  1. I finally got the oil plug out of the final drive. I dipped a doll rod down in it and came out with dark brown oil on the bottom and clear oil on top. Is the brown oil from water or just old?I have no clue when the rear end has been serviced. (just got the bike) Thanks Doug
  2. On Stars web site they show it with Black with flames, and dark gray is there a dark gray. or I may look at 09 dealer said it could get a 09 was not shure if it was tan & black or red and black. Would like the Red and Black,
  3. Ok I am running out of options. I got today a used TCI from a great member here and unfortunately it was bad. I cant find any on Ebay and I need one to hopefully finish out this years riding season. I'm going to tear into my Dead TCI as I have nothing to lose and see what is up, but without a schematic or any way to test it in a live working system I'll be shooting in the dark. I heard that an 84 TCI will run an 83 just not perfectly, Oh well it will get me on the road. So if you have a working TCI I'm after it. if you have a DEAD TCI I'd love it for the parts to see if I can fix mine. Thanks guys.
  4. I have crossed over to the Dark Side, well maybe it's more like gray. Titanium gray. This morning I traded in my '83 VR that I have in the classifieds on a Goldwing. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to the technical articles in this web site. Huge, huge help. There were two folks who had expressed an interest in my VR, but things kind of fell into place when this deal came along. Once again thanks for everyones friendship and expertise! Scott:7_6_3[1]:
  5. Oh man, no kidding, I'm wondering if this bike is jinxed now.. I was out tooling around the back roads this evening, trying to catch a cool breeze and on the back stretch of a winding road in the middle of no where.. POOF No LIGHTS!! NO Nuttin!! Holy crap batman.. I tossed on the 4 way hazards right away and you'd be surprised how much light they'll toss in pitch dark of night.. Barely enough to get the bike stopped without hitting anything etc.. Dashlight out, headlight out, highway lights out.. Dunno about the rear lights, wasn't too curious at that time as you can well imagine. Signals and 4ways worked ok.. I didn't hit a bump, didn't touch anything and there, right in the middle of a turn, poof. Talk about a heart attack in the making. All it turned out to be was a blown 15A fuse in the left side panel.. It was SO pitch dark I has to use the light of my cell phone to illuminate the work site lol.. literally so dark you couldn't see anything.. Ok, shyte happens once in a while but they all seem to be happening to me all at once.. the bike has over 46,000 miles on it, 2006 Midnight, just had the 4 coils and fuel pump replaced the other week.. How common is this fuze blowing? Is this something that happens on occasion or very rarely does it happen? I swear.. this bike gets more and more interesting every day..
  6. Well, after all the electric problems I have had and thought had overcome, a new one popped up last night. Most recall that I had upgraded the stator, rectifier/regulator, battery, ignition switch is new and all connections are tight and all plugs were seperated, cleaned and dialectrically greased. Bike was running better than ever. Last night as I was getting ready to leave for work, I went to fire the bike up. I disconnected the battery tender, turned the key on, waited a few seconds for the fuel pump to finish clicking then hit the starter button. Got half a whirr out of it then all went dark. Nothing, Nada....I turned it to accessory and the radio backlight light started pulsing for about 30 seconds then the radio came on. Nothing else came on, not even the signals. I tried going back to the on position but nothing still. I switched back to the acc and once again the radio backlight began a series of pulses before the radio came on. No presets were lost so the battery hasnt run down. A check today of the battery off the battery tender all night showed just under 13.00. I tried the switch and everything came on. Now I did hit the started switch while the DMM was connected and it went dark again. Went back to acc and the radio backlight started its pulsing dance again. If I hit the started button while the radio is on it goes dark until I let the button go, then the pulsing starts and a few seconds later the radio comes back on. So, since Im no electrical genius I would really appreciate some thorough advice here is laymans terms, before I start a bonfire in the middle of my driveway....
  7. the wife & I were south bound on our bike spotted 2 ventures going north, first bike was dark color, but second was a silver trike venture, anyone on this site?
  8. 08 Royal Star Venture - I purchased a cargo trailer (Cyclemate CM-1000) that has a "5 wire" system. Using the layout you see below everything works -- except the "4 way flashers" on the bike. When the trailer is plugged in they blink once and then go out. Unplug the trailer and they work fine. Dark green is the right turn signal. Dark brown is the left turn signal. Blue is the tail light. Yellow is the brake light. White is ground. Is there something I am missing? Thanks in advance Tom
  9. Hey actually saw another RSV right here in Twinsburg. Was rather surprised only ran into one other in the area last year. Wonder if anyone Knows who this would be. It was dark but I believe it was black cherry.
