  1. Hello All, My 96 RS has "Turn-out" mufflers on now and I wanted to change back to OEM mufflers. I purchased a set of mufflers only to find that I need the "stays" to mount the OEM mufflers. I'm reaching out to anyone who might have a set of these that would want to sell them.
  2. Purchased a replacement windshield for my 96RS from CBaileys and realized that I need the rest of the windshield , chrome trim and acrylic piece that adjusts down to headlight.
  3. Hello All, I have a 96 RS with 4/2/4 exhaust and looking for turnout mufflers. Have looked on the Web but cant find anything. Looking for ideas.
  4. Hello All, Looking to replace the stock medium windshield on my 96 RS Boulevard with a Cee Bailey tall (24") windshield ( a lot cheaper than OEM) and would like looking for feedback.
  5. How was the passenger seat? My other ride is a Venture and the passenger seat is very comfortable. Can I expect something similar?
  6. Hello All, Got my96 RS on the road and need to replace the original seat, not comfortable at all. I have been looking at Mustang and Corbin Dual Touring seats and would like some feedback. All will be appreciated.
  7. The 96 Rs has 4 to 4 exhaust so isolating the exhaust is simple. As far as burning oil, blue smoke from the pipe with the smell of oil is the other giveaway.
  8. The saga continues. My 1996 RS that I recently purchased and have been working my way thru its issues has come up with still another problem. If the bike is left running at idle all is ok. If you take the bike out for a ride and get it hot cylinder #1 smokes/burns oil real bad. Shut it off let it cool and start it again all will be ok till you take it out for a ride. I found oil on the outside of the muffler for cylinder #1 about 1/4" back also inside the muffler ( they are slash cut mufflers). I pulled the plug for #1 and it was ok, also compression for that cylinder is good.
  9. When I got the bike a mouse had made a nest in the airbox, ate the filter and the prior owner had ran the bike before I picked it up without knowing about the mouse. Could there be something from the mouse nest that the motor sucked up stuck in the exhaust valve( the pop comes from the exhaust not thru the carbs) shells, seeds ect?
  10. Compression Results: Cylinder #1: 40psi dry, almost same wet Cylinder #2: 227 dry Cylinder #3: 230 dry Cylinder #4: 219 dry Because all of the dry readings were good wet test was not done *** Note: these readings were done by 3rd party
  11. Hey all, I did compression check on my 96 RS and found low compression in cylinder #1. Added a little oil to see if it was rings or not and it made no improvement. The motor has 18k miles on it. I talked to the dealer I work with but his proposal is TOO open ended. I dont want to wind up with a $1500.00 + bill without knowing first. I live in Pa. Looking for an alternative to the dealer.
  12. GeorgeS, I took your advise and clipped 1/4" off the ends of the plug wires, have not tried to start the bike to see if it made any difference, also on my bike 96 Royal Star the wires are part of the coil assembly and cannot be replaced. Thanks
  13. V7Goose, thanks for the input, not knowing which lead to check secondary resistance with, I checked it using both terminals and came out with the same value that was within range. Does that mean all is OK?
  14. Still tracking down the intermittent spark problem on cylinder #1. Pulled rear coils and checked them for resistance, primary resistance was within limits, secondary coil resistance showed an open loop on both coils. Just to be sure,to check secondary resistance per the book I should put one lead from the DVOM into the spark plug wire( with the cap off) and the other should be to ground at the coil mount. The DVOM shows open loop on both coils. The cylinder #2 that uses the other coil in the pack is firing as it should, or at least it is firing ( exhaust gets hot). This makes on sense.
  15. Hello all, I'm back to partake from the "Fountain of Knowledge". My 1996 Royal Star developed a "miss" and would backfire. In doing some checking I found that I have an intermitten spark from cylinder #3. This condition exists when the bike is cold or warm that in my thinking would rule out the coils because from what I have read the coils fail mostly when they get hot. Any suggestions?
  16. Hello everyone, Happy New Year!! I have a situation that I need some help with. My 1996 Royal Star wound up with a mouse nest in the airbox, unknown to me, and has been ingested into the motor. The nest seems to be just soft debris. What if any problems could come from this?
  17. Hello my friends, I have a situation and could use some of your feedback. I am looking to purchase another Royal Star,it is a 1996 BEAUTIFUL bike that has sat for about years in a garage, here is the catch. The bike starts on full choke idles badly and stalls when you crack the throttle. The present owner has let me put SeaFoam and fresh gas in the tank which actually has made the bike run(idle) worse. It appears to be running on 3 cylinders as the upper left exaust header does not get hot. My job has taken me from my home where I had my shop and now I live in an apartment where I dont have the resources to work on the bike. Not knowing shop rates for what appears to be fouled carbs the owner is willing to give me $300.00 off the asking price because of its running condition. Do I pull the trigger and buy the bike and hope that the repairs dont exceed $300.00 or walk away. The bike has 18,000 miles.
  18. Hello Everyone, I'm in need of your assistance again. Here is my problem: when I wash the bike it is always hard to start,if I let it set a while it will start. If I drive in heavy rain the bike has stalled out. When I let it set a while it will start and run fine. I have taken the TCI unit out cleaned the connectors and opened the cover letting it dry out, also used diaelectric grease on the connector. I have replaced the spark plug wires thinking that they mey be the problem but to no avail. I'm leaving on Friday for Myrtle Beach and the forecast is for rain. HELP!
  19. Hey, Have read about a mod to the YCIS system called a "JASON MOD" what is it?
  20. Purchased 2 cans from Auto Zone this morning. Plan to run 2oz per gallon mixture. Thanks
  21. Hi Guys, Problem solved!!! Found the diaphram in carb #4 Had come apart? Looking at pictures of diaphrams they all appear to be one piece,This one was in 4! I put them all back together and still had a pop in airbox from carb #4. Prior owner had remover plugs for mixture screws. I checked screw for #4 and found it all the way in. Backed it out 2-1/2 turns checked the rest of the mixture screws and found all of them less than 1-1/2 turns out. Adjusted all of them, re-syncronized the carbs and the bike runs great. Thank you all for your input. Looking forward to Myrtle Beach!!!
  22. Hi, Thanks for the info on the "erratic fuel guage" found that the ground wire on the sending unit was bad. Now to my current problem: when I started the bike for the first time it ran poorly and would only stay running with the choke on. I have since changed the spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter and syncroniszed the carbs. The bike when cold runs bad(misses) when it warms up it does not respond well to throttle input and smells rich. If I hold the throttle at 3k rpms the bike has a miss that you can hear in the exaust. I have owned this bike for 4 years and it has always run great. Im stumped! Myrtle Beach is 3 weeks away and I was riding down and need to resolve this.
  23. Hi To All: I have an 83 Venture that I have just finished my "Spring Cleaning" of by removing all plastic and cleaning the bike completely. After replacing all the plastic the fuel guage now has no display and the red light is flashing. Thinking that the computer module might be the problem I tried another computer module that I have with the same results. When I turn the key on you can quickly see three (3) bars in the fuel guage and they go out. Has anyone seen or had this problem before?
  24. Hi, Has anyone lowered a standard venture? If so by how much? I would like to lower mine by about 1-1/2" to 2" ( short legs). Thanks, Mel carco@ptd.net
