  1. I just bought a 99 Venture and the light bar bulbs are very dim, I suspect they have never been changed and are wore out so to speak. Was wondering what type of bub to get, suspect H4 and what wattage is stock. Also anyone know of a decent place to order from?
  2. You may notice that I have been doing some work on the menu bars at the top of the page. The lower menu bar was getting pretty crowded while the upper bar was almost empty so I've moved some things around. So...if you think something is missing, just look around a bit and you should find it. For example, the link to the chat room is now in the upper menu bar on the right side beside the donate button. Really...I just did it to keep you all confused.
  3. Can anyone tell me if we get a discount from Diamond R?
  4. I know that this is a yamaha site, but I've been looking for a sissy bar that will fit a 78 GoldWing with a 9" luggage rack. If I can find a bar in good shape I can do away with the luggage rack. The old bike is a lot like a venture in that I can't find aftermarket parts anywhere.:bang head:
  5. Anyone with a 2nd gen who has installed the driving lights still have the turn signal they took off? I'm going to remove the driving lights and I need a turn signal bar to put in it's place. Thanks.
  6. Looking for a replacement right rear crash bar for an RSV - the chrome crash bar right in front of the right saddlebag. Mine still has some road rash on the lower corner after my wreck last year, so now I would like to replace it. Anyone know of a good one available at a nice price? Thanx! Goose
  7. Been looking for over an hour on the site for the thread on the crash bar brackets that attach to the floorboards to give the bars some strength. Can someone send me a link to the thread?? it would be much appreciated. Moakster
  8. I just purchased a Signal Dynamics light bar for the back of my scoot. http://signaldynamics.com/products/LightBars/red15ulb_sm.jpg So, where do you wire it into the brake/running lights? Thanks, Bob
  9. Since I am no longer making the centerstands for the RSV, there have been some requests for the measurements of the bracket. Here is one that I quickly through together to get the measurements from. Not that the large holes on the U bracket and the straight bar are 16 mm. The ground out part at the bottom of the bar is so that the stand breaks over the proper amount. This varies per stand. I always put them together and then grind it out until the stand breaks JUST over verticle. Too much and it is hard to get the bike off the stand.
  10. Hey All I was looking at the Diamond R Saddle bag light bar for my 06 RSTD.. Has anyone installed these lights and if so, whats your take on them ? THanks
  11. Please not that until the new IP address of the server is finished propagating, clicking on some of the links will take you back to the older server. If you click a link and see http://www.venturerider.org...whatever in the address bar, then you have been taken back to the inactive server. Hopefully it won't take too long for it to complete the propagation.
  12. I am having trouble wiring my light bar on 2007 V-star 1300. Does this bike have a per wired plug for this purpose? :think
  13. Does anyone have a good (cheap) source for crash bar clamps? I am looking for two so I can put the crash bar brace on my 05. I believe they are the 1 inch ones. They are pretty proud of them up here in the white north! Thanks
  14. I just bought a set of Kuryakyn ISO grips to install on my new RSTD. But after reading some old threads here, I am a bit hesitant about losing my bar end weights. There are some members who have machined them to accept the weights, but I do not have the knowledge, nor access to the equipment to accomplish such a feat. Are there any local (Hamilton area) members, who have done the grip installation and would be willing to meet a new member? Or anyone who has successfully mounted the bar weights to the new grips, that could give me some help? My last bike I had for 5 years, and the only accessory I had was saddlebags. I did all my own maintainence, (oil changes, chain tightening etc) but I wanted to dress up my new bike and grips is my first addition. Any and all help is most appreciated. Sonny
  15. I mounted a water bottle cage to the left saddlebag crash guard. Works great. I used a cage that adjusts with a thumb screw to whatever water bottle you use. I use a CamelBak bottle that doesn't require tipping up (so it doesn't block my view of the road while taking a drink). It attaches using a 1" bar clamp I got from the bike store, and I installed it so the passenger floorboards still can be folded up.
  16. The RSTD handle bar has a nut pressed inside the bars. I guess it's pressed in... I don't see any screw, brad or weld marks on the bar. Are they supposed to stick out like that (about 3/16")? The way the weight is machined, it looks like it should fit inside the bar about 1/8", with the weight flush to the bar. Instead, there is 3/16" gap. These are bars and weights for an '05 RSTD. If they are supposed to be that way, no problem... it just looks funny. If they are supposed to fit flush, I'll see if I can 'press' the nuts in a little more.

    buy a gal a drink?

An interesting thing happened to me Saturday nite at one of the local biker hangouts, this one was in Amarillo. I was sitting at the bar, having a beer, visiting with friends. The band was playing, and the bar was kinda busy. The usual stuff. Three attractive young women walk in, and approach the bar, right next to me, to order their drinks. One young woman, (wearing a short dress, and pink and blonde hair!) does not order, and begins to look around. I asked her, are you looking for someone?... thinking I might start a conversation with her. She smiles and says yeah, I'm looking for someone to buy my drinks..(DRINKS, as in, LOTS of them!)...I said, are you even old enough to drink? She said, oh yeah I'm 21, but I'm a poor college student, and I need somebody to buy me drinks, so why not you? I said, hey, no thanks...she looked kinda pissed, and went over to the next sucker, and hit him up. Now, I gotta ask, WTF? I'm 49, and I look it, so do all young gals think good looks will always open an old mans wallet? I guess it works most of the time, otherwise why would they do it? Normally, a new gal will sit down next to you, and buy her first drink, and wait for the man to notice her, take an interest, offer to buy her a drink...yada yada yada..same old routine...at least you normally exchange first names! There was no way in hell this gal was gonna 'put-out' for a few drinks...and I'm not wanting one that would, anyway. I'm also aware that TABC (Texas Alchoholic Beverage Commission) 'stings' can happen, and since I didnt see the barstaff actually 'card' this gal, it sure could have been a 'setup'!! This young lady looked to be around 18 or 19 to me...I guess if she can afford college, a nice dress, pink hair, and a car to drive around in, she can most likely afford her first beer of the nite, at least! I DO buy drinks for my friends, and they for me, but that little gal had an amazing set of stones.
