That's about 3.38 US quarts. What is the MFG's advertized capacity?... seems that's appx the max you'd put in to fill `er to the top mark?? Is it possible when you ran it up, you didn't wait long enuf for the oil to drain back down, and when you checked it again, it had.

I've heard that flushing with diesel fuel is a good idea. Drop the old oil, replace with diesel fuel ... start her up for a minute or so... drain that... put some cheap oil in....run it until normal operating temp, drain that oil & filter and then put new filter and proper oil in. Any truth to this?

Years ago when I used to pull wrenches and pump gas, I had this regular customer who drove a Mercedes deisel. He would regularly add some ATF to the fuel to clean the injectors.

Second response to this... seems the system totally lost my first one... Anyway, I was wondering at what point in the sight glass the oil level would be when we might be in danger of oil foaming and possible engine damage (or would it be so low we wouldn't even see it)?

I am the kind of guy who is...what should I say... difficult??? I question a lot of things and don't always accept "simple" answers, especially when there's still a question in my mind, not completely answered. That being said, why then would there be a DT and a T ... there HAS to be some reason....

Lately I've noticed something peculiar and was wondering if others out there experience the same or am I just experiencing something coincidental. With this scoot and my '85, I've generally brought the oil level up to somewhere between half and the top mark on the sight glass. Due to other readings on this sight related to oil level and oil leakage/seeping, etc... I've been allowing the oil to go below the middle point...almost as low as the bottom mark. Cool... I don't get any oil leakage anywhere any more but I've also noticed that the whole engine seems to run a LOT quieter, smoother, and seems quicker. Anyone else notice this?
-
ok... dumb question here... or maybe I'm just not thinking -but- what does zinc in the oil have to do with a catalytic convertor?

VERY COOL! ... except for one thing .... those chrome pipes look totally out of place! I think yellow pipes would be awesome!

To clutch, or not to clutch. THAT is the question.
SilvrT replied to Schlepporello's topic in Safety and Education
one should never ass-u-me ..... LOL I never took any rider courses but I'd wonder if they even teach that method. My son never heard of it and he's just finished taking his M/C course to get his license... neither had his buddy who took the same course althought that guy had been riding off and on for a few years already. Have to chuckle tho... I'm trying to teach my son how to shift that way but for some reason, he's afraid to... I guess just not enuf riding experience... lack of confidence a bit still. I've been doing it so long I can't even remember when I first learned how but at least as far back as my Honda 500-4 which was over 30 years ago. -

SilvrT replied to Schlepporello's topic in Safety and Education
cool.. thanks for sharing this info from the book... that's pretty much how I do the shift without the clutch...preload the shift lever...quick "back-off" the throttle ... tranny pops into next gear... roll back on the throttle. It doesn't take much of a "back-off" on the throttle either but I've found to make sure you have a good pre-load and follow through fully on the shift lever when the upshift occurs. -

Exhaust leak on 1st Gen
SilvrT replied to cjacobs's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes, there should be gaskets there. Don't get them directly from Yamaha as they aren't cheap... try and find some off eBay or somewhere else...maybe another member here has extras. Also, I use a little "exhaust gasket cement" on mine coz mine are old and getting worn so when I take my mufflers off, I apply some of this stuff when I reinstall them just to ensure no leakage occurs. -
back to the sticky seat
SilvrT replied to PBJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I concur with the other posts.... get it reupholstered. I had this same problem on my '85 ... absolutely nothing seemed to get rid of this "GOO" ... and it kept getting worse. Seems to me the material the seats are covered with was breaking down. I had my seat and passenger backrest professionally redone for $150 and it was a real good job in 2 tone brown/tan. Really made the scoot look good too. -
gotcha... but... wouldn't putting a K&N in be cheaper in the "long run"? How often does one change the stock air filter? I had my '85 for 6 years and now my '87 I've had...this will be the 3rd year. I guess it all depends on the length of time one keeps their scoot ... amount of riding (miles) ... etc, etc
-
I don't "get it" .... why go to all this trouble .... what's the difference? (or have I missed the point?) I use a K&N in this bike and had one in my '85. All I ever did is clean it occasionally. Since both bikes came with the K&N in them when I bought them, I haven't spent a dime.

Handle bar wobble with no hands...
SilvrT replied to bugfish69's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How fortunate you are to only be complaining about a wobble when riding with no hands..... geeeesh!!! -
I would (assuming he's gonna sell it for a reasonable price) and there's no "real" shortage of parts, depending on what part you needed of course. The dealers will try and scare ya away coz they don't want to have to work on it.

nope... version 8 is out now http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

dang.... good thing I haven't started up my new used parts store called "Good Vibrations" yet (someone might think....) .... but that was supposed to be for HD parts .... I never imagined having Yammie parts too!

That SOMETIMES works but if the virus is into any of the files Windows loads or calls when loading (which is often the case) or if it's into any of the application files that you load, rebooting in safe mode and rolling back won't help at all.
