As I read the description, it sounds pretty rough, and it has a salvage title. There has to be a reason he is pitching it as a candidate for a trike...

86 Trunk to replace 83 trunk?
bongobobny replied to windrider1983's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I might have a spare trunk mount rack from an '85 laying around... Frog Man was parting out an '85 recently. Other than that ebay but they usually go for $100 or so. -
Yah, Cecdoo it's about 5 - 6 hrs each way! Of course if you are ever in the area please feel free to strop in! Squidley, we will be looking forward to seeing you guys soon!

Run a can of seafoam thru your fuel tank before you change plugs. The seafoam will clear up a lot of problems, but it unfortunately cause your plugs to foul out from all the gunk it lifts and removes. A lot of us spring the bucks for an Odessy battery which is a dry cell and has more cranking power. A definate must is to replace the stock battery cables with heavier gauge cables. As a matter of fact there is a member that sells a ready made kit, found up top in the "sticky" section of this forum. Another trouble spot is the kill switch. the contacts sometimes develop resistance and can cause starting problems. Once you get it running right, you will be very impressed with the perormance 1st gens have. Word of warning, though, the early 1200's are just a tad quicker...

86 Trunk to replace 83 trunk?
bongobobny replied to windrider1983's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Squid is right, the '85 was still removable, whereas the '86 up isn't. You will have to change the trunk mount, but it bolts right up. I'm not positive if the '85 mount is the same as '86 up but I'm pretty sure... I'm doing yhe same thing primarily for the added space. I have an "85 trunk, and am not interested in the adjustable backrest. I've already modified how my mount physically sets so that the backrest is almost straight upand down, just like my wife likes it. I also made up a set of extenders so that the trunk sets back about 4 inches further. If you REALLY want to gain storage space, and don't use your saddlebags as removable, then switch over to '86 up. Tons of room!!! -
Set up the screen room and got out the recliners today! For those ho have already been here, you know how nice it is. For those who haven't stopped by yet, then make our place a destination for relaxing and enjoying great fellowship. We enjoy company! I will especialy be loking for company after I have the operation on my foot as I will be stuck here for a while...

Costs me $85/yr for bare bones coverage from Public Service Mutual Ins Co. whereas Nationwide wants $250 with the multiple insurance discount! Of course I'm sure Nationwide provides better than the barebones coverage...

I'm soooo glad the wife is retiring this summer! That will cut the gas bil in half. Wow, you pay just as much to fill your truck up as it costs me to fill two cages up every week!! So, do people buy more sensible vehicles??? Nooo!! I still see a bunch of SUV's in the parking lot...

Thinking about getting a parts bike
bongobobny replied to rumn1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'd say too much. The real money for spare parts is mostly in the plastic, and any aftermarket goodies it may have. You would be hard pressed to get that much just for a good running engine... $200 sounds like more of a fair price for what you describe...
