  1. I ordered the Barnett Clutch Kit, plates & pressure plate, back in August of 2010. Because of health reasons, (more like apprehension/Lazyness), I didn't install it until this morning. I found a page on this site for clutch replacement and finally dug in. I got it all appart and saw something about noticing the marks on the clutch plates, which I saw on the originals but not on the Barnett. So, I figured that it doesn't matter & put it together anyway. But, before tightening it all down, I decided to cover it up and check for replacing with BARNETT Clutches. Boy am I glad I stopped!! I obviously have the wrong clutch package. So, come Monday, I will be on the phone ordering the correct clutch plate set. I will have to overnight it because we are heading to Ohio mid May. So, this clutch replacement is going to cost me MUCH more. I guess that is the price I pay for putting things off! Craigr
  2. Has there been a certified "fix" for the Royal Star Whine? I understand some have worse than others. Later models seem to have it better. Synthetic oil helps. But has there been a source identified (clutch basket is thought to be the cause) and a fix? Saw this in an earlier thread: After 3 trips to my local dealership to see about an I-basket swap, the dealership felt it was a final drive (rear end) issue and not a clutch issue. Two trips and a call to Yamaha yielded that there was a "message" out about improperly installed spacers in the final drive housing. Mine was found to have this issue. The tech pulled mine apart, found the grommets that hold the spacers were not seated correctly, liberally lubed everything and put it all back together. I have only been riding it for about 150 miles since the "fix", but so far all the whine and chirp is gone. Wondering if there was something to this.... Needless to say, my 2006 has the whine bad. Pretty much whines in all gears if there is a load of any kind on the motor. Love the bike EXCEPT for this. It's something I don't want to live with...might have to get a different bike if I can't come up with a solution.
  3. Hello, I am new to this site and will likely be joining soon as there is very good information here for $12.00 a year. My question is, I have a 05 midnight venture with 45,000 miles. I bought the bike a few months ago and changed the oil and bleed the fluids. ie clutch, brakes. When the bike is cool the shifting is perfect but if I get into traffic with stop and go it gets difficult to downshift. If I rev the engine a little it will shift better. By the way, this doesn't always happen. Sometimes it will shift normal even in traffic but mostly it will not shift as I would like. Is this normal or what should I look for to help with the issue? Thanks in advance for any assistance. I have upgraded the clutch spring already because the clutch was slipping when I got the bike. Just changed the oil again; went from Mobile 1 to Rotella T synthetic just to try something different, No change in performance after the change. Thanks again!!
  4. I am installing a Barnett clutch pack #306-90-20082 and SR-2 kit in my 08 venture. With the spring plate torqued in place and the cover ready to go on. I still have considerable play in the clutch pack. It feels like I am missing one or more discs. Is play normal here or should torquing the spring plate have tightened everything up? Thanks for any guidance. Mike
  5. My '87 VR clutch is starting to slip when I apply too much throttle in top gear. I guess I'll have to replace the friction plates soon. What brand of plates do you recommend ? Jim O'D........ Australia:confused24:
  6. Just under 43K miles on 2007 RSV, clutch is starting to slip at high rpms. No trailer towing, mostly solo riding. Is it worth the upgrade or just go with OEM style? Is there a complete kit or do I have to order parts separately? Or do I just need new friction plates? What parts will I need? Never done a clutch before, so not sure what gets replace and what might get reused. Where is the best place to get clutch parts? THANKS
  7. I have trouble sometimes keeping my cruise on and what is happening is the wind will push the clutch lever just enough to disengage the cruise. If I hold the clutch leaver out everything works fine. It feels like there should be a spring or at least a stronger spring in there to keep it out a tad more. Is there a way to make the lever stay out and not disengage the cruise. I had the handle apart and cannot find a spring so I'm guessing it is inside the housing.
