  1. I am a less than a year member of this site(Its been Great). I will be leaving home tomorrow (If weather Permits), from Southeast Missouri and going to the Cincinnati area(to see my son). I have a 2006 rstd with 7800miles on it and would like some help syncing the carbs. I would gladly drive out of route to get this done and I would make it worth the time. Thanks if you can help.....The bike runs great, but I am having a little vibe in floor boards and tank. Thanks Larry:cool10::cool10:
  2. Is anyone riding up to Freebirds MD and going through or by Olive Hill or Grayson,Ky around 4:30 pm this Friday evening ? I will be going that way and my riding buddy JD had to cancel out on me due to his work schedule. So if anyone needs a riding pardoner then I will be ready at 4:30 pm kick stand up. I have traveled this route many times and usually just go to Grayson and take the AA HWY to cross bridge into Ohio and 104 to 386 over to 23 north and 270 west bypass to 71 north to Mansfield. I will stay with friends there and then on to Oberlin the next morning early. So if you need a riding friend to at least Mansfield ? PS: I was up that way just last Thursday, and want to let everyone know to please be aware of the roads up that way. Especially I-71 north, they are rough and down right dangerous for a motorcycle in a few places. Please take your time and I would not ride this route after dark. Fuzzy

  4. Okay, so the wife and I are leaving out on our first long road trip in June. I've been working on the trailer and plan to stay at campground along the way but am looking for someone willing to let us bunk up with them for a day or two along the way so we can shower and refresh ourselves. We will be going from Colorado Springs to Chicago, then following Route 66 down. We will be at the Eureka Springs Meet and Eat for that long weekend. Here's the map of our route: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=217067729114273134767.000498d3e23585862bb97&ll=41.376809,-96.37207&spn=22.416404,35.551758&t=h&z=5 And here's our trip book of some of the stops along the way. I had to remove the pictures to make it small enough to upload.... Nothing in it is set in stone but I wanted to at least have some ideas of things to see along the way. Although we would appreciate recommendations or VR Assistance at any of our stops along the way, if there is anyone in the Chicago area, we will be there on the 19th and 20th of Jun and need a place to sleep. Any recommendations of "must see" things anywhere along the route would be great as well! Thansk! Mike
  5. Actually, I kinda know where I am going, but thinking there might be something along the road that most people don't know about. My route... Leave Searcy, AR tomorrow morning and head up to Branson, MO to eat a BURGER and FRIES at Billy Bob's Dairyland on Hwy 76. From there, I'll ride another 30 minutes to Kimberling City to spend the night. The real journey starts at Paris Springs, MO (Gary's Sinclair on Route 66), and heading east. So anything unusual from there up to Cuba, MO which is where I am spending the night on Monday night (and eating at the Missouri Hick and staying at the Wagon Wheel Motel). On Tuesday...I'll head again East on Route 66 from just this side of St. Louis and then head back towards Arkansas down Hwy 67 South. So if ya know something cool to see...list it here. Thanks, Wally
  6. Longest rides I've taken in the past have been 3-4 day trips with my dad and brother, sleeping at rest stops on the side of the road when ever we got tired. Since I've got the RSV now, I want to take a "real" trip...I'm thinking about hitting eastern 1/2 of Route 66. Wife and I (2up) will head out from Colorado Springs and ride to Chicago. Then hit Route 66 and take it back down. I'll spend some time in OK with the family, then head back to Colorado Springs splitting off in NM. That will cover the east half...I'll hit the western half maybe later in the year or next year. Here's the map I plan to take: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&safe=on&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=217067729114273134767.000498d3e23585862bb97&t=h&z=6> This will be my first long trip and my first time pulling a trailer (cargo, not camper)... Couple of questions: 1. Any good motorcycle mapping programs? Google maps is okay but hard to get it to put me on scenic routes or specific highways (without a lot of work)... 2. Good rain gear that won't break the bank? 3. Suggestions on what not to take or what I MUST remember to take? 4. Any other suggestions for my first long run? Thanks! BTW: I would love to meet up with anyone that lives along our route that wants to visit or tag along for part of the ride! I know I'm new around here but it would be nice to meet some of you guys!
