  1. In June 2010 While visiting my daughter in Vacaville CA. I purchased an 89 VR from South Lake Tahoe. I continued to search craigs list for VRs and saw an add for the front fork brace. Later I discovered that the seller was Condor who suggested that I contact some members of the Venture Riders for referrals about the brace. I bought the brace and the rest is history.
  2. Now that I've sleeped on it, I've decided to let this one go. I appreciate all your insites of experience and wisdom. I'll keep looking for that right parts bike and preferably one that is the same color as my 89 VR. My VR seems to be in really good condition and so I The other person who were in front of me probably came to the similar decision. I was wondering why the seller told me that he committed to the 1st person to hold it till Jan, then called my and told me that he had too many interested in the bike and so gave me the opportunitity. I see that the seller has not put it back on Craigs List so if anyone is interested I can give you his name and number, otherwise I expect to see it relisted in Seattle's Craigs List. Thank You all again for all your help. Happy New Year to All! Brian
  3. I have the opportunity to purchase this 86 VR for $500. It was side swiped by a cager at an interection. The rider luckly did not receive any injuries and the bike did not go down. The front left fairing got hit and also took out the left side bag. He rode it that way for a while until he rode over something on the way to work. When his work day was done he found a large puddle of oil under the oil pan. So he figured what ever he rode over cracked the oil pan. It does not have rear fender and the crome below the left side bages. It is a VR and he said that the Cassette(probably works), Radio, CB, CASE, Electronic Cruise Control all work good. The Cruise Control does loose some and so he had to use the throttle to bring it backup to speed. He said that it ran great up to the day of the oil incident. It has about 85K miles. I have parts that I could use immediately, trailer hitch, passenger arm rest. Otherwise I think it would make a good parts VR for my 89. Oh the color is definately does not match mine. I recently purchased my 89 VR in June and so I'm just a rookie with the VR. I am willing and capabile of fixing things. Of course I will need my wife's support on this purchase. I was thinking that I could use the parts I mentioned then possible pick up the other parts and list it on Craigs list this spring and get my investment back. Maybe everyone could give an estimate of the value of the VR with all the issues repaired. Your thoughs would be appreciated. I will attach as many pictures as I can.
  4. So I've moved up to the #1 position in this 86 VR. I would really appreciate knowing any differences between an 86 VR as a parts bike to my 89 VR.
  5. I stumbled on this old thread "Magnets to make traffic lights turn green". I've only riden since Sept 2010 and before that it has been 27 years. So I have some catching up to do. I read all the comments and for the small cost I am going to install one. One of the links suggested to go to Harbor Freight and look up Welding Magnets. I'm concluding the more powerful the magnet the better. So I'm looking for some suggestions as to the right size magnet and the best place to install one or more on an 89 VR without a trailer hitch. http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/175x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_2816.jpg 4 Piece Magnetic Welding Holders Item #93898 Only:$4.99 Sale:$3.99 http://www.harborfreight.com/skin/frontend/enterprise/harborfreight/images/btn_add2cart_up.jpg Add to Wishlist Add to Compare ========================================== http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/175x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_1229.jpg Fixed Right Angle Welding Magnet Item #46297 Only:$14.99 http://www.harborfreight.com/skin/frontend/enterprise/harborfreight/images/btn_add2cart_up.jpg Add to Wishlist Add to Compare ===================================== http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/175x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_142.jpg 4" Magnetic Ground Block Item #30754 (3) Only:$5.99 http://www.harborfreight.com/skin/frontend/enterprise/harborfreight/images/btn_add2cart_up.jpg Add to Wishlist Add to Compare ====================================== http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/175x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_53.jpg 4-3/4'' Multipurpose Magnet Holder Item #1938 (4) Only:$3.99 Sale:$2.99 http://www.harborfreight.com/skin/frontend/enterprise/harborfreight/images/btn_add2cart_up.jpg Add to Wishlist Add to Compare ====================================== http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/175x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_54.jpg 6-1/4" Multipurpose Magnet Holder Item #1939 (2) Only:$5.99 Sale:$3.99 http://www.harborfreight.com/skin/frontend/enterprise/harborfreight/images/btn_add2cart_up.jpg Add to Wishlist Add to Compare ================================== http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/175x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_906.jpg 7-1/2" Multipurpose Magnet Holder Item #41629 (2) Only:$7.99 Sale:$5.99 http://www.harborfreight.com/skin/frontend/enterprise/harborfreight/images/btn_add2cart_up.jpg Add to Wishlist Add to Compare

  8. Give Evoline a consideration. The Coolest Helmet. I got one this summer, and I really like it. However I can't compare it to anything for it has been 27 years since I put a helmet on.