  8. Hello everyone Out on a ride today and went to shift down and couldnt without reving the engine.also when in first gear, and stopped, bike kept moving forward with clutch lever squeezed tight.Seems to be a lot of play in the lever as well.Checked the resivour and was full. any ideas.if it was cable driven i would say stretched cable but at a loss with hydrolic clutch any ideas Thanks
  9. After 115000km my cruse control was not working on further investigation I discovered that my clutch handle has a slight movement in worn is there a way to fix it or do i have to replace it thanks
  10. My clutch cover has a crack that a previous owner attempted to repair with some sort of epoxy(?). The repair has now let go and the cover leaks.. I don't know of any method of permanent repair on this material, so I'm wondering if anyone has a cover they are wiling to sell. Or do I have to go to fleabay? This is the 1300 cc engine. PM me if you have one you would like to sell.
  11. My 2008 Venture does not have that many miles on it but I have had clutch (engine) flair a couple of times now. Riding today confirmed it. When I first got this bike I spent a huge amount of time in parking lots making low speed turns etc. etc. Which means I did an inordinate amount of clutch slipping. I have installed the lower geared V-Max rear end. Which while that doesn't hurt the clutch in itself did change the way I ride. That might, just might mind you be a little harder on the clutch. I know it is harder on my breathing. I have also had the bike run on the dyno a couple of times. So I am not surprised I am getting a little slip (flair) here and there. Since I am planning a trip later this year I think clutch changing time has slipped up on me. So what do I need? It the Skydoc mod the best way to go? any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Mike
  12. Hi everyone. Will a V-Max clutch plates fit a Second Gen. Venture. If so which model do I go for. Problem is I am having problems sourcing clutch parts in the UK other than genuine Yamaha ones for my 1999 Second Gen. But there are hundreds of sources for V-Max clutch plates and spring. Your thoughts please. Best wishes. Neil. Old Miner.
  13. I have a replacement clutch master cylinder in hand and have a rebuild kit on order from the dealer. I just have a few questions. 1. How do i separate the electrical wire (thats a strange lokking connector)? 2. wheni look into the bowl, i see 2 holes on the bottom. One seems to be plugged (not sure if there is a valve there or not). Is that normal? 3. How difficult is it to rebuild it? Should i leave it to the shop? (This years bike repair budget is long gone) 4 . What is in the $39 dealer rebuild kit? http://venturers.org/Forum/download/file.php?avatar=11210_1329974423.jpg alvald Posts: 226 Joined: Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:32 pm Member Number: 3088 City: San Jose State or Province: CA Country: USA PTBAV since: 2010 Private message E-mail alvald
  14. In for a penny in for a pound. On this years round of 1st gen bike upgrades so far: New tires and rubber front and back By local Two Brothers tires Lawrenceville, Ga. Specializing in MC Tires. Programable TCI upgrade By Dingy New Starter clutch by Dano. So in prep for new Starter Clutch upgrade I'm noticing second stock stator is 1/2 crispy. Evidently, Time to do the high output stator Upgrade. So my question is what is the latest and greatest word on a high output Stator upgrade options for a 1987 MK2 XVZ1300 VR. Might as well do it now while I'm into it this far :mo money:and I have a loaner bike, and convertible to drive around until the 1st gen gets back on the road. Bob
  15. I have been working on the PCW clutch upgrade on my 2006 RSV with 42,000 miles. I road to work, then Iron Pony after work to pick up oil filter and oil. Bike has been running great minus the slipping clutch. I honestly dont know if my clutch upgrade worked or not because after I had put everything back together I turn the key to on and before I could hit the starter button the bike fired up on its own. NEVER done that before. I decided to take the battery cables off for a few minutes. Put them back on turned the key to one and the damn thing fires on its own again. The entire time the starter motor is running. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Hi Guys. Need some help. I am suffering from a bad case of clutch slip. Does the 1999 second gen TF Venture have a clutch spring plate or does it have several, say six small springs like the older machines. I say that it is an spring plate as shown in service manual. 1 in total. The chap who sells EBC parts on E-Bay says it is a set of several springs. As shown below. