  1. Well, since my dealer here in Searcy does not have an "air pump" on the premises, I had to go ahead and buy one (which will probably only get used a couple of times), but at least I have it now. I may decide to RENT it to my dealer for $79.95/hour though. Wally
  2. I have a battery tender pigtail connected to my battery. Can I use that pigtail to power up one of those little portable air compressors that you carry with the bike or will the amps required melt the wires?
  3. Well, been home for a week now recouping from sholder surgery, WAY to much time on my hands before I go back to work. Tinkering in my work shop, I want to run several more lines remotely off my air compressor so I have alternate locations that I can plug in air tools, etc. I am thinking of using 1/2" inch PVC pipe? Anyone have any experience with this? Just thinking 1/2" as its cheeper that 3/4"? Would ther be a difference in air flow CFM,s etc between 1/2" and 3/4"????????? Air is used mostly for blowing off parts, drying and a 3/4" air ratchet. Light sanding, no heavy spray painting or orbital sanding? Any hints?
  4. Tire Pressure Always inflate tires to the correct pressure as indicated in the owner's manual. However Metzeler North America has found the air pressure suggestions listed below will improve mileage and customer satisfaction especially if a emphasis is placed on running the air pressure towards the maximum as stated on the sidewall. Check cold tire pressures frequently. Correct tire pressure is crucial for safe handling. Over inflation may impair ride comfort and reduce the contact patch between the tire and driving surface of the tires. Insufficient air pressure will result in poor handling and cause a tendency for the motorcycle to "wander". In addition, improper and insufficient tire will cause accelerated tire wear, increased fuel consumption, less control and the possibilities for tire failure to due an overload/under inflated operating situation. 5. For the last year the rear air pressure in my '87 would leak from 40lb down to 20lb in about 1 day then on to near 0 in another day or two. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower. Each morning I would pump it up with my 0-60lb gauge hand pump from Progressive. Reading aroud here mostly about 2nd Gen shock leaks someone mentioned putting in some tranny fluid into the air fill line to swell the seals some. I did not have any tranny fluid laying around, but I did have some power steering fluid with leak stop additive. No idea if it hurts or hinders long term but I did not have much to lose so I put in about 1 ounce with a veterinarian syringe and surgical tubing section I had. Now 3 days have gone by including a hour of two-up riding with the nice weather we had today. It has held steady at 40lbs. Crossing my fingers it holds for a long while. I did not have a valve stem removal tool handy either. Rebent a small cotter pin from the junk pile so the ends were the same lenght. Fits perfectly either side of the valve stem. A pair of pliers and it was out quickly.
  6. We ride 2 Up almost exclusively. With a combined weight of about350 lbs with gear, whats a good starting point for that rear shock? Do anyone recommend adding air to the fronts?
  7. Well wasn't THAT interesting.. we were working on a friend's Venture this evening and when I closed his right side bag, we heard a hiss of air, almost like a 'sigh' that lasted 2.5 seconds.. No joke.. Could it be air leaking out of the shock as I pressed down on the lid to close the side bag?? After a closer look, we discovered it was air escaping from the side bag.. It was So pronounced and loud to be noticeable.. SO very odd. I checked my buddy's bike and his also made a similar sound but of very much shorter duration.. I tried mine when I got home and nothing.. On the first bike we found the air escape from the drain vents under the bag.. Go figure.. Talk about a tight seal at the lid!
  8. I have my bike in my shop now and am in the process of giving it a good cleaning. I'm wondering what everyone uses to clean all of the parts that are hidden under the fairings/seat and side covers. There is a lot of dust and dirt in there. I blew out what I could with compressed air. I am reluctant to spray any water in these areas as it is mostly electrical stuff. Maybe I should just leave it alone. Ideas? Thanks JR
  9. A friend of mine has a 1999 Venture that has a air leak in his rear shock. Is their any fix for this or just get another shock. If a different shock is the fix what years will work?
  10. Well, it's official, I've crossed over to the DARKSIDE!! Um, that sounds ominous, doesn't it! Got the Kumho mounted today but destroyed my new air compressor in the process! Oh well, it is still under warranty. Haven't gotten use to the tire yet. Only put about 25 miles on it today. May have to adjust the air pressure a little bit. Started out with 45 psi. What's everyone else running? Ran it up to 85mph, a couple of times. No problems. Put in 2 oz of dynabeads and let me tell you, those things work! I know, I know, gota take it easy for a couple hundred miles! I guess it'll get broken in on the way to Crabshack this Sat.
  11. hi again,i was wondering about the rear suspension.i have an 83 venture with the manual air valve.i have been reading about the air pressure, different people ride with different air pressure.i was checking the bike and it seem to not have any air in the rear.i can tell when i get on it, it seem to be low.i hear it squeak like its all the way down on the shock i guess.i want to try to put air in it but not to much to hurt anything.i put a little in the front and i could see it rise real fast.i was wondering about the back.the wife wants to ride and i dont want her first ride to be bumpy and bottoming out.