  7. Due to a change of plans we stayed longer in Milwaukee than we expected. Left Saturday morning at 6am and arrived back in Calgary 6:30 pm Sunday. The route we took: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Milwaukee,+WI,+United+States&daddr=47.10246,-104.76903+to:Calgary,+Alberta&geocode=Fba4kAIdVqfC-innR4tX1wIFiDGEe0G1IhlfRA%3BFfy5zgId-lnB-SkBqDKKlyclUzEvBPM-guKFxA%3BFYjiCgMd-p8z-SnVP4SfA3BxUzE6tlK2sTttJg&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=5&via=1&sll=47.04596,-100.983405&sspn=25.600726,47.724609&ie=UTF8&ll=47.338823,-100.898437&spn=25.461777,47.724609&z=5 was 1620 miles according to google...I'm tired this morning!
  8. Leaving Milwaukee tomorrow, thursday, and having some leeway as to where to go in a westerly direction...I was wondering if anyone could suggest a route to avoid the worst of it? Any roads beside the interstate that might be fun to go westerly?
  9. The Back To The Bricks car show/Cruise is going on in Flint Michigan now thru Saturday, Same time as the Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend. So the Daughter and I went down the cruise route to check out the cars. At the end of the route in Grand Blanc we pulled into the Grand Mall where all sort of things are going on. We were directed to a motorcycle parking area where next thing I know we are being registered for the motorcycle show. Lots of Harley's, old Honda's and my dirty Yamaha. It was a show what you rode kind if thing. The pictures are , my Bike and a PERFECT Honda CBX in line 6 cylinder. Have no idea who won because we left shortly after the tornado warning sirens started going off.
  10. Well, since I will not make it to Nelson, BC like I wanted to I figured I can still enjoy my ride to work... Both there and back. I will be departing Lubbock, Texas the morning of 4/July. Heading up to Rawlins, WY for the night. The following morning I'll depart Rawlins, head north following Highway 287 through Yellowstone all the way up to Whitehall, MT, where I will likely stop for the night. Then take the slab up to Spokane, Washington where I will have to decide whether to slab it all the way to Seattle or take US-2, 97, and Highway 20 to intersect with I-5 just north of Seattle. There will probably be an overnight stop sometime in there depending on which way I decide to go. Then the last day will land me at the Lab I will be working at in Vancouver, BC. This route seems better than slabbing it the whole way up there but for you folks that live in the Yellowstone area, I am DEFINITELY up for suggestions. I am looking to see quite a bit on the way but still make reasonable time. Same goes for folks in Washington, I am certainly up for route advice, and would appreciate any and all input. Route advice, the essential things to see and take dorky pictures of myself and bike along the way are all appreciated and welcomed. Thanks in advance! By the way, I plan on posting pictures along the way and some updates to this thread - just in case anyone is interested.
  11. I've lived in the Canton Ohio area for most of my life but this year will be my first time to watch the parade live. We have grandstand seating at the American Legion just about midway on the parade route, should be a fun day. Not going to the enshrinement, way too busy for me, not to mention we wouldn't be able to get within earshot of the proceedings.
  12. Riders come from far away to ride the roads of Northwest Connecticut. Routes 4, 7, 63, 44 and a whole bunch in between are lined with forest, rivers, gardens and quaint houses. And right over the state line to New York is Route 22, another great ride. http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u264/gibletdyckout/th_NWCTmap.jpg Here is the view from the top of Mohawk Mountain just down the road: http://www.ct.gov/dep/lib/dep/stateparks/forests/mohawk2.jpg And for you geezers it's helmets optional here. Come on over and check it out!
  13. The time is almost here. I have the whole month of July off and taking my new tent trailer and off I go to Las Vegas. My route down is planned but of course open to different sights as the days progress. My route home I will be winging it thru Texas to the ocean then to New Orleans. From there I have no idea yet. Stay safe everyone and I hope to keep checking in.
  14. Just thought I let everyone know that there is a section of US Hwy 212 in South Dakota that you might want to avoid. It is between Redfield and Faulkton SD. This section in packed gravel and dirt. The actual length of this section of "road" is 26 miles west of Redfield to the western edge of Redfield. There is no posted detour but google maps does show heading south on US Hwy 281 to SD 26 west and then going north on SD 45. Unfortunately I did take that route so I can attest to how it is, but I can tell you that the section of 212 wasnt fun at all. After getting over it and stopping in Faulkton, a local said it has been that way for a few years now with no completion date stated. I do know there was no construction equipment to be seen anywhere there. The rest of US 212 was a nice drive and well worth the ride if you are either heading out to the Black Hills or back from there. Just want to let you know in case you are planning on that route. Rick F.
