  1. Its raining so hard I cant make it to the shop in my back yard, I would be soaking wet by the time I get it unlocked and open, so looks like my work resuming on the old girl will have to wait till I get a break in the rain, and its in the forecast for the next 7 days, so even if I get if finished in the next week, wont be able to ride it......what a drag.Just hope the shop and the bike don't float away.:depressed:
  2. First I have heard of it and I live in Newnan, who is sponsoring it, where is it going, where is it starting?
  3. I did too, I was member number 255 till the crash.
  4. When we were there for Vogel in August, we discovered that much of the Dragon had been improved with pulloffs for slower vehicles, and the turnaround at the Tenn. end had been blacktopped making for much easier turn arounds. Wish I could meet you guys there, I will have my Venture back together by then, but will probably be working lots of overtime since 3 more people got laid off where I work. Have a great trip and above all be safe.
  5. Was calling her the Black Beast, but since she is getting a facelift I will have to change that to something more appropriate..........My VStar 1300 is just "V"
  6. Its at least faster than you are on crutches.............
  7. Base coat/clear coat. Brand was Shop-Line. Economy price paint. The clear coat was by Montana.
  8. Yes, Don I do remember how to put it back together, uh I think................ Yes Ken, I wish I could paint like that too.............my buddy said he isnt a pro, but cant prove that by me............In all it took 1 qt of primer, 1 quart of black, 1/2 pint of pewter, 1/2 gallon of clear. That was the base totals before hardener and reducer were added. 4 coats of black, and 4 coats of clear. The best part was the total for this came in at under $300.00. The clear which is the most expensive was given to me by a friend who closed his body shop, that was a money saver. Hopefully there will be no extra peices, maybe a couple I wont put back on intentionly..... The pin stripes were first removed with a razor, then I sanded them down to the plastic, there are a couple of spots that still came through on the box, but, you have to look really close to see them, I know someone here posted what you could use to take them off but I couldnt find it.......must have been a pre-crash post. Thanks for all the nice comments, I am going to take my time putting her back together, so I dont mess up the paint. I am anxious, but will be cautious about it.............the hardest part was deciding what color, I must have changed my mind 20 times, every time I saw a color I liked where I work, it made me rethink it over and over, but in the end, black is my favorite color for a bike, and pewter looks rich and great against the black.
  9. Well we finally got around to shooting the Black Beast, not in the put it out of its misery shoot but it now has a fresh new paint job. Spent the last three nights with my buddy from work painting it and it came out great. He did an awesome job painting it. Below are the pics of the process. Hopefully will have it reassembled in a few days...........The color is Ford Black with Pewter Trim. Had to go back with Black, after about 20 different choices, decided Black is beautiful..............:dancefool:
  10.:rotfl::think: Must be forgetting to wear his hat when he is out in the sun.......
  11. 1975 Honda CB500T............Dual overhead cams. Used to be the CB450 till Honda upped the cc's.
  12. It was great seeing you and Beth again, and you really made my day when you told me Nancy was coming. That was a great surprise, was great to see her, wish the turnout would have been more like last year, but it was still good. I really do plan on making it down your way, just have to find the time and somebody to do it with, mybe Jamie or Todd or both could make the trip with me, I have treated Jamie to a cajun style wedding when my son got married at Destrehan Plantation, but Todd needs to be introduced to some crayfish and crayfish pie, good boiled shrimp, not the crap they serve here. Thanks again for coming. Like I said we need a S. La. Rally.......you and BRScooter, and I can help if needed. You plan it, they will come.:dancefool:
  13. Well we didnt have as many as last year but we had more than the first year, we had 15 bikes and 3 cages, and total body count was 30. We had a great time until we had to sit and wait, seems our tour guide, forgot about us, but we finally got a tour courtesy of a very helpful security guard. Brad, sorry to hear your benefit ride didnt go well, I quit worrying about numbers and concentrate on those that are there having a good time, it takes all the worry out of it. And if you havent read it in the other post our total this year went still higher than last years. $3,450.00
  14. Pictures from St. Jude/Mean Dog Memorial Ride. I am having a problem loading the rest of the pics here so I have them posted at Photobucket in the Venturerider account. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/St%20Jude%20Mean%20Dog%202009/
  15. The final total again went a little higher than last years donation. This is the combined total from our St. Jude auctions, parts auctions, International Rally, and Tail of the Dragon @ Vogel, along with cash donations by many. $3.450.00 Thanks again for all who donated. This is a fantastic group of people.!!!!
  16. Rolled into my driveway at midnight, 797 miles round trip since 4:00 am Sat. morning. Did get a little damp three different times, but didnt stop me from getting home the same day. I want to thank everyone that showed up for this ride, the big surpirse for me was when Kbran told me Nancy, Mark Still aka Mean Dog's wife. It was a very nice surprise for her to show up. I have a video of Ken introducing her to the group which I will post tomorrow after some much needed rest. It didnt go exactly as planned, someone on their end dropped the ball, and we weren't on the list for the tour, so they tried to find someone to give us a tour to no avail, but then one of the security guards stepped up and gave us a tour, they didnt want us to have come all the way and not get a tour. They still are top notch in my book and things happen sometimes, but wont stop me from continuing to raise money and take the ride to Memphis. Its all about the kids................ Thanks again, now we have to come up with a plan for next years fundraiser for St. Jude, I am open to ideas, so lets hear them.
  17. My ADD has only gotten worse since I reached your age..............:witch_brew:
  18. Ok, I got the cashiers check, all the checks made out to St. Jude, still need to pack my bag, wash the bike, get gas, take both camera's, take some patches and maybe a couple of shirts from Vogel IV. Looking forward to this, hope we have a great turnout, I know we are competing with Ecks/Blackjacks meet, but its not about us, its about the Kids. Oh by the way, our total for St. Jude's right now stands at $3300.00, and that will go higher with some donations I am expecting from some that are coming............ Good work Ventureriders, including the monies donated to the Mean Dog Tribute page we have raised over $9600.00 in 4 years............ Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible
  19. Its pretty easy to find, just follow I-55 south to Memphis, or I-40 West to Memphis, you cant miss it...............
  20. Bill, I thought Alan was coming to Memphis with you. How many miles for you. 379 miles for me........leaving here about 3:30-4 am............See you there, I will be solo, so should make it on time this time...............
  21. You can always cut your stock windshield down, I just cut my Stock 23 inch windshield down on my V Star 1300 and its now perfect, Its not hard just have to be very careful when cutting it with a jigsaw. I sure the process is posted here somewhere. Here is a youtube video. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQj05Db-C3c]YouTube - How We Cut Down a Bike Windshield[/ame]
