  1. Get you mind back on Bikes! Darlene is a stock 2006 RSTD with 20k miles...... When the she is cold, I hear a groan when I climb on....Be nice! The groan seems to go away after I have ridden her a bit.... Oh, jeez! The dealer says that the Yamaha rep. has told him to take out the rear shock and lubricate it and all moving parts.... So having read many posts on here about this shock, I don't recall any that discussed removing and lubrication. The shock is not leaking as far as I can tell, but.... Am I being slow-rolled by the dealer/rep? The bike is still under warranty for another month. Many thanks....Steve ****UPDATE**** ****UPDATE**** Well, after a slight delay due to weather and health, I brought Darlene to another dealer who lubed everything up and still heard the groan. They told me today that they have ordered a new shock under warranty. This is a wonderful site and I am the grateful recipient of many tips from the others on here. I trust now that Darlene's action beneath me will be as energetic as when she was younger, but I'll probably miss her groan...................
  2. Hi guys, I just purchased a 2009 Venture with only 1480 miles on it. It ran fine when I bought it but now the rear two cylinders do not seem to be getting any gas. I checked for spark and it has lots of spark. Compression seems good. I changed the spark plugs, checked all of my fuses. The bike fires up no problem, I let it run for about 15 mins but only the front cylinders get hot, the backs are cold. Any ideas? I purchased the bike on ebay from a dealer, not a yamaha dealer, in the States and shipped it to Canada so, I do not have a warranty. Before I take it to the dealer here and then have to see a proctologist, I wanted to get some ideas. Brian
  3. I've got one for you electrically inclined. My cousin's 07 RSV ( with 7000 miles on it) would not start. Let me give you the symptoms. When he turned the key on, the lights came on, the speedometer, gas gauge, everything came up and was doing its thing like its supposed to. When he hit the start button, everything goes dead. Well, he thought it was the 30 amp main fuse cause everything went dead. He pulled the fuse, installed another one and it cranked right up. Okay, this happened a couple of more times, so he ohmed the fuse and it was okay. So, it hadn't been blowing the fuse, the fuse is good, but the only way he can get it to start is pull the main fuse, like its resetting something, put the fuse back in, and then it will start. Its still under warranty and he's going to try to get it into the dealer next week, but I thought I'd run it by you all and see what ya thought. When he takes it to the dealer, I'll let everyone know what they find out. Thanks, Glenn
  4. Without Bongo, I'd still be searching for smooth chrome engine breathers...which I have been on the hunt for, for quite some time..... Highland's Yamaha will not ship to Canada, will not ship to an American address if the credit card you use is Canadian, or your paypal addy is Canadian??? Must be some history there.... Dan in parts told me yesterday he would hold the covers for one day.....and when Bongobob called them today...lo and behold, they had sold them to somebody else:shock3:. What the heck? Soooooooo.......... Bongo went to his local dealer, Pioneer, who are going to be at Don's MD...and they didn't have any, but they were GREAT enough to do a search and found some at another dealer. Bongo ordered them on my behalf.....and the rest is history!! Now if that isn't going above and beyond.....I am so glad that I'm a member of this site...the folks, people and all others are just the best. Just think of how dang purty my bike is gonna be now!!! In all seriousness, I am always proud when I read stories like this on our forum here....the word FAMILY comes to mind, big time. My THANKS to Bongo..... gunk
  5. I posted about this new dealer back in Dec. 08. I liked the place and its people. I drove by today and saw a Going our of Business sign up. I have a $50 gift card so I need to go by there before it's too late. This dealership was only 2-3 miles from my home which was nice. Colgan Powersports. Manassas Va.
  6. I have used an online store called boats.net to buy parts in the past. Since I haven't had many problems so not all that often but they have good prices. They are a boat place but they can sell motorcycle parts because they are a Yamaha dealer. I recieved an email from them that they have established a sister website dedicated to powersports. Here is a link to that site. http://www.powersportsplus.com/?utm_source=boatsnet-customer&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=meet-our-sister They will give an extra 15% off for a while. The code is MEETSISTER.
  7. i've been to every dealer within a 100miles of ma looking for a 2010 black (raven) venture do any of you know of anydealership that actually has one on their showroom floor. if so i'd like a name and number for them thanks:thumbsup:
  8. Anyone live close to Colorado Springs that do their own tires? I'll need to put a new set on before the next riding season and would rather pay a member here to do it than the dealer or someone I don't know...If no one does their own, anyone got a suggestion for someone you've used that did a good job and didn't charge too much? thanks!