  12. The Chrysler Air Raid Siren is the most powerful siren every built. It's the size of a car, and is powered by a 180Hp Chrysler Industrial V-8 HEMI gasoline engine. The sound is 138 dB at 100'! The Chrysler Air Raid Siren is so powerful that it can reportedly start fires with just the sound vibrations it produces. It can turn fog into rain, clearing the sky. It can produce an effective 70 dB air raid signal for a distance of two miles, and under proper conditions can be heard 30 to 50 miles away. Its advertised effective range was four miles in every direction. That's a long way! I thought information was cool. I found the site last year when searching for siren sound files to annoy my cube neighbor. Here're the .wav files. I'm gonna put it on my phone as a ringtone. But of particular interest was the comparative loudness information. We've talked before how the Stebel is rated at 139 dB... at 4". A jet engine taking off on afterburner is 130 dB at 50'. This monster is 139 dB at 100'! Wow! Dave
  13. You can just call me Grandpa now! My son, Jantzen, who is in the Air Force and based in New Mexico, is currently serving in Afghanistan. His wife is also in the Air Force and still in New Mexico. They had a son (my first grandchild) yesterday.
  14. ... the dust from your PC. Just a friendly reminder to everyone to check your PC’s (Personal Computer’s) for internal dust, especially around the cooling fans and power supply. I took my unit outside today, opened it up and took the air hose to it now it’s as clean as a whistle! Yes I know, it's hard to unplug from VentureRider.org but it will only take you a moment. Besides, if it hasn’t been done in a while it might just save yourself power supply problems down the road. If you don’t have a compressor with ‘dry air’ you can buy compressed air in a spray can. Don’t forget to unplug!
  15. The answer was provided by Bill Adbou and posted as a performance tweak, I have included his tweak for your review: Air Filter Buckling The air filters have a hard plastic base and top with the filter element in the middle. Where the filter attaches to the black base housing, it is forced down and allowed to buckle, causing the element to seperate from the base. I am sure yours is the same way. I got new ones from my dealer, no questions asked, andinstalled them with a 2 inch piece of 5/8" heater hose at the top which keeps downward pressure on the filter once the top housing is in place. It takes a little force to assemble it, but once it's together it will stay. Note: use of a horse shoe piece of foam cut to 5/8" thickness, with the open pointing forward, so as to not interfere with the air flow from the air box opening. Thanks for everyones input, as my newly acquired 1988 Venture had this modification.
  16. I ran across a comment of placing a horse shoe shape pieces of foam on the top of the air filter on a 1st Gen bike. What is the purpose to this piece of foam and in what orientation towards the driver or away. cimack77
  17. I had a full day installing an air horn and the Electric Connections LED brake lights. I mounted the air horn on the front of my RSTD on the plactic dirt gaurd located at the top of the forks. just drilled and hole and bolted and it works well. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. On the LED ring lights that mount inside of the rear turn signs had four of the 12 LED's blown! Know I'll I have to take it all apart and return fro a new one. Just my luck. Got the bike all back togetehr and my new spark plugs arrived in the mail!!! I'll save that job for mext week:97:
  18. Has any one put on different pipes & Put on a high flow air cleaners, mening throwing the air cleaners away & puting on a hihg flow unit. then jetting the carbs to match, With a dino & gas meter? Im not looking for more power, But more then 34 mpg. My o8 Venture has good power, But the mpg sucks! My thery is to give it more air & get rid of it with less restriction. Then set the carbs to match would help a lot. Just wondering if any one has did this & what the resolts were???????
  19. My Air Cutoff Diaphragms are Fubared. Do I need to spend the extra $100 to replace all four? What is their effect on driveability?
  20. I can not for the life of me find any place including the factory manual what the Pilot Air Screw Factory Settings are,. I hear so many different story's that there different on each carb. so what were they originally before everybody set them to 2.5 turns out? So does anybody remember or have there note's on each carb number what there settings used to be? Thanks, Jeff
  21. After you have done the crankcase vent mod, have any of you then had any problems with oil leaks or going through more oil? I have done the mod to my 84 and got a very slow leak afterwords. I also put a vacuum cap over the orifice that the PCV valve went to on the air cleaner, which then mad it sound as if a tribble was stuck in my air box. I'm guessing the air was blowing over the orifice on the inside of the air box making it whistle a bit. Kind of like blowing across the top of an empty rifle shell. I'm gonna undo the little mod this spring and see if things change. PCV = Positive Crank Ventilation. When installed it creates a slight negative pressure, (vacuum), in the crankcase. So if there happens to be a small leak somewhere or a worn seal, the negative pressure won't let the oil leak out. If the PCV valve is eliminated, the result may be a positive pressure inside the crankcase as the engine warms up, and due to blow by. Which then might cause a seal or gasket to weep a bit of oil that might not have done so before. I tried this on my 78 F100 once just to test my theory. The results confirmed my suspicions. Any thoughts?
  22. i am burning the threads up tonight.i guess i got so mant question about the bike.how does the air adjustment work.i know there is a contol near the key hole and down near damper.how do i know that they are working .the last owner said they worked fine i dont have a manual with the bike so i have to rely on the owners and expert of these bikes.firt bike i owned with air ride adjustments. thanks again, breezelasbre

  24. Why Me??? But at least it happened in my driveway. Hopped on the RSTC to run a quick errand this afternoon and noticed it did not wanna turn out into the street. Yup, front tire was VERY low. Got the air compressor and pumped it back up. When I took the chuck off, noticed air coming out from the valve stem. It is torn just above the wheel rim. Cannot for the life of me understand what could have pushed it sideways enough to tear it. Oh well!!! As I don't have a M/C jack, just a 2-ton small floor jack anyone have suggestions on how to jack it up enough to get the front wheel off. I'm thinking about running it up on my trailer (it will hold air long enough to do this) where I can tie it off in the rear to hold it upright, then using a 2X4 under the engine to lift the front wheel.