  15. We're heading south in July and I'd like some help on the best route from Boston to Washington, DC. I know the route from here to Boston well, and I know where I'm going after I get to Washington. I looking for a fast route from Boston to Washington, but I don't want to get in heavy traffic. We'll be traveling this area on a Sunday. Washington is pretty much the beginning of this trip and Nashville is the destination with some nice riding in between (Skyline, Blueridge, Dragon, and a bunch of other roads). Any and all help is appreciated. John

  17. Hi! This Thursday I'm riding from Richmond to Rochester to visit relatives for the long weekend. My route is 95 - 17 - 15. Wave if you see me along the route of 500+ miles. My return is on the following Tuesday. Just look for my cherry/black two tone 2008 RSV. johnb
  18. I will be off to Las Vegas July 3rd leaving from Toronto Canada. We must always wear a helmet in Canada so I have a question about helmet laws in the following States? It would be a treat to feel the wind blow thru what little hair I have before it is all gone. Route down: Michigan Ohio Indiana Illinois Missouri Kansas Colorado New Mexico Arizona Nevada Possible route home: Texas Louisiana Mississippi Alabama Florida Georgia Tennessee Kentucky Any knowledge that you might have would be greatly appreciated.
  19. The wife and I are going to take a ride to Charlotte, NC (from Orlando), and I'm looking for scenic routes. We are planning on a 2-3 day ride up to Charlotte, spend a couple of days in the Charlotte area, then a 2-3 day ride back to FL, so we really aren't in a big hurry... So I'm asking the fine folks here for some route suggestions through GA, SC & NC. I prefer to use Interstates only as connectors (20-30 miles max)....everything else is fair game! Thanks!!
  20. The 22nd Run For The Wall http://www.rftw.org/ departed yesterday on their 10 day trip from California to DC. The ride is to promote healing among ALL veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world. There are 2 routes, a Central Route and a Southern route. I will be joining the SR Sunday morning in Terrell, TX to ride with them for 2 days to Meridian, MS. If you see a group of 300 to 400 bikes going down the highway between now and the Friday before Memorial Day you will know what it is. They will participate in Rolling Thunder http://www.rollingthundermotorcyclerally.com/ on Sunday May 30 which is more than 250,000 motorcycles riding thru the nations capital.
  21. will allow you to input your own routes? most threads have comments about the turn by turn voice directions. i like mapping out my own route and would like to download that into a GPS. Then get the turn by turn directions without having to look at the tank bag window.
  22. After installing risers, I've now rerouted the throttle cables 3 times, and they're still sticking when turned to the right. I also lubed them and it didn't seem to make any difference. For those of you who have been successful in getting the throttle not to stick at all via rerouting, exactly what route do your cables take? They originally went (starting from the left) around the steering neck, inside the front brake line, outside the right vertical bar of the inner fairing frame, and around the outside of the right side of the fork. That's the route shown in the service manual. I tried bringing them inside the inner fairing frame, no luck. I then tried outside the front brake line, still inside the inner fairing frame, and up, coming out by the top right of the triple tree, by the pinch bolts, no luck. So what route works? And for those of you who have purchased longer cables, where did you get them and how much did they cost?
  23. Hello all, I am soon to be planning my first long ride of this sort. I'll be leaving Toronto, Canada on Sat. July 3rd. and checking into a condo in Las Vegas on Sun July 11th for a week then returning to Toronto for Sun July 25th (Yes this is the time frame as the International Rally, so I will be missing it) I will be riding down on my own, and my wife will be flying down to Las Vegas for the week and I will be on my own for the ride home. I have just purchased a leesurlite tent trailer that I will be towing down for my nightly sleeping while on the road. ( I do not have possession of the trailer yet for any pictures) One of my many questions would be; roads, or sights that would be regretable for me to miss out on. Just looking at the maps it would look like the following States would be the most straight forward route: Michigan Ohio Indiana Illinois Missouri Kansas Colorado New Mexico Arizona Nevada The route home I was hoping to take a different way which may include different States. Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas, would be greatly appreciated as I soon want to start planning my route. Thanks Dave Dogman
  24. A Thank you goes out to all you gave their expertise opinion in trying to solve my computer problem After a case a beer and 7 hours my friend finally fixed it ( alternatre route) This all started when I update AVG 9.0 Free anti virus and it corrupted the Linksys wireless Thank you to all:clap2:
  25. I'm beginning to plan our big trip for next summer and we're planing to ride through Colorado again. Our plan is to ride from Santa Fe to Durango and on north the Rocky Mtn National Park. I need some advice on our route from Durango to Ridgeway. While I would like to make the complete loop of highways 550 and 145 but that would require backtracking. So my question is which route is the best ride if you can only go one way? Through Mesa Verde to 145 and on to 62 or just straight up 550? On the map 550 looks more interesting. Dennis
