  1. I have been thinking about getting a new bike and keep saying "get another Venture" but then again I stop and consider all of it's shortcomings? ---It's dog slow ---It does not have fuel injection ---It does not have ABS Brakes ---It even has a casette and even Walmart does not sell them things anymore ---The speakers cry-out for UPGRADE Hold on: Maybe I should tell you why I say these things. "I have an 06 FJR1300 with ABS, Fuel injection and it's a pleasure to drive and even puts a smile on your face just pulling out of the drive", whereas riding that bull of a Venture is like having to struggle to get a big ole fat man to move out of it's shadow"....If you kno what I mean. But, then again I think of what I will have to put-out to get all of those qualities, ie., 22,000.00 Gold Bling and that's when I come to realize that that ole Venture is a bargan with it's 5-year warranty at the discounted price of 15,000.00 that you can easily find. Then, I cross my fingers and hope that Yamaha can see the light and come-up with a better motor with fuel injection, ABS brakes, AM/FM/MP3/CB and so because I like their bikes. O' well, What's life without wishing.....and by tha way, If you are ever at a place where this bike is for demo http://www.triumphrocket.com/ make sure you ride it because It will give you a whole new take on big-bike performance. Whew!
  2. I ran across this while surfing. http://www.govdeals.com/eas/itmDisplay.cfm?itemID=11&acctID=1589 Ad says 1984 but it sure looks newer than a 1985. I didn't know they made Venture police bikes.
  3. After a life long dream of having I finally got!! 1986 Venture Royale. Does anyone know, can tell me, will the plastic off an 83 fit on an 86? Where can I get the remote radio controls for the left handle bars? How to cure a "hard start" on cool (not really cold) mornings? Yes, as you can see, I am new to the Venture thing. But hopefully with the help of some veterans, I will be out and riding very very soon. Thanks. Ohedron42 merlin
  4. Ok, ok I blew it on the question for a 73 Venture. I was testing ya's. My friend says it is a 87 or 88. The color is blue with 30,000 miles. His Uncle wants to sell it for $3000.00 What kind of things should I have my friend look out for? If there is anything, to look out for!

    Newbie Questions

Hi All, I used to have a 1983 Venture, went a LOT of place on her, she had a good soul. Next bought a 2001 Kawasaki Voyager, a nice enough bike, but didn't care much for the handling, powerband , etc. Anyway, I just bought a 2006 venture about a month ago. Loving it so far, except for "the whine". Sometimes it REALLY annoys me, other times I don't even notice. Took a 400 mile ride to Vermont and back last Saturday, was LOVING the bike. Anyway, does anyone have any advice about installing Sirius Radio on the Venture? Any recommendations on engine oil? I used castrol synthetic in my Voyager, seemed to work well. Any recommendations on Highway pegs or boards? Look Forward To Hearing Back, Thank You Marty

