  1. you are right you can get scammed on anything. i don't keep alot in my checking account, when i had the card scam it took several days to get through to some one that talked english in the usa. on the bank deal i can at least see a human face to face.
  2. if this is all factual, it just totally sickens me. what is the human race deteriorating to. animals have more compassion and good sense. snarley bill
  3. hey la, as lewis said, be careful, and as road kill said looking forward to seeing you at my st. charles meet. if you guys need a place to crash on your way to denver. give me a call on the way through st. louis. bill
  4. sure hate to here news like this and i think you will sell it with no problem. i hope the best of luck to you and your wife. bill
  5. and the rstd is not in the same league as the wing. two totally different bikes and and designs. like i said beauty is in the eye of the beholder. the rstd is not in the same league as my vstar 1300 would'nt trade even for one. but i loved my rstd while i had it. just had to move on to things more suitable for me. as did you. nothing wrong with that.
  6. waynes a great guy. i had the pleasure of riding with him several weeks ago. glad he is having a good trip. looking forward to seeing you folks at the hub. bill
  7. you are right on and said a mouthful. one problem according to some, our bikes don't look like motorcycles. how could we possibly find enjoyment in them or even appear in public with them? can't believe they actually found all of those people to buy them. maybe we know something some others don't know yet. could it be that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  8. they can do more damage to a mastercard than your checking account. i had some one go on a $4200.00 christmas shopping spree on my visa card this last christmas. the only thing that saved me was my visa won't clear online purchases of $2000.00 and over with out my permission. hit was a one week hassle getting it straightened out. apparently some place i bought something on line got my no. and used my card for personal shopping.
  9. i use paypal all the time. and have had several big transactions like well over $10,000.00 dollars. at first it was scary, but i have had a premier account for quite a few years with no problems. they do have my checking account no. and a back up cedit card which they never use cuz i can't figure out how. even so it still worries me everytime i use online money transfer with anyone. paypal has excellent security, but with all the brilliant minds out there that are too lazy to get a real legit job instead of stealing from people, you never know.
  10. today i was bidding on a brand new 460 progressive rear shock and spring still in the box, for my gold wing on ebay. it lists for $604.00. the best price i have seen was $509.00. on ebay there was a buy now price of $425.00 with $12.00 shipping. i jumped in on the bidding. since i was going to get some sleep. i dropped a max bid in of $250.00. when i signed off i was high bidder at $104.50. any way the auction ended at midnite so i get up and was expecting the other bidders to kisk butt at the last minute. not so. i got the shock for 104.50 plus the shipping. the seller has 100% positive feedback. needless to say i'm flying high on the best buy i ever made on ebay by far. now we will see if the seller keeps his 100% feedback. kind of scary.
  11. when i was sitting here thinking about some snarley thing to add to this thread, it came to mind how wonderful it is to have the vast choice of bikes we have to choose from. i think back at all the bikes i've had and the reasons i bought them and everyone of them had something that stood out that i liked about it. no matter how it looked to someone else i loved it. i think the new 3rd gen will be impressive and the all new 2010 wing will to. as will all the new bikes in the future. when i had my rstd i loved it. and all i heard and still do is people complaining about the whine, lack of fuel injection, the tape deck, the top heaviness, yamaha's lack of interest in the wants of there customers, and on and on. the only problem i had with my rstd was i have bad legs and it was only a matter of time before i dumped it at low speeds and my wife or i got hurt. had some close calls. it whined with the best of them but i did'nt care. i still loved it, and did'nt complain. now i got a wing. on another thread i have posted on, wings are junk and ventures are far better. not so. i have had both and they are both great bikes. i would be glad to ride and own either one. the wing has it's pluses and the venture has it's pluses. who cares whether your bike makes the top 35 list or where it rates in position. if you like it thats what counts. snarley bill
  12. okay jt rub it in. winter is done here. started riding my bike to work this week. temps are getting to be thirties and above. no more black ice. i'm good to go. :clap2:
  13. i love deer. they hate me. i've hit three of them. two in my car and one on a bike. darn near totaled my scoot.