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11051.m43.l1123/7?euid=e57ef8c1b95d43ddbc200129acc4e73c&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Febaymotors%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D270926331528%26ssPageName%3DADME%3AX%3ARTQ%3AMOTORS%3A1123 Thanks. 17. Hey all, I checked out most all the threads on the neutral switch, but didn't find anything that resembles this issue. I had to replace the ignition switch ( main power on contact plate fried). put in a switch from a '78 400 special mounted on the left side of seat. everything worked fine when on the hoist. Set the bike down, tried to start,,, no spark! followed the wiring schematic and traced it back to the neutral switch. will start only when the stand is up or stand down and clutch engaged. Could it be the gear indicator in the Tranny? if so, would it be best to bypass the clutch neutral switch on the bars? I prefer to keep the stand working, and i don't use the clutch to disengage the cruise. Thanks in advance
  18. I just installed a speed bleeder on my clutch bleeder. The resevoir was empty....don't know why. I am assuming I need to crack it open a 1/2 turn or so to bleed it. I am getting all kinds of fresh fluid into my vacume bleeder...and I hear what sounds like a sucking sound and saw lots of bubbles. the bubbles stopped and I"ve filled the vacume resevoir twice already ....but my clutch isn't getting any better! I tried closing the nipple and seeing if the vacume dropped...indicated a poor hose connection...but it doesn't, so everything is nice and tight. So why can't I get more clutch?? a quick answer would be appreciated I've already lost a few good riding oportunities!!!!!!
  19. Kudos to ECK, Curt and Freebird for the great directions and post on the clutch upgrade. Bought the PCW upgrade kit, also bought new clutch disks. Everything went right as it should have. Noticed that the only two bolts that were different were at 2 and 10 o'clock, otherwise they were all the same. Wire came right out with a pair of long needle nose, and everything went right back in as planned. No need to adjust the clutch afterwards. Did notice it is slightly stiffer, and maybe does release a little latter, but a VERY noticable difference in that it no longer slips like it did! After talking to Curt, and for others future endevors, there is no need to use permatex or gasket sealer when replacing the gasket. I do see that I will have to buy a smaller torque wrench as mine only goes to 10 ft. lbs. Otherwise, thanks to all, this probably saved me a cpl. hundred bucks as I'm sure thats what my local stealer would'a charged me to do it! Anyomne close to Bremen that ever needs a hand doing one, now please feel free to call! Thanks again Freebird, Eck and Curt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I have a 96 Royal Star Tour Classic i bought about 6months ago and it has developed a new noise. It sounds like a tire or [ame=http://www.starbikeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=873#]belt[/ame] rubbing, but only when I coast or decelerate i in gear with the clutch out. i have read the vast array of threads about "chirping" and "whining" because of the gears and clutch basket, but all these mention the noise in acceleration and not deceleration. i don't have that problem, on when coasting or slowing down. I would greatly appreicate any help or advice. Thanks, Sam p.s. i should note that I have already changed the oil, and the final drive hypoid oil, both with no change to the noise.
  21. I have an '84 Venture. I just fixed my 4th gear loss problem and put the clutch back in. Now I can'y pull the clutch lever..... Pulled the clutch back off and still can't pull the lever....steel rod doesn't move at all...
  22. This is probably a dumb question. I think there is something wrong with my fuel injectors. Can a person roll this type of vehicle down hill and pop the clutch and get the cylinders to pump/suck fuel to start. If so then will the car stay running until shut off.
  23. What can I do to stop my clutch lever from Squeeking. It does it every now and then. Thanks
  24. During my bike cleaning today i decided to try to clean the clutch sight glass. I used a screw driver to lightly scrape away the thick oxidation. Then the problem, fluid began to leak from the center of the glass. Can i repair this with sometype of glue or adhesive. I'd really hate to go through the sight glass replacement process.
  25. One of the screw holes used for securing the top cover on my clutch master cylinder is stripped. The screw is fine. Its the hole that is boogered. I currently have a slightly longer screw in there which did bite but I am not happy with it. Has anyone tried repairing the hole with a heli-coil or Does any one have a master cylinder that I can buy? Thanks, Ray