    73 Venture

I have a friend that has a uncle that wants to sell a 73 Venture for $3000.00 with 30,000 miles on it. Is that a good price ? Also, what should he look out for? Thanks
  7. I recently posted a comment regarding my first ride of the 2008 season and how happy I am with my V-Max rear end exchange. Anyway...some interest developed and I have decided to post some of my comments over here for others to see and add to. I know others here have also done this exchange, including Don (Freebird) and with this being the start of the riding season for most I thought others might like to hear about this exchange. Well this is a most unusual year for me. Usually my first ride of the season here in Western New York the temperatures are in the high 30's to mid 40's. Today the temps seemed to be in the mid-60's to low 70's and this is the first year I waited so long to get in my first ride of the year. Put on about 115 miles and the bike purred like a kitten. She was put away with stabil and the octane seemed just fine. I filled up and found that I got around 36 mpg (riding her hard). I did the VMax swap out so I was pleased with the mileage because I hoped on the Thruway and rode around 70-75mph. I took it up to 100 mph a couple of times to make sure the plugs stayed clean and the gas burned fast. The VMax swap out is the absolute best performance improvement you can do for the Venture with a modest investment! The V-Max swap out is taking the rear end gears from the V-Max and putting them into the Venture. There is a vendor who is listed here "Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax" from the Eastern Pennsylvania area who specializes in doing this. The gearing in the V-Max, when placed in the Venture will lower 5th gear (not as high) and add more torque in all the lower gears, which improves two up riding and towing a trailer. Many of us believe that this is the way Yamaha should have went in the first place. Interestingly, many V-Max riders prefer the Venture set up as it gives them a higher 5th gear. A few of us here, including our host Don (Freebird) have done this swap out. Blue Ridge will sell you the rear-end (with the appropriate drill out for your speedo connection) for around $300.00 with you sending him your Venture rear-end gears as a core exchange. My daughter lives in Pa. about 15 minutes from John's shop (Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax). John is an interesting fellow, specializes in V-Max's and custom bikes. After talking to John and others about the swap-out the wife and I visited our daughter for a week last Labor Day and I had John perform the swap out. The difference was night and day, best improvement I have ever seen on a bike, plenty of power and torque in all gears, no problem two up in hills or while towing...ride improvement was considerable and no more lugging while running through small towns. There are links here to Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax...but here is their site address... http://www.rmsportmax.com/ Everytime I hop on this bike now I am satisfied and impressed with this improvement!
  8. Thanks to everyone who helped with the rear pad install, brake bleeding and initial start up of my newly found 87' venture royale. If you followed the post the bike was stored in a chicken coop for about five years and was absolutly filthy and covered with, well chicken poop! So after putting the bike back together I decided to give her a good cleaning which involved a garden hose and degreaser. After drying and starting the Venture for more adjustments I now have a rough idle, almost like a dead misfire, and the tach bounces around at will. So the question is...where did water go the it should not have? I am new to the Venture scene so please explain clearly the locations I need to look at. Thanks in advance Dave
  9. I think I've settled on buying a "Cyclemate Zephyr." There's a lot of opinions on trailers and I was just wondering if anyone has this trailer and how it will pull with a second generation Venture?? Also, will there be many trailer vendors at Spring Fling???? Eddie Flinchum--Winchester, Ky.
  10. hey all getting ready to buy venture next couple of weeks and i will be in sanford from 18-22 of this month actually this weekend and wondering if someone would meet up with me and let me look over your venture and hear it run. Thanks Brian D.
  11. Hi all, just sold Suzuki Volusia over weekend and ready to purchase new Venture, sat on one @ Christmas with wife on back and felt good and stable with feet on ground no problem,as i read post on here i see alot of people dropping the venture, that concerns me in that the weight difference from volusia to venture is about 270lbs more. any thoughts or imput appreciated since i want to make a purchase on one in next two weeks and prefer not to drop.. Thanks Brian D.
  12. Hi everyone, I am new to this forum but have spent much time on the Delphi Kawasaki Nomad forum. I sold my 05' Nomad and recently loaded a 87' Venture Royale on my trailer . I really wanted a full dresser anyway! The bike belonged to a good friend of mine and has spent the last 5 years in a chicken coop gathering both dust and rust. With 79,000 miles on the odometer I added some fuel and a fresh battery, hit the start button and she fired up. Won't idle yet but is starting to smooth out.. The mufflers are gutted and covered with rust from the header pipes back. In fact most of the chrome is pitted from the chicken manure ammonia. Is there a source for a complete aftermarket exhaust system which also does away with the collector? I have all the electrics working properly except for the compressor which is more than likely a bad connection at the rear of the board . One more item in which I have not looked at closely....hard to find neutral while running , not a problem with the switch off...there is a good amount of play in all the shift linkage. Is that available? And lastly, Is there a good source for aftermarket parts for the 87' Venture like there is for the Goldwings? Oh, I live in Southern Pennsylvania.. Regards Dave
  13. I am confused. My 1999 Venture called out for a Yamaha 3FV-13440-10-00 oil filter. My 2004 and my 2007 Ventures call out for a 5GH-13440-00-00. Some dealers give me one type, others give me the other type for my 2007. When I asked, they don't know the differance and claim you can use either one. I see after market brands call for the same one on most Yamaha, Honda, and Kawasaki bikes. Anyone have any knowledge?:confused24:
  14. I was hoping some of you could share with me the best ways you have found to tie down your Venture. There are times I will have to put it in the back of my pickup. I have made a wheel chock that will sit in the front of the box to keep the front wheel in place. There seems to be no place to attach tie down straps that doesnt interfere with the fairing. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks JR
  15. I have a 84 venture royale. When the engine is warm it turns over very slow while starting. This happens even when the battery is fully charged? My bought this bike 5 years ago from my brother who owned it for 10 years before me. he said it had always done this for him also. Anyone hear of this problem before?
  16. Just messin around on youtube and ran across this... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOUbPUOgtuM&feature=related]YouTube - Royal Star Venture Khrome Werks V2 Cont.[/ame] Sounds good...