  9. Merry Christ-mas from Buckley Washington.
  10. I've experienced the kind, helping hand from this org in the 3 months I've had my 89 VR. It is awsome the help and knowledge in the org. I hope to be sharing and helping as I get more experience. To a good degree I'm a project person in doing much of my own repairs on many projects including my VR. Receiving encouragement from this group is like having a close neighbor and friend that provides extra energy in starting and completing a project. When one shares in a constructive and progressive way it is like participating in the project. Any one know of a good Bayliner Boat org. I have an 88 20' Bayliner with a 305 Chev with about 400 hours on it, that I bought new and for 12 years it ran great then it stopped. I gave up after a few years and bought a couple of used jet skiis. Years later I took the boat to a local mechanic, he checked out the electricial and the fuel but no luck. So before I take it to a shop next year. Well that is what I have been saying each year. If you know of any good boat group like the Venture Riders please let me know.
  11. Thank you very much. I'm 2nd in line on a craigs list 86 Venture Royale with 78K. The left rear bag was side swiped by a car however the rider did not get hurt and the bike was not dropped. He was riding it to work sometime after the accident and he drove over something on his way to work. When his work day ended there was a puddle of oil under the VR. The left mirror mount on the fairing and the left faring side is marred up from another accident. He's asking $500 for it. I'm hoping to pick it to fix, however I'm thinking it would also be a good parts bike for my 89 VR. I myself have only owned my 89 VR for about 3 months and so I do not know much about repair estimates. Thank you again. If I should have more concerns than related to the cracked oil pan, please comment.
  12. Can someone provide an general approximation of time, part and dollars in replacing a cracked oil plan.

  14. Ya, I could install the meter the vertical way like your switch, and maybe angle it as much as I can to accomodiate readability. I'm at work right now and so will take a look tomorrow morning. I'm wondering if the handel bars might block some of the view of the meter. My preference is to install it horizontally and out of the rain. The switches that snaggletooth installed sure is in a nice and easy location to reach. Talking about switches, I could post a picture of my two switches I installed. Only if no one would laugh at it for I'm sure someone will raise an eye browe and make some joking comment for the rest of the group to chime in on. I do like the idea of putting the meter on a switch so I can quickly check without turning the key on. Thank you both for the suggestions:
  15. On the MKII, the surface is not flat like on your MKI and the design/layout is different. I looked at that spot. Just above the top of your meter on the MKII there is a raised ridge just shy the width of my meter, that comes down then flattens out. I'm afraid after cutting a hole that the meter will not fit well. I could turn the meter 90 degrees and then looks like it will fit on the raised surface of the ridge. But that would look a bit weird. I may have to resort to velcro. I'm hoping that I would get some more response from MKII owners who mounted a mini digital volt meter.
  16. Any suggestions where to mount a mini volt meter on an 89 VR. Protected from rain preferred. Size of mounting hole is M4.3cm×2.3cm(1.7" x 0.9").
  17. That reminds me I got a guitar 3 Christ-mas ago and with an amp and mic and some other accessories. I too started off on the fast track but slacked off. I do pick it up when ever someone in my family has a birthday and sing them happy birthday. I also play abcdefg or twinkle twinkle little star to my 2 year old granddaughter. That reminds me I better get a strumming for my daughter and granddaughter are soon home for the Holidays.
  18. Heck, make it 40K and go for a BMW with all the bells and whistles.
  19. First ask if he would spring for a new bike for around 20K.
  20. I've been keeping up on personal oil preference soon to make a decision for an upcomming oil change. I have an 89 VR with 25K this year. Any reason why Valvoline and Quaker State Dino oil are not mentioned? Or atleast I haven't read in the various threads.
  21. Any recommendations on a good tank bag for an 89 VR? Also for a good rear passenger bag. Like to know what kind of features to look for and why.
  22. Ya, I just stopped drinking all together years ago. It's not worth it.
  23. This morning I retested the LED Turn signals with the Platinum Burners and this time they work. Hmmm, it must be that the battey was down some yesterday from all the testing for it has recharged over night. Being that the LEDs requires much less battery power to run that one would think they would work. Oh well, I wasn't surprised that no one commented for the failure really did not make any sense. I had a lot of looks and I thank you for that.
