Just bought an 88VR with a braket for a backrest, but it is missing the actual backrest. Don't think it is a Yamaha accessory. Can anybody tell from the picture who makes this and does anybody know where I might find the matching backrest that attaches to the bracket shown in the picture?

Will the trunk from an 86 VR fit on my 83? I like the style of the backrest better and was wondering if it's a straight swap.

I just bought a very slightly used set of the Corbin seats that Yamaha markets for my 2006 RSTD. They are called the "Comfort Cruise Solo Seat" and "Custom Cruise Tour Pillion" Does anyone know of a drivers backrest that will work with these? Or any rain covers? Any help is appreciated. Here's a link to the seats that I am talking about, I have the plainer ones with out studs: http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/catalogs/products/26/801/2247/1/0/0/1/4/90/68/329/seats-backrests.aspx Thanks Bob LeDuc

I am having a problem with my rear seat. I have a drivers backrest and needed longer bolts to install that with the rear seat. I thought I got the right size bolts, but they are obviously slightly different because I cannot get them to tighten up anymore. I have had the backrest on for about a year now and have only recently started having this problem. I tried taking the backrest off and using the stock bolts, but they won't tighten down now either. Any suggestions besides get a new mounting bracket for the rear seat?

I am looking for a touring bag for my RSTD. It's hard to tell very much from the small pictures in ads and I haven't had any experience with them. From what I see, some of them mount over the backrest and sit on the passenger seat while others seem to strap to the back side of the backrest. I think I would prefer one that will strap securely to the back or fit either way. It doesn't have to be leather, cordura fabric would be OK but I am not interested in spending $400 on one. Would also prefer one with some type of inner frame to keep it's shape. I have seen a couple of the Saddleman bags that I might like, but I would like some feedback from folks who have had different ones and what you think about them. I have run a seach on the forum, but some of the older links no longer work. I may be asking too much, but hey, if you don't ask ........ Thanks, Jeff

....no not as in starting the bike, but new to the Venture bike and my first dumb questions! I'm in process of procuring my "new" '84 Venture and wondered if the Royale model driver seat backrest is an easy "put on" to the Standard seat? Also, just to confirm that the adjustable side louvres on the fariing by the knees will redirect engine heat to one's legs? List of things not included on the Standard model? on-board compressor radio backrest clip on wind thingees by the knees on the fairing anything else? When I get the owner and shop manuals from the seller, I should be able to find some answers before wasting your reading time! thanks

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the overstuffed Driver backrest from Diamond R. I am hoping this will help me from slouching when I drive. Anyone with this backrest or any confirm it will help. Thanks....

Anybody with a RSTD have the Protac drivers backrest? I picked one up used but just can't see how it connects to rear fender. Just won't line up. Does it go behind the chromepiece for the saddlebags? Pics would be helpful. God Bless. Mike

Hey folks, help me out if you can! My wife loves to ride with me, the problem is if she rides very long the engine vibration she feels through the rear seat and especially the backrest pad on the trunk leaves her with a back ache. I just recently put new tires on and with the Avon Venoms the bike feels a lot smoother to me. I don't notice any engine vibration through the drivers seat but I can reach back with my left hand on the highway and feel considerably more vibration in the passenger backrest. I'm wondering if there's a support modification that would help, or if the standard backrest might be better than the one I have on my '05 Midnight. Any ideas?

Does anyone know where I can get a drivers backrest, non studded, for a stock seat for a 08 Venture..............or do they even make such a thing? I checked Yamaha's site but couldn't find one. Any advise?