  10. Actually, that first pic is a Katana we bought when everything that is yellow was PINK and changed the color and re-sold. This is the first fitting of the fairing Shep had started. (Have modified it a little bit since and have some more adjusting to go) Will get more pics soon. I fab'ed the brackets from diamond plate aluminum, They are braced behind with 1/4" thick aluminum strap. Rode very well with just a little additional bounce up around 85 or so. Since then, have leaned it back a little more and squared it up a little better - solved the bounce problem. Using Stainless bolts and nuts everywhere. Went with an 8" dark smoke shield and deflectors. It is just about the perfect height - kind of wish would have gone with 9" but that might have been a little to much - Can see about 2-3 inches over it right now and topping a hill in the dark, you lose the road until you clear the crest so I think the 9" would have been to much. Plan on dropping it about another 1/4 to 1/2" to get it to wrap around the headlight a little better and filling the gap above the speedo with dark smoke acrylic. We have the stereo and speakers sitting in the office. We are just waiting to do the cleanup on the old speedo and tach holes and filling them and all the excess openings with fiberglass. Then it's waiting for a nice warm day to paint it. Trying to find a neat looking 2.25" Thermometer and clock on the cheap but no luck yet. I suspect we will fill the two small round holes with smoke plexi and stick on a clock and thermometer that we can find. More to come later - right now, building the house is taking precedence. Will update the RSTD Owners Unite thread when I have time.
  11. Sent you a pm regarding the seat...........
  12. Are you afraid to go out after dark? Then you need this! http://www.impactlab.com/2008/03/02/fmg9-prototype-9mm-folding-submachine-gun/
  13. tonight after a short ride downtown I noticed my right exhaust tip was turned off to one side. I turned it back and when I got home I couldnt see how its held on, didnt see a clamp to tighten it was a bit dark under there in the garage
  14. Just got home from picking up the 84 in South Carolina.Even in the dark I could still see the red bike on the trailer.
  15. Thanks to everyone's encouragement in a recent post I made in the "watering hole" forum I picked up the '89 venture from my dad over the weekend. With the bike on the center stand, in gear with the clutch lever engaged I am not able to spin the rear wheel. Looking at the fluid in the master cylinder, the fluid is very dark. I'll start by replacing the fluid and bleeding the clutch. If that does not fix it what are my next steps? Thanks in advance. ~Eric
  16. la went through st.louis mo. about 4:30 this afternoon. i was sound asleep but he talked to my wife for awhile. said he wanted to make springfield by dark. sure wish my wife would have woke me up. bill
  17. Ok trying to get my paint colors together. But I have a question. What is better Mica, Metallic, or Pearl? Is Mica and Metallic the same? Will be putting clearcoat over. Is there really a difference? I know they are not plain and I don't want Plain. Dark on Bottom or top? Think I have narrowed my Dark down to two color choices one is Mica other Metallic. Really like both colors.
  18. OK, I did it. a move to the dark side...bought a v-twin yesterday. sorry folks. skidrow
  19. Going to work at hospital last night and made wrong turn. Cut thru a alley and there sitting on a back porch was a 1st gen. House looks empty so I took a closer look. It is a 83-85 The side covers are gone and the bags are gone. Tags are 96. Tank is full of rust the worst I have ever seen. It is a light blue (Orion Silver?) and a dark blue. Darker than my 84 was. Covered porch so there might be some parts there. Only 22k on it. Good Engine? If not stuck. Plastic may be stored inside??? Got to go back and find somebody.
  20. Yea, I start it up and everything is good. After a couple of minutes the screen goes dark. I sure hope the monitor is not going out.
  21. Evidently over the years..the backrest(passengers) on the trunk of my bike has gotten very dirty and needs cleaned.I've only had this bike for 2 yrs,so all this dirt isn't my fault.During this past summer I'd put the bike up for sale and had it sitting out in the sun. What has happened is...all the (probably Armorall) thats been applied has had a melt down.In various places the leather has sticky spots on it. It almost reminds me of the sapp you get on a peach tree. In trying to remove it I've found the true color of the leather....Outside border is a dark brown, while the inner panel is a lighter brown. Problem is...it's not all coming off and it's blotchy at best.Heres the things I've tried so far. Armorall leather cleaner...Spic&Span...Murphys oil soap..and even finger nail remover (in small spot) nothing seems to get it all.The sale of the bike could hinge on me getting it cleaned OR if someone has a all dark brown one for sale. If you have a good one for sale let me know what you'd want for it...my email address is jachuck49@yahoo.com Thanks.
  22. Well if you are (which I am NOT) this might be a way to do it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-YAMAHA-ROYAL-STAR-MIDNIGHT-VENTURE-8450-D_W0QQitemZ280199104066QQihZ018QQcategoryZ50045QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  23. 3 venture tail/brake lights - hope to be seen in the dark. I commute and both ways are in the dark. So far battery has not quit on me!
  24. This was emailed to me, does anybody know who it might be? Looks like he may be on a 2nd gen, or gone to the dark side. If he was on a 1st gen he would be smiling of course..
  25. I was riding to work down Vasco road from Brentwood to Livermore. It was getting dark but I passed another 2nd gen venture going the opposite direction. It was too dark to see the color and I am pretty sure that it wasn't Rich99 because I think it had the dual spotlights with the headlight. I was wondering if it was anyone here. This was at just a little after 5:00 PM on Thursday afternoon. I was traveling south bound on Vasco road still close to Brentwood. Or maybe this was a mystery rider that has not yet had the pleasure of becoming part of our family. If that is the case, I will have to hunt him/her down.