  18. Does anyone know anything about installing these? If you do, why do the 4 threaded holes (female) on the light mounting bar for the wind deflectors not take the stock screws that I took off the original Yamaha Venture light bar? I tried to tighten with my fingers before I put a tool on all 4 bolts in all the 4 mounting holes and they would not thread. Any ideas? The lamps are stamped made in USA so I'm thinking maybe they are SAE and not metric?
  19. I'm rebuilding the Black Beast from the accident I had in November. While I have it down I am doing several mods. I will talk about those in another thread and reserve this one for the bar end weights. I wanted to keep the bar end weights to reduce vibration and have a place to rest my hand while I was using the cruise control. Once I got the handle bars stripped down here is what I came up with. The threaded plugs that the weights screw into are welded in with just a spot weld on the bottom side of the bar. I went out to my brother-in-law's shop and ground the weld out. (Since the stock bars were ruined I didn't get real creative about saving them). If you want to save the stock bars it would be easy to grind just the weld, then reweld the plugs back in later. I marked the new bars so I could drill a 3/8" hole in them to weld the plugs back in. Then I had my brother-in-law spot weld the plugs in. Now this is important. DONT PICK THE BAR UP BY THE HANDLE. IT'S HOT!!!!!! (Yeah I know. I knew better. But since the brain surgery in January my short term memory seems to be shot:whistling:.) I now have a set of Flander's bars with the option to use the bar weights or not. All it cost me was 30 minutes of my brother-in-law laughing at me cause I burnt my hand. The things we suffer through to ride:confused24:. I hope this can be of use to someone out there. Ride safe.
  20. I want to install an LED light bar under the trunk. Probably either the Rivco or the Diamond-R. However I have a Priority-Plus unit installed now, it makes the turn signals act as position lights (on all the time except when turn signal activated) and blinks the brake lights several times when the brake is activated prior to full-steady. I was planning to connect the light bar in the usual way to the tail and brake light wiring - tapping in after the Priority plus connection. Does any one know if this will work OK with a light bar or does the LED somehow react differently? I can't see why it wouldn't work but would appreciate comments from any of you who might be familiar with such set-ups.
  21. Hi everyone, is there some secret to taking off the bar end weights? I thought I should ask before I twisted with too much force and ended up doing some damage.
  22. Sorry for poor quality took with cell phone but this is pics I took of Madrid, NM which if you didnt know is where wild hogs had their set-to and big part af movie was filmed. first picture is sing in front of the cafe, second is of the bar, third is parking lot in front of bar and last is local rock band playing inside. Hope to go back and remember camera. Maybe have a M&E there one day?
  23. It seems like some of the discussions we see endlessly discussed, and if we don't have a particular interest in the topic, we might just lightly scan it but not really give it any serious attention. Then later on, we develop an interest in that topic and return to the previous threads to search out the details - and then we can't find just what we need even though we know that we saw it somewhere. That's what I'm up against. If the answer is there, would someone just point me to it please? I would like to install a nice looking LED Light Bar on my '07 Midnight Venture. However, I don't want to spend $300 on Yamaha's trunk spoiler light bar. I know of one person who found a nice looking bar which he mounted right between his helmet locks, but I can't remember the manufacturer. I like the Signal Dynamics,15'' LED Ultra Light Bar, but it looks like it would need to be attached to some sort of a fabricated bracket if I wished to put it between my helmet locks. I'm not sure that it would look good to just stick it on the trunk with the adhesive tape. If I mount a light bar back there, I want to make sure that it looks like it belongs there, and not look like something which I didn't take the time to think through properly. I would also like to see a few close-up pictures of different mounting alternatives and what they look like, but not just when they are lit-up. I already know what bright LED lights look like when they are lit up. I want to see how good the light bar looks as an accessory and if it looks like it's supposed to be there. So, I'm open to suggestions. But, please be aware that I'm no fabricator. As a matter of fact, I'm probably just barely smart enough to know that it's important to make this task look good, but not able to accomplish it without some help. Each new project becomes a learning experience. Thanks guys & Be Safe! Pete.
  24. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Yamaha STR-4YV27-17-03 handle bar clamp will work on a Venture if you have the risers installed? It looks to me like the clamp will not clear the inside of the fairing where the cruise control on/off switch is located. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/STR-4YV27-17-03.jpg
  25. I replaced my handle bar grips with a pair of Kuryakyn grips ...and now I noticed that my handle bar is shaking more, then before when I take my hands from the handle bar .. Is that because I removed the handle bar weights?
