can't really bad mouth this kid cuz i was like that when i was young. we all did stupid things when we were young. it is a shame some have to learn the hard way. prayers go to his family and friends. bill

don, being a great believer in advanced technology, don't you think it is kind of a half assed way to fix the overheating problem? or should i say archaic, for a bike this expensive to have to run on one cyl..there should be no jury rigging, and it could at the very least have water cooling. i would love to go to work for harley and redesign that motor for them. three things would be on my list of priorities. 1) unit construction, to cut weight and simplify maintenance. 2) water cooling, this would be the easiest improvement. 3) get rid of the three piece crank, and roller rod and main bearings, and go to a full pressure lube system , to improve reliability. the cylinders would have to be off set to do this. i can go along with the archaic push rods cuz they work and are reliable. this engine is an antique design cuz harley is more worried about looks and sound then cost effectiveness and reliability. victory got it right. they basically use the design of the suzuki 1400 intruder v-twin. the harley engine does set the standard for v-twin looks , but looks aren't neccesarily going to get you down the road 200,000 miles. they have been riding this engine design for over a hundred years. i think they have run out of upgrades. it's time to develop a new motor if they want to remain competitive. just my observation of course. bill

just saw the new kawasaki ad today for their new touring bike. this may be the best of all the worlds. v-twin rumble, classic look, and high tech luxury. might be worth a look if someone is in the market for a new ride. if i did'nt like my wing so much and have my v-star 1300 for the v-twin alternative, i would be interested. theres talk of an all new wing in 2010 with 6 speeds and 2000 cc's. i really don't think it needs another gear, and it sure don't need more motor, and it's still way ahead of it's time on styling and technology.

since i have always been a sportster fan. i kind of got a hankerin for one of them new orange xr 1200's. first motorcycle harley has built in quite awhile. just a hankerin of course. a little head work, an exaust system, and maybe a stroker kit, and it may just be a runner.

if you have the bag slashers, drill your pilot jets out .0015 .these bikes run a lean pilot circuit do to pollution regs.. you can get the pin drills at a hobby shop. you will also need the pin drill holder. don't use an electric drill. you drill them buy hand. the main circuit is slightly rich from the factory but with the increase in the rev limit it will be slightly lean above 5500 rpm. i would recommend drilling the main jets out .002 larger. i never buy jets unless i go smaller. the drills for the main jets have to be special ordered. it is not necessary to drill the mains. i did'nt do mine cuz i did'nt have the drill. i was going to do it at a later date. there is a few more horse power to be had if you drill the mains but won't hurt anything if you don't. working on these carbs is a major job. they have to come off. so if you are not equipped to do it don't start. just doing the pilot jets makes an unbelievable seat of the pants difference. big improvement in low end and midrange throttle responce. mine would get very light in the front end on a low gear roll on. you need to be ready to shift fast cuz 7500 comes up very fast. la pryor was behind me in a.r a couple of years ago and he said it sounds like your bike is cutting out. i was banging the limiter at 7500 in 1rst and 2nd. hope this info helps. bill

not sure, but it is easy to switch back. you just have to remove the seat and battery. it mounts under the battery. it is a real bear to plug in. tight space.

looks like a big turnout for the st. charles, mo. rally, may 7th thru 9th. still got plenty of room. looks like this is going to be the biggest ever. i have a great one planned this year. we have people coming from all over the usa, and maybe gary n from canada, who was here last year. for all of you who want to kick off the riding season with a bang , don't miss this one. check it out in the sticky under meet and eats. all the motels and details are there. looking forward to seeing alot of old friends and new faces. bill

i would not have a second gen without the dyna 3000. the plus is you can increase your rev limit. i had mine set at 7500 rpm and it was still pulling hard when it hit the limiter. it also will advance the spark slightly. it makes a most noticible difference. throw on some good mufflers, and a little carb jetting and you will have trouble keeping the front wheel on the ground two up on a roll on. mine ran real good for a 900 lb. bike. just don't pick on no wings. i highly recommend the up grade. bill

going back to highspeed. signed up today. had it twice. first time it was cable. they were screwing me to the wall. then i had dsl. worked great for 2 weeks and went caput, and could get no one from at&t to help me so i went back to dial up. well went back to at&t with wireless cuz i want to get a good laptop. i will be on highspeed as of april 3rd. yipee. :clap2: now i can harass people 50 times as fast. :rotf:
