spybotscan, spynomore and bit defender. None of these pick up anything on my computer.

I recently purchased an 83 Yamaha Venture 1200. There were some minor issues to take care before riding, such as the slave cylinder was frozen, and the carbs were completely dirty. This bike sat for about a year, indoors. So my pops and I pulled the carbs off the bike and soaked each one for 24 hours in 2 different cleaners. We reassembled the carbs and reinstalled them back onto the bike. At first, I was getting a bit of popping and cracking coming up through the carbs into the air filter compartment. After riding it for a day or 2 and blowing out the carbs, the popping and cracking settled to just every once in awhile. So that part is taken care of for now. Another issue I am having is the onbaord computer is acting funny. The fuel guage goes up and down and sometimes shows empty with a full tank. The oil light comes on throwing a warning, and even the temperature guage is throwing a warning. All of this is intermintent and comes and goes. I know it has to be a wiring issues. However ... we did not mess with any of the wiring during our work on the carbs. All we did was unplug the battery cables at the battery terminals. Does anyone know what could be causing this malfunction of the onboard computer, to make it act goofy and throw warnings. Like I said ... it only does it every once in awhile. I would appreciate any real advise on this issue. Thanks JTJones

Sam Almgren came over from Ga today to try and help me fix my dim highbeam. Thanks Sam!!. Alas we (he) had no luck! Actually Sam seems to think the computer module has a problem since I don't have 12 V going to the high beam. Anyone have one of them dar puppies laying around? In the absence of that, a Mk1 dash with 30K miles? After that, anyone interested in disecting the old one or trying to fix it (Dingy?)?

I have an old HP Pavaillion computer that the only thing I have done to it is add a memory card. Well, my internet provider Comcast has a free download of Norton antivirus. I decided last night that I would try it and now my computer is really screwed up. It takes about 5 minutes just to download the Comcast homepage. Then, to go on any site, like VR, takes several more minutes. I have rebooted it several times and it does not matter. I am at work now and when I get home I am going to see what I can do with it and am open for any suggestions. I am not very computer literate, so any instructions need to be pretty basic. I need to upgrade the whole computer, but that is not on my budget priority list right now. Thanks for any help. RandyA

On the way home from work I noticed that my turn signals hads quit working. Then I noticed that all the computer display was blank although the tach was still working, then that quit. When I got home and put the kickstand down everything came back. If I put the ks back up it all went out again. Now, after sitting, it's back to blank when I turn on the switch. I have tried plugging in another computer to no effect. I don't know if the other computer is good but I've checked it out and don't see any noticeably bad solder joints. I also have a nib reserve lighting unit that I am going to try. Anybody have any ideas? I've got my laptop here in the garage with me.

I'm looking for help/info with regard to external hard drive back ups. I want to get something & a program that I can download a back up from a different location. Confusing ? yep - Here's what I want to do; I will have a computer in a building apart from my home and across town. There will be people cataloging information/pictures on that computer. At the end of the day I want to back up that information on an external hard drive which will be located at my home. The reason for this particular action is many but foremost is in case of fire/theft or any other unforeseen act. Thanks for any help. Dick

My other computer when I turn it on will beep 3 or 4 times and sounds like the fan is running at high speed. The monitor says its not receiving any signal and the fan is really loud. Any ideas what happened or what I need to look for?

I Just completed the install on the addition of the two extra lights on the rear of my Hannigan like 1-UP and B2DAD had done, show here. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44683 It is a great addition to the trike and really lights up the rear even more. even looks like they belong in that spot. My FYI is that I noticed when taking the Adapters apart is how much dirt came out of them. So when I added the new lights I made two "Y" Adapters that I picked up at the computer store, as Hannigan uses the same connectors for that connection. I blew the dirt out of the original connectors cleaned them up and added die-electric grease on all the parts then connected the (y) adapters, then added silicon sealer to the top and bottom of all the wires going into each connector. Not sure if I ever would have noticed this if not adding the additional lights in the future. but seems it could be a problem of corrosion in the future. even if your not adding the extra lights I would check them and seal them a little better, Just my 2cents worth. (these connectors are the type that would be on your power supply in you computer) They had a strange look when I told them at the computer store I needed them for my motorcycle Happy Triking, Jeff

Home computer running XP serv pack3, 3g ram, when I type anything like a reply to an email or a reply on a thread my actual letter posting lags behind my keystrokes by several seconds. I'm not a fast 3 fingered typist, maybe 10wpm, at best. McAfaee and Lavasoft find nothing amiss or extra. If I reboot it does not do it as badly for about 5 minutes. Any guess?

had to have myself a tablet PC (Dell) so I got one on a lease with a dollar buy out. Now why did I have to do that??? The video driver which controls screen orientation craps out! So the tablet function is all but a moot point. I use a second monitor in the office, there have been many instances where when I wake it up my screen is in large type. I may be going blind, but I don't need the computer to decide I need large type. Firefox: It won't open! Icon is there, it just quit working. I've already re-installed it a number of times, seems to have problems each time. The not working part is just the latest. At times when I click on a button in one program, it switches applications instead. Loading programs is (from my perspective) r-e-a-l s--l--o--w ! External monitor will suddnly get fuzzy (little red lines running through it), won't go away till I re-start. I'd send the damn thing back, but, Oh no! you can't do that! So I 'm screwed. :soapbox:O.K. I'm done b**ching now!