  9. Hello all I am looking ot find a new 2008 Charcoal Silver or 2009 Sandstone/Raven RSV. I live in WV but am willing to travel some. There is a dealer about 70 miles from me that has the 2009, for $16k. Felt that was pretty high. (input please) It will be March/April time frame for my purchase, but starting to get ducks in a row now. If any of you are at your local dealer and notice one of these, please post or email me directly. My local dealers are shady at best for helping locate a bike they won't make any $$$ on. I currently ride a 2008 Kawasaki ZX-14, but can't wait to get back into the slower paced ride of life. I got rid of a Honda Sabre and Kawasaki Concours, 1st gen, when I got the 14, now I want to replace both of those with the RSV. The ZX will not leave, cause there is just something about the "go fast" aspect I can't seem to grow out of. Thanks for the anticipated help. Chris
  10. Ok was this close to getting a Vision Tourer yesterday until the following: The Victory dealer was a pleasant surprise, he took the time (about 5 hours), he let both my wife and I ride the bike (most dealers around will not allow that to happen) and at the end wanted to know what needed to be done to the bike to make it better. From what I have read, the 2011 was supposed to have the tranny, but on this bike the tranny during shifting banged (clunked) whatever noise you want to call it, but this did not feel or sound right from what everyone was saying about the new tranny. Once we got on the open roads, huge vibrations at all mph and in any gear, NOT what I expected to have happen on this bike. Told dealer about the issues, mechanic came out and said nature of the beast. Dealer let me test ride the Victory Vision 8 Ball (2011). Came back and told dealer, DAY and Night difference in the tranny and no vibration like I felt with the VV Tourer (2011). Dealer told me he agreed with my assessment, they are going to have the Victory Tech take a look at the bike. Later on that night did some more digging, come to find out the VV 8 ball uses cable actuated clutch, not the hydrolic actuated clutch. Other VV Tourer owners are having their bikes converted to the cable version, no clunks or bangs and shifting much smoother. Next was the Mechanic's area (passenger), she said the seat felt great and loved the heated seat (great day yesterday for testing that), but NO ROOM, she was practically sitting on my back. Dealer could not believe the Venture had that much room for the passenger, but he is convinced now. She was fidgeting the whole 75 mile test ride. But for the rider loved the ergonomics of the bike, just to many issues with the mechanics and passenger area. If it was just me, I would have this bike over the Venture due to the ergonomics of the rider area. The clutch and vibration can be fixed, but not the passenger room. But I will be keeping the Venture for now, just hoping Yamaha comes out with a surprise for 2012.
  11. Our local Yamaha Dealer "Oxford Michigan" will close the doors this week. Everything is 50 per cent off. I guess another dealer took all the bikes off his hands. I got some oil, air cleaners, brake pads both front and rear, chain lube, "for my DRZ", cleaning supplies and some other stuff. What a shame. They always treated me well. They were only 5 miles away. Now the nearest will be 20. Still not bad.
  12. On our way down to George and Bobbie's friday traveling down 95 Riderduke got a flat. We were at mile post 36 literally right at the marker. So he calls his insurance co progressive to get a tow truck Jeff called to find a dealer close by and find out what time they closed. Tow truck says it'll be there at 5:45 dealer closes at 5:30. Jeff and I rode to the dealer which was off exit 22 and about 1 1/2 miles down the street. Figured we could get the tire and worse case we'd already called Steve and he said he could get a trailer to get the bike. So We get to the dealer buy the tire and call David tow truck is suppose to be there shortly. Jeff leaves me at the dealer and heads back to help get the bike on the flat bed. This was 5 the tow truck didn't get there when they said and the bike finally got to the dealer about 7. By that time I was locked up inside the dealership still waiting. The guys were great and the mechanic got the tire changed and we were on our way. Oh and for future reference if ya break down here in NC don't let them call Brownies tow truck service. Since we hear so many terrible things about dealers thought it would be nice to let you know about a good one. We always have had great dealings with our local shop, nice to know we have two good dealers in the state. Margaret
  13. After trying a louder exhaust (barons 424). That seemed to help untill I got used to them or the whine got LOUDER. Well I decided after reading many posts on the subject to try the I basket. Went to my dealer and explained the problem, he checked with yamaha and ordered the I basket. After reading so many horror stories about the dealers not wanting to do this under warranty I thought I would have to argue but that was not the case. Dealer ordered the part and I checked that it was the I basket when it came in. I dropped the bike off yesterday and he called for me to pick up today. I must say that I'm AMAZED at how quiet it is. I'm VERY happy I had this done. Now I only hope it stays this quiet I guess only time will tell. Here's a link of the whine.....[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzN9EMtI0_s]YouTube - Yamaha royal star tour deluxe whine?[/ame] and I will try to post one of how it sounds now this weekend.

    Need help on a gun

I found a dealer that is cheaper than the dealers here in Tenn. I never bought a gun out of state from a dealer, so I called and was surprise I can't buy one unless it ship to a dealer here which he will make a profit and after all said and done I'm back at the prices here.. Is there a way around this?
  15. Left the house with the better half with all intentions to head for the local Yamaha Dealer to buy a brand new Venture. But, got side tracked and stopped by the local Toyota dealer. Came home with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma double cab all dressed out. Oh well, that'll teach me. Maybe next time.
