  1. Helping to fight prostate cancer... http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/van/ I'm wondering who from this area is going to this ride? Hope to see ya there!
  2. is it another "FaceBook"? gawd I hate that program!
  3. Ride for Dad is next weekend over here. For sure we'll be attending. Will follow up with info then.
  4. I look at it this way... since I never do any maintenance to the battery...don't take it out, don't have to put it on a battery tender...don't have to give it a trickle charge... nothing...nada.... and it cranks the bike over no problem....every time....even after sitting for close to 2 month's.... then that is worth the extra expense to me. Whatever works for others is their choice.
  5. I'll NEVER be that old !! (at least not in my mind...) (61 just around the corner but I'm only 35 according to my mind...now if my body would only get on the same wave length!)
  6. uhhhh.... dumb question.... are you installing them in the right direction?
  7. ya... how does one ever know if such a thing works or not... the only way you know if it doesn't is not the way you want to find out! well, coincidence or not, I've had them on all my vehicles for the past 15 or more years and haven't hit a deer... knock on wood! On the other hand, before I started using them I never hit any deer either....????? go figgure
  8. It's hard to take...these stories that pop up on here...sometimes one a week...about someone crashing. I've been lucky. Had many close calls...especially last summer when I did a 24 hr ride out to Saskatchewan...rode thru high deer country in the middle of the night...there were a lot of deer...almost hit one that had recently been hit by a trucker and was still laying in the middle of my lane...thank gawd for the many years of riding and the built-in reactions. Can't say if they really work or not but I have those "deer whistles" on my bike ... Wishing you a speedy recovery...
  9. not a bad time to consider replacing the bearings and seals as well...
  10. I use the irridium plugs in mine and used them in my '85 also. I have no problems starting mine at all....even after sitting for almost 2 month's... full choke....crank her over...fires right up...back choke off to half way and let her warm up. She does have that real slow cranking issue when hot tho but so did my '85. She starts on the second crank every time so I don't get too concerned about it. one thing I've found and that is to not go cheap on the battery. I used to buy $90 Canadian tire batteries for my '85 ... they'd last no more than 2 years and I'd always have to take them out over winter and charge them up before using first time in spring. This one I got now (can't even remember what it is) cost at least double... I'm on my 3rd season with it...never loses it's charge...don't take it out...it's great!
  11. hmmmmmmm I notice you seem to have some spare time..... wazzzup?... yer 2nd gen broke down again?? :witch_brew: :witch_brew:
  12. Never heard of M/C inspections in Canada...at least BC & AB. We have to do emissions testing on our cars and light duty pickups every couple years but they have to be 7 years old or older. There is oftentimes random check stops for commercial trucks/busses, etc which is a good thing coz many of them fail.
  13. oh geeez.... here we go AGAIN!!
  14. Hence...more "fin count" ... which translates to better cooling.
  15. maybe his name has something to do with it...( Midnight...) ...
  16. Wouldn't a thicker core just make the rad require more coolant to be cooled? Seems to me it's the amount of exposed fins that would provide more (or less) cooling effect...???
  17. A quote from the ad ... "despite the skyrocketing price of fuel, patrons are going for the guns." Of course they're going for the guns... that's so they can rob gas stations and get all the gas they want .... :rotf:
  18. dang... if we could only get rid of some of the "yo-yos" around here that easily.... :rotf: I would think that the disbursement of the weight of the bike onto the end of the side stand would change depending on the height of the object between the base of the side stand and the ground. Having said that, and considering the width of the yo-yo, there would be less weight transferred at the ground requiring extremely soft surface to cause it to disappear.... Having said that, it is important to carry more than one yo-yo. One normal sized one for those climates where the temps are such that the asphalt doesn't soften, and another one that is wider and a larger diameter for those climates you ride into where the temps are so hot that asphalt is in almost a liquid state.....
  19. That tends to happen as one get older......
  20. nahhhhhhh... yo-yos are only for us "old" guys ....
  21. I use a Yo-Yo ... comes with string and built-in retractor and is great for bopping idiots and not losing it....also a lot of fun when not under the side stand....
  22. here it is... NAPA # 156 thermostat
  23. Jeremy... what you've explained seems fairly normal. Mine is pretty much the same and my '85 was too. In fact, my '85 seemed to run closer to the red most of the time. On this bike, I installed an auto thermostat. Can't recall part number but it's an exact fit and a lot cheaper than the Yamaha one, not to mention that it supposedly works better. Somewhere buried in this site is a post with the info for it.
