This is the Thread I'm referring to http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1056 The thread is used on a 1st. Gen Venture while I'm thinking of doing this on a 2nd. Gen Venture. Any help would be appriciated..

Got the bike torn down right now. What a PIA tracing those wires. Got the covers off too. I need to pick me up some heat shrink tubing as well as a heat gun and a mini-torch (sorry margaret...LOL) to heat up those stupid phillips head bolts that Yamaha installed with loctite. Ill be replacing those with either an allen head or hex head bolts. Yep, im taking pics as I go along too for future reference. Got 16 pics so far. The stator has a longer wiring harness so the whole wiring can be re-routed to make soldering the connections easier. More later........ :mo money::mo money:

anybody know a good v-star tech site, so far the ones I've found seem pretty excited to be able to change their own oil. My buddy's 1100 got some serious elec issues. I think we might have to replace the enitre main wiring harness but that sounds pretty spendy so were trying to pin out each cable. need a better wiring digram for the cables themselves.

What are you all using for wiring connections for towing? McHitch has a two piece circuit but it costs around $100. There has to be a better way. Any suggestions???

I'm back again looking for the best help....I just bought a Arlen Ness license plate frame with LED lighting for brake and taillight. I saw Free Birds wiring for extra lights which is great but was wondering if I can hook right into wiring that is just above tail light on 08 RSTD. until I get to the colder months and have more down time. Thanks Kelly

I am brand new, and thanks to Lonestarmedic I have found a great group to talk about my project. I purchased a 87 VR in fair condition, (runs good, looks bad) but the prior owner tried to rewire the lighting and now nothing works, I have the tech manual on disk and all the wiring diagrams. The problem is that he cut and tried to splice everything instead of following where they went. Am I going to have to remove all tape from everything and trace from each light to the fuse box, or is it easier to buy a new wiring harness? I am not as worried about asthetics as I want to get it legal so that my Duramax can get a rest on good sunny days. Thanks in advance

I blew a couple of fuses which go to the radiator fan over the course of three weeks or so. I came up with some time to investigate the reason for blowing these fuses, and I also had a new package of assorted fuses. A fuse is a fuse right? I found them while visiting one of those cheap Chinese tool establishments. A whole package of 20 fuses for just a couple of bucks! Anyway, I plugged a fresh new 10 amp in, turned on the key and proceeded into my shop to retrieve my meter to do a little resistance checking. As I turned and walked toward my sweet '86 now parked in the driveway, I saw a mushroom shaped plume of smoke rising from my bike. I screamed to my bike, turned off the ignition and looked to see if I needed to grab a water hose. The smoke cleared and it was evident whatever was burning had stopped. First thing I checked was the fresh new fuse I had just installed. The freakin' plastic surrounding the element was melted away but the metal element was as good as new. Heck, I could've looped a piece of clothes hanger and got that result! Anyway, after tearing apart the wiring harness, replacing all the fried wiring which was now just strands of charred copper and melted insulation, I went to NAPA and bought good fuses. It's been three weeks with no new burned fuses and the fan works great. Lesson learned. Maybe this post will save you from the same experience.

Has anyone ever had the wiring harness replaced on their RSV? The Yama dealer is replacing a sub harness and may have to replace the entire harness. I'm not real secure with this. Just seems like it may cause more problems than what I'm having already. Glenn

I've got an 04 RSV and anyone who drives one knows the horn sounds like the cheapest thing Yamaha could find. Has anyone replaced theirs and were there any issues in changing it? How powerful of a horn can you install before there are some wiring issues?

My horns are stock and are not working. Both wires going to the horns are hot. Shouldn't one of them be a ground? Thanks for any help. Jackie

Greetings... Anyone ever dissasemble the power Amp on a 1st gen? I've seen a lot of people complaining that the left channel cuts out intermittantly, and mine has been doing it since I got the bike. It's NOT a wiring or ground problem - AFTER the amp. I've isolated, at least MY problem to, at least the amp. (New speaker and ALL new wire hooked up directly.) I've noticed that it's failure is consistent with tempurature change. On cool days, or cool nights - it cuts off and pretty much stays off, or if it's on, it's affected by bumps. During really hot days - it will pretty much stay on all day and NOT be affected by bumps in the road. Unless I park in the shade! When it cuts out - I can frequently turn the radio off and on restoring it. Where it will usually then cut out (when I'm in the shade!)after a few seconds or minutes. That tells me that it's probably a cracked solder on the left channel speaker output. The intercom output is unaffected. I've already cleaned and shimmed the blue interface connectors, cleaned all connectors, and tried a hard wired connection bypassing the wiring harness... Before I tear it all out and dissasemble it to trace the line - I was wondering if this was a known problem, or if anyone else has already figured out a common failure point...

I am installing a CB on my scoot and need a wiring diagram of what wire is what on the CB unit ('86 and up) as well as the PTT/Channel switch assembly. I do not have the wiring assembly that goes with the CB installation so I need a schematic so I can hardwire the system. I know of at least one other member that may need the same information. Help!!!

Anyone have the speaker wiring diagram showing the stock amp? I'm having the cutting out issue after adding an amp. Someone had mentioned they'd had issues with the stock amp doing that when it was turned up too high. Anyone have a schematic so I can find the stock amp and bypass it for my amp in the cassette door?

The battery warning light is on for the battery!! looking through service manuals it indicates, the fluid level is low! It's a new battery freshly charged. could it be the resistor for the indicator? I stripped everything down to check all wiring for the safety, and all wiring is fine. All grounds are good. Any ideas???

The battery is looking like a rat's nest with the extra wires (heated clothes wiring, stebel horn wiring, etc.) and I am adding a fuse block to clean it up. Where have you mounted one of these? I ordered a Centech2 from CycleGadgets and it should be here Friday for installation this weekend. Suggestions? Thanks, RR

Hubby asked if I would jump on the website (we don't have internet at home) and find out from you guys if wiring from the Venture (tail lights and blinkers)to a new carrier he's made that sits behind the bike is easy or if he needs to do anything special. I'm not sure what thread I'm looking for about wiring. He's planning on doing it tonight so any help would be appreciated!

My bike is in the shop for warranty work but plan on wiring an XM radio, the roady 2, once it gets back to me. my question is I want to hard wire it in but have heard that the best idea is to wire it into something that only comes on with the ignition keyed. Any recommendations on what to tap it into?

My Rear Head Set Does Not Work
TESchoener posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
HI FOLKS... Just received our new YAMAHA official Head sets. Both are installed into our helmets. BOTH work from the rider's jack. When we plug in to the back passanger jack....neither work. So it's somewhere in the wiring to the jack. . What do I do and where do I start my search to fix the rear set??? Thanks to anyone who can help. It looks to me that the trunk has to be removed to get to the wiring. Remove both seats also???? Tom Schoener -
Ok,I have read all the posts I can about wiring up a trailer. I am challenged on electrical. Here is the deal. I bought a new MCT trailer that has all LED lighting. Do I REALLY need an Isolator? If so what is the EASIEST one to put on. If it isnt REAL easy I will have to find a local member here in the San Antonio area that knows how to hook them up.Remember I am slightly color blind but my wife can help on that.It has the small round hookup plug if that makes a difference. Thanks,Tom

OK, so I'm technically challenged!! I got the Electrical Connection Taillight Conversion Kit, sounded like a good and Easy idea for the 2008 RSV.. I figured out the wiring connections, but darned if I can figure out how to get the turn signal bulb grommet out of the lollipop without tearing it up. I believe this must be removed so the wiring can follow the same path as the original wiring. Also there is no slack in the wiring even after removing the lollipop from the fender so no room to play with. If it's only a matter of pull&rip, I can get the grommet out, but I'd rather not. While I'm in there I'd like to replace that FUBAR light socket with an 1157 socket. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've had her apart for 2 days now and I've scratched a bald spot on the 'ol noggin.