I just wanted to throw a couple of kudos at a vendor I had good dealings with. I just got my RSTD a month or so ago and I missed the backrest I had on my V-Star. I searched and searched and finally found the one I wanted at "Scootworks" I placed the order online and called the next day to see when it would ship. I got a machine and thought that would be the end of that. I've gotten so used to no one returning my calls. Well an hour later a friendly lady called and explained that they didn't have the backrest in stock, but they should have it by Monday and I would have it 2 days later (this was on a Thursday). I never really expect anything when I'm told to expect it, so I was thinking maybe the following Friday I'd have it. Well to my amazement I found it on my front porch the next Monday 2 days quicker than I was told. I like to ***** when I get bad service, so it's only fair I rave a little when the service is good. In the few short weeks I've been a member here, I've learned about many things I previously never knew regarding my Venture. Included in that category are items which make the trip more comfortable. A few days ago, I read a thread about seat covers in this Bike Accessories section. I happened to be near my local IKEA yesterday and went in to take a look at the sheepskin pelts talked about in the previous thread. They have two sizes and two colors (white and gray). The larger size is $40 and the smaller is $20. The larger size is the perfect fit to cover the venture seat, front to back and perfectly drapes over the sides just enough. I took off the top bracket of my Utopia backrest and made measurements for a slit. A few seconds later after a slit from an exacto knife, the base nub of the backrest poked through and I re-attached the top. Looks good. In the back, I tucked the couple of inches of leftover material between the seat and the trunk. Seems nice and tight. Between me sitting on it, the backrest keeping it in place, tucking it in and either luggage or my girlfriend sitting on the rear seat, I think it's pretty secure. I am heading out for a ride shortly and I'll let you know if I notice an increase in comfort and how well it worked.

My wife noticed some writing on the back of the backrest yesterday as we headed out for a Sunday ride. Anybody else have this on their backrest? "WARNING This backrest is for solo riding only!" So, whats up with that? Is this just a CYA or should I be taking it off everytime she gets on? Iowa Guy

My friend of 30 yrs just traded his wing for a new venture. Is there a bolt on backrest like the old Markland available. The only ones he can find are the one's that you have to buy a new seat with a gap in it for the rest.

Folks I just want to take this time to praise those who deserve it. I recently (read last Monday) decided to buy a backrest for my '08. I looked at both the Utopia and the Diamond R, I went with the Diamond R and I am so happy that I did. I know you folks hear of us praising certain vendors that offer us great products or service. Let me tell you that Diamond R does both. I ordered online and then later that morning talked with Patty on the phone. She was very pleasant to chat with and had told me that she had already packaged up my backrest and was going to ship it the same day I ordered it! I recieved it from Texas to Michigan by Thursday 3 days...it don't get much better than that folks. Lonna and I went to Bummers M&E south of Indy this weekend and I can tell you that my back was a much happier part of me. If you are looking for a backrest, please check out what Allan & Patty have to offer. Their products are top quality and the customer service is stellar....I highly recommend them to all of our members

I've often seen people here who are looking for driver's backrests for the first generation Ventures. Markland used to make one but of course it is no longer in production. They do come up on Ebay from time to time but usually bring top dollar. I was wondering how many people know that Utopia still makes a backrest for the first gen. At least for the '86-'93 I think. It requires a bit of work to install but really doesn't look that difficult. http://www.utpr.com/venture.html

Wondering if there's anyone that can tell me where to get a good backrest for my 2003 Venture. I met a couple from Canada last week with a 2006 Venture with what he said was a Yamaha OEM backrest. I checked through Yamaha and I wasn't able to find one. If someone could could lead me to Yamaha's backrest that would be great, or if anyone has a backrest they love on their second generation Venture, I'd be very appreciative to find out where they got it. Thanks, Terry

I know there are a number of aftermarket drivers backrests for the 2nd. gen Royal Star Venture. I am trying to find the name and contact info for the manufacturer of the backrest that attaches to the outside fender bolts for support. The frame of the backrest goes around the outside of the seat, rather than between the passender seat and drivers seat (ala Utopia style). Your help is appreciated. MickO

The connector is not in a very handy place. I want to move it but am limited by the amount of wire. The wire runs from the connector back up in under the trunk. Anyone know if there's extra cable packed behind the passenger backrest somewhere? If so, how do you get to it? Anyone else repositioned the connector to make it more accessible?

I recently bought an '04 Midnight RSV. It has the small nubs on the side of the passenger backrest. My wife wants the backrest that has the arm rests which stick out about 6-8 inches. I've seen photos, but haven't found it for sale on www.starmotorcycles.com and haven't found any info on it in this forum, so please help me learn where to purchase it and what it is called. I have attempted to attach photos of other's bikes with the two different styles that I am trying to describe.