    If anybody's looking,,,

for a new Venture, Yamaha/Suzuki/Polaris of Louisville has 2, one '07 Blue/Black, and one '08 Black Cherry/Black. I hadn't really kept up with the color changes or the few "cosmetic" changes on the later models. I saw that Stratcat's '07 Midnight has pillow seats, as do both on the dealer floor. I also noticed the brake/clutch levers are a little beefier than mine too. I was looking on the Star website and saw there's no Midnight model for '08, but an S model instead. Is that the Silver/Silver model? Guess I'm a little behind on the few changes they've made. I stopped at the dealer here in E'town this week to get some oil and the parts guy told me that he's heard rumblings of some changes engine-wise for the Venture, and he kinda thought it maybe was going to be tied to the new V-max that's coming out this summer.
  18. Where can I find a pic, illustration, etc. of the Venture logo? Not the Yamaha star, the fancy looking "V". Don H.
  19. I am seriously considering purchasing a mint 2003 Venture. I know they are wonderful bikes and that every bike no matter what it is has some ticks, issues and problems. I would like to know what this model's are. Thanks so very much in advance... George When I go, I want to go like my grandfather, quietly in his sleep. Not like the screaming passengers in his car.

    Seat removal II

Hi, Thank you guys for the response, I did get one of the nuts off, but I absolutely cannot get the other one (on the left) off. The flange seems to be in the way. Any ideas???? Thanks. 2002 Venture
  21. I have been using seafoam in my Venture, cars and boat for years, but besides the gas tank, I usually suck a couple oz's into the brake booster vac line and let it sit for 10 min. This gets the valves wet with full strengh seafoam and desoves the carbon build up. Is there any vaccuum line on my venture that will feed all cylinders? Or maybe a differant way of doing this? Thanks
  22. I was called by my local Yamaha Shop and asked if I'd like to do a 2 hour, sit down with the Yamaha Venture Makers, to talk about what WE think of the bike, and is there room for improvement. Please don't attack me with responces. But generally, I guess my questions would be for the newer Ventures 2nd Gen. What do you fell would improve the buying market for this bike? I'm meeting with them in two weeks. I have the floor for 20 minutes. so help me out with the question. I for one would like more factory access. Light bars, Back rests, passanger arm rests. CD player, upgraded speakers. windsheilds with vents I'm going to talk to them about the drive shaft issues.
  23. hey i have a 84 venture royale, i got it a year ago and over the winter have been tryin to understand it. the diagram in my shop manuel says there is supposed to be a headfone jack. where is this located and what does the intercom button do? is this a part of the head set thig?
  24. Does anyone have a set of tank badges from a Venture in good shape collecting dust in their garage? If so what do you want for them? Thanks!
  25. Anyone know what an error code "E4 is on a 1989 Venture