  14. fine looking bike. bill
  15. what an insult, now i am officially a geezer. just kidding. you can't hurt my feelings. the wing still sets the standard :clap2:
  16. i've got an 09 wing for touring, 07 a vstar 1300 touring for touring and short fun rides, an 06 majesty 400 scooter for around town and to beat the oil companies, and a kawasaki zx14 set up for drag racing for when i want to haul freight. someday i'm going to try to remember all the bikes i had in order while i still can.
  17. my favorite biker game is lining up side by side and when the light turns green seeing who gets to the other end of the 1/4 mile first. :cool10:
  18. i will try to keep it away from the meets. it really depends on the weather. so won't be able to set a date to far off.
  19. i am going to make one more trip to the hub. to tie up the loose ends and finalize everything for the 2009 venture rider rally. it will probably be toward the end of april or the middle of may. i will be leaving st. charles mo. early on a sat. morning and plan on doing a round trip in one day. staying overnight at the hub is an option, to check out the rooms. would anyone be interested in riding with me or meeting me there late on a saturday morning, like around 10 am. i did this last year and met some of my committee members there and we had a great breakfast and a great time time. it will be set up on a weekend when the weather on both ends looks decent. let me know if you are interested. bill
  20. what is the date of the litchfield appreciation days at the honda, yamaha dealer? thanks.
  21. hey don, how you doing on your quiting smoking? give us an update. i hope the update is a good one. i'm still rooting for you. snarley bill
  22. ya got me. i owe you one. :clap2: , and i'm at a loss for words. can you imagine that.
  23. really, what denotes what a motorcycle is supposed to look like? i don't think there is a set standard for motorcycle looks. if i want the vtwin look which i do once in awhile i ride my vstar 1300 if thats what a motorcycle is supposed to look like. when i ride to work i ride my majesty scooter. i don't care what people think of it's looks, it's cheap transportation. i like the looks of anything with two wheels and a motor. and i'll ride anything with two wheels and a motor.
  24. you are right, the wing does have stiffer suspension. that is part of what gives a wing the sport type handling. honda went a long way to make a 900 lb. bike have a nimble feel. once under way in the twisties, it's hard to believe that you have all that bike under you. it has a rock solid feel. i have upgraded my front forks to the full racetech springs, gold valve and emulator. it deactivates the antidive gives an even firmer ride with improved rebound on rough roads, with improved ground clearance. it really feels good and the handling is even more improved. the stock wing definately does'nt have mushy suspension. it wasn't designed to. honda has tried to include the best of both worlds. luxury and sport type handling.
  25. in my experience, riding both the goldwing and the venture. the venture is a taller bike. i can flat foot my wing and bend my knees. on my rstd i could flat foot it but my legs were straight. low speed handling they both suck equally. they are flat ass heavy bikes. handling wise no comparison. the wing has a rock solid frame using the engine as a stressed member, zero frame flex or wallowing in the curves. my rstd wallowed bad when pushed hard almost to the point of getting scary (lots of frame flex). i'm not a newby when it comes to rating motorcycle handling and suspension. i have alot of years experience racing and street riding. no doubt about it the wing has a lower center of gravity and a lower seating position. the only thing that keeps the wing from running off from the venture in the curves is things start dragging. i followed wing man on my rstd at vogel through some heavy duty curves. he was dragging from what i could see. if he would have went any faster i would'nt have been able to stay with him on my rstd.i had my bike to the limit and it was fighting back. like driving a semi. i am not trying to cut the venture down cuz i like them. but they just aren't on a par with the wing for high tech engineering. just like a wing won't hold a candle to an r1. for handling. if your comfortable with the foot peg location, (which i had to readjust to) than i don't see how anyone can flaw a wing. this is the big decision factor between the two. as far as gas mileage i get 44 to 45 mpg all the time on my wing, about the same as i got on my rstd. normal riding i am very consertative and have no problem getting good mileage on anything i drive. i don't play favorites just because i own something. if it sucks i will say so. like i said the only thing i don't like about my wing is some times i think it is a little futuristic and out of place when i'm with the real biker crowd, and i miss the floorboards. other than that honda did it good. again just my honest impartial opinion. when i first got my wing i thought the foot pegs sucked. than after a long ride i thought i must have a problem. all my bikes i ever owned had this seating position. now i am comfeotable with it and i have highway boards. which i use very little.