  16. So I was washing the bike and I noticed that one of the tabs that holds on the left lower is broken. It is number 7 in the pic below. This is actually not a bad one to break because the lower still seems to be attached fairly well. My question is this something the dealer will replace under warranty? And is it worth the inevitable argument with the service manager? David

    Shock replacement ideas

I think I've found my new (to me) RSV - its raspberry and champagne colors are beautiful, the frame is straight, the electronics all seem to work, and the finish is in perfect shape. It has Avon tires that I will double check for cracks, and a totaled rear shock. I will not accept the bike from the dealer as is, but is there something better than a Yamaha shock? Is there a major price difference? Should I insist on the aftermarket item, or is it just as good as the stock one. Anybody??????????
  18. I have a 2006 RSV and having some work done. While fairing is off I was going to upgrade the headlight to HID. Shop owner says older HID units in the 300-500 dollar range are ok but China has flooded market with cheap stuff that won't last. He said if I installed HID system from HID Country or the Canadian dealer that it would probably burn out and leave me lightless. Can anyone tell me about reliability issues(good & bad) of the HID systems? Any suggestions? I like plenty of light at night. What about HID passing lights?
  19. MY 2009 RSV had a fuel smell even when gas was shut off for hours after it was shutdown. Should it take the dealer over two weeks to get parts to fix this? he said 3 to 5 days for a carb gasket?
  20. I keep having a problem with my battery going dead. I rode my bike last thursday and didn't get to ride it this weekend because of the weather. I went out this morning to ride it to work and the battery is dead. A couple of months ago my dealer kept it for 2 weeks and checked everything on the bike and determined the recifier was bad so he replaced it and my battery under warranty. Now it's dead again. Man this is frustrating. I guess I better get back to the dealer as my warranty expires 9/3.
  21. I was calling around to various dealers to see if there were any late season deals to be had. One of which was a local HD dealer. He said he would do some checking around because they have independent dealers come in and buy the traded metric bikes. Miy tour deluxe is an 08 blue/black with 9700 miles on it right now. I told him aftermarket pipes, radio, driving lights, and Bakup seat rest all go along with stock pipes. He said hed make some calls. Boy he must have speed dial, cause it was 5 minutes and he called back. after checking around (im guessing maybe one dealer, or maybe just picking a number out of the air) he said the Yamaha dealer would give him 4 grand, but hed throw in an xtra grand. I kept my temper and was civil. I told him he was way off and that it wasnt even close to book value. He told me the dealer told him that it was a dead horse. I told him that the dead horse was gonna sit in the garage and rot before id do business with him.....but i was polite.
  22. Our harley dealer here in Albany, Georgia is closing. They have a salellite dealership on I 75 in Tifton, Georgia and will be moving everything from Albany to Tifton. The Albany dealership lost $500,000 last year. The Albany dealership has never been able to get it together. The current dealer is the third or fourth owner. The original owner was a perfect example of how not to run a business. He ran off more business than he got. The Tifton location has been doing very well. I wish them success.
  23. I took a trip form Montreal to Vancouver 14,000km over 28 days. What a trip nice ride, people, weather and scenary.Only one glitch in the trip The Yamaha dealer in Kelowna. We were three couples, two riding Honda's, and us with the Venture. We all needed an oil change so off we went my friends to Honda and me to Yamaha. Guess what? The dealer did not want to change my oil that day even if I mentionned I was leaving early next morning:bang head:. He said all was taken and their policy is not to take walk ins. They have two sites so the other one wanted me to leave the bike for the day and they would maybe fit me in. What should I do in the meantime with no ride????? not their problem. I ended up in a Victory :clap2:bike shop with great service and a friendly atmosphere, even if I was riding a Yamaha. Bought gloves while I was there, one hour later I was out and ready to ride. My message to the Kelowna dealer is he might be good in boats and four wheelers but as a bike shop he is unworthy of giving sevice and should not sell motorcycle. If they can't help the riders to continue their journey they are not a bike shop. Oh and talk about all the ribbing I got from my Honda friends. If I had a Harley, Victory, Honda, I would have had service but the Kelowna Yamaha dealer:thumbdown:, no sir. I had to pass this on and I am sending an email to their offices so they know how I feel. Thanks for reading.
  24. Good friend called yesterday. He and his wife stopped for gas not far from home. When he got back on the RSV it sounded like a goose underneath everytime he bounce on the seat. I asked him if it felt like a pogo stick, but that wasn't the case. I told him that I was 99% sure his mono shock gave up the ghost. He is taking it to the dealer for warranty. Whatcha think?
  25. I wanted to post a good comment about dealer Turn1 in Plymouth, Indiana. They are a dealer for Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, and Victory (and Polaris). I had tire troubles with my old Bushtec trailer on the trip to Potato Creek. After several stops and tele calls elsewhere trying to find new tires and tubes, Turn1 took care of me. They had tubes in stock, and ordered a pair of new tires for me which they installed on Thursday as I was leaving the International Rally. They were knowledgeable, and good to work with, and made time for me while I was on the road. And their prices seemed quite fair. I'll point out that they have a pair of new-old stock Ventures on the floor. A 2009 Red/Black, and a 2008 Silver S model. And a used 2009 Seashell/Raven. Also having a Victory factory truck demo days on July 30-31 which I wish I was nearby to take advantage of. http://turn1.com/
